Sooooo all the respected guru's out there, please help me!
There are so many flavours to choose from!
Which ROM is the most complete, stable? I installed the Vanilla ROM. Looks nice. I miss a good messenger though..
Are there any upcoming complete ROMS?
And what about the second camera at the front of the phone? Is it usable as a webcam for a messenger?
Thanksss

Are you talking about WM6 rom stability? If so these are still BETA versions with all of us as the testers (version 02 is still only a few hours old).
I can't test these because my phone's broken, but reading the threads for both Kyphurs and Vanilla rom they appear to be mostly stable and faster, but have some known issues - most of these are listed in the first couple of posts in the release threads (or burried in the discussions).
The only way to test if they are stable for you is to load them and the relevant fixes to known issues - then report back to the rest of the forum with any new problems to help make the next release better. Have fun...
Heh.. If you want stable, wait for your carrier to present you with the ROM..
Everything on this site is "take it with a grain of salt"
Granted, I loaded XDA v0.1 and then XDA v0.2 and aside from a few items, they seem to both work very well.
As with any "testing" you may have issues, and/or brick your unit.. there is always a chance..
GL and hopefully you have fun testing out Windows Mobile 6 on your phone.
If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the [ROM] kitchen!
Just kidding, but not really.

You could use coolcamera.........it works as a streaming USB webcam. I opened a thread on this a while back take a look?
Thanks for the replies all of you.
I have two HTC Hermes pda's. One is kind of bricked. The other one is superCID. Is there a benefit of flashing the device with the AKU 2.06 Cingular ROM, compaired to the available HTC ROM's?

If you want WM5 and are on Cingular, then use the AKU 3.3 leaked Cingular ROM.
If you want WM6 then the choices are a plenty.

Wpbear, thanks. I'm not on Cingular, I have an original HTC, but my device is superCID though.
Ofcourse I would like the latest WM6. But how stable is it? Should I try the the LVSW version?
Thanks!

Spending a 5 minutes reading the LVSW thread will give you a very good idea how stable it is. Runs fine on mine

Comparing the above statement of Wpbear with Wam7's, does not clarify things for me in 1 minute reading here.
Is it possible and wise if I wish to stay with WM5 for a while, to upgrade my superCID HTC device with the Cingular AKU 3.3 ROM, since there isn't a shipped AKU 3.3 ROM from HTC?
If I choose for WM6, do I choose the LVSW or XDA Live 0.20 edition?
And which Extended ROM suits best with either one?
Thanks.

You see, that 1 minute reading is part of the problem. Just spending a few more minutes skimming through the relevant threads will indicate whether a particular ROM is for you. If you do not have the time or inclination to try them yourselves that is the least you can do.
There is no contradiction between mine and Wpbear's statement. On one hand I read through the LSVW Rom thread and quickly came to the conclusion that I would try it and so far I have no problems... I did have a low memory problem with the XDA .20 which was easily solved with a reg fix.
Wpbear is saying all the ROMS have different quirks; what one person has a problem with somebody else will say it runs fine... quirks.
There is a tacit feeling that too many people expect easy answers and to be spoon fed without putting in a little leg work themselves.
best of both worlds!!
I installed lvsw rom, updated radio to 1.34, next i had taken an spb backup of an previously installed xda live 0.20 and restored it on top of the lvsw rom, reinstalled a couple proggies, deleted an invalid startup, and voila! The most stable rom and os i ever experienced on a ppc. All done yesterday, and not one time did i have to soft reset behind instability! how did i learn how to do this? all i did was let the forum talk, and i read!

May ask what was the "invalid start up" you deleted?
I think the best thing to do is flash ROMs to the phone and try them... eventually settling on the one you like best... why you need people to tell you what to put on your device is beyond me.

Wpbear is not saying that all ROM's have different problems, but all ROM's are the same, quircky, like all HTC ROM's.
So when you tell me "what one person has a problem with, somebody else will say it runs fine", You can not understand why things remain unclear to me? I mean, the people trying out these ROMS are all using a HTC Hermes like me. So it would be a big guess, I could have problems, or I could not.

