CWM 6.x.x.x - Can't backup - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dears,
whatever ROM with integrated CWM 6.x.x.x I install I'm unable to do backups.
Backup takes very long and the result is a folder of 16MB.
How can I fix this?
Fix permissions and wipes are useless.
Tks!

i would suggest u to make bkps with CWM 5.x.x integrated kernel, since bkp made with CWM 6.x.x. is not backward compatable for now.
thats u cant restore those bkp's using CWM 5.x.x later if u have any issues

Well, I'm using the Resurrection Remix 3.0, that as other ROMs has CWM 6.0 integrated...
I've tried to install other versions from ROM Manager, nothing changes...

u can try the latest siyah v3.5.2 its good and the cwm integrated with it has no bkp issues for now

Rom Manager
Don't use ROM Manager, it doesn't work well with our phones.

Done with custom recovery did back up now whatttt!!!

Hi after spending a huge time I finally did it and got into recovery and made backup.
Of also made a titanium backup.
Obviously my mem card has backup folders should I save them?
How I mean is there any particular way?
After the answer to above then comes the next problem.
I just need to download the zip file of the custom rom and then just flash directly.
then one more thing
assuming that now I'm in a custom firmware and wanna switch back to the default is it easy?
How do I do the custom recovery? Of the default obviously.:-D
Thanks in advance.

Really guys everybody says this and that can someone give at least a proper that gives method to get back to original.
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
Since ur done with recovery n backup, make sure u have the thunderg Custom recovery, clockwork isn't supported my majority of the roms u find here
Save the backup files from the sdcard to ur PC to be safe
Next just download a custom rom that suits ur need, copy it ur sdcard, boot into the recovery with the 3 button combo and just flash the zip from there
All instruction can be found in individual rom threads
Now,going back to the stock rom,its simple and easy
Just download the LG original firware and flash it with KDZ Updater
No warranty will be void so just chill play arnd with ur phone....
Thanks dude +1 for you.

And what about the titanium backup? Any use to store it?
I mean I thought that I could go back to the same state using all these and I mean the exact state as now.
if I have to flash with a new rom even if its default only then what it the use of back up that I just did if I won't be using it at all.?

truely make a backup in recovery its worth mentioning which recovery u r using as thunderg 1.2.1 cannot restore so use 1.2 or lower-clockwork is better but it doesnt support installing all rom at this point of time but its better than thunderg.once u get support from all rom its worth installing clockwork.
now the main part
boot into recovery
make a backup of current rom and transfer it to pc
Wipe data/factory reset.
3. Wipe Cache.
4. Wipe sd-ext.
5. Format /system.
6.make partition swap 0 ,ext 512(convert ext 2 to ext 3 ,ext 3 to ext 4- class 4 sd card minimum required for ext4)
7.Select usb ms-toogle |copy the rom image to sd card
6. Intall zip from sd card.|Flash CM7.(if using cm7)
7. Reboot.
8. Done.
hope it was helpful.more tweaks and market zip is provided in differnt rom thread choose accordingly whatever u need.
ENJOY
if u get a bootloop just flash the zip file provided in mik rom for bootloop and then wipe again and flash the rom
AS FAR AS TITANIUM BACKUP IS CONCERNED ONCE U INSTALL THAT IN UR NEW ROM U GET TO RESTORE ALL APLLICATION U HAVE BACKUP EARLIER.JUST MAKE SURE U HAVE SAVED THE BACKUP FILE IN PC AND TRANSFER IT BACK AGAIN.AND IF U WANT TO GET BACK TO ORIGINAL JUST RESTORE THE BACKUP U CREATED EARLIER BEFORE FLASHING NEW ROM.

thunderg recovery is the old preocess of flashing file which sometimes leads to bootloop or unsupportive to some tweaks and add on as it is unable to run the scrip porperly hence clockwork is considered better which handles everything smoothly as it the latest way of flashing zip and files.
But i would suggest to use thunderg as for now as all rom developed here are not suppoting clockwork so once it gets updated u can flash the clockworkmode and yeah finally it does support cm7.
i just hope that clockwork gets some updates like it is in hd2 forum solving some minor issue
Clockworkmod doesnt support many ROMs because the ROMs are using the old Amend scripts. Even google has stopped supporting Amend from Android 1.6.
If you want the old roms to work with clockworkmod, you can use the amed to edify tool to make it compatible with clockworkmod.

hi i used thunderg recovery 1.1.
i asked a question about how to recovery with 1.2.
basically when i follow the lin k with 1.2 it ends up with recovery image only.
there is no flash iamge attached with it.
so should i use the flash image of 1.1 to do recovery again.?
or what?
anybody here knows the answer ??

