I know the firmware is region based what is the best way to make sure i know where my S3 came from.
I'm in the US and bought it on amazon. Are the numbers behind the battery region based?

You could check on the box. It should be something like I9300RWDXXX where XXX is the CSC and you can look it up. Hooking up the phone to KIES will also show the CSC in brackets. Thats another way to find out.

You could also install Samsung Galaxy S / S2 CSC app from PLAY and it will give you the (XXX) code.

Where I come from that's called Asia.
Good lord, he's trying to find out where the tab he owns was originally released for sale.
It's definitely not a US version, we don't have a 3g one yet.
googling that model number comes up with them for sale in malaysia, uk, and new zealand, so I guess it's basically the international unlocked version.

Thanks alot. =.="
The model number seems to be rather basic across the world isn't it?
The back of the box has spanish on it...could it be a Europe version? I remember samsung galaxy S and Tab was able to identify by the baseband or kernel...but I couldn't find anything from it. =/
One can track the origin, probably, from the shipped stock firmware! The codes(UBKG6) relate to region. Believing regional tabs have respective regional firmwares.

Judging by that website it looks like it's Brazil, which makes sense because they speak Spanish and Portuguese down there.

Yeah. I couldn't figure out if it's using the firmware or kernel or whatever, that's why if I were to search, I couldn't get the search words correct. But that site helps, though needs abit of understanding hehe.
Thank you all!
Hi, I'm about to buy me new S3 and I found 2 models being sold in Amazon but I'm not sure the differences between them. Does anyone can tell me the differences between these two GT-I9300RWDDBT and GT-I9300RWDBTU?
Thanks!
i think thats just software versions, as long as it says GT-I9300 you know that its a Galaxy S3, the other codes at the end prob represent firmware versions, even if you get a phone with old firmware version though, just update it Click thanks if helped
Since we are all guessing here, I'd rather believe that this code has little to do with software and more to do with hardware, like the intended market (US or EU power adapter plug) or the type of radio (if there is more than one, but since it's not LTE then probably not). No need for Thanks.
Its the sale code of the phone. DTB is for Germany, the other one, idk? Seems to be UK sale code.
So choose the right phone for your country
If u google the DBTU model it looks like its CDMA
Hey guys,
I live in New Zealand and recently bought a black s3 several weeks ago from a parallel importer as the shops here only sell pebble blue and white.
As it is imported how can i find out which country code software I should be using.
I received several device manuals and one was in Croatian, but there are other language manuals in the box too.
In kies my firmware version has a "(SEE)" at the end of it. eg. ends with "CSC:LK4 (SEE)"
Please help somebody

Awesome cheers for that!
Do note however, this only shows what firmware is on your phone right now. It is not necessarily the original. Give me your phone for a minute and I can make it say various different places, including NZ.
It makes no difference what country your phone is originally from mate.
Just go to Sam Mobile and download the latest Official NZ firmware and flash with Odin. Then it'll be exactly the same as any phone you buy over the counter from Vodafone/Telecom NZ.
Sent from my GT-I9305 using xda app-developers app
I am in US and am thinking of getting the Z5C on AT&T. Since AT&T does not really sell this device, does anyone know how software and firmware updates will work, since the carrier will not push through any updates for this particular device?
You'll get unbranded version and you will not need to wait for carrier to push updates.
You can flash any customization you wish using flashtool, and OTA updates come directly from Sony. I bought an import with Hong Kong firmware and flashed it to Nordic version. Has everything that a US version would have, except 4G icon instead of LTE.
I bought mine on Amazon from a prime seller. Was sourced from the HK SAR market since it has that particular firmware. Says 4G instead of LTE but that is fine and I get firmware updates direct from Sony. Great device.

Why did you flash a Nordic version? Is that your region and is there any advantage over the Taiwan version I have (I'm in the U.S. and it has U.S. English already). Thanks.

Just my preference, I like not having the NFC icon in status bar when it's on, and don't need all the additional languages/keyboards of HK version it shipped with.
Generally, European regions seem to get update sooner than others.

Thanks. I hate the NFC icon too. I didn't know it wasn't there in certain firmwares. Maybe when Marshmallow comes I'll flash a different region.

I read that Z5/Z5c is releasing in US on February 7th, so we'll get an official US firmware soon.

True but I think I'll stay away from U.S. firmware until I find out what, if any, extra bloatware it contains. Also, isn't the U.S. generally slow to get updates due to its size? Is there a ranking somewhere that shows which regions update first and what the firmware variations are?
some websites are also stating US version will not come with fingerprint sensor.. What's wrong with Sony!

Another reason to stay away from the U.S. firmware when it's released
My sister bought me a Samsung Galaxy S9+ for my birthday but because she lives in America and I live in the UK I'm having issues with certain apps, especially Samsung Pay which won't allow me to use it as it only recognises me as being in America due to the Firmware restrictions, I can sign in fine, my account is registered in the UK but as I said, it's the Firmware restrictions so I can't use it at all.
I'm hoping someone knows if it's possible for me to replace the USA Firmware with a UK Firmware version? It's caused a lot of havoc in many different ways for me but I cherish the phone since it was a birthday present from the sweetest sister ever! ?? ♥
Congratulations on your new phone from your sister! Unfortunately if the model# is G965U or G965U1, you will be limited to US firmwares. The global model has a different processor and the firmwares are incompatible.

Thanks, I had a feeling it would be bad news but that's worse because it actually is an SM-G965U1 ?
She also sent me another phone, it's a BLU ENERGY XL, the OS is terrible on it, I don't suppose you have any recommendations for a firmware I can install via the SD Card on that do you? ??
Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it ??

You're welcome, but sorry for that news. I can't think of any other options for Samsung Pay either, since the US model doesn't currently have a root method. As for the BLU ENERGY, I don't know anything about it so the best I can recommend is look it up in the forums here on XDA, or maybe another similar site? Good luck!
