I previously disabled 5Ghz frequency from Settings - WIFI - Advanced as previously I only had a b/g WIFI
Now I have bought Asus dual band a/b/g/n router+access point but my phone cannot see the 5Ghz network. It can see and connect to 2.4Ghz
I tried to enable 5Ghz but that option is not showing in WIFI advanced settings anymore!!
I have already reset and flashed new samsung firmware but that option is still not there..
1. Is there anyway to check if my phone is using 5Ghz?
2. Is there any secret code to enabled wireless frequency?
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Bump. I just got a brand new sgs3 (was a sgnote user), for some reason my sgs3 can't see my home 5ghz. I tried to Google and search about this issue but came up empty. My now sold sgnote and my others gadgets laptops etc. don't have any problem with this. Currently I'm on stock DLI8 and did flashed other stock Firmware and no juice. 2.4ghz working great but I need 5ghz as I live in congested 2.4 neighborhood. Hoping some kind soul could enlighten me about this issue.
WIFI cannot see 5Ghz access point [FIXED]
For those owners whose device can't see wifi 5ghz frequency, your device is not broken which I thought mine was.
The remedy is simple, set your wifi country to EU, JP, or others same as your routers bands, as samsung default was set to US ( my router E4200 is APAC region ).
Use RootExplorer and SQLite editor ( these apps from the same dev ) and go to "/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db" in "secure" table, look for "wifi_country_code=XX" change XX to JP as in my case. Reboot your wifi. Et voila ! There it is my 5GHZ SSID !! :good:

Hi, my i9300 can see the SSID of WiFi 5GHz and is able to connect to it successfully. But it cannot auto-connect to the SSID of WiFi5GHz when the WiFi is disable and then enable. or i9300 device is rebooted, or come back to the room with WiFi 5GHz. This issue doesn't happen on WiFi 2.4GHz.
Did you encounter this issue?

Great, my auto-connection problem is resolved after changing the wifi_country_code to JP, but when I reboot the device, the value of the wifi_country_code has been restored to the orginal value. How to finallized it?
Thank you very much, My phone suddenly stoped detecting all wifi routers, it couldnt detect anything, and when i changed the country to Japan, it could detect again.

Hi,
so kernel sources are released. Is there any fix for hero's wifi problems? I mean dropping connection to AP. It is so annoying, I tried to do everything: change channel, mode, encryption... Nothing helped. It is Linksys wrt160nl. The same applies to other networks (some public hot spots).
I never had this problem with my Linksys WRT54GL...

Could you paste your wifi settings? (mode, encryption mode, channel)
Using the Modaco custom ROM 2.8 (never had problems with modaco ROM and generic)
Router: Linksys WRT54GL running Tomato 1.25 firmware
Wireless Mode: Access Point
B/G Mode: Mixed
Channel: 1 - 2.412 Ghz (try a free one)
Security: WPA / WPA2 Personal
Encryption: AES
Group Key Renewal: 3600 seconds
No Mac Filter
Under Advanced Settings I changed "Transmit Power" to 251mW for a better signal, the rest are default values.
Try to update your router firmware
Are you alone with this problem?
greetz
In case you haven't done so yet. Check out the Wifi Sleep Policy (access by pressing menu when you are in wifi menu). Normally the Wifi is turned off then the screen is turned off which can cause problem.
Similar problem with netgear wnr2000

Hi got similar problem with my router netgear wnr2000.what i found funny is that when i reset the router, the phone connects perfectly to the router, but after abt 24hrs or so, it fails to connect.even if i reboot my phone, or reset the connection on phone.fails to connect.it will only connect when i reboot the router. i will try the 'aes' encryption n see if that helps.will update if it works
Thanks for your replies. Please could other members share their experiences, used options and solutions. This issue is too common to simply forget it. I am trying to find some kind of pattern or special options, it requires.
i dont have a problem with wifi apart from the wont find or connect to n-range device other wise i use wifi all the time it never drops, on stock orange uk firmware
I have a Sitecom WL-173 router.
I cannot connect at all. I can, but only with no or WEP security. That is no option for me.
When I use WPA or WPA2 my Hero does view my network, but does not connect.
I called HTC about this problem. He told me that they do not support all routers. He could not tell me which they support and which not.

