In my bmw, I have a cable that I used to plug my iPhone in and was able to charge/play my music thru the interface. Since I switched over to SGS2 (love it btw), I haven't been able to find a suitable replacement for this cable. Is there anything like this for the SGS2, or am I out of luck?

I use the car dock that is made for the phone by Samsung.
Best Solution:
Get a new car. My 2010 Mazda M3 has Bluetooth in it so all I had to do is buy a new car charger and connected it to Bluetooth. That's for your best experience though.
Less than the best solution:
Buy a Samsung Car dock, hope you have an AUX port or get an FM transmitter! It's a lot of work to have this done right, clean and everything. But it works! You can find most of the parts on amazon for really cheap. But i hope your car stereo has an Aux port or Bluetooth cuz if not you are kinda gonna be screwed into buying a new one. I don't know of any that support connecting through usb on any other phone than the iPhone or a standard flash drive with just MP3s on it.

I have the same, wonder why the quality suks
I just use a simple cable from my headphone jack to my aux in jack. I do wish it was able to display stuff like track info and album art, but hey, first world problems I guess. Poweramp does the job.
I think it's because bt audio only streams at 96 kbs.

I don't know why you're having problems, but my bluetooth audio sounds heavenly using the gateway that I referenced in my earlier post.
And by the way, this 2003 spec sheet lists a top bit rate of 345 kb/s on Bluetooth 1.0. I don't know where you got your number.
BT streaming is worse than wired because you've got your phone/player transceiver encoding, and then the external receiver decoding your music. You can have all the bandwidth in the world but you'd still be limited by the quality of your transmitting and receiving hardware's digital audio capabilities.
I have one of these, it works very well. I've used FM tuners before and they all come in static-y. This one comes in perfectly, can charge your phone, has audio IN, and can be used as a hands free phone. Pretty nifty.

When I got my Qtek 1010 (XDA), I couldn't get a fold-up keyboard fast enough. Unfortunately, the keyboard was more of a disappointment than anything else (some of the buttons, especially the space-bar, have to be pressed _just_ a little harder to be recognised).
Now, with my i-mate (XDA II), the only extras I have indugled in (although I still carry the keyboard with me) is a 512MB SD Card (which is also not so great, cause it's an AGFA, and it's SLOOOOOOW).
How about getting yourself a GPS kit?

Are you looking in my shopping basket? They were the ones I'd added before I asked... I was hoping for somebody with some experiences of the extending charge cable - it could have been a very useful device or uselessly overcomplicated and fragile.
As for that laser keyboard... :shock:

They are so good at this kind of thing.
I recently bought a bluetooth headset from them which turned out not to be very robust. The ease with whcih I was able to send it back and get a full refund (including carriage costs) was excellent.
The most amazing thing about that laser keyboard is that it's £20 cheaper than the foldup one.
And don't forget Satellite Navigation. That is the 'Must Have'!

Umm, iPod butt-kicking? I've not found any 40Gb SD cards yet, and the battery life is mediocre enough without having it playing MP3s all day every day...

DAMMIT!!!!!! I thought of that 3 years ago!!!! They stole my idea!! Anyway, What about bluetooth mice or sdio camera. There's also external batteries that charge the pda, check out mobileplanet. Asus put out a wifi laptop hard drive enclosure, add a hard drive, and hook it up to the external battery, and you've got yourself up to 40 gigs of external storage. (I haven't checked to see if it'll work yet or not, but I don't see why not) And of course there's always gps.
And speaking of far fetched accessories, anyone wanna help me write a usb hub driver for the ppc so I can hook up my digital camera and nomad jukebox3, and use the jukebox 3 as storage for my digital pictures.
Once we get the hub working, there's no end to the usb accessories we can get.
BTW I also saw sdio video cards to do powerpoint presentations while on the road, and video capture cards.
Last but not least on my shopping list is the bluetooth cassette adapter. It's a cassette tape looking bluetooth hq audio adapter, for home or vehicle use.
I also remember something about an fm transmitter, I think it's an fm transmitter, so you can listen to your mp3 through your radio. There also has to be someone who makes a tv receiver, and a radio receiver for these things, there just has to be.

im trying to play my music on my g1 through the audio in my car. i have a 2006 corrolla, and it doesnt have any mp3 port or whatever. doesnt have anything actually its very basic, just has the radio and the cd player.
from what i know, theres only one way to do this, and thats to use those fm transmitter things to play it over the radio. but ive heard these things suck and the quality is bad and sometimes you cant even find a good frequency so it doesnt work. but i said eh ill try it myself, so...
i'd like some advice and opinions and what you guys think is the best, most reliable, and best quality fm transmitter.

