Surprised how no one cares about this phone - Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE

I bought this phone for thinking for using 2 years, but surprisingly nobody really cares about this phone. Obviously, it's not as hot or great as galaxy s3. I'm not sure if I made the right choice. Are you all thinking keeping it?

once we get S-OFF it will help signifiantly, plus in a few months when price goes down.

I care about it.....

The 4" screen was a huge selling point for me. I want a smaller phone that actually fits in my pocket. The OG Droid was a perfect size, and this one isn't much bigger. For times when I really need a larger screen, I'll use my tablet.

Agree 100%. I stuck with my Eris for quite a while because I loved that I could just drop it into my pocket & hardly feel it. I got used to the 4" screen on the Dinc2 & played with all the big ones before I got my Inc4. 3.5 to 4" is my sweet spot. I hope this isn't the last medium-to-high end device of this size. I have a phone for a reason...I also have a tablet for a reason...

I completely disagree, 4.5+ is good for some people but what about ppl who dont want to carry around a phonblet?
I think we will see a 4.3' htc phone soon

If this would have come out before the shared data plans my wife would have one now. We're both coming from the og incredible. I now have a Rezound and she has a sg3. She likes the phone mostly except for the size. She wanted this but loosing unlimited isn't going to happen

What do you wear skinny jeans?? Lol
I have the nexus 4.65 in screen and it fits fine even in my skinnies, but I can see how the smaller screen is nice, I play with my OG inc sometimes because of it

LOL, no. Shirt pocket. Sits nicely there. Wife's Rezound does not fit as well, especially with a thin case. I do like the Rezound's larger screen, but it isn't worth the weight/overall size trade-off.

to me 4 inch screen is perfect, i prefer it to the 4.3-4.7 ones out there...i have a tablet if i want to browse/game on a huge screen and to me those mid 4 sizes arent big enough to replace using a tablet
the only bigger screen id consider is a galaxy note type one 5.3+ where i can actually use it as a phone/tablet since the screen is big enough

It'd be awesome if the Dinc 4G had a 720p screen at 4 in, that would be an awesome mix of compactness and pixel density

I really dont think that is necessary at this size. Until i put the phone so close to my eyes that they start to cross i cannot see individual pixels. At normal viewing distance the screen is razor sharp

having owned the Inc1, Eris, i cant remember their dimensions, man the inc1 was a great candy bar like phone for after the Eris-where it all began for me.
anyway, the inc2 was just a perfect phone and will most likely always be on my favorite list of phones. The build quailty was superb.
Having owned the Rezound + and the Gnex, I got the gnex first (coming from and iphone4 (x-mas gift, lol) + inc2 for the Gnex.
I love it for about a week. It was fun to play with AOSP and ICS was new at the time.(before BAMD Paradigmn was even released), and then I just coulndt handle it for my everyday use and movement, it was too wide of a phone IMO, so I traded the Gnex for a Rezound, if the Gnex had the body of the Rezound but with the Gnex slimness, I would have love that phone.
So there I was in the Rezound community, making great friends and not-so-great friends.
This phone will get good attention once things start rolling.
It's unfortunate that Verizon locked us out, so I have 3 inc4gs and only one is unlocked, fV<*ing sucks. (waiting on S-OFF crew to e-mail to begin work, BTW) but that IMO 100% will be back, it just depends when
what's great though, is the Rezound was not that great of a phone until about 2 months before S-OFF came, and it took 6 months before anyone even TALKED about support S-OFF for the Rez. Once that happened it blew up, and unfortunately with their forums I would say, well, in the worst way possible.
For us though, we went into this as a community knowing that they are providing their time to possibly bring us full radio S-OFF which is what really makes the phone, and we did this within 4 hours. that is simply amazing!
Anyway sorry to get off track, I personally think once we get root back and (knock on wood) S-OFF, this phone is going to take over a new life of it's own and in a good way I very much so hope.
The Inc2 community was Gold as Rezound was a 0.
I think we are going to be a very good community that will provide quality products.
"the waiting is hard f**king takes soo long" -kyuss
but patience is a virtue.

