I have a 4gig thumbdrive I tote around with a persistent version of ubuntu and some other utilities, like ultimate boot cd. Since I always have my phone, I figured why not just use it instead of carrying the thumbdrive.
I have been trying to install the boot installer on my phone's sd card so I could just boot a PC with the phone. The trouble is that if I install the thumbdrive boot files on the external micro sd card there seems to be no way to boot a pc from that drive. If you goto disk drive mode and boot the PC, it only wants to boot to the first USB device, i.e. the internal SD card. I tried the multimount usb app, but that did not help in mounting just the external SD card.
I have installed the boot files on the internal SD card and successfully booted the PC with it, but once the phone is restarted it decides there is something wrong with the internal SD card and it reformats it.
Has anyone tried to use their phone as their PC boot thumbdrive?
I have tried the YUMI and the old fashion single boot on pendrivelinux.com. It matters not whether I select persistent mode.
- First of all I admit it's my fault I wasn't paying attention..
- Second, I'm not sure if this is the right section to post this here, So pardon me..
- I was connecting my SGSII using the internal SD card as a USB mass storage.. a the same time I was connecting my Kingston USB flash drive.
- I wanted to format the Kingston flash drive and because I wasn't paying attention, and By mistake I right clicked on the SGSII internal SD card-> format->changed the file System from FAT32 to NTFS -> pressed start.
- It didn't take me long before I realized what I just did and more stupidly pressed the cancel button and unplugged the phone immediately.
- Now phone works fine but won't detect the internal SD card
- Phone used to auto-mount the SD cards automatically when connected to PC
-When connect it to the PC , It detects and mounts the external SD card and I can access it normally , But not the corrupted internal SD card appears as Drive ( J ) but when I click it, I get ( please insert a disk into removable Disk (J
- I'm unable to format or detect the internal SD card except it is shown as Drive (J) on the PC
- tried to re-mount it using CWM in recovery mode but no joy as well..
- Please skip the blaming part on how stupid I was and please advise if there is any possible way to fix this, make the Internal SD card detectable and mountable again.. then I worry about recovering the files..
try this, go to settings> more> USB utilities> click 'connect storage to pc'> click ok > connect USB cable> then click turn on. this should mount it hopefully and you will be able to reformat it to fat 32..hopefully!
Thanks for your reply, I've already tried that with no success
- However Issue is now resolved
- I tried again with CWM in the recovery mode, I tried random things such as try to re-partition the SD card..
- And when started the phone and tried to connect to the PC, got notification that SD card is corrupted and was able to format it
- Although now data is lost but now SD is detectable again..
- Now I worry on how to recover the lost data

If you can't see your sdcard on you pc when you have it in a card reader, then your reader or your sdcard is broken.
In windows you can check disk management if you see it pop up there.

What rom are you using and what kernel are you using? Have you tried re-formatting the internal sd card and external sd card? What about the other modes for mounting? Do they work?
Hello,
my SD-card is damaged, it can no longer be formatted as internal memory. How can I, if not the data, at least save the SD-card and use it again as internal memory?
I inserted the card with adapter into Windows PC and executed CHKDSK, supposedly there is RAW data on it. Windows Disk Management displays the SD-card 100% error-free, with 16MB and 28.5GB partitions. Windows can't read them either. What could I do to recover data and/or memory?
I cannot connect to the PC via USB debugging (with ADB and MTP). Is there another possibility of SD-card & or data recovery, if I had the exact error code, for example? Anything, anyone?

1st of all, I don't know, how this is related to our device! :/
Anyway, Use an sd card reader and plug it via a usb in pc and see if windows detect it...
if yes, you can format it by windows and then recover the data by any data recovery software...(100% data can never be recovered, or there might be a chance that no data is recovered)
If not then probably you won't be able to recover anything. You can try giving to a shop who recover the data, they might be able to help!

BUT windows OS can't read DATA either.
I've found that Linux on a PC can sometimes read USB memory sticks that Windows finds unreadable.
This may apply to SD cards as well, so put your SD card into a PC-accessible card reader and try reading it under Linux.
There are various versions of Linux that don't need to be installed on your hard disk, and can be booted direct from CD or USB stick.
These are referred to as "live" installations.
GParted Live CD or USB stick might be useful for you. (Search for it).
(GParted = Gnome Partition Editor. Take care with that particuler program though)
Thanks for your advice. I will probably try this in second life.
