Xperia S EP850 Fast Charger - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

This is a question for those of you who got the EP850 fast charger rather than the normal EP800 charger in your Sony Xperia S box. How long does it take to charge from 0-100%?
Using the EP800 it takes me 2 and a half hours from flat to full.
Thanks.

It depends; if you don't use the phone while charging, it sometimes can be done in about 1.5 hours
Maybe even faster, but I'm not sure about that
I go one with my SxS here in Holland

Yeah its damn fast, I go from 10 percent to full in about an hour.

An hour or two, no more.

I go 1hour 30min from 5% to 95%(I don't charge it more "battery calibration") with ep800

If anyone is thinking of forking out about £30 on the 850 charger don't bother....try this instead:
Charger:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UK-3-Pin-AC-Mains-to-2A-USB-Power-Wall-Adapter-Adaptor-Plug-Charger-240v-13A-CE-/330753376119?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Other&hash=item4d026fff77
Along with this cable:
http://dx.com/p/usb-data-charging-extension-cable-for-samsung-p1000-black-91141
So for about £5.50 you have a faster charger compared to the 850 for a quarter of the price! full charge in about 70 mins!

Have you test it? Because in charger driver in xperia s source code, it seems, sony limit the amount ampere upto 1.5A. I don't know if that setting affect how fast the charging @ 2A.

Yea i remember testing it about 2 months ago when i got charger and cable it was peaking at around 1550mA it did not hit the 2A mark but still it was a cheap setup to achive this compared to buying the sony 850, so i thought id share with ye all

Thanks Damoege, I may very well get that charger/cable that you linked to. How would I connect that cable to the phone? There doesn't seem to be the right connector.

The cable from DX is a male / female usb charge cable which means the male usb goes into the phone charger and leaves the female side of the usb cable to take your original sony charge/data cable. Now the DX cable has bridged connectors to alow charge only which carries through on the sony cable and into your phone therefore fast charge
Last nite i orded one of these little adapters to use instead of sony cable to see if i can get more juice into the phone
Micro usb adaptor
I know people say that 0.5m length of Sony cable will not affect charging as in resistance wise but i have a feeling it does and i wont be happy until i try out the adaptor, I'll let ye know how it goes when it arrives from China in 3 weeks time

Cool, what was the result?

I use the sony camera charger I have whose output is 1.5 a..
Takes it from 15 to full in 40 mins.. Get a bit hot though while charging..!!

Just to let ye all know the micro usb adaptor works too....i was right about the resistance...abot 5 mins faster charging

How long does it take your JetStream to fully charge?

Just wondering, I bought two JetStreams last week and both of them take a while to charge; I would say over 8 hours. My previous tablet would get fully charged in less than 4 hours.
I love this tablet and besides the usb port and audio jack placement that's the only other thing that's bothering me at the moment.

Using the 9V charger that has been provided by HTC, I can charge my tablet in around 3-4 hours - not sure though - will clock it next time I charge.
However if you use a 5V charger which is used by other phones, it will surely take longer.

