Not sure if my devices is refurbished or defunct, but when i press firmly on the sides of the INC 4g, I get a similar ripple effect like when you press on your LCD monitor too hard.
I came from the Inc 2 and the build quality on that device, i would have to say is a little bit better than the 4g. Anyone else experiencing this or is my device just faulty?
Mine does that too

It just says something about the build quality if pushing on certain area of the phone have adverse effects. That shouldn't happen

I have this same problem. After removing my back to insert my microSD card and reattaching the back, the case no longer closes completely, with casing immediately on the bottom of the volume rocker not latching on properly. In attempting to make it, I pressed firmly on the edge and it made my screen ripple slightly for a moment.
My EVO4G would ripple when I squeezed the sides. It was one of those thing you found out about through other people complaining. Yet after a while I never even noticed that anymore. I don't think I ever needed to squeeze a phone that hard either.
Just remember. Cell phones are like cars. They used to build them well with no features, now they build them cheap with the works.
Speaking of build quality....my phone is barely 3 days old...dropped it a short distance..way shorter than more of the hundred plus times I dropped my inc 2...and the damn screen shattered.....wtf..
Sent from my ADR6410LVW using xda app-developers app
It's not necessarily how far you drop it (although there is a point at which height just overcomes everything, call it terminal velocity hehe) but it's where it hits. Tempered glass is extremely strong, but it's also tempered. An extremely light tap from just the right direction will cause it to shatter.
A perfect example of this was a gas station I worked at back in college. The glass they have that protects the cashier from an explosion is about 3 inch thick tempered glass. It would withstand an explosion of huge magnitude. I watched them replace that pane of glass one day, when they removed it, they loaded it into the back of a truck and gave it a slight rap on the corner with a hammer and it shattered in the bed of the truck. They did this intentionally by the way

Take some black electrical tape, cut a strips about 1 inch long and about 2-4 mm wide. You will want to put them under the lip of the back case, adhesive side in, on the middle left, upper right(above the antenna not on them), top and bottom. if you cut them thin enough the case will snap back on and never creak,
I had todo this on my rezound too, they made these backs really flimsy to the point where they eventually won't snap back together.

If you are talking about the glue underneath the bezel of the glass you might wanna try heating it up with a hairdryer or something and then just pressing and holding it down for a while. Best way is on a flat surface and use a towel or your shirt or something to press down with.
I had this issue with the "frame" of my phone coming free on one side. I bit the bullet and just used normal super glue, applied a couple of small dots from behind and then "clamped" by simply tying some string around the phone.
Make sure you have something to wipe up any excess, you don't want any on you screen!
So far it appears to be working for me.

Superglue or epoxy should work. Put a rubber case on after to protect and hold it in place

It is actually very sturdily built. I got a door slammed on my hand (which was holding the phone) and I dropped it onto asphalt from a height of about 6 feet. It landed almost completely flat with the glass facing down. Just bad luck on my part. I ordered a case for it, but it hadn't arrived yet. The back of the phone is covered in a silicone that is very grippy. I will say the glass on the front is EXTREMELY slick. It curves to the edges so there is no plastic or metal of any sort on the front panel. Its solid glass. When I set it on top of my closed laptop while face down it will gradually slide off even though the incline is just a few degrees away from perpendicular. I don't consider this to be an issue with build quality whatsoever. The only reason I consider it strange is because there is a notification light on the back, but I dont trust it to sit facedown anywhere due to fears that it will slide off just about any surface that isnt 110% flat. It feels better under my thumbs than any other phone I have ever had and the screen seems to resist getting covered in fingerprint smears. Its very stylish and looks gorgeous, just something to be aware of.

Indeed, mine progressed today to the point the screen does not register any input. I can't wait for my replacement to arrive, my old 3GS is exceptionally painful to use.
I've a chip in the plastic next to the volume rocker, and a small split where the glass casing and sides meet. Fixed by cheap case.

Agree with the others here. The phone is just too damn slick to put a case on, for me at least. I love a naked phone and will take the chance. However I try to be extremely concious and careful when taking it in and out of my pocket. If its not in there then its on my desk nice and flat nowhere near an edge lol.
I'm not gonna push my luck though. Glass back and glass front? I feel like if it hit the ground in any way shape or form its gonna break. Super slick phone but super delicate. However I wouldnt have it any other way.

I don't consider this good advice. My phone slipped out of my jacket pocket as I was taking it off and it hit the ground with a bottom corner which sent an arched crack up the bottom portion of my phone in the glass. It's not shattered or falling out of the phone, but it's still fragile.

