I am very familiar with the inner workings of CWM on regular phones, but these devices seem a bit different. Will formatting System brick the device by removing CWM from the partiton, or is it the same as a phone where CWM is in the kernel partition in boot? I ask because I have not seen any developers ask to format the system (along with factory reset/data/cache/dalvik) when going from GB to ICS, which on a phone IS the correct way to change operating systems.
Quick answer would be great as I am in flashing mode tonight!
Thanks

It will not remove CWM. Don't forget, CWM is normally either on a separate partition (recovery) or for samsung devices, in the kernel directly, so It will not brick your device, it will just get to either to a infinite bootloop, stuck at samsung logo or reboot to recovery. In the case you should backup using nandroid before use.
That's what I figured, just wanted to be sure. Things are just different on these g-players. I like to use the system format option to get a true "clean" install.
Thanks for the quick response

Most ROMs format the system while they are installing so you don't always need to do it manually

Hi,
I may be wrong but my understanding is that unless specifically done by a carrier, Samsung devices come with an unlocked bootloader.
This means that if you don't have full disk encryption, anyone with access to a device can simply flash CWM/TWRP and access all your data.
How can this be considered a good security practice? Nexus devices (and possibly Sony) wipe /data on bootloader unlock (it's a quick wipe so easily recoverable by a power user but still).
In my few years around here I noticed that even most advanced of users rarely encrypt data, I think less than 1% of power users use encryption.
Has your data simply lost any value? Or is it simply ignorance?
I've dropped my phone today while it was running. I was only using a mobile browser.
Are there any precautionary steps, diagnostics, or procedures to repair my operating system?
Does it make a difference in how my android ROM operates in the future?
Should it only cause issues if I was installing software, or writing to the internal or external SD?

Shouldn't be an issue. However, as you mentioned, don't remove the battery while updating.
Hi folks.
I've just acquired a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, and I have officially unlocked the bootloader, and installed Redwolf Recovery, Magisk, and the Pixel Experience Oreo ROM, and the phone was working for a few days without issues.
Today however, whenever I boot into my phone, force close errors pop up at three errors per second, and when I try to perform a factory reset and reinstall a ROM, the current, yet corrupt installation remains, and I cannot get rid of it.
Is there any way to solve this issue, as this is the first time I have experienced this?
Thanks.

Hi, you need to do advanced wipe in recovery and wipe /system, /data, /cache, /dalvik, /ART before installing a new ROM.
Should your preferred ROM still produce this issue, please try for a quick test https://download.lineageos.org/kenzo
You don't need Magisk to root LOS.

Thank you very much for that. I actually did that before you suggested this to me, and I'm back up and running now.
However, one thing I have learned is that you shouldn't add any files to internal storage AFTER doing a full, destructive wipe and AFTER installing anything from there, as those files will disappear while the storage gets occupied in the process, so I ended up having to repeat the process, but with the required files ON THE microSD CARD.
Another thing I have learned from this is to not install a custom ROM on encrypted storage and double-check the encryption status BEFORE flashing a ROM as I now know that some stock ROMs automatically encrypt the /data/ and /data/media/ partitions, which is a huge pain in the backside.
Lesson of the day: even if you think you're familiar with custom ROMs and installing them, there are times whereby you'll end up hitting brick wall dilemmas like this one.

U only need to do format data option if u come from miui rom. Coz miui encrypts the data and internal sd. So format data option is must.
Moving from one custom rom to another u dont need format data. Only wipe data reset is enough.
If u have any important document . keep it in external sd. If something goes wrong or custom rom cant boot then we use format data option which erases ur internal sd too.
No need to encrypt the device. Just install the rom which comes with selinux enforcing which is enough to protect ur userspace.

Muchos gracias.
Also, I have a microSD card for that very reason, which is to keep all my files that I want to keep separate and safe from destructive deletion, and I have now learned that stock ROMs like the MIUI ROM encrypt the data and internal shared storage partitions, and that I have to do a full, destructive, internal storage wipe whenever I migrate to a custom ROM FROM a stock ROM.
Also, I frankly don't give a two sh!ts about storage encryption and SElinux policies as they're far too inconvenient for the trade-off in terms of technological security versus technological freedom, so I installed The SELinux Switch app from here, and I intend to leave the device decrypted for the aforementioned reasons.

Exactly. When we unlock bootloaders and root our devices we choose freedom and the remaining constrictions like SElinux and encryption are, in this context, completely useless shackles. Furthermore, encryption contributes to NAND flash wear and premature device failure.