Yes.you need to use the same flash image file to install v1.2 or v1.2.1.
I suggest that you follow the instructions given in the following thread -

[Q] Quick question regarding custom ROMs and SD partitions

I want to flash a new rom (probably Mik_os' 6.3)
Can I do it WITHOUT partitioning my sd card? I DO NOT want to run a2sd, apps2sd, data2sd or anything else.

Take a nandroid backup before you install a custom ROM its a must !
Go through the custom rom's page and they will have their requirements posted.
I have installed andyt's [ROM] Gingerbread-2.3.4-rc2 @2011-05-22-21.00+GMT0 without partitioning sdcard. It worked and is working without any problem .. but have to install your custom apps u installled. and most of the non useful applicationos installed with the stock rom won't b available here ... if you want to use it ... then try Root Unistaller or My backup and backup the APK files and later install on your custom ROM.
@andy
[ROM] Gingerbread-2.3.4-rc2 @2011-05-22-21.00+GMT0
this ROM has sorted out my data connection problems with provider Uninor (India) on the stock ROM i tried but not worked.. now on your ROM is working with the same APN settings... Don't know what underlies.. But thanks to andy for his Hard work !
I have all my apps backed up with titanium, my APNs withAPN Backup & Restore, etc.
I'm just hoping I can run mik_os' ROM without patitioning and I dont want to read thru 400+ pages to find out.
Cheers
BTW, I'll be using clockworkmod recovery to install the ROM
If you're not gonna use app2sd or data2sd then you don't need the ext partition.

yep, you don't need to partition, and the ROM is compatible with cwm.

[Q] Problems with updating Resurrection Remix Rom

Sorry but I need some help. When upgrading roms a few times, no problems ever occurred. CWM always worked smoothly. Now, I have the Resurrection Remix 1.0 Pro installed and was attempting to upgrade to Resurrection Remix 1.2 AOKP. I see that when running CWM I only had to choice to access the "download" folder on the scard. When attempting to install the Remix 1.2 rom, I always end up with an e signature fail. I tried several times but had the same results. I had to reboot and stay with Remix 1.0 until someone can help me get the upgraded rom installed. I wiped all the data and reset, and don't know what else to do.
Please help!!
OK, not sure the procedure you made... but might also be that some files you got were corrupted. Check to see they all are fine before going ahead with this way to install:
Do a full wipe(factory reset+cache+dalvik cache)
Install the Main ROM
Install Siyah-v3.0.1-CWM.zip
Reboot
Do the initial setup of things
Go back to CWM and install navigation button fix
Reboot
Then go back to CWM and install app themes (there are some bugs, but if you want the black themes, then install classic first, then black)
Reboot
Some people have other issues after, but see how this goes.
I would change the DPI settings to 184 or 210 for everything to work fine from market apps.
*if have more problems, just reply here.
Is the file on an external SD?
It's wherever you put it, though some files will only flash properly from external SD.
I think it's the internal sd

At first I thought I had the files on the external sd card, but when rebooting in recovery with CWM it looked like it was only allowing me to access the download folder on the internal sd card.
Thanks for any suggestions.

The CWM that came with the remix 1.0 pro rom is that weird one that seems to have to boot from the other little app. Do you recall this is the CWM zip file that was added to the files to download for the remix 1.0 pro rom. It doesn't appear to have the same flexibility that the CWM had that came with my previously used rom...remix 9.4
Any comments??
With 1.0 its 3e (stock recovery) so you have to put cwm.zip in your external SD or your cache then flash it through 3e. Now you have cwm. If its the one from westcrip its touch so don't use the volume buttons.. actually touch the screen.
Hopefully that helps.

There is a newer 1.3 version out now for Resurrection Remix with far simpler installing procedure... and people have reported most bugs fixed now (maybe a couple remain to be found).