I got one from ebay and it works, but adding weight to the lower usb connection does tend to cause problems. First I had to take the rubber nub off to make it easier to take in and out. But even still the connection was loose enough to unplug while driving, over bumps etc. End of story, it works, but just enough (if you find a decent station).
Pull out the the player and look at the back. If you have a mode control or aux key on the front of the unit then you will usually have a way to connect it the real way. They will have a left and right channel (white and red plugs), then buy an adapter l/r -> 3.5mm, and use the stock adapter or buy the htc breakout box which is what I have to charge and play.

Go buy a bluetooth enabled car stereo, that's what I did.
I've been using an FM transmitter for a couple of years now as I have the same issue with my car (Stock headunit which I can't be bothered to replace). I'm using a Kensington FM transmitter (Looks like this one http://www.anttiussa.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/kensington.jpg) and it works very well, I just have the three buttons assigned to frequencies that are mostly unused, if my signal starts to drop I just switch to another frequency on it and the radio. It's not perfect, hence why it's necessary to switch frequency when travelling through areas with stations active.
To be honest, I find local driving fine using only one frequency. Cheaper than replacing a headunit . I've used about 3 in total, some have been utter crap (High pitch squeals when plugged into the car) but this ones done me well .

If you go with a FM transmitter and have problems finding a clear frequency, try removing your antenna if it is easy to do. On my car - a 2001 prius - the ant just screws in. I remove it if I want to listen to my mp3s and screw it back on for radio listening. Very strong or very close stations can still be a problem, tho - And don't play with the antenna while driving, of course *S*
Forget FM transmitters - the quality will suck, it will add bulk to the phone and you won't be able to charge your phone while you're driving (which you will need to do if you are listening to music for over an hour!).
Bluetooth car stereos are really quite cheap. I have a Mutant MT2200BT, and you can now get the MT2300BT for less than £80. Its well worth it - I use it with spotify on my way to work every day... I basically have access to unlimited music in my car - hassle free! Make sure the ROM you are using has BT working (i.e. Dwang).

If you're concern is sound quality Bluetooth is going to stomp on your dynamic range as well. Wired is the only way to get the best sound quality your phone can produce.

I agree... but you will nonetheless be pleasantly surprised by the quality you can get through A2DP (BT Stereo). And it is really straightfroward to setup and use!
I'm thinking of the same thing. There are several ways.
1.Cheap : Buy a cheap car audio with usb port and use your phone as a USB Thumb drive - make sure the audio recognizes the device before you buy it.
60-70$
2. Cheaper - go to a local car audio repair shop and ask them to add AUZ input by 3,5 mm jack - it can be done, don't listem to them lazy bastards. Buy a HTC 3,5 mm connector and you are done. Costs about 40-50$
3. Normal - buy a motorola ot jabra Bluetooth - to - FM transmitter - search for stereo bluetooth fm transmitter on the web... they are about 100$
4. Expensive = 200$ - Buy a Sony A2DP car system. Make sure it supports A2DP and test it out in the store.
or you can go the route that i did with my silverado and ipod. iSimple makes a media gateway box. it plugs directly into your factory stero with a new harness and gives you 3 options. ipod input, rca input, or 3.5mm input. all can be controlled from the stock radio controls and it charges all "i" models. i use it with my hugeeeee old ipod video for trips here and there and then i use the 3.5mm or rca input with my g1 so i can use pandora.
you can pick it up at best buy and let them install it or you can do it. put it this way, if you can root a dream, you can plug in the new harness, seriously thats all it takes. from start to finish the job took me 35 minutes...
Ok, so I have already done my searches on here and tried finding users of the TF that are using Bluetooth audio receivers and had no luck. I was wondering if anyone on here has been able to stream music from their tablet to their stereo and if so what are you using and what is the best range you have gotten out of the product.
I will be streaming music from about 30 feet away with a direct line of site.
Any help would be great seeing as I have not had any luck here on the forum finding someone that shares my common interest in Bluetooth for the TF.

