Copied a couple of GB of photos to my External SDCard.Rebooted phone, nothing showed up,but all videos and music that were on the card were still showing in Video Player,Gallery and Music Player. So I unmounted the card via settings ,remounted .now nothing shows up at all.
If I browse through Root Explorer I can see all my media, and when I look in Settings/Storage the card shows up.
I thought perhaps it was the card(only bought last week) could be the problem, so I stuck my old MicroSD card in which has some media on it, same thing.Any ideas?
Should have said. When I take a photo it is stored on the micro SD card. That works OK
Is it just teh gallery that causes an issue?
If so try what this guy suggests here to do a rescan of the media:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27787690&postcount=3
No, nothing shows up.No videos, no music and no photos
I decided to reset the phone (from Settings) .Set it up again and all seems well again
Today I added some more albums to my external SDCard.Again, after doing so,none of the new mp3s showed up.Removed SDCard, and like before, NOTHING on the SDCard shows up.So I thought I would do what I did last time and wipe the phone. This time though it didn't do the trick, and nothing is showing up.Even reinstalled the original stock ROM,still nothing.
Have tried with a couple of different cards with the same outcome, nothing on SDCard appearing on phone(I can see the card in My Files and browse all the individual files OK).
Assuming there is something wrong with the phone , I guess all I can do is return to store, however I did unlock the phone using Voodoo Unlocker. Can this be reversed?
Can anybody help??
Either with the SDCard problem or know whether the Voodoo Unlock is reversible??
TIA
This problem has resurfaced.Installed Omega 8.1 Rom .Opened Music Player., nothing there.Same for Gallery and Video Player.
The thing is I downloaded PowerAmp,added the folder that has my music in and it works fine. Open QuickPic and all my pictures are shown, as are my videos which I can play in Video Player.
I can transfer a song to my internal memory, it shows up. Transfer it back to extSDCard, it disappears.
After flashing a stock ROM the problem is still happening.
The strange thing is ,the phone recognises there is an external card. When I open the camera app, I get the pop up asking me if I want to store my photos on the sdcard.I do, and it works fineand any picture I take on the phone shows in Gallery). It just seems to be a problem with any media. Its doing my head in.
Please save me from having to go buy an iPhone4s, because as boring as it may be, it does,as they say "just work"
This sounds software-related to me. Have you tried flashing a stock ROM and testing without installing any applications to the device? It's possible that one of the apps you have installed is causing some sort of problem.
It is still possible that the external SD card has a fault though. Have you tried a different one? Additionally, why are you using the external card rather than the internal memory?
All roms for me never find video or mp3 on external sd card .
Notable that Kies places Video in DCIM/Camera folder if you ask it to transfer filers to ext sd card and likewise music on ext card is media folder .

yes, tried 3 sdcards.
Have 10GB of music. 2GB of photos. So I need to use the external SDCard ,as I would already be out of room.
This has worked fine. The last week or so there has been no problem.I have been flashing ROMS, adding media to SDCard with no issue.
How about apps? Have you tried doing this with no other applications installed?
I havent, but I am going to do a full wipe flash again without installing any apps.

If you do that and it works ok, just install one app at a time until you find the culprit. Then uninstall it and email the developer!

Well that cant be right can it. There surely would be little point in having an external SDCard in that case. You cant put apps on it, you cant put music or video on it? (well not if you want to use stock apps)
Well, that didnt work.Fresh install of ROM, no apps installed. No music/Photos.
So thats stock ROM, Omega 7.1 (last known working with that ROM) and Omega 8.1 flashed probably half a dozen times over the last 24+ hours.
The only music and vid that appear are the Samsung installed demo ones.

Weird. I have music and media stored on my external SD card, and everything reads and functions fine (on Wanamlite using Ninphetamin3).
Have you tried changing kernels?

No I havent. If it is something I should try I will have to have a read up. I have only rooted and flashed ROMs, never changed Kernels.
Edit:
I have used drag & drop when phone is connected to PC, I have used a card reader.Card has been formatted in the phone, in the card reader.
I have used Easy Phone Sync ,just tried Kies and that syncs fine to the external card.
It surely must be a software problem.

