i just installed cm10 onto my phone and doing so it wiped all my contacts from my phone but before doing so i uploaded my contacts file to my computer through kies. but now kies wont recognise me phone it just says connecting the whole time. since the file is on my computer can i just copy and paste it by going through my computer and finding the right folder on my phone? if so what folder do i go to i cant seem to find it
Did you not save them to Google..?
nope i was never sure how to
When you're in Contacts, Menu->Merge with Google.
Not even.. if you add a contact to your phone it should just automatically sync with Google servers.
flash back to stock with triangle away, reinstall contacts, merge with Google, then flash to cm10 again

i see that its set to £1.49? what will it do exactly before i make the purchase and do i have to go find a stock rom? and is it easy to install? like just wipe/factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik then install from sd card?
actually scratch that i just tried opening the contacts file in kies and it appears to be blank but it was fine last time. only option is to acquire them all again over time
I found the solution just incase anyone wondered. i dont know if its CM or jellybean but i was able to use "people" to import my contacts by copying the file onto my internal storage (incase anyone else gets the same issue)

I have searched, without result, for an answer. I am hopeful someone here will be able to give some guidance.
A whle back, I took a screenshot of one of my homescreens, using shootme. Then uninstalled, as I learned how to do it using the SDK and adb. I now have an album within my gallery named screenshots. It contains the single screenshot I took with shootme. It is not located on my phone. I have wiped internal storage, flashed several ROMs since, and it still remains in my gallery.
After fresh install to any ROM, with or without wipe, it shows up. I have noticed that it will show up on ANY phone that I setup with my gmail credentials. I am assuming that this is stored somewhere on Google as part of a backup. I am frustrated, and have searched for how to change google backup settings, only to not find an answer.
Anybody have some insight as to how to remove this pesky pic?
Solved!!!
After some more digging around the interweb thingy, I found that it was Picasa Web Album that was storing that screenshot. I logged into my GMail account, then clicked on more, in the top left section of gmail, then clicked on photos. Sure enough there was my rogue screenshot!!! Clicked edit-> delete, and now it is gone from my vibrant!!!
what happened is when you install shoot me it creates a folder on your sdcard that it stores your screen shots in. when your phone 'wipes' to install a rom it wipes system data, not sdcard data so that folder is still on your sdcard and will continue to show up until you delete it.

It was Picasa Web, not the SD Card. Thanks for your input though.
Hey guys I have been trolling this forum for some very useful information, and it has helped me quite a bit, but on this one I am stuck. Every time I try and delete something on this phone (Samsung Vibrant) it just comes back. This was not my phone before, I am just trying to put it back to stock.
I have flashed the phone 3 times using odin, including using the re-partition option.
When I hook the phone up to the pc, and load update.zip into the root folder, and reboot into recovery mode, it says cannot find sd card/update.zip. Even when I go in and manually delete apps if I reboot the phone, they all just come back.
Am I missing something? part of me wants to say its something easy.. but I have searched and searched about this and found nothing. Is there a mod out there that does this? -Thanks
*edit* Oh, and it seems like any time I think I might get close, I get the little android and the triange w/ the exclamation point.
Bueller?
How are you deleting? What are you deleting? Why are you using odin to delete apps? Not enough info to help you.
Hi, I am just trying to totally wipe the phone back to stock, hence odin. I dont care about info being lost. But like I said.. if I go in and manage applications, and remove them manually, I restart the phone and like magic they are all back.. I am quite confused. I hook the phone up to the pc, open the phone and manually delete pics and songs that way.. unplug the phone from the pc, and its like i never did anything.

If you want to wipe the best thing to do is flash Eugene's Froyo that does not brick. That will get rid of EVERYTHING. From there flash JFD. That will give you the clean start you want.

