I had Viper 1.0.1 working. It wasn't broke but I tried to put Viper 1.1.0 on the phone. I keep getting the message "Unfortunately system UI has stopped " I have no status bar and no pull down for notifications.
I have dirty flashed, clean flashed, tried different kernels, fixed permissions, different download.
Any ideas?????
I have restored the previous version for the time being.
TIA
Dave
I had the same problem, and couldn't fix it until I updated to the latest version of CWM recovery. Even if you think that you have the latest version, find the thread for it and re-flash it anyway. Then, do a FULL wipe, install Viper, then install the suggested kernel and see if it works, only after that, then try other kernels if you want to.

you need to be sure to do a full wipe, because that is what happens when you dont

I will switch recovery to CWM, even though I don't like it, even from T'bolt days. I DO realize that the recovery will affect the Rom installs

Overnight I decided a complete wipe was in order. I also noticed something with the quick settings and notifications that is different. The quick settings scroll across the top of the notification menu and the page is skittish.
Time to back up all storage items.
Thanks for the responses.

If this solves the problem, please post back. I've seen two instances of it so far (one from twrp, one an early version of cwm) and I'm interested to see if these were isolated events or actual problems with the recoveries.

I installed the latest version of CWM and reflashed Viper. So far all looks good. Also one other issue has cleared up, unmounting the USB drive no longer causes apps to stop. The only other change I made was from ES File explorer to Root Explorer.
The recovery causing issues also surfaced with the Thunderbolts. CWM was the villan in those instances.:fingers-crossed:
So I flashed the stock JB ROM for the AT&T variant. Now, whenever I try to do pretty much anything I get a popup saying "Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped." I was going to flash back to stock using the stock ROM that's posted in the development forum but the phone also won't go into media sync mode when connected to my computer (it did before flashing).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Which ROM specifically? There were some that had this issue (one of the Korean and one of the Canadian (e973 based) that were changed for the AT&T version had this issue. When you restored your apps did you restore data too? Several of the ROM's have this issue when data is included. If you restored data, then reflash the ROM and restore the apps without data.
The SnowJB ROM is the most stable 4.x rom that has all critical features (camera, GPS, etc). If you didn't flash it, you may want to give it a try.
Edit: regarding media sync, do you mean MTP? If you can't connect MTP can you connect PC software or Camera (PTP)? If those don't work then download the ROM via wifi. If nothing else, go to original development and download the CM or CFX (SR 14 or 15) roms. They are much smaller than the 4.1.2 ROM's (just under 200MB), so they'll transfer quickly via wifi (or your data plan and won't kill you plan limits, should you go the data plan root). They JB 4.2.2 and work great, but don't have working camera or GPS, so many people can't use them as DD's. They should allow you to connect MTP so you can copy a different 4.1.2 ROM to you device.

Yes, I do mean MTP. I actually just tried to use PC software and camera with no luck. I tried wiping everything, reflashing the ROM and applying the permission fixes in CWM but the errors still occur.
I'm trying to grab CFX via wifi now. Thanks for the help!

Some other tricks that fixed similar issues for others:
1) use a different USB port
2) use a different USB to micro cable
3) reboot PC/Laptop (standard windows fix is to reboot 3 times, to see if it fixes the prob, before calling their helpless desk). I had to do this when I disconnected the phone without switching to charge only. I seem to recall that it took 2 reboots to finally get everything reset, so Windows would recognize the device was connected.

I actually tried three different cables and two different machines in completely separate locations but the problem persisted throughout all. I did try rebooting twice last night. Didn't go for a third.
I finally got CFX on it this morning and the phone was recognized by the computer immediately. I'm going to flash SnowJB onto it to see if the same thing happens.
Thanks for the help!
I left my phone on the counter near the dish drainer and smoked the usb/mhl port. Another time, I filled the thing with crushed banana. I can charge the battery using an external charger (hasn't burned my house down yet), but can't use the usb port at all. So I set the phone aside for a while.
S-On, rooted, was running Scrosler's Cleanrom DE 1.4. I got tired of my wife's iPhone 4 and started using the ReZound again recently, but got myself into trouble flashing the clockworkmod recovery over my AmonRA and can't go back. I'm stuck on CarbonROM (used HTCDumlock) with no stability unless wifi and mobile data are disabled.
Is it possible to get AmonRA back (or at least restore the nandroid I made with AmonRA) without a usb? What about S-Off without any USB connection?

