noob problem:
1.i rooted my device and ive done flashing custom kernel, but the main reason i rooted is to unlock my phone so i can use different carriers.
i have installed voodoo sim unlock for s3 but it didn't work on my device but then when i dial the confirmation number it says that network lock
is off but still i cant use other carrier.is there any other way to unlock my s3?(its a big help for me,really)
2.does changing rom or kernel by custom rom/firmware will affect the usage of my device if i use it to other countries lets say in asia?
3.please tell me the step by step thing to do if i want to put back my stock kernel if some problem occur on my custom one.i have seen the answer for this but im too noob to really understand it but maybe someone can educate me more clearly.......please... :crying:
4.if im going to change my custom kernel with a different custom kernel,do i need to erase or install something or i just flash the new custom that i want to?
5.can someone give me a link to a site where i can talk about whats the best custom rom and kernel? or maybe someone can answer whats the best?
im sorry for being lazy looking for the answer to my question on the forum, actually ive read some of them but its really different if im the one who's asking question, you know what i mean,i hope you guys understand and consider me as a part of the forum.looking forward to your answers.. thanks

There is a fix now sim lock
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29484863
(sent through internet)

still sim locked,i did flash the sim fix on my device through cwm recovery but still when rebooted it says network lock..do i forgot something?
i have voodoo sim unlock installed already and it says network lock : inactive and flash the sim fix but nothing happened after rebooted..please help..

Galaxy ACE GT-S5830 Help With Removal of Branded Firmware

Hi peeps
I have bought a thr33 Galaxy ace. Ive used an unlock code so i can use any sim but im wanting to update and remove the stock branding if its possible. Ive spoke to another guy who said to use titanium. So ive rooted the phone and used titanium to remove all s/ware i can see as apps on the phone but i still have the thr33 logo on start up which i want rid of and id like to install a newer f/ware. After rooting ive tried to update thru Kies with official f/ware but the phone loses its usb connection when trying to update.
Phone details as it stands :
f/ware : 2.2.1
Baseband : S5830NEKA3
Kernel : 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected]#1
Build : FROYO.XWKAB
Its is rooted.
Ive got some iphone JB experience and i can follow instruction no problem so if anyone can just point me in the right direction as to solve my problem id be very grateful.
Thanx in advance
avoid kies. it would do u more harm than good. use odin to upgrade to gingerbread.
heres a good tutoral with screenshot
u can use other firmware, not just kph like stated in that tutorial. but i u really wanna follow that tutorial make sure its odin complete package, not onepackage. and i suggest using blackhawk rom
btw on 6th step on that tutorial, u'll probably just see "downloading" yellow text on screen, not "an android robot digging with a shovel"
and on the blackhawk rom thread, ketut already pointed howto install his rom, but without screenshot.
Thanx so much for your help before I use them I just want to check that I wont have any problems with my phone being thr33 branded ? If theres a chance of bricking because of the branding what should I do before hand ?
Used the Tutorial. the blackhawk rom download didnt work. Im pleased to say that i followed the tut to the word and its worked for me no problems. My phone was rooted but i didnt change anything b4 this update. My phone was branded and it is now NOT BRANDED after using this tutorial. I had to change the language from russian to english. Search youtube "how to change language on galaxy S". I also had to update my carrier settings. im with giffgaff and theres an app on the android market for apn update. i used wifi to download and update. My phone is now up and running, ive just goto to repload all my apps. Thank You
Just a question, you bought your unlock code?

Noob problem after root

Hi guys
Sorry but i am a noob to all this so have proberly stupid questions.
After flashing to a customer rom i went back to a stock t-mobile rom. Problem i now face is when i try to download apps from other companies that are not on the app store eg mfortune they are unable to detect the type of phone i am using so i get "sorry we do not currently support your device" despite being able to do so before rooting and flashing. Is there a way i can change this with the release of skyGo on android this month i want to be able to download it. As it will be only on the galaxy s2 and HTC phones for some time i dont really want to wait.
Any help please???
Did you do a full whipe? Adding some details like model number, the rom you flashed and the one you came from may get you some more useful results.
As for the skyGo app, it won't take more than a day for it to pop up as an APK somewhere on the net.
Hello
Thanks for the reply i am currently in work so i cant look at my phone but will update on which firmware and kernal version i am running
I did however follow this guide to root reviews.cnet.co.uk/mobile-phones/how-to-root-your-samsung-galaxy-s2-50004972/[/url]
Not sure if that helps i did not however use the guide to flash the secure kernal maybe thats where i have gone wrong.
I will update the thread with the info later.
Thanks again