So I'm at the gym today and I forgot my armband at home. I decide my HTC One will be fine in it's HTC flip case with no screen protector.
At the Golds there is a upper level with treadmills and a little bit of walk space behind the treadmill. The all behind the treadmill is actually glass inclosing the indoor pool. The floor also has a gap between it and the glass wall which things like phones can easily fall down. ...
So I am on the treadmill. I have the phone in case on the little ledge that can hold a water bottle, keys, etc... I have my music playing through headphones. Coming up to the end of my run I always bring it up to speed 9 for a minute. Well as I'm sprinting the headphone cord gets in the path of my right arm and yep as I pull back. So comes the phone.
Fall 1--- From the treadmill ledge to the belt going at speed 9.. as it falls and the case and headphones and phone depart from my possetion.
Fall 2--- the speed of the moving treadmill launches the phone off the treadmill to the glass wall behind me.
Fall 3 --- bounce from the glass to the ledge
Fall 4--- ( should have ended this phones life ) falls then from the ledge down tto the second floor hardwood were people are walking.
So I tell myself .. well that's the end of this phone. .. I come back up from bending over to pick up the case after the treadmill has stopped. I realize everyone in the pool is now looking up at me like what the help was that loud bang into the glass. A guy from downstairs is yelling at me saying YO it's down here !
As I take my walk if shame with the whole gym looking at me. A woman is walking towards me with my uncased phone it her palms like she was holding out a lifeless thing. She actually had the look in her eyes that she felt bad for me.
I take it from her and press the power button...
The screen came on ! No cracks not a scratch on the screen. !! I gave it a quick look over and the people downstairs were like "wow. You are lucky".
I plug my headphones in and get back on the treadmill to hide my embarrassment. I'm now looking at it in my car and there is one small scuff on the aluminum Shi y bezel that stands out. Otherwise there is nothing wrong with it.
Of course I will have to check to ensure it's charging still and the ir blaster still works.
But either I'm super lucky ... Or this phone is nearly indestructable....

Yea this phone is quite indestructible for a premium built device. I also dropped mine on my treadmill at home although I wasn't at that high of a speed, and yesterday I dropped it on the floor at Best Buy while looking at headphones. All this without a case on. Not one scratch or mark anywhere on the phone. I do have a screen protector on it.

Well some of you probably waiting for this.
To keep it short:
Back drop - OK
Side drop - Fatal
Probably due to thin bezel, but we all know the risk when we brought this phone right?
yeah, looks like that thin bezel doesn't fare well on accidental drops..
thats why i ordered my Spigen Slim Armor for good reason..
Pretty much any phone will shatter the display if it lands on the side or bottom, most if not all phone are edge to edge glass these days which doesn't help.
Hmm think it does fairly poorly. Note 3 only cracked on direct drop, not from corner hit.
Also it stops working early. This is definitely not a rugged phone.

This is totally random. 100%. And these phones aren't made to be dropped from those heights either. If you are an bad user, you buy something thats made to take a few hits. Not phones like these, these should be used with care, not childish or stupid actions.

I think the ground bashed the phone enough that he didn't have to.
There is nothing scientific to it people. Even with all the camera angles you guys mentioned. Someone will still cry foul when it doesn't fall exactly right.
This phone looks fragile enough for it to be believed that it will break on the first fall.

Almost any phone if it hits just right will shatter. Its all about force. Hitting it on the corner or a small area will produce more force as its not distributed, like laying on a bed of nails as opposed to stepping on a single nail. These are all glass screens, gorilla or not. Never seen a phone that I cant find one drop test where the screen doesnt have some damage...so lets see what flexible "non-glass" displays can do...

Why? I don't buy phones based on how they perform in drop tests. Just saying what I saw

Exactly, if I was going to buy a phone based on the drop test I would still have a Nokia 3310.

If you consider life an extended drop test, my RAZR has survived amazingly well. To be honest, I don't know how the screen hasn't been broken. I remember when I first got it, I was afraid it would break easily from flexing because it was so thin. It never did. I even started throwing it 10 ft. in the air and letting it land on concrete and asphalt just so I could rub it into my friend's faces that used iPhones. lol, I'm such a jerk.

Pretty much any phone will shatter the display if it lands on the side or bottom, most if not all phone are edge to edge glass these days which doesn't help.

I gotta say my original Droid Razr seems to be indestructible. Dropped it many times and it only suffered minor scuffs.
I dropped my LG G2 today, I was trying to put it in my coat pocket and missed, so it fell on the floor from waist height and the quick view case came off but no scratch or crack to be found!
Lucky this time...