Kind of a pickle without a working USB port...
You can not gain S-OFF without a working USB connection using any known (Juopunutbear, rumrunner, or firewater) S-OFF method, sorry. Although JTAG may be a possibility.
If Carbon is running and root is working, you could use Goo Manager to install TWRP, it has HTC Dumlock built in, and you could flash in Evervolv or something else more stable (later incarnations of Carbon caused me lots of issues as well). The backups are not compatible between Amon Ra, CWM, and TWRP though.
As far as getting Amon Ra installed without a working USB connection, it MIGHT be possible, but it is over my head... The real issue would be even if you did get it back on and restored your nandroid, being S-ON means you still need to flash your boot.img manually, even from a nandroid restore, which would be another issue altogether and probably highly difficult (if possible at all).
Although, if we are talking water damage and possible banana damage (did I really just type that?!?!) a different ROM may or may not help, this could all be a exercise in futility that one wrong move could brick you.
Hmmm. I did have the phone working well with CleanROM DE, so I know it's at least worth trying. I'm also not afraid of a brick seeing as what I have now is basically no better. Good point about the boot.img. I hadn't thought of that.
Carbon is working and moderately stable when wifi and mobile data are off. When I enable wifi, I tend to go into a boot cycle with 1-2s before reboot to disable it again. When enabling mobile data, I get frequent popups saying something like android.com.phone stopped working, and not data anyways. I do have a working recovery right now in CWM (up to date non-touch). But, I don't think that has HTCDumlock built in.

Have you tried just booting into CWM, wiping everything except external SD twice, and reflashing Carbon again, the same one so you don't have to try to flash the kernel?
Probably too late now but did you try drying it out via the bag of rice trick?
I found this nice app for getting files on and off via wifi, not doing you much good if your wifi makes you bootloop though.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dmitril.droidoverwifi
At this point, an SDcard reader would be my investment and store your backups on the internal SDcard. This would allow you to use PH98IMG's. As far as your mobile data and wifi is concerned. It really sounds like you havent flashed the boot.img matched with the rom. If you still have the rom zip about place it on your external sdcard while in rom in a folder called lunar. Run sysrw in terminal emulator then invoke a script named "menu". Choose option 4, then choose the SAME zip you flashed. You might auto-reboot to recovery, just reboot back to system without any changes.
Thanks. I got wifii to run stable. Did a couple more wipes and re-flashed. ES file explorer disappeared, so maybe my previous wipes were insufficient. Also changed from "Launcher" to "Trebuchet", so a couple variables working together. Either way I flashed TWRP now, so I have HTCDumlock again.
Snuzzo, I'll try and follow your steps to see if that fixes mobile data. Not working right now with mobile roaming enabled, LTE or 3G. I can place calls now, though!
EDIT:: ran the Lunar Menu script and flashed the boot.img (seemed successful). wifi is stable, but no data.
At least you now know how to use LunarMenu and can flash a ROM using that instead also with using dumlock. Option 4 reboots you into recovery, let's you do your normal wipes which you then flash the matching ROM zip. Dumlock basically flashes recovery to your boot partition so to flash a rom , you would be flashing boot partition twice. My implementation flashes it only once.

You guys have been a great help. Thanks a lot
It seems my data connectivity issue is unrelated to the ROM i'm using. I must have caused it while tinkering or trying to update firmware. Now I'm on Evervolv with the same issues. Both Carbon and Evervolv are mostly stable with cell signal for calls and wifi, but no mobile data.
TWRP 2.6.3.0
HBOOT 2.21.0000
Radio 1.22.10.0310r/1.22.10.0308r
Is there something I can flash via a PH98IMG.zip that might fix this issue? Or maybe it's an issue with Verizon that they could fix?
I've a feeling it isn't your own Rez. I have a rom cooked with updsated Telephony. If things go right, release is imminent and very soon. No eta promised tho.

