This happened this morning 1st August around 8am (I didn't know what was happening at first lol) but yup, it went through a full update. My settings are now:
Android version 4.0.4
Baseband version I9300NELF1
Kernel Version 3.0.15-705505-user [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Jun 11 22:24:05 KST
Build number IMM76D.I9300XXALF6
Problem is I have no idea what any of these numbers were before lol... anybody got any ideas what's changed if anything? I can't see anything obvious. Thanks!
You now have firmware version LF6 .
You could join XDA and flash newer firmware .

well to be honest with my old Galaxy S (1) I was a compulsive flasher... trying out new ROMS all the time to try to get that perfect user experience (ended up on Kang), but with this S3? I'm actually enjoying it stock... it's so fast it doesn't feel like much needs changing at all. I think I'd quite like to *not* flash anything over it for a while lol. Leave it as it came. Just curious what, if anything changed with this update
what he means that newer official firmwares are available. The latest being LG8. Not asking you to flash a custom/pseudo custom rom
I've just had this update too this morning. Good to see three are applying yesterday's technology today!
I had some issue with the stock Samsung firmware which disappeared when I reinstalled the three firmware.
I think I need to do some cache clear before I re-attempt stock firmware again.
ahhhh ok I'm with you! Thanks

Thank you for your post.
I am on 3 UK and flashed a custom ROM which stopped people being able to hear me during phone calls. I have spent hours trying to sort this problem out flashing random things and going back to and stock, restoring Nandroids... everything. However, because of your post I tried installing the new Baseband (modem) you said was in the OTA update and it has fixed the problem!!
There are quite a few people with this problem around XDA and we have found the solution so thank you.

Hi guys,
Hopefully you can offer me some advice.
I've been running on stock and normal kies releases on my O2 Samsung Galaxy S2 and I rooted it using infratechs technique is in 'stock' threads. A few days ago an update came up on Kies for the 2.3.5, I've updated and everything apart from my reception is fine. Where before I had say 3 out of 5 bars, now I have none and in areas where I had full strength I only have 3.
My phone details are now:
Android Version: 2.3.5
Baseband Version: I9100XXKI4
Kernal Version: 2.35.7-I9100XWKJ1-CL647431 [email protected] #2
Gingerbread Version: GINGERBREAD.XWKJ1
I've not done anything else to the device since I updated it, not sure why it still says root on ther kernal, But none the less has anyone got any suggestions on what I can do to fix the problem? I don't want to start playing around with flashing until I've had some real guidance from people who know alot more then me!
Thanks in advance.

You need to flash a different modem. That will probably take away your problem. Do you know which rom you had? Then you can flash that modem onto your device.

Hi Lenny, thanks for the quick response it is appreciated.
I don't I'm afraid, I'm guessing it would have been the stock one on the previous version?
Here is a topic about modems that can be flashed true your recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277593
Just try some out and see what works for you the best You could start with the latest and then try the one before that one etc.
How do you know if it worked?

Lennyz1988 - thanks for the guidance. I am definitely a newbie at this. Yesterday my G2 updated it's firmware and the did 2.3.5. The reception dropped straightaway and not doesn't work in parts of the house it did easily before. Those calling me said it was terrible. God forbid, I am having to use an old iphone now!!!
I have rooted the phone, loaded Rom Manager, put it in recovery mode and then told it to install one of the zip files (kp1). It did started the install (orange bar across bottom) but had to press the home key a couple of times to keep it going (there was yellow lines of scripts or comments with several lines of red in the middle each time I pressed the home key but too fast to read).
Anyway, no difference so I suspect it didn't work. Any ideas - stats below ??
I would pay for help if someone could fix the thing.
Vodafone carrier
Baseband - I9100BUK1
Kernel - [email protected]#2
Build - GINGERBREAD.BUKJ3
Original O2 shipped modems first release was KDH
Any of the released modems work on O2 UK some may give individuals better reception .
If you use CWM root and Rom Manager = problems .

I tried doing this with the firmware given for vodaphone UK, however whenever i try it odin freezes when checking MD5 and "stops responding", does not allow me to complete the process. I am carrying out the process the same way i have before so im not sure why this is happening.

