If I'm not by a PC can I rename to PH98IMG.zip and install via bootloader? I do realize this currently is a .img
You can't through the bootloader with this img. However there are some instructions floating around on a method to do it through terminal emulator but if you find them you'll need to make sure they are for the rezound.
Once I get home from work ill package them up in a bootloader zip and ill see if I can't get the right partition info so they can be flashed from terminal.

I just opened up another ph98img zip I had for another splash screen with 7 zip, deleted the splash1 out of it, and copied this splash1.img in it's place, closed zip. Placed on ext sd, and flashed in bootloader. Worked like a charm.

Good news! I finally figured out the partition that splash1 resides on. So now there are 3 confirmed ways to flash splash screens.
The details will be in the OP (which is getting prettified tonight)
I like the black reflection.

Just upload the pic you want and I'll make it for ya! Just remember to keep in mind that our screen resolution is 540x960.
Rename the files to PG86IMG.zip and run it in Bootloader and your phone shall handle the rest.
I have now posted a VIDEO TUTORIAL for those that were haveing trouble understand the written tutorial. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suOrmAEhkOg
SELF EXPLANATION and TUTORIAL
I have attached the cmd tool to make your very splash screen. I got it after a long search and it was created by "Pof" a retired developer back in 2008. A moment in silence for the help he provided to these boards. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405118
Here is the Stock Splash Screen incase you want to revert back. STOCK SPLASH Shouts out to Rydah805 for hooking it up.
1. Download the nbimg.zip I HAVE ATTACHED IT!!!! That other link is a different version.
2. Extract the nbimg.zip to your desktop. It should create a folder called nbimg and should contain the "nbimg" file and the "android-info" txt file. You can create splash screens for other devices as long as you replace this android-info file with its proper one. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT ANDROID-INFO.TXT FILE FOR YOUR DEVICE. THE ONE I HAVE INCLUDED IS FOR THE HTC EVO 3D
3. Create a blank 540x960 image in photoshop and design it however you like. I usually find a photo on deviantart.com and paste it onto the 540x960 blank image I created.
4. Save the file as "splash1.bmp" and it must be 24-bit.
5. Place the splash1.bmp file in your nbimg folder.
6. Open up your command prompt/terminal by holding down shift and right clicking the nbimg folder and selecting open command window here. It should automatically put you into that folders directory otherwise you will have to "cd /" to it's directory.
7. Type "nbimg -F splash1.bmp -w 540 -h 960" into the terminal and press enter. That should create a splash1.bmp.nb file in your nbimg folder.
8. Rename the splash1.bmp.nb file to splash1.img and save it.
9. Add the splash1.img file and android-info.txt file to a zip archive called PG86IMG.zip
10. You should know how to load it into bootloader from this point on.
With that being said, higher res pics will make better quality Splashes. Here is mines for example. Say Hello to Ulquiorra Schiffer, the 4th ESPADA.

OH SNAP! ...you say??
This is a quick tutorial for anyone who may want to change [any] image into your new splash screen.
Prerequisites
- s-off
- drivers for the e3d (if on windows)
- nbimg for windows users or for linux users (probably best to put this in your SDK tools folder since that will already be in your path)
- an image you want as your splash screen in BMP format
(^^ it's probably best to have a BMP image that is 540x960 since that is our resolution)
The Process
1. In command prompt (windows) or terminal (linux) type the following:
Code:
nbimg -F nameofimg.bmp -w 540 -h 960
2. In the same directory as your BMP image you will now find a file called: "nameofimg.bmp.n0"
3. Rename "nameofimg.bmp.n0" to "splash.img"
.......Windows:
Code:
rename nameofimg.bmp.n0 splash.img
.......Linux:
Code:
mv nameofimg.bmp.n0 splash.img
4. Now we're done converting the image to a format the e3d can use so let's reboot to the bootloader:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
.......OR ...power down your phone, hold the volume up and hit the power button and make sure your usb cord is plugged in.
5. Time to flash the image, in the same command prompt or terminal window that you opened earlier type the following:
Code:
fastboot flash splash1 splash.img
6. w00t! you're done!! Use the volume rocker to go down to "reboot" and hit the power button to reboot and see your new splash screen.
blakejohnson86 said:
You might want to mention that 32-bit BMPs don't tend to work well with nbimg. I don't know if 16-bit BMPs do either, but I find it safe to stick with 24-bit.

anyone feel like creating a splash similar to the original Evo 4G 'white text on black' that was so popular that just said 'HTC Evo 4G', but perhaps just use the text from the 'HTC Evo 3D' straight text logo? I bet it'd be pretty simple..