I hope I can help you, even if I'm quite new in this tablet stuff...
I just got my TF101 and one of the first things to do was to use my AudioPro RadioOne as speaker by Bluetooth.
I just simply activated BT in the Transformer, searched for visible BT to couple with it and once found, I entered the code given in the radio's manual. Immediately the sound switched to the radios speakers (and was cut from Transformer whilw I used the radio). The sound is as good as it can be and much better than with a cable.
I could go on listening being ~10m (30ft, I guess) away in an other room with the Transformer.
The Transformer works easily on BT, you might need to find out your receivers configuration and code, normally given in the owners manual.

For very good noiseless audio and MUCH further transmission than bluetooth, I use Audio Engine W1. The only thing it does require USB power. Should work with dock but I haven't gotten it to work yet; need straight power only pins out. A battery powered USB port should work. (plugged in to USB power) worked great at a presentation I did this past weekend.
Bluetooth should be straight forward. I use some sony bluetooth headphones that work great.
I'm still looking for a quality solution for using your own headphones. Bluetooth is not good enough really. Ideally I would like a usb transmitter and a wireless reciever I can plug my headphones into and can run for around 6 hours. Q-Bean-ST is the only thing I have found but they look like junk and the battery life is a bit crap.

Youre barking up the wrong tree. Bluetooth is "good enough." Where it isnt people are running audio to $400 IEMs and no wireless solution would be satisfactory. So, using that logic nobody develops it.
Maybe I just had a bad experience using a SE HBH-DS970. It constantly drops out and cannot go more than a few feet from the transmitter.
A lot of it has to do with the transmitter. My phone, for instance, seems to only get about 10 feet with line of site. The laptop can be in other rooms no problem. The TF, I just tested it, can only go one room over, once you get a few walls in the way it cuts out occasionaly.
This is all using the thumb sized receiver posted above, the amazon reviews make it sound like the powered belkin model has better range but I never pulled the trigger because if I am using it I am either in the car or in the living room having it play over the sound system attached to my dish/bd player/tv so I am no more than a dozen feet away at any given time.
I use the Voiis bluetooth audio receiver, works great! Good audio quality.
Well, the Nokia AD42W works great with my Transformer to listen to anything through my stereo. I got it very cheap in a local shop, it's possible that the product is discontinued...
Of course, there's the problem of delay. You have to forgive the lack of lip-sync when playing through BT, but it's a bit annoying at times. Audio quality is great, of course not as good as a direct connection.

Do have a slight issue with the Sony,
I can stream music through bt to the tv once paired,
But to send a picture to the tv I have to un-paire first

I have a stereo one, and it works fine as music listening but microphone doesn't work even if in the parameters it is recognized as phone and audio. we have to say that integrated microphone is so good that it is not necessary to to link to another one (joke)
2 days searching and no fix for that integrated microphone quality problem. the only solution is a (f...) wired headset.

So I'm looking to move out of the stone age and get a receiver unit for my car that has BT and some other bells and whistles if not too costly. My first problem is that when I look on manufacturers' websites, none of them have the MoPho on their compatibility lists. Maybe it's just an oversight, I don't know.
Does anyone out there have a stereo in their car that rocks the Photon? I'm open to suggestions. I see some are out that even have more Android control. Not sure what I'm looking for overall, but I definitely can't stomach becoming an Apple Fanboy. Thanks guys.
Mine is just a basic Sony receiver with BT, USB, and aux port and it works with the photon just fine. On the box it says it was for iphone /iPod and nowhere on the site, manual, or box does it say anything about android or photon. It was on sell at best buy for like 80 bucks from 110.

I just bought and installed a JVC with built-in Bluetooth, and it works great. Can control Pandora through the receiver, and can skip tracks in Google Play Music through the receiver. It also rings through the speakers and shows the caller's number on the receiver's display. I have yet to find anything it says it can do that turns out not to be compatible with the Photon. It was $139.99 on Crutchfield, and they threw in all the installation materials for free (dash kit, wiring harness, antenna adapter, and instructions). Best Buy wanted to charge me WAY too much for all that and installation, so I told them to screw off and did it myself.
Just as others said, any with BT built in should be ok. I didnt want to spend 160 though. I got a jvc w/ front usb and aux. And ipod controller for 90. Im cool with it.

