Android Market and Build.prop concerns - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sup guys, you can probably tell I'm new here and I have some issues.
Sometime this morning I decided to try and install Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Ep. II on my Samsung Galaxy Indulge R910. I came to find out that it is only compatible with 2.3 and higher, but my Indulge is running 2.2 and there are no GB ROMs for it yet. I scoured the web and found a "solution" to it. If I go into build.prop and change the ro.build.version.sdk=8 to ether sdk=9 or 10, the app not only installs, but runs, too. It worked.
NOW here's my problem: My market doesn't work when sdk=9 or 10, keeps FC-ing unless I change it back, but then the Sonic app disappears and I need the market to download the SD Data for the game. Is there a way to get the market to run without the force close? Do I need a "newer" market version? Or are there more settings I need to try? I tried this one idea, by swapping vendor.apk with another, but same results happen! ANY help on the situation would be appreciated!

You need to clear Google Play Store and Google Framework Services data in: settings>applications>manage applications>(find both and select the "clear data" button).
You should also try using Chainfire 3D, which you can find on Google Play Store. You may not have not edit the build.prop and you can download and play Tera-based games as well through Tegra Zone (also found on Google Play).
There's also an option in Chainfire 3D to "forget market settings" to allow for this...

Thanks for the effort, but no avail

I tried the methods above, but they didn't help my problem. The Chainfire 3D seems cool for performance in 3D apps, but it has nothing to do with allowing GB apps to run on FROYO.
It has to do with the build.prop file, as I've said before. I changed the SDK version to allow or Sonic 4 ep 2 to come up, but my market continues to crash.
ro.build.version.sdk=8 (default) Market works fine, cannot use GB apps and GB apps that somehow were installed by changing SDK version now disappear from installed apps lists and menus.
ro.build.version.sdk=9 or 10 Market fails to operate correctly, keeps Force Closing, but GB apps install naturally, run naturally and behave just fine.
It's like 2 sides of a coin that can't be spent...

Bump
Seriously does anyone know how this could be done? I know there's a way, but I just don't know how and Google is coming up dry... Help please!

[Q] Many Apps Saying "Incompatible With Your Device"

I'm running the CM7 nightly roms on my NC, and I've recently noticed a number of apps no longer listed as compatible from the market. Angry Birds for example, does not have the install button on the previous market, and on the new 3.1.X market actually has a message at the top of the window that says incompatible.
The web version of the market has my nook grayed out in the install window.
My build.prop is the stock CM7 one, no hacking.
What gives?
I had the same problem and believe the is some other posts for this.
My fix was:
1. diable wifi
2. uninstall the market update
3. backup and uninstall market updater with titanium backup
Sent from my NookColor
My fix is:
set resolution to 160dpi (using LCD Density app or hacking build.prop) and clear Market data
???
profit!!!
Many apps which I have downloaded from market before are saying that they are not available in my country. Whats the point excluding countries? Do the dev wanna make money or not?

I did this..I couldn't run Yahoo fantasy football app
1.disabled market update..use old store
2. Froze market update in titanium backup
3. cleared cache and data from store app and from Google services frameworks.
I can now download yahoo and other programs that would not even give me a download button...
I just installed cm7 7.0.0 stable along with the gapps and it came with the new market what would be the best way to allow me to download the tablet version of apps along with google maps/earth right now they say incompatible

Some countries do not have paid app support. Sometimes the dev just likes to keep stuff in the US to not have any problems with money conversions, import/export laws, etc.

Hi, I edited my build.prop manually and changed the fingerprint/description to match a Nexus S using:
ro.build.description=soju-user 2.3.4 GRJ22 121341 release-keys
ro.build.fingerprint=google/soju/crespo:2.3.4/GRJ22/121341:user/relelease-keys
rebooted, cleared cache, dalvik, in cwm and booted and everything shows up and works - facebook, netflix, etc...
I just #commented out what was there and added the lines below, saved, rebooted and viola!
Im on CM7 nightly 08312011 on my Nook Color, hope that helps!
PS. I havent messed with the market updater/etc.. Im using the 3.13(cant remember off hand) version of the market posted also, everything showed up before n after.

I've seen this solution a lot except the others didn't say clear market data. I just wanna emphasize that point. It makes the difference.

I also set dpi to 160. I didn't see any fixed app info until I took my Nook to a wifi network I've never used before and ran Google Market; it showed (for the first time after autoupdating to the newer GM a few weeks ago) the accept/deny conditions window. After clicking accept, GM started showing not only the usual apps, games, books sections but also movies. Half my apps which weren't showing updates before showed available updates. Google Market itself updated to the latest edition, still showing Movies.
I'm not sure if using the NC at a brand-new location did something to market data, but if the dpi fix isn't working I would recommend trying (the market data clear).

To get it to work you need to clear market data. That is the main part of the dpi fix not something new.

Well, point was I haven't actively cleared market data, but apps that were blocked before came back and movies are now active --- so does GM do a market data clear when joining a new network or was it something else?

The market auto-updates data. This is also why it breaks again after awhile.