Would like some help. I have flashed CM 11 and can't make calls. It says mobile network not available. Tried flashing AOKP rom as well and same thing. Mobile data works fine, although i have gotten a popup twice that says 'Google Play Services not supported by your device, please contact your manufacturer' (no noticible issues from this, google stuff i've tried so far works). I have included a screenshot so you can see my baseband and rom version, etc.
Now, i had a great deal of trouble getting a rom flashed to start with, CWM put me into a bootloop and TWRP wouldn't flash anything because it said it couldn't mount /storage when i tried. Used Philz advanced CWM (love it btw, will be using it from now on). Still wouldnt flash the hltespr specific CM11 version so had to use the unified hlte version (it gave me the status 7 asserts issue, but editing the asserts out just gave me a bad file error when flashing). I wiped data/cache/dalvik between each flashing. I don't know if any of that would have bearing on this problem, just including any details i can. Any advice?

Have you upgraded your bootloader to NH7? I know most of the newly-updated CM-based ROMs require you to be on NH7 before flashing. That's most-likely why you weren't able to flash the htlespr ROMs. The unified ROMs no longer include the correct APNs for Sprint, so that's why you don't get service on it. I don't know why mobile data works on it.

No, didnt realize that i needed to do that. I'll do some research on it because i don't have any idea how to update the bootloader. If you have a link to a good tutorial that would be wonderful! Thanks!
Ok so i tried that, found this tutorial, followed it, no luck. Tried full wipe/reset after that to see if it would let me install the hltespr versions, still no dice. Same situation, mobile data works, calls don't. Will have to wait till daylight to try texting so i don't wake anyone up but i suspect that texting won't work either. Has anyone experienced this and fixed it? Lol i really didn't drop $100 on a phone to be saddled with all the Samsung and Sprint baloney that it comes with, don't wanna unroot....

Sorry, I typically don't have access to XDA forums on the weekend, so couldn't answer your question till now.
You flashed only the baseband/modem, not the Bootloader. If you want to update the Bootloader, you need to use ODIN to flash the Complete OTA NH7 Update.
In order to update the Bootloader, you need to make sure that you use the PC ODIN (not the mobile one) and that you completely power off the phone before you enter download mode (don't access download mode by using the extended power menu when shutting down the phone). I don't think you need to do the battery pull that Freeza had in his instructions (I didn't do it when I ODIN-flashed the NH7 OTA update), but it wouldn't hurt to do it.
Thanks for that, I will try it as soon as I get home tonight! The next thing I had decided to try was to unroot, to back to stock, then try flashing that before I start with the custom recovery and ROM. Do you think I should do that first before doing the whole thing or could that work just flashing that with my phone as-is?