No surprise.
Everytime I turn on the tv, I see a SG3 commercial. You were able to order it and still keep unlimited (without any extra steps). Its marketed as the top of the line phone.
On the other hand for the Inc4g, I have seen zero commercials. Even in the news, I saw a little bit about when they announced it months ago, but almost nothing when it actually came out. It came out right after the unlimited grandfathering went away. Almost all the reviews say the phone is "mediocre" mostly due to the hype eventhough the two have almost the same hardware.
In the end it comes down to marketing. If you do a great job marketing / creating hype, like with the iphone and the SG3, you'll get lots of interest. On the other hand, if you do absolutely nothing to market the phone then no one will care either because they don't know about the existance of the phone or people think it sucks. Remember the average person dosen't know anything about technology and basically depend on marketing to tell them what to buy. Even for those of us that are more tech savy, its hard to see through the hype sometimes.
I guess I'm surprised why HTC and/or Verizon would spend so much money developing a new phone and not choose to market it. Maybe the profit margin on the SG3 is alot higher.

almost the same hardware? The s3 has 2GB ram, and an amoled screen, not to mention a huge one, really the only similarity Is the CPU and CDMA/LTE

There already is one The One S on T-Mobile.
I think I'm happy with my 4.0" screen and certainly didn't want some huge 4.7 or 4.8er, but part of me wishes VZW had just let HTC put out the 4.3" One S on their network as well.

Thinking about getting the razr

Hi guys
Been awhile since I played with a mono..... Last one was the q
But you don't get much hands on in store and not enough to make a informed choice so would love some comments from you guys.... Are ya happy, no don't touch this with a forty foot poll, and wish ya bought the nexus????
Any help would be great as in most review sites yo see slates and praises in equal in equal measure but from people who don't own them.
Thanks
Ok...In my opinion, there are only a few choices in this area... For Verizon, like myself, you have the Galaxay Nexus, Apple 4S or the Razr... The HTC newest comes in a 4th here...
In overall preformace and looks, the Razr is the Winner... The processor in the Nexus is different and slightly faster.. 1.5GHZ vs 1.0GHZ... thats internal speeds of the TI chipset... (adverised Clock speeds are both 1.2Ghz) In the future this may make the Nexus keep up better in 2 years than the Razr, but at the current time, most app speed tests say these devices are equal. Also, Samsung has a slighly bigger screen and crisper colors in its display. However, the cons for the Nexus are the case and battery life.
Now, 24hrs ago, I bought the Razr. As far as being stock, the new features over my former phone, Droid Eris, kick-ass... But I miss my customizations like CM7.. Motorola/Verizon has locked the Bootloader of this phone and the current ROM mods just don't seem to compare. I have as of yet to even get this Razr Rooted, seems to be a problem (which I posted in the thread a few hrs ago..) There is no ICS version available yet for the Razr... So If you like mods, it would seem that the Nexus is the better choice. (which might be my option soon before my 14 day return policy is up..)
IF I had a different provider, the Samsung Galaxy SII would be the best out there... It is a Dual Mode/World Phone... so that feature plus ICS would definately win out...
Thanks for that.. Was trying to decide and there us nothing on the horizon that would make me want to wait that bit more so it really is the choice between the nexus and RAZR for me..
Just read some scary stories... But the two year wait doesn't worry me too much as if a phone lasts a year in my hands will be lucky as spend my day on these fecken things..... Actually talking > :~}

Great phone. Had it since launch. However, I wish I had held out a bit and waited to buy this upcoming Razr Maxx (which is what I suggest you do ). This Razr would be the best phone out there if it had a bigger battery. LTE phones really need 3000 mAh or larger batteries ... otherwise you'll just be setting it in 3g mode in order to get good battery life.
Seriously, anybody who is even considering a Razr shouldn't buy it ... buy this instead

Get the RAZR....you are in Ireland, so no need to worry about battery since over there you dont have LTE and in 3G it works just fine....
Regarding the NEXUS, it is too buggy.... radio reception problems and voice quality.... the design is also not to my liking.....
The only reason people are rating it as good as RAZR is because it has ICS...but everybody will be upgraded soon.....
So go by the word: "Software can be improved anyday, hardware cannot..."
Also I think MOto's EU Customer service is better than Samsungs'.

