Phone reboots when turned off... - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
Met a problem with my GT-I9300. When I shut the phone off it just reboots. The phone was rooted and running a custom rom when this started. Now I have unrooted with mobile Odin and flashed a official firmware but the problem persists.
I have even tried a battery pull. When battery is inserted again the phone remains off til I push the powerbutton. But when I try to turn it off after this it just reboots again.
Anyone else had this? Tips on what to do?

I've never had any luck fixing this problem. I always had to wipe and flash. However, as a temporary fix, you can power off from recovery.

can I ask what you are doing when you turn it off?

Just to clarify, even wipe the phone and restore it to stock completely by flashing official firmware doesnt solve it.
When I turn it off I hold powerbutton til i get the powermenu. From there I choose "turn off". Phone does what it should, screen goes off and everything, only a few seconds later the phone boots again.

If the phone was totally cleaned formatted sd card and stock firmware installed then its a hardware problem .
But my guess is it as not totally clean .
....................................
Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .
jje

I have now tried to wipe and format sys/data/cach/sd in cwm. Flashed stock firmware via odin. Still same issue. Guess its hardware.
Thanks anyway.

This may sound strange, but is this the clock problem the Desire HD had.
In time settings, uncheck the auto update.
Change time & date to something random.
Power off and pull the battery before it reboots.
Give it a min, power up, reselect auto update and reboot.
Should be good to go. If its the same problem that is.

It happened also to me once. I flashed my rom in the same order as you did. But what my problem solved was, I made a wipe AFTER I installed the ROM. After that, I didn't had this issue anymore.
These are the steps I did...
- Get into the CWM recovery
- Wipe Data/factory reset
- Wipe Cache
- Wipe Dalvik-Cache
Hope it works also to you...

Solved
I solved it by flashing a later official firmware - XXALF6.

Update: It's rare, but has returned to work normal and I doing nothing

Hello,
i found a solution for that problem. You will lose some sd card files.
go to settings-storage-others (or other) and mark all files. Then delete them an go to downloadmode to reflash you firmware. Reboot and the problem is missing.

[Q] Why my screen always on when charging battery?

i am using Onecosmic latest ICS rom and his provided kneral
is it the rom problem or i can setting turn the screen off while charging the phone?thanks~
Screen on When Charging
Foodil,
I had this problem way back when I was on one of the MIUI roms.
My fix: reboot to recovery and fix permissions. If this doesn't work then...
backup rom and SMS/MMS
reboot to recovery
nandroid backup (advanced)
wipe dalvick cache and wipe cache
format system
reflash rom
fix permissions
reboot system.
Good luck!

Check the setting that enables/disables this. There is an option to leave the screen on while charging. Settings/applications/developement. Uncheck stay awake..

Thankyou.
i have tried your suggestion
at first fix permission not works, so i reflash the rom following the suggestion apporach ( i can't find nandroid backup (advanced) in the cwm , so i skipped it)
however, this time the mobile phone will turn on (not just screen, it will just boot and enter the android system) when i charging..
so i try install another rom (passion v10.6) . The problem sloved , but i think this rom is worse than the onecomic one . It consume more battery and ram.
So now i will flash back to onecomic one to see what will happen. It is just tedious work.
thanks, eweo911
That item is unchecked but the phone screen still keeping on.
This problem seems not that simple

More than likely you can modify a file to fix that. Now the question is what file and what to change.
It seems some of the user using that rom have the same problem.
Just wait for the next release
thanks.

[Q] ICS Lockscreen lag

Hi, i have been using XWLP9 stock rom + DXLP9 stock kernel for some days but i'm having weird lag issues with lock screen. I have had the same issues before with LP4 rom.
I use simple slide lock screen, but it also happens with pattern lock screen. Sometimes after pressing power or home buttons, after that screen turns on, screen is very unresponsive and i have to slide 3 times to unlock because it is laggy. Pressing home button again or waiting a bit before sliding reduce the problem, but it is irritating to do this every time i want to use my phone
I wiped everything before flashing and i'm not using external sdcard.
¿Is my phone faulty or is it a common problem on ICS roms? I never had this problems using stock GB rom.
Thanks for your help
Did you tried wiping?
I say backup your stuff, do a full wipe using cwm including format of system partition.
After that flash stock dxlp9 not xwlp9.
Wipe again using the dial code.
Don't think its your phone, might be bad flash.

Hi, thanks for your answer.
My phone is not rooted so i have not used cwm, but i did the following wipes in recovery mode before flashing: Wipe Data/Factory reset. After that i wiped sd. I flashed my phone twice doing that, first LP4 and then XWLP9.
I use that rom instead of DXLP9 because it has Spanish language. However, I flashed DXLP9 kernel on top of XWLP9 to avoid SOD issues.
What are the differences between cwm wipes and the wipes i did?
as atifsh said ,follow tht an get it rooted to enjoy the benefits of android.....read few posts for ,begginers, rooting, flashing it will help u instead of asking minor issues.....

get the cwm.zip, install it using the stock recovery, you will get touch version of cwm.
now goto mount and storage
format data, system, cache
goto advanced
wipe dalvik cache
reboot into download mode flash stock dxlp9 using odin
without signing let your phone start.
now see if you have those issues.
i think you will not have those issues anymore.
now you can flash any stock rom but please stay away from xwlp9. use xwlp7 instead.
Edit:
you never got rooted in the process above, if you dont want you are still as stock as you were before.
wiping the way i told will completly erase the OS from your phone thus you will have clean slate to start with.
if you want to stay on dxlp9, let me know ill tell you how to get spanish language for swype keyboard.

