Hi,
I get a GS3 with LFB stock, kernel stock etc.. Nothing flashed or changed on.
It's not really often, but it's like one time by week, i'm suddently on "Emergency Calls only" although i see the signal bars. I have to switch on and off the "Airplaine" mode for get back the name of my Carrier instead of "Emergency Calls Only".
Somebody can help me to find an origin ?
Thanks

First check your apn settings with your carrier, and if they are ok,, try flashing a different modern

APN settings are for the internet connectivity. They have nothing to do with making calls. Deleter all your apns. You will still be able to make calls.
hi. I came here and was about to post the same question. I am having the exact same problem as the op. every now and then the phone loses cell network connection and says emergency calls only. I simply activate flight mode then deactivate it and voila.....it's back to normal.
can be annoying when you are expecting an important call and realize your phone is not even connected to the network.
I am on a stock Rom and only rooted.

Yup, my bad, half asleep! Modem issue at a guess, or possibly SIM issue if it is a cut one

I'm getting same problem... I reset miss's phone last night (ALL back to factory settings) but i booted into the phone 1st and it was great on 02 no problem, then restored it from her backup, when i rebooted and put in all the info the phone asks for i noticed it says 'emergency calls only' i been messing with the APN settings but nothing, so i decided to my sim into it (THREE Network) and it comes up fine? What could be the problem? Could it be the modem setting? would putting a diff firmware onto this help? any ibfo will be great so i can carry on with this tonight.

Read post above yours and check correct Mobile Network settings .
If wrong IMEI check with network its not blocked and restore your backed up EFS folder .
Modem has no user settings .
Possible faulty sim also .

K so i got a vibrant. Its got the right product code, wrong imei(some fake 0049 thing) and when i unlocked it, it said network unlock successful. So everything shouldve been fine.
But everytime i turn it on, i just get 'no service'. It auto updates time and date and everything. and data works. But it just says no service so i cant make calls or texts.
Anyone got any ideas? I restored to factory multiple times. Odined back to stock firmware. Tried everything but no luck
This is the first thing I would try . Go to settings , wireless and network , mobile network settings then click network operators it'll search for a network and try to register to the network .

Did that a bunch of times. It just keeps saying your sim card doesnt allow a connection to this network. I tried a legit att sim card as well as a t-mobile one
Make sure you are in an area with good reception . When I lost data this is what did the fix for me . It didnt work first try either so keep searching it will eventually register the network .

I did but unfortunately no success. I have another vibrant and did the same exact thing and that works perfect everywhere. When i move over the sim card to this one, data works but just says no service.
I am having the same problem, It shows full network on the bar... but says NO SERVICE! When i try to make calls it says Not Registered on the Network... I don't get Data either... Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yea man ive been trying everything possible. Flashed like 10 different roms. Used different techniques to mess around with the nv_data.bin files. No luck
I don't think the fake IMEI would be the issue. I had the same fake number after I flashed a new ROM from stock - I could still make calls, etc.
But if you want to restore your nv_data.bin, you can pull it from a saved stock backup, make it the only thing in efs and reboot. If you don't think you have a backup stock, try looking for a file on the sdcard called ProductCodeCheck. It may also be under SGS Tools.
I recently put on stock ROM and was on Optus Australia no problem. I switched to Vodafone Australia prepaid and the drama started.
First I noticed.calls ended and never had a dial tone. I manually try to select my network carrier, it will show all of them .I hot register with Optus for example and it says it registers but when I go to make a call it says its not connected to network. Also I cannot change the csc or installs or anything at all with.
Anyway I'll post screen shots so its a little easier to make sense. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Same issue