"with other providers", are you saying that your last phone was fine on say Orange, but since getting your S3 on Vodafone it's worse, or were you previously on Vodafone.
I've had no problems since upgrading on Voda from the GS2 to 3, but if you've come from another network it will be different.
I was previously on virgin using a HTC Desire HD, and the reception was perfect. Even after talking to them today they said that my coverage should be high speed in my area, however I'm shocked to the fact people cannot even get calls through to me in my own home now and then.
I tried flashing the Vodaphone firmware but it freezes and does not complete due to odin "not responding". When I flash another firmware now currently XXLF2 it works fine.
My Phones Serial Number has been reset to 00000000000000 after upgrading to Android version 4.0.4 from 4.0.3, using Kies.
This has happen on both my phone and my girl friends phone after upgrading to 4.0.4, is this normal ?

I did try a search in the different forum sections, Sorry I'm new here just finding my feet...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29147439
Serial number is not changed or lost, only is bad displayed in 4.0.4, if you return to 4.0.3 the serial displays again this don't have any effect in the phone, when the bug will be fixed in new 4.0.4 your serial appear again.
Slightly different problem
Bought a second hand galaxy s2 yesterday and flashed the ICS firmware. The ICS firmware flashed properly and succeeded without any errors.
s14.postimage.org/n74p8nry7/Screenshot_2012_09_19_06_57_14.png
Kernel missing Kernel version? All the Kernel versions that I've seen posted have had more information than my phone displays.
s16.postimage.org/imb2wxnhf/Screenshot_2012_09_19_06_58_25.png
The serial number is missing like in the post above.
Please could someone advise? I would like to root this phone but I don't think I can without the kernel version.
Thank you.

this is weird, I too did a search on the same subject and it brought me here other links take me off onto missing IMEI numbers etc... none seen yet that address this issue. Is it a dead issue, can it be restored back to phone such as with the IMEI? maybe a title of the thread would help in making sure I have the right one before opening them all.
thank you any help will be appreciated

Forget ICS and whatever you do don't factory reset on 4.0.4 or say bye bye to your s2. Goto sammobile and download lsw jelly bean and flash that through Odin. Just remember don't factory reset on 4.0.4!! You should of bin warned about this.
Hi their all im matt
what it is i have the samsung galaxy s3 i9300 i bought it from carphone warehouse a while back in london (uk obviously) on sim only, so it wasnt branded etc.
Anyway shortly after a while i wanted to root it as i heard about all the benefits etc, so i used the samsung toolkit 7.0 and it rooted fine
anyway for some reason i ened up unrooting it i cannot remember why but i did, and now my device status shows as MODIFIED, and the OTA updates does seem to work as it just says searching but does nothing, ( im guessing this is because i unrooted and the device status says modified)
but before i rooted in the first place i never wrote down what firmware was on the model ( obviously the stock rom but i dont know what rom it was seen as i bought it from carphone warehouse in the uk)
but i wish to root my mobile again but also have the stock rom what came with the actual phone installed.
the rom information on my mobile is :
andorid version: 4.1.2
Baseband version: i9300XXELKC
Kernal version: 3.0.31-742798 [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT SAT DEC 22 17:04:04 KST 2012
Build number JZO54K.I9300XXELKC
can anybody tell me if this is the stock rom that came on my phone when i bought it from carphone warehouse or did i do something wrong when i rooted it in the first place and its installed some other rom. as i just want the stock rom and be able to update as normal but be rooted and device status to be OFFICAL and not MODIFIED
hope somebody can help me with step-by-step instructions
thank you
I've rooted and unrooted a few times, and yes because it says modified you are unable to update. The easiest way and the way i have previously done it was download
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488
and run the flash stock via Odin, this will download a stock firmware which it will then install. Follow the steps to the letter though.
Ive managed to update via kies previously and had an OTA update for it too.
The Uk unbranded firmware version is BTU, if it asks and i believe if you install XXELLA it will then update via kies.
Hi i used the samsung toolkit v7.0 like you said and ODIN loaded up and used the flash thingy but it does nothing to my mobile.
it still says
andorid version: 4.1.2
Baseband version: i9300XXELKC
Kernal version: 3.0.31-742798 [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT SAT DEC 22 17:04:04 KST 2012
Build number JZO54K.I9300XXELKC
in the about device.
so what firmware should be on my galaxy s3, if i bought it from carphone warehouse in uk should it be BTU or ELLA

