Hi, i am running the latest samsung rom XXLG8, I have rooted with CF-Root-SGS-6.4.tar, what i want to know is
how do i backup my phone.

CWM recovery backup and restore = Nandroid backup
Clockworkmod is a 'custom recovery' made by xda member koush. Every phone had a recovery partition designed so that if the user messes up a ROM installation, they can recover their phone. CWM is a modified recovery installed into the recovery partition that allows advanced control over ROM recovery, installation and much more.
Features of CWM include:
- NANDroid Backup, This allows you to completely back up your existing ROM with all its files, data and apps
- Restore Backup, Restores a previous backup (obviously...)
- ROM installation, Allows you to install a ROM contained inside a flashable .zip file
- Wipe data/Factory reset, completely erases all of your data contacts, apps etc, leaving your phone 'as new'

How to install CWM
If you have already rooted your phone using the CF-root Kernel, then you already have CWM! If not, then just install the kernel linked to above in the 'how to root your phone' section
How to make a NANDroid backup using CWMBackups are important because they allow you to restore your ROM incase flashing goes wrong, or you phone starts playing up and displaying wierd bugs.
To make a backup, you need to boot into CWM recovery (done through the 'cwm' app installed onto your phone when you flash the cf-root kernel). Then, you need to navigate down to 'backup/restore' using the volume keys, and select it using the home key. From here, just click 'backup' and you are all set! Leave your phone make the backup (its takes some time) and then just reboot when it tells you its finished. To restore your backup, do the same but instead of clicking backup, click 'restore' instead. Choose which backup you would like to restore and leave the phone to do its magic. Done.

Hi
Tried to find a similar thread but failed so I ask here.
I have a 10.1 Wifii & 3G
Did a full backup with Rom manager before doing anything.
Upgraded to overcome ROM 2.
Realized that there was no Swedish language in the ROM, so I decided to go back to the backed up ROM instead.
When I choose Restore in the Rom manager menu, my restore is there and it looks like it is working. It reboots, it checks the files, applies all img and other files, BUT. When it's done it just sits there on the Overcome CwM Recover v5.1.2.6. It feels like it never gets done? I also tried to do a restore from inside the nandroid menu but same thing. I also tried to wipe several time, but same thing. If I try to reboot the 10.1, it gets stuck on the splash screen.
SO, my question.
I really want to keep my data on the sdcard...
Scared of doing the restock on teamovercome homepage because it says
-"IT WILL ALSO WIPE OUT YOUR INTERNAL STORAGE!"
Is there any tips anyone can give me. Is this because my old ROM had different(older) boot files or something?

Try installing CWM 4.0.0.4 using Odin and restore the backup and see if it works.
A small advice: Don't use ROM Manager for creating backups and restoring. Always do from the CWM directly. ROM Manager usually messes up the things

I already had that version, but i tried to downgrade but same issue.
Can one extract data from the backup, example favorities and manually add them ? If so wich img file is that and how do i open them?

You can use the paid version of Titanium Backup.
It can restore individual apps+data from CWM backups
Feel free to move this post as I am new and not sure where the perfect place is.
Titanium Backup
-The only thing I need to be running batch backups of is all user apps + system data correct? And only restore apps not system data unless I am on the exact same ROM as before?
-Is there stuff it consistently misses that I should backup manually?
Nandroid
-I always launched CWM Recovery through the GN toolkit using "6. Flash CWM Recovery, Standard." And sometimes I would select Recovery from the Fastboot menu and it would be back at the regular recovery. Is there a different way I should have been going about getting to the nandroid backup? (assuming I can't boot into Android)
-I have now installed ROM Manager and hit "Flash CWM Recovery" and then I made a nandroid backup when I rebooted into recovery. Does this mean any time I choose Recovery from the Fastboot menu that it will boot into CWM Recovery?

all the queries u asked had answers by urself. ur understandings are correct.
further TB can be used to remove unnecessary system apps or convert system apps to user apps.
and there can be only one recovery for a device (u hv cwm). so everytime it enters cwm recovery only

Hey all. I'm newbie. I use this phone sgs2 for 1 year. I see this AOKP Build 4 CM10 and I wanted to install.
I never root my phone before and always use stock rom. (Now it's 4.0.3)
I learned my kernel version(CF-Root v5.4 - I9100XWLP7/LP8/LP9) and root'ed it with odin.
My supersu and cwm is installed and working.
Downloaded the zip file for AOKP CM10 and learned how i will flash it but i have some questions now.
1.) What is this "efs backup" stuff??? Is this necessary??
2.) I bought a Navigation App, will i lost it?? or how i keep it?
3.) May I install this room over my 4.0.3 I9100XWLP7 root'ed stock rom??

1. EFS is a partition which contains information about phone such as IMEI, S/N. It would be good if you make its backup.
2. No. You will need to reinstall it from Google Play.
3. Yes. After flashing custom ROM you will need to do a factory reset. So backup your contacts and SMS first.
4. Yes, in CWM: backup and restore > backup to external (or internal) sdcard.
sooo, if the efs partition is necessary. Is that CWM Backup getting it?

I tried checking guides and using search but found nothing, this may be stupid question but when trying new rom or patching newer version of rom which requires wipe all things are reset and apps are gone. So is there program to save settings and all the apps and then after wipe restore them so everything would be like before wiping?

Yes, you can make a Nandroid backup "it saves all setting apps" you installed even The alarm clock that you setted to go to school:
1- Go to CWM" Clockworkmod Recovery menu"
2- Backup and Restore
3- and u will have a bunch of choices (Backup to internal or External SDcard) (Restore from internal or external sdcard)
after you choose wait for the device to complete backup and then reboot, the next time you want everything as it was perfectly you just have to restore the Nandroid backup that you made.
Important : DONT EVER CHANGE NANDROID BACK FOLDER NAME because MD5 checksum recognize only the folder name that was created during the backup.

Should i advanced restore and restore data only, wont it restore the whole "older" rom too if you make complete restore?
Using nandroid backups to restore data after flashing is a bad way to do so, because it does exactly that - restores all the apps and settings, which essentially equals to a no-wipe. Use Titanium Backup and backup only user apps

Okay, thanks. Did not know that. So i can backup my apps with Titanium but what about all the settings? Is there method to back them up? I use Apex launcher so it does have backup but those system settings, anyway to back those up?

Titanium backup backups apps+settings, so u wont lose any progress on games, even facebook and twitter remain all the same, no need to log back in after restoring the apps. And for your launcher, im using nova launcher and in settings i can make a backup of my homescreens etc. So if i do a full wipe i restore my apps with TB and the nova launcher backup and everything is back to as it was before the wipe! For apps and data use titanium backup. it also makes backup of your user interface settings contacts etc

You can use latest busybox and can install via busybox installer from google play
