I've read that ics for galaxy nexus was build on kernel 3 based on compatibility and i was wondering if is it possibel to build a kernel 3 for galaxy ace for a better compatibility of ics and jellybean or the present kernel is enough for it..
The kernel 3.x would improve many things. But its really hard to back port it to work with our ace. So still no development in that regards.
First of all, the kernel is good enough. Secondly, the end user won't benefit much, considering that v3 is for all Linux devices, including desktops.
This has already been posted before. Use search next time.

Not really possible - Ace need some models to access internal memory, and samsung didn't give as access to they source. If we got 3.X.X kernel it will by only possible to boot it from sd-ext, and this made rom really slow.

I saw in the Galaxy 3 forums that they are trying to port kernel 3.x so that ICS can be better.
If they succeed, we can confirm that SGA is also capable of running it!
But porting it will be very tough....

module thing is true but it can be bypassed with MTD.. there was a project to get fully 3.x CAF kernel on msm7227 but its not actively developed anymore.. and our odin don't have repartition thing so it will be tricky to do so..
it is hard job but not worth doing as there will be not much of a difference to end user

Please guys I am currently on resurrection remix v3.0.5 using siyah kernel. Can you please guide me how to dual boot it with miui rom or any other rom.I am using galaxy s3 I9300(International Version).
Really excited about this.:good:
deleted, not useful, sorry
siyah doesnt support dual boot on s3 as of now.. hope to get it soon.. coz i loved it when I had it on my s2... GOKAN pls make it work
Gokan said it's in his plans to add it...I'm pretty sure that once the gs3 Jellybean source code is released the kernel devs will start cooking like crazy can't wait
Why do we need yet another dual boot thread .

First videos on YouTube appeared! As Google throws this thread on top it would nice to see a guide/tutorial/link here on how to do it.
Best regards,
Xy
there is a guide in the kernel thread

that's funny
Would it work normally? Would it make the phone unusable? Would it work, but with problems?
Or even the Galaxy SII's ROMs, will there be problems if I flash them on my Galaxy SII Lite (Galaxy S Advance/GT-I9070)?
I just installed a custom ROM for the Galaxy S Advance (the only one I found), but this custom ROM is exactly the same as the default ROM... it is just rooted... but it makes no difference, it is easy to root the original ROM too.
Its default ROM version is Gingerbread (Android 2.3), and the custom ROM is based on Gingerbread too. If I flash an ICS ROM or a Jellybean ROM (made for Galaxy S or SII), will my phone show problems? Has anyone ever tested this?
If I flash a custom ROM made for another device, will I be able to reflash the old ROM? I'm pretty sure I will, but asking just to make sure.
Thanks.
May be SoftBrick! )

Please find the following Jet mode 3.0 ICS themed Rom for I9070 .. I don't think you will be able to flash I900 or SII Rom on this the drivers and Hardware libraries will be different for each of these phones and i dont think you will be able to boot with other roms.
If we were able to just Flash the other ROM we would not have porting the ROMS happening right ?
Yeah, right... thats true.
But thanks anyway, at least there is an ICS ROM for I9070... Thank you for the link!
The phone wont boot because there is No ics kernel for s advance so dont need to try it

You will brick your phone. The chipset of Advance is very different from i9000 and i9100.
Try that and say goodbye to your device!
You can only flash roms made to your device, and only for it... there's no way to flash roms for different devices on yours.
Its really strange that no developer is coming up for this great device. Even galaxy grand have slim bean, resurrection remix and other roms. Why on earth developers are not trying to make some roms for mega?

Imho the simple reason is Samsung have not made available the SOURCE for the firmware of Mega.
We have a few ROMs and couple guys working on CyanogenMod............yeah maybe we don't have slimbean or PAC or aokp or ....well the list can go on but a stable clean CyanogenMod base is probably more important to get right before creating added features to it.

Damn it is that true? I thought that we have the source for the FW.
So thats the reason why we still stay with stock ROMs. Hmm..
I love my Mega but we need some developer attention that would do miracles around here.
It will all come in time

Truely what is it behind any custom rom that stock rom +utilities could offer! Most of the time with good utilities one could have the best rom there is the stock one (less bugs) and good overall performance ..we can always add or eleminate any stock apps...them drivers are the worst nightmare devs facing specially for latest roms ported for a defferent devices.

+1
My previous phone it was Motorola Defy, with locked bootloader, forgotten by it's parent company and not upgraded any more from Froyo stage. THEN it was sensible to seek custom roms to have newer system.
Now I do not need so - my system is mostly up to date and probly will be upgraded (soon) to KitKat. All TW futures suited me well, so what is the reason to flash not fully functional custom ROM? Rooting the phone is another question (in fact - this is NO question )
Building JB Stock Based Kernel for Galaxy S2..... Well, somebody to help me with instructions? can i modify( and/or rebuild) XY kernel from "somebody" who already done that? And ofcourse before even starting doing that, to ask him if he lett me to?
btw, is it true what Chainfire sad:
" However, if you put any trust in Quadrant scores
you could use them to prove that dancing naked for 5 minutes in your
garden affects device performance "

There is many CM's for your phone. I have same model for over 3 years, dont use S5830 version roms because you can brick your Ace, This version is called "Cooperve" i/M/C is almost same, S5839i have lil faster CPU thats all, just dont use S5830 roms, every rom is tagged as S5830 idk why but it is, just check in first posts of topic is it version for i/M/C I was using RazoDroid v2.5 over 2 years and rafael.baugis kernel atm im testing another mods. It is pretty old android device dont expect miracles, going to change it for something better soon.