Yeah, that is the problem. I already did that, and the stuff is still there. I did it 3 times. I flashed it with the 512 pit, did a re-partition and the JFD. Then went back and even updated it to the JI6 firmware, and loaded it with the stock kernel.
I'll help you out before you needlessly flash roms over and over and over.
Before you say, "WTF!!!! That doesn't answer my question" please read to the end.
1. As I understand your problem, you want to wide everything from your INTERNAL SD Card.
2. as such, The steps are as follows:
3. Go to settings.
4. Go to "SD Card and phone storage"
5. "Unmount phone storage"
6. "Format phone storage"
This is assuming that you are ALREADY on stock Rom.
If not, flash the stock first, then wipe your internal SD.
Remove your External SD and SIM card. *(Not required), but i'm paranoid, and this always helps me feel better on the off chance that something does happen while i'm wiping the internal SD.
GL
That was first thing I tried to do, sorry I didnt post that in OP. I tried to unmount and format using the in phone software. I have tried a hard reset using the button combinations on the phone. I have also done a factory format using the service code. All to no avail.
Thanks for the input.. believe me, if I could have avoided the time and hassle of reading about odin I would have. Odin was a last resort.
I dont know if this is helpful or not but after I format the internal sd.
Total Space: 13.18 GB
Free Space 12.31 GB
I am really beginning to think that the internal SD is broken/corrupted or something. As I said in the OP when I boot into recovery, it says it cannot find sdcard/update.zip. Furthermore, if I mount the usb as mass storage, and go into the folders and delete pictures/whatnot. Even if I unplug the phone from the computer, its as if I never did anything. The pictures will all still be there as if nothing happened. If I go in and manage apps, and remove them all one by one, then reboot the phone all the apps are there. These are all reasons why I think the internal storage is messed up.
I was/am quite confused. This is why I requested ideas from people smarter than me.. i.e you guys . Thanks for all the input this far, my OP was a little lacking I suppose.
Did you ever get problem resolved?

@jorsh :
I had the same problem with u. Can't delete few old files that stored in the internal SD. Also, I can't use update.zip in the recovery mode. It says "cannot find sdcard/update.zip.
My phone also can't play MP3 file or 3GP file that transfered from other phone / PC.
Anyone can help us ?
How are you deleting the files?
What are you running?
the update.zip, are you guys talking about rooting, or clockwork recovery?
Sorry, thanksgiving was preventing me from following the thread. The problem is still unresolved. I was trying the update.zip in recovery mode, as far as I know there is no clockwork on the phone. I thought the update.zip was just a recovery image that the phone used as a basis for restoring the phone.

I have tried deleting files a few different ways.
Odin, directly via pc with usb mount, and using the software on the phone itself, and tried using factory formats/resets hard and soft.
What do you mean by what am I running?
i just buy a used vibrant. There are some photos & files in the internal memory. I can erase it with file manager, but when I restart the phone, those photos & files appear again.
Same thing with with the gmail account. This gmail account is sign up by previous user. I can't remove this account.
I already try using "factory reset", but it's useless. Those photos & gmail account still in my phone.
I'm running in 2.1 T959UVJI2
about the update.zip, I'm using for rooting. I can't root the phone too. I'm using the file "SGH-959 Root Update.zip" then rename it to "update.zip"
I put this update.zip that the root folder of my internal SD. Bad thing is, this file is gone when I restart my phone (turn off then turn on). So, when I goes to recovery mode, it always said : cannot find sd card/update.zip
anybody can help me ? pleaseeee. So frustated >.<
Yeah that sounds pretty much exactly like my problems.
Perhaps people are having a hard time helping because we cant determine what you are trying to do....
first, yes, there is a clockwork recovery... download rom manager from the market.
there are going to be folders on the internal memory you can not remove because the OS puts them there.
could you please say exactly what you want to do???
I am just trying to delete everything and basically restore the phone back to factory. But it seems like the normal ways of doing that are not working.
Use ODIN to go to stock ji6 or jk2. I have a guide in my signature
Once you reboot mount the internal memory and format it. Settings > sd card and phone storage

As far as I know, you just setup your google account, then turn on automatic sync. Give it time to work.