Market seems to be fixed, most likely on Google's server end. A number of us have not needed to clear market data for several days now. I'm going on 4 days with fully functioning market at 160 and no data clearing. Joenathane is experiencing the same. It is possible that this is what angomy experienced albeit in an indirect fashion.
I did not notice till I flashed the newest gapps (0823), so can't say for sure why it is working. Would suggest those clearing market data before opening the app to stop doing so for a while and see if the apps list stays solid.
incompatibility in market
after trying everything, i also found that (atleast for me) if i cleared data for the market, that fixed it.
thanks,
Dagnus

Getting App's back on Market

So after a few months a flashing I have a problem (not a big one but a bit irritating). I have a bunch of app's and know some of them don't get recognized by the Android Market. I tried forcing them with titanium backup but it didn't work.
I could go by each app one by one and checking if I have them on Market, if not I can delete and re-download. Any advice? I really have a lot of app's so I hope there is a simple solution

You're missing some information here. Which ROM do you use? Which apps? (Give examples). Do they show up in the market but say incompatible or do they not show at all? Which version of market do you use? What do you mean "Forcing" with titanium? As in fix market links? Uninstall and reinstall with titanium?
All I can say is if you use a different DPI setting than stock, some apps will not show up on the market or say they're outright incompatible. But there's too much info missing to say anything more...
I'm on CM nightly #116. Also I have Siyah kernel 2.0
As an example I always had Angry Birds, Angry Birds RIO and Angry Birds Seasons. Under "My App's" in the Android Market only the original Angry Birds was there. However if I went to Angry Birds RIO on the Android Market it would show that it is on my phone because I could update it or delete it. But it was never under "My App's". And another example is an App named Fontomizer SP. It wasn't under "My app's" But when I searched for it on the Android Market I could open or delete it.
The problem is that when it tries to autoupdate app's it skips those app's (and many others).
Just clear the Market data under 'Manage applications' and reboot your phone.
When you restart Market it will show the Market agreement again, but all your apps should now appear under 'My Apps'.
Didn't work. I wiped data just like you said. Accepted terms and conditions. But still same problem. I don't get it, it must be some kind of information that is linked with my google account. App's show up installed when I search for them. But under "My App's" there not there. Only deleting and re-installing seems to work. But that will take so long. Maybe I can try to clear data that has been saved to servers when I log in on Market on PC
Hmmm... do you have Market updates installed?
If so try uninstalling them (the 'Uninstall updates' button will be enabled) as well as clearing the data.
If not then I have no idea...

Chainfire 3D games. (cm7 only)

Ok, So as many people have noticed, it's possible to install chainfire if you are running cm7. (Stock nook rom bootloops when you try to install, so if you don't know what "cm7" is, or "stock nook rom" don't even think about installing chainfire 3d unless you are a masochist.)
This thread is dedicated to what games you have been able to run on the NT with chainfire installed, and a quick mention of what settings you used to get it to work.
I've so far only downloaded and installed TegraZone, and got it to forward me to the market download pages. (not yet had the time to download anything) Though I am looking forward to playing around with it.
I will be compiling a list of games and what settings were successful here as people list them.
Soulcraft THD runs with reduce texture quality and the nvidia plugin. It lags when some spawns load, but this doesn't seem to prevent playing.
Street Fighter IV runs with Qualcomm plugin.
Ive got Chainfire3D set up but how exactly (and where exactly) does one obtain the nvidia drivers?
Sent from my CM7 Nook Tablet
Nevermind i found em and installed but afterwards i still cant run any of the games. I chose the nvdia driver under opengl and clicked fix market but still says its uncompatible with device. Itll load the market page from the tegra app but then it says its uncompatable

After I installed the chainfire plugins I cleared the data on the market app and rebooted. I used fix market of course and the market no longer shows me the incompatible with this app message.
Trying to get princess punt thd working but so far no luck at all. Thinking I'll be skipping it and moving to the next game

Hmm, Other things I have setup in my settings might make a difference. In the chainfire menu, I've got the nvidia driver setup under default for all apps, and setup as well under per app for the tegra app store. Try making those changes, clear your market data again and reboot (and refix the market)

Hmm. When I first installed the tegra app, I couldn't install from the market. (was trying to install soulcraft) I searched a bit, and found an apk online to download. it installed easy enough via es file explorer, but wouldn't run. I uninstalled the chainfire driver, and reinstalled it with the box checked for the beta egl driver. I then set the nvidia plugin under defaults with chainfire and cleared the market data. (I think this is also where I fixed permissions with rom manager for good measure). after rebooting and setting up chainfire for tegra app to use the nvidia plugin (and only nvidia plugin) for good measure, I also clicked on fix market again for good measure, I tried soulcraft and it still wouldn't run. I went into the tegra app and looked up soulfire. It went to the market download page and the update button was available. I clicked update. the app redownloaded and updated. Now it loads, and I notice that all the thd apps are showing me a download option in the market now.
Somewhere in all this the market started working with the tegra apps. Searches now will show up THD apps and downloads work fine too. I can't think of any other actions i took in trying to get them to load. Perhaps it was the fix permissions that tweaked things. not certain if it was the using the market to update soulfire but I don't see how that could be. I just assumed it was the clearing market data that did it. It might also be the beta egl driver that did it.
Lol ill try that soon when i have the time. Yu really want these tegra games dont you? And are they actually running smooth on the tab?