That's what I suspected, I bought these tablets on ebay and they both came with the smaller 5V chargers. Just wanted to double check, thanks for the reply.
Yea I got a small charger as well from that ebay sale. Using my iPad charger(switched the usb cable). What's weird is after a few minutes on 100% the second I unplugged it could go down to 9x%. I had to leave it for a bit longer for the charge to stick to 100% unplugged.
Well I have tried around 4 or 5 different chargers and with all of them it's taking over 8 hours to fully charge my battery. I don't know what's the deal with this tablet, I bought the OEM genuine charger from eBay and even though it's bigger than the one that came with the device - which is a phone charger; the output voltage is the same 5V.
I tried switching the cable to my girlfriend's iPad charger and it's still taking a while; it's starting to annoy me. Battery life hasn't been an issue though, it lasts over 24 hrs under moderate use - netflix, web browsing, emails, eBook reading...etc. So I don't think it's a bad battery because it holds a charge just fine, it just takes too damn long.
Any ideas, comments or suggestions?
Its not the voltage of the adapter but the output amperage that matters.
The small adapter that came with my ebay JetStream only supplies 200 milliamps (mA) and can take 2 nights to charge fully (i.e., overnight will only charge it to 60%-70%).
As a point of reference, the adapter for my Bluetooth headset is 180 mA.
My BlackBerry charger, which charges my JetStream in a several hours, has an output of 700 mA. Actually, I have never timed it, but it does not take over night to fully charge it.
The AT&T site has a HTC wall charger for the JetStream - does anyone know what the output amperage of the HTC wall charger?
I Have the ATT power cord.
Output 9V, 1.67A
Full charge for me is approx 3 hours, maybe a little more but i've only let my tablet go almost to 0 once.
Hope this helps, Charles
My girlfriend's ipad charger outputs 5v, 2.1A and it still takes a while to charge with that one. All my other chargers are also 5v so i guess im gonna have to get a 9v one to see if i notice any improvement in charging time.

It will take about 4 x longer than the OEM for the same amount of charge.
If you operate the Flyer while connected, it might not charge at all, but will discharge at a slower rate.

Yes,your 100% correct. Don't know why the eBay company that shipped these all in the HTC box, didn't put the original charger. I think I'll write to them, although it may not help any.

Xperia cradle and 10% battery issue

Hello
For the first time I let my XTZ drop below 40% battery.
I chargy only with the Sony's cradle since I don't really carry it around.
I get to putting it on charge when it reached 10% battery, but few secconds after it showed charge animation a pop up appeared that battery is low and should be charged. This kept showing every few secconds.
It looked as the charger contacts where not making good connection. So I tried moving it around, checked the contact pins and the lever if it pulls them out and springs where working. It all seamed to work ok. It was late and I had it wet 3-4 hours ago so I just left it off the dock till morning.
When I got up I tried to put it to charge again, but same buggy pop up started to appear...
Now I left to work, set sound off and left it to charge with hopes above 10% it will be ok...
Anyone else experienced this?

Well I have my problem solved lol.
As engineer I don't usually read everything about the spec...
So the charger I used was rated at 2A, industrial quality mind you, while the cradle is actually rated at 1.8A input and 1.8a output...
I tought the cradle is just two wires and some weights, but seems to be more than this.
Anyway the XTZ started to charge fine with the Sony charger at 1.5A.
The tablet also charges faster with the 2A charger, but only from the USB.

I don't think it's the rating of the charger - I had just posted this in the "battery broken?" thread in this forum :

Charged mine for a while this morning in the Sony dock with power on, wifi on, screen off. Like others, I use an iPad charger (2.1A).
The battery went from 11% to 55% in about 2 hours, so about 22% per hour - though I think it slows down as the % gets higher.

I've been using an iPad charger for the last 6 weeks to charge my SXTZ either directly through the USB port or "indirectly" through the Sony docking cradle. I've had no problems - as you can see from the above quote.
By the way (not that it matters) I'm an engineer (electronic) too.

DK30 Charging rate?

OK does anyone know if the charging rate of the official DK30 charging dock is the same as the standard mirco usb charging rate.
I bought a magnetic cable from DX box and I've also tried a couple of mico usb magnetic adaptors and they are terrible.
The micro usb will normally charge my phone completely in 2 hours, literally I can have it connected using the cheep magnetic connector all day in work and it will only gain 30-40%
Im thinking its got to be easier just to buy the official dock, but I want to check first that the charging is as fast and normal micro usb. :good:
I have the DK30, and it charges incredible quick. From 5 - 50% goes like "that", while 50% is a little slower. But it charges the whole battery in like 2 hours.