post an Odin screenshot if it doesn't go through
Hi guys!, first of all thank you for your support, here are the updates, i try flashing it via odin and a error was show and it was imposible to flash it that way, because i was desperate and impatient for having it back, i talk to a "expert" friend of mine, he told me that the problem was that the bootloader was locked by verizon, thats why i cant flash it, so he rooted the phone, and download e-z unlocker app or something like that, he install the app and then proceed to unlock the bootloader, everything went well, the turn off the phone for putting it on download mode but the phone wont turn on, it doesnt even charge it was dead, hard bricked :crying: ,so i reallyze that all my impatience went wrong and now i have a 900 dlls brick (im from mexico thats whhy is so expensive, a couple months ago) and well the only brigth side is that im going to try guarantee and say that the phone just experience a sudden death case and hopefully the belive me i´ll keep you guys updated! thanks for the support!
first of all, I asked for an Odin screenshot.
second of all, how can the bootloader be locked by Verizon if it's not a Verizon phone? i9300 is an international unlocked phone. If you messed with the bootloader, then I don't think there's anything you can do

[Q] sk17i - help

hi guys, I know help has been asked plenty of times for this and other phones. also I read dozaens of guides, but this instead of helping me, made me very confused :crying:
here is my problem: my girlfriend's sk17i has a terrible signal connection, so I would like to try different basebands on it (could that fix the problem or at least improve the situation?)
my problem is that I didn't understand clearly what I need to do on the phone to change basebands.. root? unloack bootloader? install cwm? install custom roms or stock ics will be ok?
ps. I am not new in root, see my signature I own a rooted defy+ and installed dozens of custom roms on it, so I would just like to know from you which preliminary steps I have to do and are strictly necessary to change basebands, once I know that I will try to do that by myself following the many guides I found..!
pps. I would like to do as less things as possible, just because it is not my phone and if I brick it a can get killed  if it was mine no problem I did everything possible on mine
thanks in advance for all the help you can provide
bye!

To change baseband, you only need Flashtool, proper FTF file (every firmware includes different baseband) and phone with USB cable.
No root, no need to unlock bootloader, no CWM, any ROM will do.
Which baseband(BB) are you currently using? Also, which ROM?

thanks for the reply!
good to hear.. seems I can try different BB's pretty easily so
she's on stock ICS 4.0.4..
BB: 8x55a-aaabqoazm-203028g-77
FW: 4.1.B.0.587
if it was mine, I would have already rooted, unlocked it and tried FXP cm10.. I can't stand all those sh*tty apps included in stock roms.. but as I wrote it is not mine and if I brick it that would be a big problem..
(even if actually she is using it as it was a old phone as data connection is almost un-usable.. 3g status is always almost 0, and 2g can not be used because of operator problems.. : ( ) so she can only use it with WI-FI in the office and then no data connection anymore..
that's bad, I bought her that phone and if I knew before data connection signal was so bad I would have never bought it
you think I can improve the situation trying different BB? tx again!
I doubt it will help. I do not think changing baseband will make it any better.
Try the same SIM card in another phone(s). Does the issue still occur in other phone(s)? If yes, the issue is with either the SIM or the operator.
Then try another SIM card in the Mini Pro. Does the issue still occur with another SIM card in Mini Pro? If yes, then the issue lies in your phone.
I have already made tests, troubleshooting etc (I work in a service department  ) and I am sure the problem is on the phone that's why I would like to try a different BB as last hope.. if that won't work then I will trow it away and buy something else.. :crying:
bull****

[Q] Need help with flashing the right rom on my device

Good day everyone
I have decided to root my S3 and flash a custom rom of android 4.4.2 on it. Now, i've flashed roms before but what i dont remember and need help with is the difference between the roms and which one is the right one for my device and the carrier i'm with.
I got my S3 from Vodafone Australia. If i remember correctly flashing a rom designed for different radio kernels (i think thats what it was) will brick the phone. is this right? if so could someone please tell me how to find the right rom?
I tried to search and find my answer in forums but couldn't find anything, so any help would be highly appreciated!

you can brick your device only when you flash a rom which is not made for your device...
first confirm that your device is gt i9300
then you can try out any rom from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development
just find the rom that suit you and read the instructions before installing anything..
for ex for 4.4.2 roms you have to update your recovery to the latest cwm or twrp..
When you flash do not allow the rom to update the radio, otherwise you will lose network connection. Search and read in general forum for Australian S3 discussion.