Agree completely, it was the only reason thought of the nexus was because it was close to vanilla as you can get, but then the razr will get it soon enough (depending on the carrier though, but that should not be much of a problem >:¬} )

I suggest you put a good screen protector on the razr, I bought mine a month ago and it got a minor scratch, not sure if its a defect or the gorilla glass is useless but Im really pissed I hate scratches on a new phone. Gonna buy me a zagg or something
gorilla glass can still be scratched. mainly sand :/ its like jamming an ice pick into a guys back, the pressure generated on a concentrated area makes it hit hard, and in our case scratched our preciousssssssss~~~
Odd.. I always thought screen protectors are part of the package when you buy a new phone.
At least that's the practice on Malaysia.. Of the screen protector is not in the package the phone shop will give you a screen protector for free, including install it for you..

I got my Razr yesterday and so far I'm very impressed with it. The phone is such a jump from an iPhone 3GS it's unbelievable. Ignore negative reviews of the screen, I really can't find a fault with it. It's vibrant, sharp, bright and black really is black. There is a slight colour cast at low brightness settings but it's not really noticable.
Design wise, it's a little bit but I've found it easy to use with one hand. Currently scoring 5729 on AnTuTu benchmark, it's fast and easy to use. The UI is lovely too

X2 vs TB to hold me over till ICS becomes the standard? More stable better Roms?

I've searched the forums but I couldn't find anything resent and I know with the speed of development any info was probably outdated anyway.
I come from a nook color/gtab/le pan rooting background where the choices are more limited and focused as far as rom selection goes. So some of these DX2 and TB Rom choices are a little over whelming.
I have an upgrade for Verizon but nothing really grabs me right now, but I still want to upgrade from my DX.
My main concern is Rom stability and speed. 3g vs 4g isn't a factor form me since this is just meant to carry me over for 6 months or so.
Your thoughts on what phone and what rom?
Dx2 rom choices are overwhelming?
Don't hear that often. Or ever....
Dx2 is a bad bet. Its a good phone, but with a locked bootloader and Tegra 2 it gets very little dev love.
Go get yourself a nice galaxy nexus. That's my advice.

I don't want a nexus, hence the original question posted.
If it is just holding you over for 6 months it would be a good investment since you don't care about lte. They'll have quad-cores out by that time. Although i am on cm7, the eclipse rom I think is pretty damn stable.

The DX2?
I'm used to CM7 from my nook. I like it, I know the CM7 for the DX2 is still in beta though.
Funny you ask, my wife has a TB and I an x2. If 4g is not an issue, I would say X2 hands down. ONLY, if you plan on installing cm7. My phone is blazing fast compared to hers. And smaller and lighter. The gpu on the x2 is light years ahead of the crummy one on the TB. Has less weird issues, and battery life is quite a bit better, even with cm7.
But, honestly, what don't you like about the nexus? I would highly suggest going that route if its an option.

I HATE the soft buttons. I know its the future of ICS but its just a waste of 1/4 inch of screen real esate. and I might as well wait till there are some second gen ICS phones anyways.

I don't get that argument. The Nex has a 4.65 inch screen without having a bigger footprint than ours. So even if those buttons NEVER went away (and they do when screen size matters--watching video), it'd still be more screen on a same-size phone.
Also, why waste an upgrade on a 6 month stopgap device? What are you gonna do in 6 months when a phone you do like becomes available--pay the unsubsidized $600 for it?
The last thing I'd do is renew my contract/use my two year upgrade on a DX2 (especially knowing what we know now). Moto's already abandoned the thing, if it weren't for DKZ et al. so would most of us.
Phone flaws I'll never overlook again:
- Locked bootloader
- Pentile display
- Lack of NEON support
Agreed. I second the comment that dude, the soft buttons go away when the full screen is Needed. Such as updated games and when watching videos. Speaking of which, tonight I just picked up a galaxy nexus on eBay. Saw a great price and had to jump on it. X2 has been fun. And honestly, for the folks that did stick on xda for the x2, I'd say, good crowd!!
Back to ur question, I'd say, if ur looking at signing a contract, don't do it on the x2. If u really like the phone, pick one up on ebay. Later in the year look for the Samsung Galaxy S3. Sign a contract on that.