Thats good to know... I did try removing my TPU case using the cheep connectors the charging rate jumped by about 200mA so it is no doubt partly due to a poor connection with the TPU case on.. I may have to cut out the case a bit I suppose..
Any chance you can install this current widget app as see what it brings back as the charging rate of the dock mate..
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.manor.currentwidget&hl=en
It shows net charging rate I think... If you leave it running for a min or two with the screen off and then switch screen on it should show the true charging rate.
I get the following results, all using the stock sony charger.
1070mA with the micro usb.
300mA with the dx-box magnetic cable
400mA with the micro usb magnetic adaptor
I just want to make sure there isn't something kernel ralated thats slowing the magnetic charging rate. I'll just get the official Sony one then
Sure, i can do that, but i'm at work right now, so i won't be able to do it until later

i originally purchased the dk30 and removed the ec21 cable from it and it used t work pretty good. i purchased a couple knockoff ones on ebay and they work the same. given im using an ipad block, i am getting 1075mA with the knock off and 2.1A block. i plugged back in the ec21 into ipad block and i got the same numbers.
i am not sure what the stock sony charging block is rated at. for all i know it could in fact be a 2.1A block and its all in my head that the apple one charges quicker. cant tell because the lettering on the sony one is so small.
i will tell you this though, i did noticed at work my charging does take quite a bit longer, but i want to believe its because i have music streaming as well as smartwatch 2 connected. plus i get alot of texts and stuff so im always on it. hahah

Use 2A output usb Charger on L920

Since I bought a brand new L920 today, then I used my 2A output charger to charge L920. It didn't rise 1% after 15 mins, but I use 1A then It back to normal about 3 mins for 1%.
What going on with my L920
Is there any limitation on usb charger?

Did you use the same cable between the two chargers and the phone? It seems to me that not all cable that might fit the port actually work the same. I have seen with my Lumia that certain cable will not work with it's wall charger. I have also seen that certain chargers such as my HTC 1 amp will not work even though I use the same cable that works with the original charger. So in short just use what you find works. I now rely on the wireless charger unless I have done some heavy usage at work. Then I just use the cable I know works and plug it into a pc.

If your 2A output charger is made by some non-name chinese company it could turn-out to be not more than 600mA charger and your Nokia charger is closer to real 1A( I think there were some test in the internet and it's around 850-900mA real-output).

Quick Charge Works (kinda)

I got my phone today, and one of the first things that I did was test all of the Chargers.
My first thought is that the one plus cable that I bought is very high quality. Every charger that I tested, it charge faster than the cheapo ones that I bought on Amazon.
However, what I've been consistently surprised with is that using the same cable this phone charges faster on a Qualcomm quick charge 2 charger than it does on a standard USB charger. I've tested this with all sorts of Chargers around my house and I'm consistently seeing around 1500 when connected to a quick charger, and only a thousand when connected to a standard charger.
The USB C charger that came with the phone is significantly faster. However I wanted to share this so that for those others who bought all sorts of Qualcomm quick charge 2.0 Chargers, don't throw them out. They're still better than a regular charger.
Yeah on a good USB 3.1 cable (nice and thick) with my standard quickcharge charging block (7 ports, 60W total IIRC) I get 'charging rapidly' and it charges better than 1% a minute - about the same rate my N5 did on a much smaller battery. I've still not taken the google charger out of its box yet.. Need to get around to testing it even if I can't see myself using it.

I am curious as to what "standard" chargers you are using. I have a wall charger rated at 5v 2.1a (non-QC) per port and a car charger rated at 5v 2.4a (non-QC) per port, and both of those charge at 1500ma. Is it possible that your "standard" chargers are only rated for 5v 1a output?

Bought that one though still waiting on my phone. Like that it has micro USB too for other devices. Charges my HAM2 very fast.
Your results have nothing to do with them being QuickCharge bricks, I have a inline amp meter and I can get 1.5 on any brick with an amp rating high enough, not just my QC bricks that I was using with my Moto X. At least people will know if they have a QC brick they'll get at least that though.
I didn't know this thread existed. I'm getting what I think is pretty poor performance from the stock 6p charger. Please see this post:
