Hello
i have rooted my Galaxy s3 with ODIN and with CF Root 6.4
The phone did reboot and shows SU and CWM
But if i go to Recovery mode in order to install a zip, there is no option to install a zip.
There is only Android System recovery and no CWM recovery.
What is wrong?

Do you have a International S3? Is usb debugging enabled on your phone? Clear cache and dalvik cache, reboot and try again.Uninstall current cwmmanager.apk in system/apps and reinstall cwm manager in system/ apps from here https://www.dropbox.com/s/4vfk5tmd7orgofx/CWMManager.apk.zip with root explorer. Reboot and try again, don`t forget to fix permissions in recovery.

Go to the superuser app and choose unroot in settings. Than reflash CF Root with Odin, that might fix it.

Well, here is a solution!
As you have said, you've flashed the kernel, have you downloaded ROM Manager, from Kousch?
If not. You may want to do that, and flash CWM via the app
For some reason, like with the Galaxy Necus, the kernels for our devices dojn't contain the recovery image. You have to flash seperatly (Mobile Odin or ROM Manager)
Good luck!

I think you are misstaking, on the nexus you have to push a recovery.img to the phone in fastboot mode, on samsung devices that is not needed. Flashing cf root installs superSU, busybox and cwm recovery.

I know. I had the GNexus I also have had a GSII, and an Omnia 7. I know which kernel does what. All I was saying, is that in all the kernels I've ever flashed, there never was an implemented recovery.img... (And I've flashed Siayh, CF Root and the N.E.A.K kernels...)
But never mind. Your way worked out just fine, according to the op. So I guess everything is sorted

I used CFRoot and Odin to root my Galaxy S3 i9300. It seemed to go OK but when I open SuperSU it says "There is no SU binary installed and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!" I have tried to install SuperUser but that also says the SU binary isn't installed.
What has gone wrong? Do I need to run the Odin process again?
Thanks.

Ah, right. Odd, 'cause if the SuperSU application was installed from the SuperSU ZIP then it means it should've installed the su binary too. (Sometimes flashing CF-Root doesn't trigger SuperSU install and you have to manually reboot into recovery mode.)
You could try reflashing CF-Root or just use CWM recovery (which should be there since you used CF-Root) to reinstall the SuperSU ZIP (CWM-SuperSU-v0.96.zip).

I just retried the root with Odin, same result. I do have ClockworkMod Recovery so I will try to flash it with that.
I flashed the zip with CWM and it flashed fine, and fixed the problem! I have now installed and used successfully TriangleAway.

If you haven't got an SU-binary, you can't install SuperSU or SuperUser, no su - no root. Download Siyah Kernel (S3 - http://gokhanmoral.com) download latest kernel for your firmware (ICS or JB) and lash via Odin..
Then you (should) have root and SuperSU should be pre-installled

You can always try to flash Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip (Google it!). I found out that SuperSu doesn't work with all devices. Sorry for not attaching the link, but I am a new noob here, Can't post them correctly yet.
Tried this
Hi everyone... I just tried rooting my galaxy s3 and this mesage came up... but i used the simple rooting way on mac. Using terminal... So I don't know what the whole CWM and all that is.. I just want to know why the hell this isn't working for me ="(
I found solution by copying /system/bin/.ext directory from flashable zip version into phone.
1. download flashable zip version of SuperSU.
2. extract zip.
3. using adb shell create directory .ext inside /system/bin/
4. push .su file inside /system/bin/.ext from flashable zip
5. chmod 6755 the .su file
6. run SuperSU and you can update su binary
7 reboot
i have used framaroot to root my note 2, and i have the same problem, what should i do, (ididn't know alot about adb)
Try reflashing rom or firmware

Downloaded the new Clockworkmod Recovery from ROM Manager only to find that I could not back up to the external SD Card. So I tried reverting back to an older version (v5.8.4.0) and try backing up again to the SD card.
My phone booted into what appears to be a broken version of CWM where none of the volume and power buttons work correctly. Pressing the volume down only makes the screen scroll down. I can't select anything at all. I can boot into download mode but Odin doesn't recognise my phone. Should I download Samsung drivers and try to flash a stock ROM?
This is really stressing me out as I'm afraid I might have screwed my phone up! Any help is greatly welcome.

Yeah I have.
Then I suggest rooting with auto root and flashing philz recovery after and if it still won't see the card then you might need to format it.....and personally I always do that in the phone.
Hopefully a clean install, with fresh root and recovery will get it going again, fingers crossed

If the cf root procedure was successful I wouldn't worry about installing a diff recovery just yet, lets get the phone booting 1st. Download a custom rom and get it moved onto your external sd card, Boot into recovery(from power off, press volume up, home button and power), make sure its custom and not default. Then install the custom rom zip and reboot it should hopefully fully reboot. then look into installing a newer custom recovery.

yes, saw it. its a custom rom. tried wipe data / cache but didn't work. will try to install custom rom sentinel now.
was able to install the custom rom but kept on rebooting after few minutes. it already happened thrice now.
anything i am missing?
It could be the insecure kernel you used earlier is making it unstable, probably if the custom rom doesn't install a kernel. Only thing I can think of is install an official Samsung g3 rom which should repair all the partitions that might of been damaged or corrupted, use it for a while to make sure no reboots. Then go through root and install of custom rom again. In theory creating a good foundation to install a custom rom on.
Just out of curiosity did u download an official Samsung rom before starting to flash in case u need to send it away or sell it on? If not what network/country are u using? Is the phone locked to the network or unlocked?
Edit:- I never used a kernel flash to root my phone just used cf root 6.4 to get root and custom recovery cwm. I only changed my recovery this weekend to Phil touch.

THIS IS METHOD I USED AND IT IS 100 percent working. FULLY TESTED BY ME. However, I installed Super SU before trying this as I was rooting the device by different methods and found this most easy. Installing SuperSU from market before doing these steps is not required.
METHOD
This should work on both galaxy star. S5282 and S5280
Download CWM recovery
Download Odin
Download Super SU
Firstly, boot into odin mode by turn off your phone and wait 10 seconds. This is to ensure your phone has completely switched off.
Hold down power+volume down+home key. A screen will come asking you to continue. Press voume up key to continue.
Open odin as administrator and then click pda and choose recovery file downloaded from attachment. You will have to unzip the odin and recovery. Sometimes Odin wouldnot show files on desktop so make sure recovery is in DRIVE:/ANY NAME/ RECOVERY.TAR
Flash it by clicking start.
The phone will restart.
Switch off phone again. This time boot into recovery by pressing this combination. Hold down power+volume up+home key You may leave power key after you see model number.
Choose flash zip via recovery and choose SuperSU.zip
Restart phone after flashing the zip
YOU ARE ROOTED WITH CUSTOM RECOVERY. ENJOY
Update SuperSU from market if needed

I tried flashing a custom ROM, but it fails on an assertion about dvice == mintss.
I looked in the zip, and insiode build.prop there is mintss.
What is CWM expecting?
How can I debug this?
Thank you

U need to go to updater-script and build prop and put mint not mintss.
Sent from my GT-S5282 using xda app-developers app
I extracted the 2 files, modified mintss with mint, repacked them (with the zip command), but now I get:
script aborted (no error message)

After factory reset the device refuses access to the system
Do I experience again?
And I wish you specify the file before you experimenter exactly

Have you experience re-work factory settings after installing Recovery?

Well it seems like you only need to clear the cache of your phone. Turn off your phone and then go into recovery by using voulume+power+home.
Then wipe data and dalvik cache in recovery menu and restart your phone. Be patient, it should reboot. Wait ten minutes, if that doesnot work I will send you further instructions.

I think the problem is not with the recovery but in the root file by Mohan. Because I installed the same recovery but with CF root rather the Mohan one and there is no boot into recovery issue.

530H. I installed the latest firmware and then rooted it again using CF root and the installed the recovery. There is no more "Booting into recovery" issue.

I dont think so. Since I installed the latest firmware from Kazhkistan which is G530HXXU2ANL4 . And then installed the CF auto root, and then the custom recovery. And there is no more of that issue.

I am disagree,if you would have a firmware like me, this fz g530fz , like there isnĀ“t a cf autoroot firmware appropriate (only g530f ank),not my model g530fz, i had the recovery boot problem, I could only fix by flashin philz then (after flash g530f autoroot)