why does everyone talk **** about pentile screens? This is the ONLY phone I've EVER had that I can actually see the damn screen in bright florida sun and it has almost the same resolution as my netbook that I don't carry anymore because this phone straight up replaced it.
waaaaaaah my pixels arent square... waaaaaaaaaaah...
here's 2 cool features of this phone, real buttons that don't waste space on the digitizer and no forward facing camera. I don't want my phone looking at me.
the ONLY thing I dislike about this phone is the locked bootloader, and it hasn't been THAT much of a problem.
one thing I do know, it gets recpetion where almost all the others don't, and I travel for a living, so that is EXTREMELY important. the only issue I had with mine was the stock SD card was crappy, my phone would freeze and do stupid things until I replaced it... It even go run over by a lifted K5 Blazer (the big one, not the little s10 based one) in the colorado rockies with no screen protector or case or anything and all I have is a tiny scratch on the display and a scratch on the side all the way down to the metal...
yeah, METAL... this phone is made of METAL not wussy-assed taiwanese plastic.

It even go run over by a lifted K5 Blazer (the big one, not the little s10 based one) in the colorado rockies with no screen protector or case or anything and all I have is a tiny scratch on the display and a scratch on the side all the way down to the metal...
yeah, METAL... this phone is made of METAL not wussy-assed taiwanese plastic.

here's 2 cool features of this phone, real buttons that don't waste space on the digitizer and no forward facing camera. I don't want my phone looking at me.

I must say this is one rock solid phone! One thing Moto did NOT cheap out on was build quality. I have not handled a phone that is more sturdy and sleek (sleek enough for me) than this one. And it has some weight to it, which is not overwhelming but reassuring. I held my friend's SGSII and it was feather light and "felt" cheap...
yeah the rockies story made me look down at my dx2 in a case with a screen protector on it and feel kinda lame. lol.
If you like the screen then I am happy for you and I will agree that it is very bright. But there are plenty of well done tests that show the clear pitfalls of non-amoled pentile screens. I think the x2 is a good phone, but personally the poor colors, awful dark imagine viewing, and the ghosting are more then enough to get me to think twice about pentile. If I'm not mistaken, tomshardware might have called it devil
And buttons are a matter of choice, but after going from the d1 to the fascinate, to the TB, to the x2, I can safely say hardware buttons are not for me.
All in all if you pick up a x2 for $160 on ebay I think you will be happy if you put cm7 on it. But know it has some issues, as do most phones.

I misunderstood your OP. It's a fair phone for $150 unlocked (now that we have 2nd init. roms) if you're not OCD about display issues. Mild screen ghosting is nails-on-a-chalkboard to me, and the DX2 screen ghosts like no other.
Anyway, the DX vs. DX2 seems to be a wash. The DX2 has an extra core (and is a better dyno queen when it comes to benchmarks...like all Tegra 2 devices), but the DX is honestly just as zippy in 90% of tasks. The DX2 has a qHD screen, but the DX display looks better anyway (no ghosting).
If I were you, I'd install CM74DX-GB as seen in this thread:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/10191-updated-info-on-revnumbers-cm4dx-gb1-batt-and-fm-radio-added/
on the X, and rock it for another four months until the SGSIII comes out.
2 cents.

so...who is (still) planning to get one?

despite many folks being down on the specs of the phone (really did you think a 4.0 inch screen device would have hd resolution? ) i still like it a lot
just trying to gauge how many plan to pick it up, so i can get some idea about the potential size (i know it wont be big) of the root community
money is tight on (as my wife calls it) "luxury" purchases...and i have to buy a new computer soon too as mine is fried...so want to know if its worth using what donations i do have to get (or at least cover some of the cost) it or not
anyone?
verizon tells me i'm eligible for an early upgrade and i'm going to hold onto my org dinc until i see the price drop on the 4g lte, as i'm sure they'll try to butt**** you with price.
this is the only phone i'm considering because i've held a gnex and razr, to efing big for my taste and i don't want to fell like i'm carrying a brick around in my pocket.
and the removable battery and expandable memory are a big plus too.
4G arrives here this summer, along with my last "new every two year" upgrade option. I have enjoyed My Incredible and will take a hard look at it's big brother.
I am not excited. This phone misses big time. The original droid incredible was the king of the Hill when it came out, but this budget phone is a joke to the line. Underpowered CPU without the image sensor chip and the lack of HD display combined with HTC's heavy insistence that this phone is not from the One line makes me sorely disappointed.
I wish everyone who buy this phone the best, but I will be holding on to my original incredible until Verizon actually gets a One series phone.

