Help Needed - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Earlier today tried flashing an original firmware on my Galaxy S2 using this file GT-I9100_XEU_I9100XWLP7_I9100XXLPS_I9100XEULP5.tar. Everything passed through Odin but seems my device doesn't want to boot flashing this. I also installed the Litening_Rom_v6-1.tar.md5 after that and again didn't want to boot through Odin.
I did manage to get into CWM and restore a nandroid backup and it boots fine now.
I am selling my S2 tomorrow and wanted to put it back to stock. Is there any way through CWM to flash a stock rom and unroot as seems odin is causing problems. If the CWM way isn't possible can anyone point me in the right direction for an original rom that will work.
Any help appreciated.
By the way i am on an unbranded S2 form Uk.

When you were flashing in Odin did you flash the kernel, recovery and the system? Or just the system?

Just flashed the file above with the pda button. (Only gave me the .tar file)

It is caused by not making a wipe cache and data before flash. Before selling, format also /system. First of all reset counter with Triangle Away if not yet

Will this mthod take me back to stock after I have done it?

Use the Odin instructions from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
Remember to select the PDA option, not other options on Odin. That should work without needing to format system, cache and dalvik cache. If it really doesn't work report here. And try to flash other Roms, like the NEE 4.0.4 (last one released).

With those steps you have an empty phone. If you flash a stock ROM you get your phone like when you bought it

You gotta read instructions. No where in the instructions did it say wipe system. Now you need to read up on how to use odin to install a stock ROM. Look for the stock rom in the developmemt thread.

Update from 2.3 to 4.0

currently i have a 2.3.6 custom rom and would like to flash I9100XWLP9_I9100KPNLP1_KPN with odin, this is a 1-part odin flash, so i have to flash without re-partition and afterwards make a factory reset, is this the correct way to upgrade? thx

He doesn't NEED to, but it is usually better to start fresh. Reduces the chances of weird problems.
Every update I do, I back up all my app data using TB, full wipe, update, and then restore my TB backups.

The real answer is no need for factory wipe its not in the instructions .
But as posted many of us do wipe the phone before an upgrade and factory reset afterwards .
It does no harm anyway and is probably good practice .

Hi,
I'm currently on a CyanogenMod rom. I need to flash back to a stock ICS if i want to flash an AOKP or other rom or just install over CyanogenMod ?
Download a stock ICS ROM off sammobile.com, put your phone in download mode and flash via Odin. If you want another custom ROM, download the .zip file, put on SD Card, do all wipes in CWM and flash.
Chris.

I'm on custom ics now and wanna flash the AOKP rom.
And do i need to do all wipes before and after flashing any rom ?
Your safer to. Prevents any force closures or other app problems. Just do cache partition wipe, data wipe/factory reset, dalvik cache wipe and battery stats wipe. Then flash ROM, and then re-wipe cache partitions and run fix permissions. That should prevent any problems. Also, none of your data will be wiped off your SD card. Also, make sure you back up your EFS folder to protect your IMEI, there is a developer on here that makes the Advanced EFS back up application. Use it as a precaution!

Ok flashing complete. Now i need to reboot and then again go into recovery and do all wipes or immediately when completed flashing without reboot ?
Do them now as a precautionary procedure. And that should be you!

Thanks 4 help
Check your IMEI by dialling *#06# and make sure it is the same as the one on the box of your phone. If it is, back it up immediately if you haven't done so already with the application I mentioned in my previous post. You'll thank me later when you need it and have it backed up!

When the ROM is booting it usually stays on the Samsung logo for a few minutes as it boots/builds dalvik-cache and all that jazz.
How long did you wait?
Do you have Odin already?
You'll need to download a stock ROM to flash first of all, or if you want there is am Odin flashable version of the jellybean ROM you flashed.

Oh OK, you'll need to flash it so.
download whatever stock ROM you need from samfirmware.com or the jellybean leaked one (Odin in title) and we'll talk then. (700+mb)
You can flash whatever firmware you want from samfirmware.com (obviously for gt-i9300) but region doesn't matter, I used XXBLG8 firmware. (UK)

Chainfire didn't get rid of your recovery, stock android has a file in ota's which overwrites custom recoveries on boot, i think flashing cf-root seems to solve this problem, I still have my custom recovery after several reboots.
Chainfire3d may not be compatible with sammy jellybean just yet.

Won't boot after Odin'd stock

[SOLVED]
Hi guys, so I just bought an SIII and after a long and fruitful relationship with my SII, I decided to flash stock and sell the thing.
Unfortunately it won't boot. I was previously running ASNET MIUI on the thing, just downloaded a stock 4.0.3 firmware and flashed it, but it just doesn't go past the S logo on the boot animation. I've tried flashing about 6 different firmwares through Odin, unbranded, O2 branded and frankenstein, and none get past the boot animation.
Download mode still works and recovery works. I've tried just flashing different kernels through Odin as well but doesn't work.
So I've got no idea how to get the thing to boot and it's no longer rooted so no CWM to flash a custom ROM over it, and thinking I'd just wipe the thing and go back to stock I wiped all the internal memory meaning losing all my back ups etc so can't just restore.
Any help guys? It's O2 locked which is why I tried flashing some O2 branded firmwares. Just wanna sell the damn thing already.
You must flash 3 file stock firmware with repartition (and correct, newest pit of cource).
But be aware of repartitioning risk.

What'd you mean? :s
I mean that repartition could be risky if it fail. I never had any problem with any of my sgs line phone but if it stuck at bootloader flashing than you will hardbrick your phone. But I don't won't to scare you. Probably everything will be flashed without any problems. Some roms changing stock partition layout and that why you need do repartition it while backing to stock firmware.

Oh no I get that part, I mean what do you mean by 3 file stock firmware? Usually everytime I've ever Odin'd something it's just the one file in PDA?
Firmware with separate PDA, CSC and modem. Those firmwares usualy have full wipe commands implemented in scripts.
This is the best solution if you like to have absolutly stock factory state without any junks from previous soft.

Well, be cautious when you flash it. It could ruin your phone if you flash the wrong one. I personally haven't ever used it because of that risk.