I also have the same problem. The way to solve it is to change the above setting to 'G' only. Not mixed/Hybrid.
Cheers!
I have not had any problems trying to connect to WiFi networks, until i went over to my mates place where he has the Virgin 50MB B-Band and also a D-Link wifi-N router, and my Hero could no see the network at all, even though his iPhone connected straight away.

I'm sorry, it hurt even more when i was sitting there pissed off that my Hero wouldnt connect to the Wifi!!!
I have Virgin 50meg at home no problem at all, went to my GF's who has basic Virgin cable 10meg on netgear G and would not connect at all.
No idea why, as it should be all fine!
I have the same problem. It is so ****in annoying. My router is a Linksys WRT54G with Tomato firmware v1.25. Router is in "G only mode", WPA-2 PSK-AES security, I've set a static local IP for the phone, the phone's wireless is set to always ON... I basically tried everything I could think of. Ended up rooting the phone and installing Modaco 2.9... but didn't change anything. The only way I can get it work again when it drops is shut the Wi-Fi off then on...
Worst of all this is the problem seems widespread (but not universal)... What the **** does HTC think putting a ****in smartphone on the market with defective Wi-Fi... This is non-sense.
I really hope someone comes up with a fix or HTC updates this... otherwise we might want to start thinkin bout class action.

Is it a router setup or a Hero setting?
Pleaes explain if it's one of the options
probs here too ...
Linksys WAP54G v3.1
vs
HTC Hero
was working perfectly for first month or so, but has been getting worse and worse. ie, for a few weeks it would see the wifi but would usually fail to connect. now I'm lucky if it can see it at all!
have reflashed the wap with dd-wrt and experimented with a lot of settings. no diff.
have reflashed the hero with hero21 comunitry v1.6. no diff. (and also latest radio)
it just starts and stops when it feels like it.
oh, and my eeepc works fine on the same wifi, so I know it's not some wap screw up.
tried every tip I can find like 'use mixed mode' or 'g only', etc etc.
I am starting to think it's a hardware fault?
Same problem
Siemens Gigaset Tiscali modem with wpa psk2 tkip and T-mobile hero rom.
Sees the modem and connects with security first time but then says 'remembered out of range' on wifi settings but interestingly in wifi buddy it constantly has the syncing symbol next to the network.
Really annoying.
I've tried WEP and security off, wireless g only etc etc.
I have problems too but seems different to yours... but who knows : in fact i can't connect to wifi when the SSID is masked. Even if - or course - i put manuualy the ssid before with the good wep key. It happens on a livebox ( orange box )... but if i press the button to show the wifi network - it has to be made when you connect a device for the first time on this box - then it connects to the network... else it tells me that the network is out of range...
So does the wifi on hero has problem with masked SSID ? To compare i never had this problem - on the same box - with the touch diamond and the touch hd... and at home, not masking the ssid, the connection is ok without doing anything.
Ciao
Fred
I had the same problem with a Zyxel 660 router. I was able to connect to the wifi (WPA/PSK enable) but there was no data transfer possible.
So I updated the Radio ROM to the 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.08.29 version and it solved the problem.
I have a ASUS RT-N66U and I can't seem to get WiFi working on the SGS2. If I switch channel bandwidth to 20Mhz, it connects fine. If I use the settings in the screenshot, then it won't work.
Try your GS2 on a different wifi, preferably a open pulic wifi in a cafe or restaurant. If it works then the issue is not phone related and you'd need to focus on the router settings.
Sent from my digital submersible hovercraft.
It is a SGS2 problem. My Optimus G is fine with the settings in screenshot.
I have SGS II and a same router with the same setting and I have no problem.
happens to me when switching between kernels.
try this:
on router - change the name of the network
on phone - forget network and reapply
(I had problem with WPA2 and dori, so maybe try to change the authentication)
(leave the control channel to auto)
hope this help
Seems that it's not connecting to public WiFi as well.. It works, then doesn't. Guess my sister didn't use the public WiFi long enough to give it a chance to break last time.
I also have this issue on my old S2. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated as my wife seem to have a lot of issue using fat channel lately. Used to work fine earlier with my Dlink 2750u router with 20/40MHz option, not sure what has changed now. And is it just me or the S2 doesn't use fat channel even on 5GHz Band as I observe (still connects at 65Mbps instead of the usual 150Mbps on my Note 2).
Hi,
I have been using the C5 Ultra Duel E5533 for the last couple of days and run into this issue:
Although I have read that this device supports the 5Ghz WiFi Band (Sony official Whitepaper) I am not able to discover the 5Ghz WiFi network I have set at home.
This is even more bizarre , as on the first time I setup the WiFi network the 5Ghz network was visible in the network discovery list - I could even connect to this 5Ghz network. Suddenly, after connecting to another 2.4Ghz WiFi network, the 5Ghz one just disappeared and I can never see it again in my networks list ?!
Tried resetting the WiFi router but still I cannot see/discover the 5Ghz network.
I am running the original E5533 firmware as my region didn't yet receive the latest update.
It does support 5ghz. Can it detect any other 5ghz routers? Like your neighbour's? Or if u have other devices that can work on 5ghz. It could be the channels that your router is using that's causing the problem.
Did factory reset - it's OK now
I'm having trouble with keeping my Redmi Note 2 connected to home Wi-Fi. In the Wi-Fi menu, it often shows "Authentication problem". I am not experiencing this issue with any other Wi-Fi connection. Also, I have double checked to make sure the password is correct, and it definitely is not a password problem as it sometimes works.
I've even tried changing the password of my router, as well as the SSID (router wireless network name) to something else, thinking that it may have been a factor. Both methods did not help.
In addition to this, I am getting very poor reception at home for my data connection speeds. I don't think this is an issue with the phone though, as an iPhone 6S at home also has poor reception. However, I'm trying to figure out how to reset the network settings and I can't find it anywhere in the menus..
Would appreciate any assistance! Thanks.
More info.
What rom?
Which router, running which band?
Are you using n speeds, dual channels, single channel, wpa, wpa2 etc.
First thing I would try is set the router to G only (WPA_PSK). If that doesn't work, change the channel. Asus routers (the cheaper ones - e.g. NM10) can go coo coo bananas and fail to authenticate random devices, while others work just fine.
Try upgrading to the latest stable global xiaomi.eu rom. Get it here. Also, read the instructions how to flash there.