BTU is the country code for the firmware. Basically a uk firmware has BTU on it. ELLA is the firmware version. I flashed that one and it was 06 on the selection screen from that toolkit. I managed to do firmware upgrade OTA successfully.
Now that odin has finished does it still say modified?

ok iv downloaded and flashed a rom im beliving is the correct one now it says

under device status, it still says modified
i loaded up Kies and now it says, the firmware i have on my s3 is not supported to recieved updates through kies
i try OTA updates and it just loads nothing happens

Im at work till 9 but I'll try and run the flasher and set mine back to stock to see if I can run the update afterwards.
Like I said ive done it before so unless they have changed something in one of the updates to ELLA it shluld bw working. Ill post again once ive done it and let you know

right i heard about a csc changer and as you said before my samsung galaxy s3 should be on BTU, but it appears it wasnt, it looked like it was on XEO.
so i installed csc changer from the google play and it reset my mobile.
device status: says normal,
in download mode, everything is offical again.
but im not rooted
how do i get my mobile rooted without anything changing to custom again
not: i backed up all my apps via titanium
Im pretty sure rooting your device changes it back to modified as its flashes a new image.
Triangle away by chainfire can reset the flash counter so possibly give that a try.

Hi everyone,
after getting my phone from repair (battery was blinking). I have successfully rooted my phone with CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-v5.3-CWM5 and discovered the INSANE CHIP and SW:
Vers: 4.0.4
baseband: I9100BULP8
Kernel version 3.0.15-I9100XXLPQ-CL223505 [email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT Fri Mar 9 02:19:25 KST 2012
Build: IMM76D.BULPG
As the device was upgraded to that version, I cannot send it rooted to repairs again because the camera doesn`t work. So and because f the Insane chip a cannot upgrade it to 4.0.4. What to do? Any ideas?
Thanks

Well the first of all, try flashing a different kernel, I've experienced the camera problem before, but after flashing Siyah kernel the problem was fixed for me, you can also try any other kernel and see what works for you. If it doesn't work, let me know and we can try other ways of fixing the problem.
I did what you sugested, but because of the INSANE chip i really don`t want to mess around a lot. So I flashed Siyah kernel and the SII doesn`t start up, but i can still come to Volume Up or Volume Down screen. All I know, that I cannot flash with original rom 4.0.4 because than will destroy the phone - wipe everything of it.
will that do the trick? LINK searching for XXLPQ
iflashed with original kernel, and the S2 woke up, but the problem still exists.
How can i find the same rom on sammobile? I did searched my operator but it is not listed there. I listed also the french ones and spanish ones and none of them is the same as mine.

If muppets like you want help include your country/or the original software version that came with the phone/the carrier you use etc.How can you expect anyone to link you up with software when you post what your on now.
Samsung can quite easily knock back your warranty if they find a rom that is not meant for the phone your sending them. They can look for signs of tinkering etc.

As I wrote in the first post
Vers: 4.0.4
baseband: I9100BULP8
Kernel version 3.0.15-I9100XXLPQ-CL223505 [email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT Fri Mar 9 02:19:25 KST 2012

and I don`t find that specific one for my country.
COUNTRY: Slovenia
CARRIER: Vodafon (Si.mobil)
Before i have send it to warranty repair of usb connector, it had 4.0.3 (I9100BULPG_I9100SIMLP6_SIM) as it was updated via Kies. So it was updated at service, with something I cannot find.
If any more information is needed, PLEASE write it down, I will look after.

Ok, you know what, just flash stock firmware...anyone will do. Then root your device and install triangle away, wipe your binary counter and the re-flash stock firmware and delete any root files/apps you might have. That deletes all evidence that you might have rooted your device and then send it for repairs. If you don't want to, just hard brick it and they will replace it for you, providing you still have warranty?