Princeasi: thanks for your reply.
Olipro: Ok you're basicly saying when I read this forum, and things are unclear to me what ROM to use, that because this is not unclear to you or others, I should shut up and not ask questions?
no, I think you should just try the ROMs yourself; flash Hard-SPL if you're worried about buggering your phone up, and then start plopping ROMs onto your device.
Reading the respective threads of the ROMs you try is generally a good idea since what's contained in them is listed in a far greater detail than anybody will go to the effort of writing here.
Might I add, that which ROM you use is a matter of personal taste, therefore there is no "right" or "wrong" ROM to use; therefore, how you can say "things are unclear to me what ROM to use" makes no sense.
at best you're too lazy to trawl the threads to look up the information yourself; as I said earlier, the respective ROM threads will tell you far more substantial information if you can make the effort to actually read through it... failing that, flash it to your phone.

Asking which ROM to use does make sense, since I asked in my first post: Which is most COMPLETE and STABLE. I then mean, compared to original ones. You get it? In the first post I'm not asking about my PERSONAL ROM taste, but the most COMPLETE and STABLE. Since I'm not lazy, and read all the threads, I did not become wiser about which is the most stable one. Besides this, even Wpbear is saying: "what one person has a problem with, somebody else will say it runs fine". You might concider it to be a possibility that for one person reading all the threads makes him less wiser then some other person reading the threads. This doesn't right away mean he's lazy, does it?
All the threads are about ROM's for someone running fine and some other running awful. So no, I do not think my question is stupid, or out of lazyness.
well... I'm afraid to say that "COMPLETE and STABLE" is something that is rather subjective since unless a ROM is totally broken, it's generally not that easy to work out how much more "COMPLETE" or how much more "STABLE" it is.
also, in terms of how "COMPLETE" it is, you can easily work that out by checking what's bundled into the app.
so really, I fall back to my original point that you should try the ROMs for yourself.
Can anyone point me to the most stable android rom currently available for the touch pro 2?
Probably the one that has STABLE in big huge letters
Just a guess

Um, how is that not helping?
There is only one build thread that has the word "Stable" in the topic.
And there aren't even 20 different builds in existence.
Actually, to be pedantic - there are NO stable Android ROMs. The only "stable" builds run from the SD card, not NAND flash, therefore aren't ROMs.
Indeed, and if you take the time to read the thread, I say the build isn't truly stable, but as far as all other Android builds for our phones, it's the 'most stable' for sure. Hence the reason I put 'stable' in the thread title, crazy concept I know. Hence the reason the word stable in the thread title is in quotes...
lol well I think you've gotten your bashings (try to read up a bit more and search around in the future ) Anyways, in my opinion, FRX06 is the most stable at the moment, the thread for that is here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=951962
To get better performance you are going to want a new kernal, I would suggest getting that here. This thread has testing kernals but most of the time they will have better battery life/performance than the official kernals.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885550
Unzip that file, and go into wherever all your android files are, (in the FRX06 folder) and delete the other zImage file and modules file. Put in the new zImage and module file. Usually you would have to rename the zImage but it has already been done for you.
Then you can get a new rootfs, I suggest getting it here, there a lot of cool features and keymaps explained. This whole thread gives instructions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=935710
just use frx06
Check the appropriate thread in my signature before you ask anymore questions
Omg yall practically tortured the dude for answering a simple question lol. Well i think each Rhodium version is different and the stabilty also depends on the kernal/build combination. So only way to really find out is to try a whole bunch. Im waiting for NAND for GSM. I kinda gave up on SD builds because its such a hassle. I only need to text and talk forreal. I just miss my old G1 Android tho lol

I only talk and text also. But even in this stage of the game, I find the stability and speed of most apps (like messaging) to be faster than winmo. No stupid loading icon. In my opinion, android is MUCH more aesthetically pleasing. Winmo is a bit boring, all of the options for widgets and such in android is very cool. I am also waiting for NAND for GSM but I have no idea when that will be, SD builds are still much more stable. No need to try a whole bunch, FRX06 package with latest wistilt2 kernal is probablity the easiest and most stable combo. Not sure why you think they are such a hassle though.

I mainly switched because of how painfully slow texting is on winmo. That's mainly because of how crappy the HTC messaging app is (more than 100 messages in a thread and the phone slows to a standstill when you try to text them).
There is no answer to the question asked, just try all the ROMs, you'd know yourself.