I'm in. I've tried the rezound and the nexus. Didn't like either one of them for different reasons. I kept wanting to come back to my Inc 2. I look at it this way. Its like my Inc 2 but with 4g and some other nice upgrades. I personally don't need the fastest, biggest, highest Res, etc. Functionally and battery life are my most important things. But to each there own...

I'm looking real close at this phone. I really like Sense and the size is right for carrying around at work. I'll wait until I can actually have one in my hands before I pull the trigger though.
I'll be getting this phone. Droid-life reports that it'll be priced at 149$, which sounds like a likely price for it. I'm hoping it get's decent developer support.

Maybe i'll hold off and dev for this phone. We will see.
I'll try to pick one up if I get the chance. S4 chip, LTE, resolution bump all make for a nice upgrade over my Incredible 2
This will be my next phone. Loved the Inc2, it was my favorite phone of all time, but I can't do without 4G. Tried going back to the Inc2 for a week, but I've become accustomed to the LTE speeds here in Vegas, and so I switched back to my Rezound. I think that 4" is the sweet spot for screen size, and don't see the need for a HD screen at that size. 1.2ghz S4 should be plenty fast, and great on battery life. Camera doesn't matter to me, I haven't been let down by my Rezound when I need to snap something quickly. If the battery life is anything like what the AT&T OneX is showing with it's S4/LTE combo, I'm all in. I'll be buying it off-contract.

I am seriously considering this phone. I was going to wait and see which devs were going to pick it up. If you two are getting one, then I am definately getting one.
My only worry is that the phone is not a world phone. I travel outside of the US frequently and the INC 2 has been wonderful. But, I have been renting the MiFi devices from xComGlobal for international travel recently, so the world phone capabilities are not as important.

yeah, i dont know about the world phone stuff...i know the rezound has been gotten to work on gsm networks (lte is gsm based afaik) as have some moto phones...but its not as simple as just changing modes (pretty involved i think)
This phone might be my only option on Verizon in the near future. I for one, do not like the ridiculously large screens. 4 inches is great, larger...not so much. The trend right now seems to be 4.5' or more. No matter how thin that is, it's still too big.

I'm still on the original Incredible, after owning it since launch day over two years ago I'm looking for something to upgrade too. Galaxy Nexus is huge, the Rezound has an S3 with Sense 3.6, and I want something with ICS out the door. And the S4 is looking really great for power and battery efficiency. I love the size of my Inc, and this looks perfect. If you dev for this phone, I will definitely be getting this, as a user of your work on the Incredible. Warm TwoPointTwo was an amazing rom back in the day.
In short, I just want a 2012 HTC phone. With 2012 specs, not last years models that are 6 months old by now.

Phone envy? Not yet.

The two phones I would be envious of right now is the HTC One X and Galaxy S3.
I recently held the One X demo/fake unit in my hand and it was nice. I liked how thin the bezel was all around. It was almost all screen. But it doesn't have a removable battery and I doubt with my heavy usage habits it would last me all day.
With the Galaxy S3, it has a 2100mAh battery which is impressive, but a comparison showed that it is similar in size to the Galaxy Nexus, which was too wide for my hands.
The Rezound still has a very nice screen, and a fast dual core that will still be fast enough for a while. Now that I have the extended battery, my phone easily lasts all day even with my heavy use.
So I'm not itching to get a new phone yet. I wonder what the next wave of phones will be like. Then I'll have phone envy.

Im sure by the end of summer most of us will be drooling over some aspect of the new wave of phones.
I agree. The new phones are nice, but the rezound is still better. People think it is an old phone. It may have been out for a while, but it still has specs that beat 99% of the other phones on the market.

Not me. If I were buying a phone today (and it were available on Verizon), I'd take the One X over the Rezound... but, thats only because it IS a better phone... To say that I'm envious of it though would be a lie, because the fact is that I am still extremely happy with the Rezound and feel that it hasn't even the chance to show us its full potential yet.
Not envious of any. One X is cool but lack of removable battery blows me. I burn down two extended batteries in one day sometimes.

