xp cannot connect to s3 wifi hotspot - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Besides the bluetooth problem I have with this thing (already posted), now I have another problem. I have T-Mobile, 10GB which includes tethering. EVERY time I try to connect my laptop to the s3, all I get is "waiting for the network." To hopefully simplify things, I've made the s3 an open connection. I spoke with Samsung support, suggested that I do a hard reset. Did that, no change, only suggestion was to exchange the handset. I did that, EXACT same problem! The laptop has never had a problem connecting with ANYTHING before, including my old TP2. USB tethering works.
Any ideas?

can another laptop connect to ur s3?

USB Tether with Froyo

I'm trying to tether my work computer to my phone using the new usb tether option, however when I check to tether, windows tries to install the drivers but can't locate them. I have tried installing the drivers from the samsung website but no luck but that didn't fix the issue. Anyone have any thoughts?

Try the drivers from the odin thread. These might help you out. I will try to find the link if I can.

Try the drivers that's on the vibtant sticky page under android development.

I'll give this a shot, Thanks.
why don't you just activate your "mobile AP" (wifi) and wifi tether your phone to your pc, using your phone as a wifi spot to get ur pc on the internet... that's what i do and it works great!
Yeah, that would be great and all, however my work pc doesn't have a wireless card built in. Trying to do this without management knowing...

[Q] Reverse Tethering on SGS2

I'm looking to access PC's internet and pass it to the Phone. Is this possible for our phones?
There are a number of cheap usb wifi adapters that can double as access points.
I'm guessing you have a laptop with mobile internet?

I have wifi at home but at work, I get no signal (data or voice) and wondering if I can connect via USB. I don't have wifi at work.
Yeah they'd probably have issue with you wirelessly broadcasting their internet.
Bluetooth however would work and is cheap. And won't interfere with the network at all.
I've read else where on xda that people have gotten it to work, but the only instructions were for linux, and I got a feeling your work computer is xp.
How easy? Alot depends on the operating system and bluetooth adapter.

Issues with OS X tethering?

I just bought my S3 not too long ago and have noticed that I can't seem to tether to my MacBook Pro under OS X, but it seems to work fine under Windows. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this and if there was a fix? Loving the phone but it's really a deal breaker for me if this is a consistent issue. Thanks!

What do you mean by "tether" ? Are you trying to get network connection going through the S3 on your mac via USB tether? Or are you talking about file transfer?

Utorrent stuck at 0%

Hi guys
I have tried in many occasions to use utorrent plus other clients in my S3 and can seek to get a single download to start, they all are stick at 0%
Thought maybe it was to do with the port perhaps its alport 6882 but I don't know what to change this to or how to forward the port to my s3 IP address.
Can someone let me know what to do to get this working?
Thanks in advance

Usually you have to forward ports on your router. Google how to forward ports and you will know

I have but all I can find is how to do this on a laptop. Which is fine, my laptop already has it all set up right...
I just can't seem to get it done on my s3.

port forwarding is not setup on a laptop or phone (at least not only). You have to open the port on your router, assign, if possible, fixed IPs to your laptop as well as phone and then it should work. some routers also allow you to reserve a certain IP address for a certain end user (e.g. laptop or phone) which will help you if you do not want to give fixed IPs but use DHCP (the way I do it)
Is there a guide somewhere for that asi have no idea how to open a port on my router
What of i want to download over 3G?

For 3G you do not need to open anything as it depends on your provider. For your router there is one website that describes the process for nearly all routers, but I forgot the name.
Portforward.com maybe yes, or Google your routers name and open port

Sorry guys but have got nowhere with this....
Can anyone who has utorrent or ttorrent or any of these torrent apps say what they did from install to 1st torrent to get it working?
I assume that over 3G I shouldnt need to tweak anything yet downloading does absolutely nothing. Over WiFi I get the same.
I can pick up most things but really don't get port forwarding and not even sure that is the problem. I would love to be able to use torrent apps but I just dont know how.
I can get utorrent working on pc fine but googling and trial and error but I'm getting no where on my S3.
Can I get a little help?

If you have T-Mobile, they usually block p2p traffic.