It's frowned upon because a lot of developers have been offended by this exact kind of thread. You didn't ask for suggestions - you asked "What IS the best ROM". The best ROM is the one you like best, after trying them all for yourself. Only a person that has tried every single available ROM can actually tell you what they honestly think is the best, and even then it's subjective - it comes down to what YOU want from your ROM, not someone else.
As for reporting this, I did so in the hope that a mod would close the thread. It wasn't a personal report against you - just the thread and its ilk.

Sorry if I came across a bit "shirty" earlier. I'm just getting a bit sick of some of the threads filling the SGS2 forums, and this is just one of those questions that people seem to ask on a daily basis. Nothing personal - just getting frustrated with it.
I've been on unnamed for a while and cognition before that. I came from Cognition on the Captivate, so it's obvious I prefer a mostly stock ROM. Both of these ROMs are no longer supported though, so gathering opinions on where to go. If anyone suggests something please say why. Thanks
ShoStock is still getting updates.
My favorite is villainrom 3.0 hellraised with the latest version of the siyah kernel
CyanogenMod is pretty nice, its my first non-stock rom. The only thing I miss is the stock Samsung alarm clock. Its worth a try for a day or two at least.

These kinds of thread are really a gray area for us.
On one hand, there is nothing wrong wanting to get user's opinions. For somebody who is unsure, getting experience from others about what is good and what is bad can be really useful.
On the other hand, you can't just ask "What is the best". For one, since there are different versions of android builds, no one can just say what the "best" is. For some people, the best can be the most bleeding edge build even with broken functionality. For others, they may value stability the most; and for even more, they may want a build with tons of extra features.
So, with that said - OP: i welcome you to rephrase your question, preferably about some specific ROMs that you might have in mind, as well as what your needs are. Otherwise, i will close this down per board rules..
If you know how to flash roms and you are comfortable with it then just try them. Thats the best advice any of us can really give you. Im on sensation rom and that is still alive and a great rom, but its really up to you. ShoStock is your best bet to stay stock though.

I've stuck with ICScrewD and Siyah for the past several months keeping up with the updates and I've been pretty pleased with my battery life and performance. I also switch to Entropy's DD occasionally. It's all stable
Try some various ones out man. Like poster above said if you feel comfortable flashing then it can become trial and error. You'll eventually find the one that suits you

I apologize if I wasn't clear when I said "I prefer a stock experience". I use BT extensively in my car, so I was looking for a MOSTLY stock ROM with finctionality being a priority, would prefer to keep TW as well. Basically, something along the lines of COGNITION or UNNAMED, but, a ROM that keeps getting updates. I wasn't trying to cause problems, but, I really don't feel like going through the 5000 ROMS for this phone; I didn't think asking other users opinions was that bad. I did post in the GENERAL section. I hope that clears it up, if not, delete if you must.
Hey, so I've seen a lot of people talking about how good XX ROM is and it's better than YY because of something. Also another problem being the question of best ROM.
I'd like to say something: Everyone has their own thinking and point of view, so something's that's not important to you might be imporrtant to someone else, so making judgements like this is better than that is all dependant from person to person. We all know that no two mind think alike. These types of questions discourage developers so please it's my humble request to not post / compare ROMs calling them bad / good. If you don't like a feature then don't use it. Same goes for the ROM. If you can help improve then you most probably can via github or gerrit as some ROMs provide. With that being said. Thanksfor the time to read this post.
I kind of agree. I much prefer to see descriptions with a list of pros and cons rather than a simple "this ROM is better because I like these aspects"

Going to give it ago again tonight... I week or so ago I tried it and had very odd behaviors. Likely just a bad flash (sounds odd, but it does happen) and went back to Oxygen... is there any differences between the UNOFFICIAL and OFFICIAL builds?
How is it that even a thread specifically made to tell people not to ask questions about which rom is best, turns into a rom advice thread.

Won't make a separate thread for this but I'll ask here - what are 2-4 most popular ROMs for the OP2 going around nowadays? I've been using Exodus ROM for a long time and I really liked it, but the latest update was November 11th and it looks like the developers have moved on. The ROM is fine, and there's really nothing that I'm missing, but there are some stability issues with random reboots and force close and this is the longest I've gone without updating/changing something so I'm looking to try something new. I want to look into a few different options and read others' reviews and look into features and stuff, but it would be great if you guys could narrow down my search to the few most popular/well known/most supported roms that are currently available.