Man, I never knew how nice it is to have an extended battery. Just not having to worry about battery life is a HUGE plus. Even having a thicker phone is worth it. It makes the Rezound look awkward, but it actually feels good to hold.
Between the One X and S3, I think the One X looks better. But if I were to choose one to buy, I would get the S3 just for the bigger battery. Also, the S3 would probably be more root and S-Off friendly.
From the various article I've read, Verizon will not get the One X, but the S3 seems probable.
P.S. How do you go through 2 extended batteries in a day? I thought I was a heavy user with all my game playing and web surfing. I can still make it through the day with just one extended battery.
The only thing Im jealous about that the galaxy has is aosp. As it is getting harder to get aosp working on HTC phones I may consider Samsung for next phone. I love htc I just home the rezound will get it someday

Tbh I'm up at 6 am, phone off the charger and I'm listening to morning Jams. That's like 40 minutes streaming, then I drive to the subway then get on the train for 30,that's more of me streaming music, surfing the Internet, texting, on uno online. Then I get to work and literally use my phone from 9am to 530. Streaming, playing, netflix and texting. And I have my screen on auto or max. Then I'm back on the bus doing the reverse. Get home, back to streaming and more. But sometimes I work overtime.

My trip to the VZW store

So my dad is considering switching over to vzw and getting a gs3, which is a huge upgrade from his old evo. He wanted to go see it and so did I so I tagged along. When we got there we started to look at it and I have to say both of us were impressed by it.
Now the first thing I noticed. While some rep was blabbing about the phone with my dad I was trying to get into the bootloader. Since I have never had a Samsung phone I had no clue and searching yielded no results fast. So I powered it off and pressed a bunch of buttons and to my surprise instead of a bootloader I saw the Samsung logo and underneath it was a little unlocked lock that read custom below it. I assumed it meant it was unlocked and I was way to shocked to take a picture.
Just a little surprise. Now on to the next thing.
I checked out the nexus and I was loving it until I brought up a white page and could see the home screen burned in an ugly yellow over the page. yuck. I honestly tried to give it a chance but that's disguisting.
Now the real gross part.
I moved even further down passed other stuff until I came to the so called "rezound killer" the DROID incredible 4G lte. It seriously made me cringe a little inside. The screen is so small and not as wide as the rezounds. Another thing: its not even that thin. It's definitely thicker than an iphone though. I couldn't test the weight because of the security thing which was huge on this device. Definitely a smaller downgraded rezound.
And that is my little trip to the Verizon store.
FYI the droid inc4g isnt a "rezound killer" its not supposed to be. the inc4g is target more as a mid tier device not a high end like the rezound is. all versions of this inc has always been targeted as a mid tier device. hence the smaller screen smaller form factor.
its not suppose to be better than the rezound..if your looking for a follow up to the rezound supposedly a new htc phone for vzw just got benchmarked and it follows the model number of the rezound.
what he said.
the inc 4g is actually a great phone, i've sold 3 within the past 24 hours already, and the people i sold them to LOVE it.
....plus, we make god damn BANK on the Inc 4g so i can guarantee reps are going to be pushing people into this phone like crazy. it's so cheap for stores to buy, and selling at 199 is a great price point. it's an awesome little phone, and if i could, i'd totally get one to run side by side with my Rez

Gotta correct one thing - when the Og Inc lauched, it was a top spec phone, beaten only by its close brother the Evo in terms of screen size (but not resolution). The Inc was top tier, till VZ shoved their heads up their bums, and released crappy iterations there after.
Given the styling, i think the Rezound should have been the Inc 4G.. ah well, a rose by any other name...

The nexus screen sucks, just as you experienced. Pretty much all the hardware on that phone was outdated at launch. I still don't understand it. I know for sure our screen, camera, and radios are better. Now the GS3, I would buy that in a heartbeat if I had an upgrade and could keep my plan.
I think I'll stick it out until the next nexus drops, though. If cm9 ever gets sorted out for us, the wait will be easy.

why do you consider the dinc2 crap? I have 2 for the kids and the damn things just work. No custom anything and both after over a year are just as snappy as day 1.
Consider when they came out, lte wasn't mainstream, neither were dual core processors. Got a great little 4inch screen as well. Some people need to realize that not everyone wants a 1080p 5 inch screen on their smartphone... (I do of course, but we are the vocal minority)