Not only that - SELinux, when set to Enforcing, restricts certain simple commands and shoves them unnecessarily behind root privileges, like "reboot bootloader", or "reboot -p", or "reboot fastboot", or "reboot recovery", or "reboot". I'm not going to wait 60 seconds for a device to reboot into recovery - screw that.
Hell, even having SELinux set to Enforcing can interfere with or block infrared beam access. Stupid crap I tell ya.
Can someone recover my all data immediately through any method??
I have Samsung Note 9 Model N960F 500 GB Android 9 Dr Ketan Rom Version 15 PIE, everything was fine suddenly someone noticed my EDxposed was old and told me to update it because i can't create Snapchat account
then i downloaded the new apk version and flashed 2 files with Magisk one is Riru i guess i don't remember and the second one under Alpha menu contains YAfa something, and then i restarted the phone and it was stick on Samsung logo
like always if i have any issue i flash Dr ketan rom again over the old one and issues gone but this time No, I'm stick with Samsung logo
I tried to go back to Dr ketan rom PIE from version 15 to 13 and 11 and to Stock ROM android Oreo 7 and to Dr ketan android 10 ROM_Q02 but i face always one of these issues
1- stick on Samsung logo or 2- boot loop or 3- Message says "Verification Failed unable to restart your device. The integrity verification has failed, you need to reset your device to factory default settings, This will erase all your data. But i skipped this because i don't want to lose my data!
i tried to flash the stock rom with Ap file only then the phone starts as new but i didn't see my data and i saw the total storage of my phone is 32 GB and this is wrong. My total storage and my phone is 500 GB
From twrp i tried to open the internal storage and always it's empty now and before. it says 0 size even before this issue was 0 Size.
i tried from twrp to do wipe factory reset without internal storage but issue still the same.
i tried to wipe system, data, Cache, Davlik and also the same issue
i flashed some files also such as Magisk unistaller, ed exposed unistaller and magisk unimod but no luck
After each operation if i flash dr ketan rom now and finish i see in the twrp logs "Failed to mount Data"
Now if i flash Dr ketan roms it's boot loop or stick on Samsung logo
if i flash Stock rom Android pie with all 4 parts with HOME CSC i see my total phone storage 32GB and not 500GB and the phone starts but no data
I noticed before if i update my magisk from 17 for example to 19 or higher and it was not supported by Dr ketan Rom, the phone stick on Samsung logo and if i flash the same magisk again the phone starts OK without issue
I didn't use the CSC file till now to avoid deleting my data
i tried some android recovery software such as dr.fone and FonePaw for Android and FoneLab for Android but they all don't have Galaxy note 9, the maximum they have old versions Galaxy note 4 or Samsung s7 and also they require root to read the files if the phone is working, and i tried others but without luck!
******FINAL UPDATES!
i changed files system to Ext2 and formatted data through twrp and changed them again to Ext4 and
formatted my phone several times but without luck no files !!
*****I think my data now are overwritten and now i'm looking for overwritten data recovery experts or strong overwritten data recovery software.
What is important for me my data and I'm sure some experts or programmers or genius people such as Dr Ketan or others can recover my data
I have more than 200 GB Data and i want them very important!!!!! , can someone please help me recover all my data and guide me step by step because i need my phone immediately.
I hope Dr ketan you and the experts can recover my data
If there are software able to recover my data cost $1,000,000 USD - $2,000,000 USD (1 MILLION USD - 2 MILLION USD) i'll buy them but i want my data back and i don't know any software.
Thanks for you @dr.ketan for your quick support and for any one can recover my data!
He is trolling you I think. But if you have that kind of cash laying around take it to a shop, they will be able to help you. They could remove the inbuilt memory device and mount it on some computer and extract the data.

We don't have this shop and if you are expert in this field pm me directly.
I'm looking for experts and software similar to what you said.
Thanks
While I do belive you that you have the described issues, please clean up the OP. It is really hard to follow your thoughts.
I see little hope for you to recovery the data using some kind of data recovery software, as your phone doesn't boot and you wiped it multiple times.
Due to that, you will most likely have to do what vishnu vijay said. If there is no data recovery shop near you, you will have to send it to one. Sadly, it won't be cheap and there is no guarantee they will be successful.
Remember, the more you alter your phone's memory, the lower the chance of recovering your data.