Yah i just got off the phone with optus and started having the same issue, once i the person i was speaking on the phone to said something, the call dropped and now my phone is completely off the grid. Can you tell me if you got this resolved or not?
Thanks
I can absolutely guarantee it's either a carrier-side issue, or your IMEI is borked; check in settings/about phone/status. If it starts with 0044 restore your EFS backup. No EFS backup ? Then you have a problem.
Call your carrier if your IMEI is OK.
Woke up this morning with everything working. Got out of bed and place my phone on my desk and turned on my computer. I then looked back at my phone to see i had not service. Confused, i restarted my phone to see if that worked and it didnt. I tried another sim and it didnt work either. i then put both of the sims in a iphone and it worked there. I restored the phone to stock and 2 other roms and it still isnt working. The weird part is when on stock i get signal bars even when their is no sim. When i try to dial out i get "Not Registered on Network"
Any help is great help

It doesnt even show my network operator, thats the weird part it only shows rogers and when i put a sim in for fido (Rogers>Fido) i got service but no h+ even with the correct apn i only got edge
My Network operator doesn't show as a normal either - I do a Search and get (after a wait) Telstra, Optus and Voda - choose Telstra and it pops up a 'Registered on Network' msg.

i had the same very exact problem..and yes when its in auto mode it only detects gsm signal so the data is slow signal is E.
i usually use the wcdma only option so that the phone on searches for 3g h and h+ but now when i select that option it only gives me
not registered on network..and no data signal at all.. and also the weird thing is that there is a signal bar on it plus when i scan for
network it searches the other two carrier brand on our country not the sims own carrier. help anyone

Hey xTristinx, glad you got your phone working.
I have the same problem on my Galaxy S, my SIM wouldn't register a network on it but it worked on a different phone. My Galaxy S still gets a signal but always says "out of service". I think this might be a problem because my friend used his SIM card in my phone and it f***** up the bands. Could you give me any suggestions on how you fixed your problem?
Thank you.

You post a lot of information, not much of it any help.
Did the 3g ever work? Did you change something before it broke? Is the stock rom the right one for your country? Do calls and texts work? Are your APN settings right? Does the SIM work okay in another phone? Does your IMEI number in settings match the one under the battery?
Answering a few of the above many help you, also go read the stickies in general.

yea it's work every time, no i didn't change anything, yea stock rom is for my country, yea calls and texts work, my apn settings right, yea it works on other phone, yea imei match
i didn't found anything about my problem in general section !!
Do you have 3g in your location/ network ??
Suggest if you have tried correct modem and CSC for your network only other solution is a return to a service centre .
Hi all,
So my friend has a galaxy s 3 and he's not getting service so I said i'll take a look at it.
So i rooted it and changed roms and stuff and I put my sim in and add the apn settings of Giffgaff and
I got data connection H+ but then I tried to make a call and it says No mobile network phone.
I checked the imei and doesn't appear to be corrupt and I checked *#0011# and it said IMEI CERT = Pass.
So don't know what the problem is and the phone is sim unlocked .
I checked online to make sure that the phone he gave me wasn't blacklisted or anything just in case lol
Thanks!
Have a read of the 'efs know this stuff' sticky in the general forum.

Must be hardware failure then..If phone is not stolen/blocked different stock software doesn't work imei is intact apn settings are ok and patched modems kernels not working than all options are pointing to some sort of hardware failure.

Getting a H+ signal is different from actually getting a working data. Try to check if data is really working (browsing etc).
If there's no data even with the right APN, means the phone is probably black-listed from the carrier or you need a new (patched) modem. The right modem will solve this issue if it's not black-listed
If the data works but no phone calls, means you can try to flash stock rom and see if the problem persists.
If you were on 4.3, don't flash to 4.1.2 btw
PS: There have been a lot of refurbished/refreshed Sammy phones on the market. Their hardware issues are well known like bluetooth stops working etc etc. So if he/she got a refurb, then probably hardware issue as well.

Thanks, I can browse the internet using the mobile data connection so i can go to google and stuff but can't make calls.
I try to call the phone using my phone i get We are unable to connect to this number.
However, if it was blacklisted would I still be able to use the internet

Data sometimes works even if the phone is black-listed depending on the carrier and their implementation policies. Wifi always works though.
You mentioned changing roms.
So which rom are you currently using?
More questions:
Can you try stock 4.3 for your device/carrier?
Are you using the same telcom operator (carrier)?
Is your phone carrier-locked?