Actually while I was trying my custom logo, which I messed up the first time. This is what happen when I flashed it. I fixed my logo and flashed, all good, but decided I liked this look better while it boots, so I just flashed the messed up logo.bin again. As far as to how to just remove it, I don't know. It looks a lot like the Bionics bootloader menu though.
Funny accident haha! Where is the logo? I want to try it! Or can I get the file you flashed?

also but in the badlogo.zip with the bin inside that will cause you to get the bootup screen I got.

where is this supposed to be stored on the phone? when flashing where will it be saved.
No no no you have to go into fastboot.
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot reboot
Edit:
Open the zip and pull the bin file. Place the bin file in the same directory as your fastboot. Place your phone in fastboot and connect to pc. Open cmd prompt. Click start, enter cmd in search and command prompt will com up. type location of your fastboot.exe file. example C>user/sdk/fastboot. Then run commands.
For a noob, what would the commands be, and where is fastboot?

Green, I'm not sure. I never gave it that much thought. Mainly because if I didn't like the one I made on the phone, I would just piece together another. There are logo images all over these forums that look pretty cool and are fairly easy to tweek and use. Making your own is kinda fun and its yours. I believe there is a how to over on the Atrix forum or maybe the Dinc.

Ok Unzip the attached to your C: drive (I mean the "root" of the C: drive)
I use moto-fastboot, most people use just fastboot no real deference.
Place the logo.bin file in the same location as the fastboot
open start and type cmd in search (windows 7)
open start and click run, type cmd (windows xp)
should see something like this:
"C:\Users\Computer Name>"
type: moto-fastboot flash logo logo.bin
it will do its thing
then typ: moto-fastboot reboot

I put the bin files in zips so the bad file and good file would be separated not to flash in recovery. The Fastboot method is by far easier and quicker.

Just flashed this and it is working amazingly! So far the only bugs I've ran into is the battery at 10% which has already been stated. To get into recovery, you can type (no quotes) "reboot recovery". You can also access it by pressing Volume Down + Power while booting up, and then choose "Recovery". NOTE: You may need to disable Settings > Power > Fast Boot for this method to work.
How to flash via fastboot
I will update instructions later, but if you choose this way, you likely know what you're doing. Make sure to rename to recovery.img if necessary! Place the ClockworkMod recovery.img in the platform-tools (or even tools folder, depending on your SDK version), reboot into fastboot, and type:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
How to flash stock recovery
Follow the same set of instructions you used above, just download the stock recovery.img below.
Make sure to rename to recovery.img if necessary!

Amazing!! I still have yet to get my phone, but I am hoping that there will be ROM's ready once I get it. Im itching for a new flash. Lets get some AOKP or Gummy on here ASAP!!!
Thank you so much for your work toast, just like the OG Evo, I was there at day 1 with ya.
Progress
Thanks man! Also why if flashing via phone recommended over fastboot?
Works great! thanks for coming out with this so fast.
WTF this was fast. First root now recovery So happy I got this phone.
Should I take the htc unlock or will there be another way to unlock the boot loader soon? Advice please.
Is there any issues with using the HTC Dev unlock after root and the "tampered" message?
NICE WORK!!! Cant wait for the non-HTC unlock method...

There is a way to get rid of the tampered. Just flash the RUU and its just like it came out the box. No reason not to do it.

Just do the unlock, It's fine. That's what I did. You can always relock with the ruu.

It will still happen if you run the ruu once you root. Seems like it does some check on /system and tells you tampered if its been modified (as in rooting). Don't worry about it.
