Root, triangleaway, then return for warranty! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys well at the moment I am running stock ICS 4.0.3, 19100T, IML74K.DULP9 as build number. But I am having troubles with the phone and I need to return for warranty, so I need to re root my device and use Triangle Away before going back to stock vodafone for my warranty and I'm just wondering what the best way is to do this all, like step by step guide would be useful! Thanks in advance

The easiest way would be to flash Siyah kernel with Odin.
http://www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/2012/07/29/siyahkernel-s2-v3-5/
After that, get rid of the triangle and reset the flash counter with that app.
Then download stock firmware and flash with Odin.
Thats it.

Also before unrooting remember to delete all traces of applications requiring root to work. I suggest to search the forum as I think I saw a guide regarding this.

[Q] When we flash to official ROM does our Kernel flash to official too?

Hi Guys,
Recently I rooted and flashed with the custom Kernel on my SGS II. But now decided to go back to the official ROM.
So my question is, when I flash it with official ROM (through ODIN). Will the custom Kernel be replaced by the official Kernel that came with the official ROM?
Thank you in advance to the kind soul that replied.
Yes.
Sent from Galaxy S2
Yes, if you needs custom kernel again then you have to flash it separately via Odin again.

If you don't have jig, I suggest to flash to ics first, use triangleaway and then flash back to stock with mobile odin

No official ics releases yet. They were just suggesting a round about way of getting rid of the triangle by flashing a leaked version of ics then using an app to remove the triangle then use something like CWM or mobile Odin to flash back to a GB Rom.
Like I said long winded process.
Just flash an official firmware. Then flash cfroot kernel for that version of firmware. Then if you want to get rid of the triangle use a USB jig available for a few dollars off eBay.

Flashed stock kernel

So i updated my S2 to ICS 4.0.3,and it basicly just sucked and it had alot of bugs still.
So i flashed a stock XWKI8 kernel and went back to GB 2.3.5 , will this void my warranty?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
Going to stock what came with the phone will not void warrenty.
Rooting with cfroot and getting counter go up will.

So i flashed a insecure kernel and rooted it, the guide i followed said that if i flashed the stock kernel the boot triangle would go away.so i did that and my root disapeared and in download mode it says
custom binary download : yes 1 count oe sonething like that
Have i voided my warranty?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
Yes warranty void.
You can use triangle away if you used stock ics from checkfus or sammobile.
It will reset counter to zero.
But for that you have to flash stock ics again, triangleaway works on ics only. On ics boot loader.
Don't use intratech's versions he uses old boot loaders..

But i flashed stock gb 2.5 without root or anything, no triangle
Still void?

Yes, void. There are ways to reset this though. They're plastered all over the forums. Search for them.
flash CF-Root custom kernel, install TriangleAway application, reset counter, flash official firmware kernel back, and you have your warranty back.

He's already back on Gingerbread, this won't work as TriangleAway only works on ICS. He'd have to flash back up to ICS, first, then all that.
You could buy an USB Jig, flash an old bootloader if necessary then plug that thing in and your counter is reset.

Same here happen to me when I flashed the leaked version of ICS last few month.
This is what I did:
Flash XXKI3 GB 2.3.4 (with old bootloader)
Use USB Jig to reset the binary counter (will remove Triangle as well)
Flash DXKL3 GB 2.3.6 (now back on warranty)
Hope this help & good luck...

How do I remove all traces of root?

How do I remove all traces of root and custom kernel??
The reason why, is that the headphones jack is broken and sending the phone in for repair.

Format cache, data, system, & internal sd card in CWRecovery, flash stock rom in Odin, use jig to reset flash counter if necessary.
Where can i get stock roms?
you can follow this: http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-unroot/how-to-unrootunbrick-your-galaxy-s2-i9100-ics/
Here, Samfirmware.com or get the PC version of Checkfus to get the latest firmware for your phone model/carrier/country you'd normally get via OTA update.

What my phone is running right now:
PDA: i9100XXLPQ
PHONE: i9100XXKI4
CSC: i9100XXLPD
it's sorted by country/carrier and such
look for your country and carrier to find the right one
any of them will fit your phone, but if you're preferring some exact language options follow your own CSC.
Thanks for all the help everyone!
I love how the title if this thread makes root to be a contagious disease or something. Cute.

The binary counter only increments when kernels (specifically kernels, not ROMs) that are not signed by Samsung are flashed via Odin. If you flash a non-Samsung kernel via means other than Odin, or flash Samsung official anything via Odin, it doesn't increase the count.

SII I9100 rooted OTA update

Hey Galaxy SII people, I need some help with a friend's SII.
I'm quite knowledgeable with custom ROMs and recoveries, but I have no idea what to do with a stock phone.
The phone is rooted and not getting the OTA to ICS. I want to get the OTA, losing root not necessarily a problem.
Can someone give me a hand with this? I have no idea what I need to do.
The phone also has the stock recovery.
I apologize if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find a conclusive, comprehensive answer.
Go to samfirmware and download the update firmware and install it via odin.
All the best.

Flash stock ROM from http://samfirmware.com/ via Odin. Search for galaxy S2 ROMs, just make sure you don't download the dangerous ROMs (the ones with a warning triangle next to them).

Thanks for the quick reply.
I'm downloading a zip now. I flash this with Odin/Heimdall? I thought I needed a .tar and a bunch of other files to flash with Odin.
This won't keep root, right? Is there any way I could get root back after flashing?
Also, will this wipe /data?
Oh, and I have the option to download a ROM for a specific carrier. Does that mean I can't use another carrier?
Edit: While I'm at it, is the stock recovery needed for anything stock ROM related?
Yes download will be in the form of a zip file, once downloading is complete you can extract the tar. file and place in the PDA section of odin. This will not wipe your device, well never has done for me. Yes you will loose root as you have a completely new rom with stock kernel. See the guide for rooting your chosen firmware. As for the carrier i always use the unbranded /open version as this has less bloat ware. All the best.

Make sure you don't have repartition button ticked or play with the pit file if you don't 100% know what you're doing either

Unrooting, everything back to normal

Hi. I have rooted my S3, to see how it works with PS3 joystick (i am not too impressed)
I have rooted successfully via odin flash guide, but now i get strange problem.
Every now and then, when i want to turn on dispay, it works and show me that clock and then when i swipe to unluck, the phone doesnt respond.
When i power again, display dimms, and nothing happen. I cant unlock my phone, I need to hold power button to reboot, and than it is normal till i lock the screen and want to turn it on again.
My question is, how can i solve it, and if i can't, how can i get everything back to stock and normal?
Try turn off ripple effect in setting, see how it goes.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
First of all, try disabling lockscreen entirely.
Then try performing a full wipe. If nothing changes, flash stock firmware via Odin. If this haven't helped, root your phone, reset bootloader flashing counter via TriangleAway, then flash full stock firmware and make a warranty claim.

As i thought, now, without changing anything, the problem goes away. But i think it will came back
I forgot one big thing!
!!!! When i first flashed PDA, i flashed it with something CF, not insecure kernel (MY FAULT). Then i got this problem but i can say that i couldnt use my phone. Only just after reboot. Then i flashed insecure kernel, al now problem is still here but it is not so often, but i must fix this.
So maybe the problem is because i flashed wrong file, so "bad" files are still here?
Is there an easy fix for this?