Well, I always recommend a full wipe (data, system, cache, dalvik) when flashing ROMs. I haven't wiped my internal storage or external storage since I got the phone, so that's not really necessary.
I don't think that unrooting your current ROM is necessary. Flashing the ODIN OTA update will automatically remove root access, so that's not an issue. Here's the steps I took when I updated to NH7 and installed my current ROM (see my sig):
Make a Nandroid backup.
I always do this just so I have a "record" of what I left behind. It also allows me to have all of my app data that I can restore via Titanium Backup (you have to buy the Pro version in order to restore specific apps from a Nandroid backup). I always store a copy on my ext. storage and on dropbox.
Do a full wipe
As I mentioned above, I always wipe data, system, and the caches when flashing ROMs. While I have to take some time to get the new ROM exactly as I like it, it minimizes any potential FCs and errors that some people get when dirty flashing.
Install NH7 all-in-one via ODIN
I installed the NH7 via ODIN. Please note that this is the fully stock, unrooted ROM and will also install the stock recovery.
Let the phone boot and connect to Sprint. Update Profile and PRL.
I do this periodically whenever I go back to stock (from AOSP). I rarely have connection issues, but updating the PRL an profile can help with those.
Install a custom recovery using ODIN.
My recovery of choice is TWRP, but others have found just as much success with CWM and Philz. Just make sure that you're installing the correct version of the recovery (4.4.X version, not the 4.2.X version). I always reboot to the main system after installing a recovery, but that's up to you. In the rest of this post, I'll say "TWRP," but I really mean "custom recovery."
[OPTIONAL] Make a Nandroid backup of the stock ROM
I always do this, but I recognize that it's not necessary, especially since we can just ODIN back to this image at any time. I just like having the option of having a stock backup on the device (in case catastrophe strikes while I'm away from a computer).
Use TWRP to flash your AOSP ROM of choice.
If you haven't installed any apps or messed around with the settings, you shouldn't have to wipe before flashing, but (in case you haven't noticed by now), I tend to err on the side of caution, specifically: wiping everything (data, system, and the caches) before I flash anything.
Set up the ROM how you like it and [OPTIONAL] make one last Nandroid Backup
Whenever I set up a new ROM to the exact way I like it (statusbar settings, accounts set up, apps installed and configured, etc), I make a nandroid backup of my device. This allows me to go back to that "fresh" image whenever something happens to the device and I don't have to muddle around fixing those minor tweaks. Again, I tend to err on the side of wiping the phone too often and taking too many backups, but I've rarely had issues with my phone and ROMs because of it (to the point where I can spend most of my XDA time helping others with their phones), so it might be prudent to follow the advice.
Anyways, that's how I upgraded to NH7 and installed a custom ROM. Others may take a less conservative approach and you're welcome to adjust any of the optional steps.
Hope this helps!

OK, did all that successfully, when it went back to stock stiil had the same issue. Mobile data functions, mobile network for calls/SMS doesn't. Did the whole update prl/profile and even tried reactivating from settings, still nothing. Was able to install custom recovery (Philz) and the hltespr CM11 variant instead of the unified generic version. Still has the same problem, mobile network not available. Everything else works perfectly. I did verify in settings that it still wound up as the NH7 after everything I did. Note I did a full reset before each thing that got flashed in this process, and one more for good measure after. Let it boot to the system between steps too.
Lol I've been rooting and switching between ROMs for years and have never encountered anything like this. I'm stumped....

I have the same problem on a Samsung Mega. LTE and 3G data work but phone won't dial if LTE is active. It WILL voice dial if only 3G is active. Sprint. CM11.
I had this problem after flashing ROMs as well, but went into Settings>Connections>More Networks>Mobile Networks>Network Mode and selected LTE/CDMA....no network had been selected. That fixed me right up. Weird part is, I could still avcess the web without WiFi....but couldn't make calls or ise my bluetooth headset until I had performed the above steps. Hope that helps.

Hey, I am using a redmi note 4 Snapdragon version, and I installed custom rom on my device, the installation was successful but hardware components are not accessible to me now.Like, wifi, bluetooth is not turning on, camera app is not present and even flashlight icon in notification shade is blurred out.
I installed resurrection remix and aex ROMs,I know they are fine cause i have installed them before(same versions) in the same phone, but now they are showing problems. And gapps are not installing either twrp recovery shows corrupt file even though its not for sure.
I think i messed up while wiping data ,I wiped the internal storage and formatted the phone too, that is the only thing i did that was different this time.
Please help if there is a link to any thing that i deleted and need to replace please provide that,
Thank You

Weird. First I would make sure that the device indeed doesn't charge in system (install Ampere app, or use a USB power meter if you have one) - otherwise it might be a UI problem. Other than that, if that's indeed the case I would do a clean reflash, starting with flashing a latest stable MIUI in fastboot, then recovery again, factory reset (DONT format system) and ROM (which one are you using?) again. Maybe others could chime in. Good luck!