Definitely try flashing a new kernel - have a look through the dev sections.
It's worth reformatting the sdcard in the phone as well, using the phone software to do it - that should eliminate any weird permissions-related problems.
I have my ATT version SGS3 loaded with a 64GB microSD card and used iSyncr to transfer my entire library of about 13,000 songs from iTunes to the card (about 55 GB) on an Win 7 PC, including playlists.
Problem - When I call up a music player, it seems that about 200 songs are missing. If I look in file manager on the phone itself, I can see a bunch of files with zero size and a 1969 last modified date. I assumed they just got corrupted in the transfer. But when I plug my phone into my PC as a media device and look at Windows Explorer, I can only see the just some of the first artists folders (the ones that start with A and B) and none of the rest of them, even though the rest ARE visable on the phone though file manager and the music player. To further confuse the issue, when I take out my microSD card and plug it directly into the comoputer WITHOUT my phone, I see everything, AND the same files that have zero size in the file manager on the phone are perfectly fine on the card!
I'm sure this is just some issue with the "Mediastore" corruption (.e. ICS references all "real" media files by creating a shortcut entry in it's "mediastore" and that's what it exposes to the PC and players), but when I try to clear our all the data in the mediastore (Settings->Application Manager->All->Media Storage->Clear Data) and then reboot the phone and wait an hour+ for the media store to rebuild, it did NOT solve any of the issues described.
I can reformat the card and try to start again, but I was wondering if anyone else has any ideas at all what might be going on here?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!
Does anyone have any thoughts on why this might be?
If your 64GB sd card was formatted in your phone or has the out of box format which is exFat, that's your problem. Many users are finding corrupt files because of this. Format your card to Fat32 and you'll be fine.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using XDA Premium HD app
Having similar problem with MediaMonkey and Windows Media player..
Will try FAT32 tonight.

However, data on the actual card is NOT corrupted if I read it directly in a microSD card reader. It only appears corrupted once I put it in the phone and look at it though the PC. I think it's because the Mediastore that ICS is creating is faulty, but I can't seem to clear the faulty media references.
So I don't think is a format thing. Anything else?
Still could be a exFat thing if the phone is being read through MTP.
This is a snip of what I posted in the other thread, but basically format your card to FAT32 and you can easily eliminate that problem.
Did some researching as to why Team Epic won't support exFAT. Found this page talking about how many OS's support only FAT32. Here's a link to that page: http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm There is a Windows GUI to format it to FAT32 for drives larger than 32GB: http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm

No it's not a card format thing definately.
I did the following:
1) I formatting the card to FAT32 which wiped out all the data.
2) I refreshed the mediastore on the phone, and put the card back in and re-refreshed the mediastore
3) With the mediastore showing NO media on the sd card, I reloaded all 13,000+ songs from scratch using iScyncr
4) I looked at the SD card's content with the phone still plugged into my PC without Windows Explorer and everything was there and NOT corrupted at all.
5) I unplugged my phone, rebooted it and gave mediastore about an hour to refresh itself
6) I looked at the contents on my phone using a file manager on my phone and the SAME EXACT 200 or so files were corrupted and would not play. All had a 1969 file date and showed zero size, with strange double extensions like .mp4aS.mp4aa and similar
7) I plugged back in my phone to the PC and both Kies and Windows explorer could now only see the about 10% of the content cut off alphabetically (a's and most B statting artists)
8) I took the sd card OUT of the phone and plugged it into my PC directly using a card reader. Now I could see EVERYTHING and none of the files that were listed on my phone as corrupted were actually corrupted on the card, and the file extentions were all the normal .mp4 and would play correctly
9) I put the card back in my phone and tried various music players and all could see the same number of songs which EXCLUDED the 200 corrupted songs.
10)I tried copying one of the songs directly to the card from my PC and then transferring that copied song into the correct artist folder on the phone and THEN I could see the song in the phone's file manager.
So man - I'm now TOTALLY confused!! Any ideas from anyone?
EDIT: Seems like FAT32 might be working for me.. still testing.