Sorry. Using SMIUI 7 by sebsch1991 (according to Settings -> About, based on 5.11.5).
I haven't fixed the problem yet.. but I realise that the Wi-Fi issue seems to "reset" itself after I restart. So whenever I notice that the Wi-Fi is no longer connecting, I just restart my Redmi Note 2 and it is able to connect again. Seems to occur in 24-hr loops?
I am using a D-Link DIR-865L. I have two bands (2.4GHz and 5.0GHz). Using the highest level of security I think? In my router settings, it shows I am using WPA/WPA2 (auto mode so it adapts to the device I believe). 802.11 mode is mixed (n, g and b).
The network settings issue I haven't found a fixed for yet, but to be honest haven't looked very far.. and I think it may be a telco issue.

When I first started trying out different ROMs, I found a few of them gave me WiFi issues with different networks. Some networks would behave normally, others wouldn't connect at all. I believe SMIUI was one of the ones that gave me trouble with at least one of the networks I use regularly, so I had to go with a different ROM.
I can't guarantee that you're having the same issue, but swapping ROMs is my best advice.
Hi fellow xda members. I recently purchased the Samsung S9 Plus SM-G965F variant and in Wifi it cannot see the 5Ghz network that i have created. It will only detect the 2.4Ghz networks. I have installed the wifi-analyzer app as well but that also doesnt see it whereas my iphone can see it and connect to the 5ghz network without any issues. Ive been googling and searching this forum but couldnt find anyone having the same problem as me. I am not that experienced in android so dont know what could be the solution. Here are a few more details that might help
Baseband version: G965FXXU2BRG8
Build Number: R16NW.G965FXXU2BRGA
never mind....problem was with the router not broadcasting ssid on a greater channel range. Fixed it. Thread can be closed

I'm also havingthe same issue.it's definitely not a problem with the router..my every device can detect 5ghz wifi while s9 plus can't. ? ..
What to plz help..
Go to your wifi router settings and change the 5Ghz channel. Set it to one that is not too crowded (use the wifi analyser app) and that all your devices can connect. In my case the channel 157 solved my problem. I live in Canada and channel regulations can be different depending on each country laws.
Solved It