I already have a Gmail account..but after I flashed cm7 my phone is not syncing ..??? Why
Do you have Titanium Backup? They can be transferred that way too since yours aren't syncing for whatever reason. Never had that problem personally. When you activated the phone again after the flash did you select the box during setup that says restore from google?
I'm not sure if I did that after I flashed...I do have titanium back up...but don't know where to find the contacts file to. Restore back to my phone...looked through the entire program and can't find it..??help would be greatly appreciated....!!

I am having the same issue with the contacts. I was never given the option to restore my contacts. After I added my Gmail account it took me directly to the play store.

I already posted in your other thread. But I'll say it again here too. It sounds like you didnt flash the gapps zip along with CM7. If you didnt do that, get the zip file and flash it in recovery. And if you havent already, use the patched CM7 recovery in that thread as well. Not the one you used to flash CM7.
Sign into gmail on a PC and see if your contacts are still in there.

if you go to contacts press menu button
should be a import/export option select export to sd card/storage
should be save as a .vcf file
connect phone to pc
open gmail on pc go to contacts more/import
navagate to your mot sdcard, select .vcf file
then retry syncing
Great

So I was having some issues with my S3. Boiled down to a factory data reset. Used TiBu to back everything up. For some reason decided to re-backup a game cause I wasn't sure if it had been initially. Used Astro for all of this. Had the new game backup on the internal, moved the whole folder (with just the game files in it) to the SD card and merged it with the similarly named folder on my SD card. Popped the SD card out, did the FDR. And here's where everything went wrong.
Firstly the message "Unfortunately, Messages has stopped working" appears every time I start my phone and the Messages app freezes the phone whenever opened, this has caused me to have to get a replacement phone. But the main issue was when I opened TiBu to restore, and none of my backups were there, nor were they on the card itself anymore.
Somehow they were deleted or corrupted or something when I merged the two folders. So I found a data recovery program which was able to find all of the "com.android" blah blah files from the back up. I restored a few of them to test it out, put them back on my phone, I can see them in Astro, but no app installer will detect them. Wtf?? So close...
I was devastated with this loss, so much data in there. So when this program was able to find it all again, a sparkle of hope appeared. Please tell me I'm just missing some crucial little step here, the files look exactly like the original backup files. Same size, combination of numbers, everything. Non-Market Installation is checked and I'm rooted on stock. Please someone be my savior!!
well..... you can go back completely to square one by flashing a stock firmware you can get them from sammobile.com

Hm, well your response is much appreciated. However, that's pretty much the exact opposite of what I want to do. I'm trying to restore .apk files that I can see in Astro but AppInstaller won't detect, not flash back to stock.
Thanks anyways...
So, my x10 crashed 2 months ago and I'm really eager to recover the contacts from the phones memory. Have tried searching for a way to do this but so far I haven't. The phone is stuck in a reboot loop, but I hope the data is still there to be recovered somehow. The only backup I have is a 5month+ old .sbf file, and I'm having trouble restoring the contacts from that on my new phone.
I KNOW now, that I maybe should have backed up more frequently to google (last done in december 2011..) but the sbf file is what i have that is recent. Any suggestions/threads/tools for this?

If your phone is backed up with your google play account then you should just use the email in another phone and you will restore your contacts if not then not so likely

Looking for a way to extract the user data partion from the phone
If You can access the phones memory go to data>data folder and search for the phone folder. There should be a whole database of Your contacts

I hope You have root and USB debugging enabled.
If so, You can use my program to connect the phone in xrecovery mode and access the system files.
If You don't have root, You can try to root it, install good kernel (like doomkernel), backup Your current os, flash new ROM and restore the data.
Here's how to root the phone: http://adfoc.us/4207223735421