I've noticed a lot of games seem to come out first for the tegra based devices take soulcraft for instance. I read somewhere it's coming out for all devices soon, but the first release was tegra. When it comes to gaming, I'd rather not wait for several months to play a game if I don't have to.
As for running smooth, so far yes and no. I'm finding that soulcraft plays quite smoothly for the most part. However there are points where it freezes up for like 20 seconds while new creatures are loading. this hasn't negatively impacted gameplay but it's annoying. Otherwise it's played as smoothly as if it was meant for the NT. Still havn't been able to tweak princess punt to work, so I will move onto the next game I see later on tonight.
Ok, After tinkering with reinstalling chainfire after various rom flashes I think the key to get the market to show the tegra apps is simply to first wipe the market data. Second use the "fix market" button in chainfire.
If anyone cares Street Fighter IV runs with the help of Chainfire 3D and the Qualicomm (sp?) driver. Had to mess around a bit and watch a youtube video, it runs well but compared to other games the graphics are just ok and it can be a little choppy.

[Q] "this item cannot be installed in your country"?

so i live outside the US and to make most of all android apps and games visible in my google play is to use market enabler. and it is working since forever until lately, when i try to download cheezia, real steel, cheeseman, mars smash and many other games then the box says "this item cannot be installed in your country".
its weird, usually its not like this. i can press download, and accept download the permissions then when the download about to start this message appear "this item cannot be installed in your country". its annoying because usually its not like this and i even already use market enabler to trick my phone that i live in the US.
do any one of you mini pro, mini, lww users has this problem too?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582422
try this.......
nevermind. close this thread please.
cant believe i fixed it just by clearing the data and cache of the google play
I cleared the cache and app data and it still isn't working for me. Im trying to get the HBO GO and MAX GO because it works with my ICS phone FINALLY! My phone is rooted and has market enabler.

[Q] Freedom 1.0.6 Google play store 5.2.13?

Hello guys,
I hope I'm at the right place to ask a Q and If I'm at the wrong place, please forgive me. My Q is. I have Freedom 1.0.6 with Market unlocker and it used to work with previous Google play store.
It doesn't work now with the new Google play store update and I don't know why. When i try to purchase gems etc, it just says Google play store has stopped. So is there any solution to solve this problem? I will gladly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!
play store 5.2.13 update is broken!
same problem here, anytime I click on any app - play force closes/crashes and it says "google play store has stopped" I called google and they were a bunch of a-holes about it, insisting that it was only my device and my problem. glad to read that this is widespread! although for some reason my other devices dont update themselves and stay on the previous play version 5.1.11
PS I dont have freedom and I just found out that freedom is warez. i suggest that you edit ur post and take out any mentioning of warez and focus on the real problem which is play store update 5.2.13 and perhaps that way u grab the attention of the right people who can help us. Nobody on here will help this post if ur mentioning warez!!!

What can we do?
So what can we do to solve this problem? Is there anything we can do?
Well, I will try to to downgrade my google play store and see if it works. Maybe Freedom doesn't support Android 5.2.13 which is the play store. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who is having this issue.
Same issue re: Google Play Store 5.2.13
EDIT: Please note that I don't use Freedom, however I am experiencing similar issues.
Having the same issue, on a very old device: Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE (model # SGH-I957R). Stock TouchWiz 4.0.4, device rooted with SuperSU 2.46.
My steps to duplicate the error:
1. Tap Google Play Store > app opens normally
2. Tap Search button > type in app name
3. In search results, tap an app (Facebook for instance) > page appears to load > freezes and then crashes, producing the error "Unfortunately, Google Play Store has stopped."
4. Google Play Store closes and tablet revers to app drawer
The temporary method I've used to get around this: in your search results, tap the three dot menu on the app you want and then tap Install. Skips the app description page entirely and works fine.
So far I've tried using the steps in this XDA thread and also these Android PIT instructions, but no luck. No amount of clear cache + clear data + force stop + uninstall updates + disabling/re-enabling apps + signing out and then back in of Google Account has worked thus far. Will report back with more finding once I find a solution!
Freedom and luck patcher are banned on this site and you will not get any help concerning them.

exactly the same is happening with me. the 3 dot menu is brilliant fix for now. i've also tried everything just like u but nothing seems to work. btw - some of my other devices upgraded their market to 5.2.13 as well but they dont have this problem. i wonder if it is related to the OS? my crashes happen on ICS OS 4.0.3 and on my other device JB 4.3.1 play store 5.2.13 works ok. Note to administrator: please do not block me, i am the one who told that guy not to post about warez! now my xda app seems locked as I cant access my participated and under my profile i cant access the list of my posts either. admin - did u do smthng to my accnt?? pls dont! i am telling ppl NOT to post about warez.