Now, I'm really scratching my head. When I try installing the 1.3 rom it begins ....but returns this message and then aborts.
E: failed to verify whole-life signature
E: signature verification failed
I re downloaded the rom 1.3 to make sure it wasn't corrupt, and it did the same thing. Then I downloaded remix 1.2 just to see if this would install properly. I got the same result with the failed signature coming up in red and then it aborts. So something is not allowing me to change roms?? At present I have remix 1.0 installed.
Please I need some assistance figuring this out. I don't know what to do now?
Thanks in advance
Check if your current rom is having any beta releases of siyah 3.0, if so then it would be the cause, download cf root, or any latest version of custom kernel in tar format and flash it via Odin, now enter cwm and flash the new rom, you would be good to go

Works fine ....but is there a GPS problem?
I got the darn thing installed. Thanks. I was able to install the CWM......one that worked properly and the remix 1.3 got installed without a hitch. One problem I'm noticing the the GPS taking a whole bunch of time trying to locate sats. Is there is gps fix ??

hi, i'm trying to install this ROM+the custom kernel it requires.
This is what i've done so far:
1. restored the stock ROM with ODIN as described here (point "3."),
2. loaded "ClockWorkRec5830i.zip" from the "Android system recovery <3e>";
3. Wiped Data, Cache and Dalvik
4. Mounted System
5. installed "kernel_CM7_v4.0_cooperve.zip" and "CM7_cooperve_RC_04.zip"
Apparently everything went fine (no error messages), but now the phone seems stucked at the Samsung logo...

Ok, i can reflash the stock rom back without problems, but what about the CM7.2 ROM?
I've read here that the ROM should be flashed with the Samsung recovery mode to prevent softbricks.
Or, should i install this custom CWM first?
side question:
- is this the only 4.x kernel for the S5830i?
The other 4.x ROM i've found are still using the 2.x Android kernel so there is no 4.x apps compatibility with them, correct?

hm.
Installing CM based ROMs isn't just about installing the ROM itself. First off, yes you use CWM recovery to flash CM7. However, you must first format all your partitions to EXT4 first. Search for the EXT4 formatter tool in the CM7/9 threads by bieltv.3, they have them in the OP. When you format these partitions it is best to use the temporary CWM you linked above. But it does not matter after you flash the CM Specific Basic Kernel (which is also linked in bieltv.3's CM7/9 posts like the EXT4 formatter) because CWM recovery is built-in. From there just mount everything and flash CM7.

Yes, but you must also consider the hardware requirements of the app. For example, you can install ICS-compatible apps like Nova Launcher, which can run on armv6 devices, but you cannot install Clash of Clans, which requires armv7 architechture to run.

I completely agree. Don't forget some apps need ICS API or greater to work irrespective of the architecture on which it runs

As far as I know, googling is the best method. You can also guess from the app file size: bigger apks generally mean a resource-heavy app, armv7 architechture required and vice versa.

That is because the kernel cannot mount /cache properly. (I'm assuming you got the infamous 492 error.) In that case, 1 sure fire way of fixing it is to go to recovery and making a nandroid (backup). After that make an advanced restore of the cache. It works for all the devices using the CM Specific Basic Kernel, essentially the range of BCM21553 devices.
Fixed following Point 4 here (format "/System", then reinstall CM7 and gapps).
(My error probably was that i rebooted the system between the 2 installs.)
EDIT: now i'm having an issue extending the internal storage: I've installed s2e, created the ext3 partition and moved the apps, but after the reboot all the apps are disappeared...
EDIT2: fixed by reinstalling and using Mounts2SD instead of s2e.

Sorry been busy so I haven't been able to try it yet.
As for recoveries I've tried both TWRP and Philz touch and they both work ok as far as creating backups, wiping, and installing roms. However both seem to have significant issues as far as restoring a stock nandroid backup. As far as I can tell it's an issue with permissions, it's impossible to move/edit/delete/copy etc. files in a file explorer such as ES, after a nandroid restore. However if you're only looking to be able to flash new roms, either recovery should work OK. Also I can tell you that I was able to successfully install both recoveries' .img file using the flashify app in the play store. I was also able to install the Philz .zip file while in TWRP. Hope that helps

Sorry been busy so I haven't been able to try it yet.
As for recoveries I've tried both TWRP and Philz touch and they both work ok as far as creating backups, wiping, and installing roms. Any idea if Stockless would work with the SM-T530NU? I'm pretty sure the only difference is the NU has IR blasters, which I don't use anyway

SystemUI.apk and SystemUI.odex from odex stock
SystemUI.apk from deodexed stock
SystemUI.apk from stockless
Like the pre rooted rom thogh maybe switch to the free nova launcher since prime thats in the rom is a paid app also maybe add the latest supersu with its icon.