Doubt it. Check your NUMBER of songs between source PC and your phone after the transfer.
I think the problem is with the mediastore on the S3, or maybe the syncronizer (iSyncr in my case). I'm gonna try to sync with Tunesync instead and see what happens. I still suspect it's the mediastore corrupting some of it's media referencing when things are copied, because the actal files themselves when referenced outside the phone are NOT corrupted, just the mediastore reference to them, which is the only thing the phone let's you view (in ICS at least).
The only way to find the number of files on the phone is by looking at the directory on windows. But the number of file match
5332 files
So I search through the forums and I can't find quite my issue, so hopefully I'm not reposting, or if so, please direct me to an answer.
I bought a 32gb sd card months back and it worked fine for a few months, then when I starting switching around some roms I noticed some files were getting corrupted. I used the card mostly for music storage, and sometimes a single second of a track would play and then it would skip to the next, do the same, and I'd find out the entire album was corrupted. Since then I've tried reformatting it, trying switching from exfat to fat32 to ntfs depending on the rom I'm currently using, but not matter what file format on any rom it always does the same. I also get a lot of write errors on it when I try to delete things from it.
The weirdest part of all this is that the original 10 or so albums I had on the card to begin with, minus a couple that stopped working, are all still working fine! I can delete them off, reload them back from a backup, and they still play! Any new music I try to add always does the same thing. It gets corrupted the second I unplug the phone.
Any suggestions?
Hello all.
I am running Twisted v7 FINAL, and I am having issues with my external SD card. I have already tried the 4.4 fix, manually editing platform.xml, and even a full ODIN and reroot, but to no avail. This issue just started recently, and I am unable to add music files through MediaMonkey, or delete files through poweramp. Yet, the card obviously had write permissions of some sort, as I am able to store and delete photos from my camera on the sdcard without issue. This problem is very strange, as on occasion, I am able to sync a few songs, before getting an error in windows. And when I try and drag and drop the files manually in WinExplorer, I get a "the storage media has either stopped responding or has been removed" error. Any thoughts or suggestions? I know I can just use my MicroSD adapter and remove the chip from my phone every time, but it's really annoying and I don't always have it with me.

I'll attempt once I have a stable means of backing up all my content. Thanks. Its now working somehow if I use USB3, so we'll see.
Redmi Note 4
MIUI version: 9.0.5.0
Andriod version: 7.0 NRD90M
Recently purchased a new SD card 128gb.
Its recognised and picked up by the phone, i can transfer files to it via USB, however on then trying to play music it will glitch out and lag, replaying the same section of song over and over, it doesnt even play the song you choose but a different song completely.
I can't make new folders or edit the sd card from within the phone. I've tried this on file explorer and ES file explorer, neither work.
I've re-formatted the SD card through the phone and via a PC and yet the same problem persists.
When i go to Settings>Storage the SD card shows as reading and gives me the options of unmounting or erasing and formatting, both of which i've tried also.
I've tried multiple music platforms also with no success. Its almost as if the files are being corrupted when they are being played.
Please have some solution to this madness! The SD card works fine in the pc and files are not corrupted? only when it is in the phone is there a problem. Further more when i move the music from the SD card to the internal storage it plays fine without any lagging or glitches?
Many thanks

Sadly, you cannot write stuff to thw sd card, that is make folder or copy using the phone, *without root* so that's the reason why you are not able to make folders. I guess with nougat you are restricted to some extent, but not so that you are unable to play music. Maybe thats just miui, i am gunna flash miui in some days and will let you know if that happens with me too.

Hmm, thats annoying. I shall have to try out nougat, gunna take a while to download tho..
That would be handy if you could tell me if you face the same problem? Do you think because you cannot write to this card putting music files on there via a pc would then stop the music being played? it doesn't make much sense!

Ok so here is the conclusion, but firstly there are somethings which i want you to know. So yesterday i downloaded the stable miui 9 build from the website and it was downloaded successfully, but when i tried to install it. Twrp said the file is corrupted. So today once again, i starter the download of the build, and to my bad luck, it said corrupted again. Nevermind i had the December build (7.12.67 developer weekly) so i installed it. And now as of sound, i had a music file on my sd card, and I played it with the default music app, and it played with no errors. Then i tried it with es file manager (no root provided) and there also it was good. Now after i was done testing with miui, i installed resurrection remix 5.8.5 and here also it works well, the music is played without any error. So i guess this seems to be a bug of the software , maybe? Btw i have a sandisk 8 gb regular sd card (no high speed or class 10). Maybe it's the huge size of sd card, because of which the music stutters, since the music app has to actually scan whole of the sd card for files. On a side note, i have ordered a pair of 64 gb otg pendrives, which are gonna come next week. So i will check if theres an error there, and will report.