Pioneer AVH-P5200BT DVD Player with Cardock (that I dont use most of the time) Works PERFECT with voice dialing, receiving calls. My only initial problem, I got it installed at BestBuy and it's illegal in PA to drive and watch DVD unless Parking Brake is applied. Quick trip to the hood....The rear player works with it too!!!
This is a tough call if you ask me. The screen is up when I use radio, to make calls, ect. How do you know, expecially if I tilt up some, what I'm doing?

I'm trying to make a one-connection, more or less universal, high quality audio and charger set up for my truck. Since the DAC is USB powered i'm not sure where the power would come from in this case. The phone or that adapter. I just like the simplicity of this unit for what i am doing (it's all going in my dash).
EDIT: I took the plunge and ordered a bunch of bits that SHOULD work (a UCA202 was cheaper, so ordered it). I'll take pics and document the setup and installation, post it all when its ready. It'll take a few weeks for the stuff to get here.

What I have done in my truck is use a Bluetooth stereo for streaming all audio from my HTC. If I were to install one HDMI screen I could have HD TV.
For charging, I just use a USB adapter in the cigarette lighter. Make sure you get one capable of outputting 1A or more, and also fools the phone into thinking it's connected to the mains.
When at a festival the other year, I used the tailgate as a makeshift bar, and the phone was streaming music over Bluetooth. I also had the stereo remote to control the volume, and used the air conditioning to chill some drinks. Although, will use a mini fridge next time as I used a shed loads of Diesel

What I was hoping for was to use USB to provide power and use a DAC to get better sound quality from the tunes that I get over bluetooth. This deck also has an auxiliary in on the back, but trying to avoid using the amped headphone out. I went with this deck because of the connection options and didn't care about touch screens. That's what my HOX+ or Nexus 7 are for. So having a single USB connection for everything would be great. Pretty much the only thing that iFail devices have on us.

Here is my start. I didn't get the DAC yet, and I need to wait for USB OTG with Charging before I can, but the set up is ready for it!
Sure looks good, but I'm unsure how the sound quality will be, I'm not sure how the DAC works by accessing the USB.. Does it just see it as a USB storage device? If you're playing MP3's anyway, why not just stream over Bluetooth. Once the track is digital, Idon't think that you would want to convert to analogue unless it's playing it directly.
Are your MP3's a decent bit-rate? I have never had an issue with MP3's over Bluetooth. I normally download weekly music podcasts and stream those.
I'm gonna chime in hear and say just bought the pioneer Afh x5500, and although my EVO LTE streams spotify and stock music player over Bluetooth, it does not send track info whatsoever. My note 2 did but, I prefer the EVO. So, I'm waiting for the 8500 to come in now because it has hdmi input onboard so it should be able to take hdmi to mhl and then perform correctly. As well as apradio functions. Anyone have any experience with this? Or, does anyone know how to get Bluetooth to stream song/album info to the head unit?

One of the #1 reasons I got the HOX+ was the 64GB storage for my FLAC collection. Originally this concept I started while I had the Galaxy S3, which with a kernel and CM 10 can enable the DAC output while allowing the device to still recieve the charge.
That said, the deck you mentioned with HDMI might just do the trick too. And it really would be universal. Hmm.... I like this deck (It was old when I got it) because I don't really care for touch/dvd in my dash. This has a big rotary control knob, and I even have the lights turn off at night so I just control everything from the phone (except Volume). But i'll look into the one you suggest.
Anyway. This set up will do the trick for now. I hard wired the charger and AUX into the stereo harness so it looks clean and stock. I doubt I'll really tell much of difference anyway without the DAC at this point. I'm not getting any line noise like I thought I might.
Well, ill write back after I get the new deck. I'm really hoping for all functions or ill have to figure something else out...

OP, any update on whether the DAC and cable worked with the HOX+?
I'm interested in getting a DAC to work with my high impedance in ear monitors. The driver in the phone doesn't have enough output power to adequately drive them.