What about flashing the latest XWLPD and see if the problem exists? The non-wipe from Intratech should do if you have already wipe/clear everything prior to updating from Gingerbread to ICS..
I'm having the same problem with the unlock screen. I have stock XXLPH, but rooted. I've been having this issue almost since day 1.
It is so annoying that I decided to disable the lockscreen at all for now

I have just flashed my phone again (XWLPD Nordic Conuntries) following your steps but the problem persists. I formatted data, system, cache, wiped dalvik cache but the annoying issue is still there
Another idea?
It's called wake up lag or something like that. It's horrible, sometimes the screen is unresponsive 2 seconds after pressing the power button. Correct me if I'm wrong but i don't think GB had this problem, I've only noticed it on ICS. So no, it's not just you.
Guys, I got the damn issue solved, I flashed the leaked TW launcher(attached) from the SGSIII rom, then everything went fine and the device is soft and fast.
If flashing the new TW launcher didn't solve the problem flash the latest version of Siyah Kernel (im using 3.2.5.2)
http://www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/
I don't have that issue, yes if screen is of for some time waking it takes 2 3 secs, but it never lags to Swype, even if I hurry and unlock it right when screen shows.

Go to recovery mode
Wipe data / Wipe cache / Wipe dalevik cache
When finished, remove the battery to power-off the phone.
Launch ODIN on your computer and flash your full firmware (the lastest available for your phone).
Don't boot your phone between wipe and flash. When you push the battery on the phone, turn it directly in Download mode.
To finish, go to recovery mode and wipe data
It will remove all files for sure. I have similar issue with my I9300 : wipe data / wipe cache from recovery doesn't remove Clockwork mode and SuperSu !

Oupss. Can you give us information reported by *#1234# on dialer ? Perhaps a CSC <unknow> issue.
Have you tried flashing CF root and enter recovery and format the phone .
Outside of that it looks like a JTag repair or service centre repair .

Okay, So.. As the title says, i have googled for DAYS, Tried every damn thing i could get my hands on..
Now.
So far, im able to get into download mode, and also into recovery mode, I've tried doing a factory reset, and then flashing a stock rom, and i've tried every concevable method of fixing this damned phone, Its driving me crazy, I flash a new rom with odin, phone reboots, (adds to count) and is STILL stuck at that ****ty flashing samsung logo..
I'd really appreciate ANY help i can get, And i AM a noob at this, So i dont FULLY understand EVERY detail of this, But i've read around enough to know a few things.
My SGS3 has been out of commision for longer than i've actually used it.. So.. Yeah, Getting quite desperate!
Please let me know if there are any particular details yyou need!
Hi,
Your problem is EFS.IMG
Please clear it. Use Odin3 for that.
Boot into recovery and wipe data/factory reset, after you've flashed your ROM.
I had your problem some weeks ago,I finally managed to get arround this after I deleted the dalvik cache and flashed stock rom trough odin, and worked like a charm :good:
try this first before thinking of efs errors!

Cam't really help you with the EFS, but:
-bootloops are often fixed by installing rom then wiping data+cache from recovery as others said
-the dalvik cache can be wiped in the recovery, you can find "wipe dalvik cache" under the advanced submenu

Im in recovery mode right now (Vol UP+ Home + Power)? And i dont see an 'Advanced' menu option;
Options i DO have: reboot system now; apply update from ADB; apply update from external storage; wipe data/factory reset; wipe cache parition;
apply update from cache..
Any ideas?
These options are only available in a custom recovery.
Just try wipe --> flash stock room --> wipe

i just want to clarify... when you say 'flash STOCK rom' Do you mean i need to get a rom for a SGS3 VAU (Vodafone Asutralia) and flash that (go to odin, put it in PDA, etc)
and if THAT is the case.. Where would i get said rom, Because i've downloaded it from sammy firmware 4 times, each time it finishes the download without a hitch, when i go to extract the zip to get the needed files, it says its corrupted or some such BS..
Go to Sam mobile and download the firmware mate.
You will end up with a tar md5 file you flash using PDA section of Odin.
Good luck!

Kies is by far the easiest and safest way to factory reset. I have had to use it about 3 times in the past 6 months because I have flashed something I shouldn't have. Plus Kies now has a lite mode that is quicker at flashing your phone back to stock firmware.

Samsung Galaxy S3 boot loop

I've read some posts about boot loop on GS3 but I can't find a solution to my problem..I installed 4.2.2 on my phone to get rid of the stock ROM which was branded by my mobile operator (Orange Romania) and to have the latest software available..but now I want to downgrade to 4.1.2 because I am not satisfied with this OS(fb messenger crashes every time, options in the settings menu are not available, can't connect to Kies and so on). When I try to install 4.1.2 with odin, everything goes fine untill the phone enters in a boot loop. I tried to install UK international version unbranded and Orange firmware from my country. Then I try to reinstall 4.2.2 and it works!!! In some posts it is said that wipe data/factory reset should be used in order to solve the issue but I don't know exactly how to use that command.
My question is: can someone exactly explain what to do so that I can install 4.1.2 stock ROM, unbranded or at least get back to my original Orange firmware? Thank you in advance!!
Get yourself a custom recovery, like CWM or TWRP and flash it through Odin. Once you complete that shut down your phone and power it again by pressing volume up, power and home buttons at the same time, that will take you to recovery. There you will see the menu for wiping cache and dalvik cache as well as system and other partitions of your internal /external sd cards.
Try to use official firmwares instead of leaks. Always backup, nandroid and titanium (or any other app), reset the device (factory reset in recovery) and flash the ROM of your choice.

If you don't wanna encounter any FCs than yes, wipe out everything. It's more like a safety net, never goes wrong.
