stock HTC MAil app is incompatible w/ Verizon.net account ??? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't be the only one who has encountered this issue. The stock Mail app will no longer function with my Verizon.net mail account. I have spen a couple hours across calls to VZW tech support and even with FiOS tech suport to figure this out, no help.
Main Symptoms:
-the phone runs hot and the battery drains in 3-4 hours with Mail as the main user of battery.
-almost every time you open the inbox it is empty and the phone starts downloading the entire inbox again, even if you were just in it and updating a few minutes ago
-wtf?
I wiped the the phone a couple times (I was stock) no help
I tried MailDriod and K9, they did not suffer from the problem, but I really prefer the stock app which had been performing flawlessly for my Business (Exchange) mail and my personal mail untill sometime in late winter ~January.
I had hoped that the mention of changes to the Mail app in the .19 OTA would solve it, but no.
As a last resort I rooted this week to see if replacing the stock software with a Sense 3.0 ROM with the new app would solve the problem. I tried ShiftS3ns3 3.0. It behaves the same way with my Verizon.net account.
I am about to give up on this, but I figure, I can't be the only one who has this problem.
Any experience with this issue, especially resolving it, is welcome here.
Please don't post to this thread that I should just use -insert your favorite 3rd party mail app here-.

Gmail "The message(s) could not be sent..."

***Update 10/29/08***
Just found this update, supposedly from someone high up at Microsoft. Seems plausible to me.
***Update 12/1/08***
I "guess" that fix made the problem a little better for me, but it didn't stop the error. The good news is MS has released a fix for the problem.
We'll see...
I'm going the reverse the instructions from the preceeding "fix" (registry edit), delete my current gmail account, soft reset, apply the MS patch, then recreate my account.
***End of update 12/1/08***
If you've used gmail for outgoing email long enough I'll bet you've seen this error while trying to send at some point, which then prevents you from sending any more emails via gmail:
"The message could not be sent. Check that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct. Then try sending again."
I've seen it using many dcd/no2chem roms using gps and non gps radios.
There are loads of "fixes" on various forums that suggest specifying server port numbers, requiring/not requiring SSL, etc. .It's been my experience that only one fix fixes the issue consistently.

Creating this new account with a different name is the only fix I've found that works consistently, at least for a couple weeks.
Status...
I said in the other thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2398125&postcount=82) I would wait to test... Well guess I am not good at waiting.
After recreated with a UNIQUE name it is sending fine. I will see how long it lasts.
Another thread here with some of the setup info.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=385575&highlight=gmail+imap+sending
Yup, I've needed to create unique names from Gmail to Gmail6 before to get messages sent.
Never seems to work for more than a couple weeks.
7-12 thru 7-18... Looks like I am on Gmail02
This is a real pain!
That it is!
All I've been able to do is file an error report with Google.
Sure would be nice if someone knew Pocket Outlook well enough to investigate...
I'm having the same trouble and don't use Google for email.
I monitor 4 accounts with my Tilt and the one that causes me problems is the Exchange account, using IMAP and SMTP. The other 3 IMAP accounts use Courier/Qmail and they have never posed a problem.
I even tried sending my Exchange account email using my Qmail SMTP server and it too triggers the error.
It has gotten to be such a pain in the ass that I'm evaluating FlexMail which works so far, but is a bit slow.
My money is on a problem with Pocket Outlook.

For what it's worth, I use a free app called Seven (http://community.seven.com/) to have my Gmail messages pushed to pOutlook my phone, and I've never encountered this problem that you guys are describing.. and i've been using it for about 8 months now.
Thanks for the tip on Seven. Nice how it runs behind the scenes, preserving Pocket Outlook's interface. Too bad how it'll only retrieve messages < 30 days old, but it'll be a good fix for me if it stops these errors...
Huh, I hadn't noticed that limitation, but now that you mention it, it would be kinda nice to be able to go back in my email history a little further (heck, we've got enough internal storage space for it). Anyway, good luck with it.
There's always native gmail...
I prefer to use native gmail running in GC's Java midlet. With native gmail, you get...
a familiar gmail interface
20MB attachments received right on your 6800
full access to read and modify your contacts
access to your complete gmail history, with search
your gmail labels
THREADED messages!
What's missing? A way for your 68000 to inform you, "You've got mail".
Updated first post.
Does this affect DCD roms or just the stock Verizon one? or both?
omg
I have been tearing my hair out since I have had my phone over this. could not figure it out, only solution was to delete the account and re-add
I will follow and try this
Thanks
Hi - I have a similar issue with gmail. Incoming works perfectly via imap, however outgoing emails do not work at all. I tried the smtp fix patch from MS, changing outgoing smtp.gmail.com to smtp.gmail.com:465 or 587 and it still doesn't work. Also tried to create the account again to no avail.
I used the standard settings on gmail site https://mail.google.com/support/bin/...y?answer=78886 - dunno what I am missing here!! Any help would be nice
I am trying this on a brand new htc diamond.
I am using FlexMail 4 and have never had a problem sending or receiving with gMail IMAP. I can not, either, send emails using ms pocket outlook. I can receive emails just fine. This is a bug in MS Pocket Outlook as described by earlier post.
I "guess" that fix made the problem a little better for me, but it didn't stop the error. The good news is MS has released a fix for the problem.
We'll see...

I don't know if you guys are using 6.1 or not, I just found this thread while googling the error message and found a solution that worked for me.
Here is the official Microsoft patch for this problem and it seems to have worked (at least so far) for me. I just downloaded the cab, my phone restarted, and sending emails works again.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...d2dd-44f2-86e5-1e53aad7fb7a&displaylang=en&tm
Hope that helps.
I was and still am running 6.1 (dcd 3.2.6). After applying that patch I don't get the error as often, but I still get it with gmail and my work IMAP. I haven't had to recreate any accounts since the patch, only a soft reset's required to start sending again. So, for me the patch has been an improvement but not a fix.
To me, a fix here will be the best part about 6.5, assuming they fixed it (I have no idea)...
Thanks all.
Just to say the MS patch seems to have fixed things - this evening at least.
Interestingly, I've got three different gmail-based accounts on my phone. Two of them stopped sending, but the third remained unaffected.
Thanks again!

Slowdown on more than 20 E-mails

Has anybody else problems with extreme slowdown when downloading more than 20 E-mails or so? The download itself goes slower and slower, and then it starts affecting the rest of the phone. I sometimes have to turn off the phone because it becomes totally unusable. I use the latest Energy ROM with Max Sense but I have had this for a long time.
No problem with my mail accounts, have downloaded close to 40 mails from one account without hanging/slowing. I too use Energy, tried latest 29007 & 29017 builds but for me 23699 Dinik is my choice due to better sense stability & software scrolling compatability.
What email account is it and is it IMAP or POP3 ?
I have never tried the Dinik ROM, maybe I should try it? I have never had any problems with instability, though. But I stay iwth the 21-series ROMs, the one with the bottom start menu clashes with so many of the standard programs that I use.
The account is a regular mail account with my E-mail services provider online.no, and I use POP3 to download. I tried just now to hard reset the phone and download the 126 messages that are on the account from today and yesterday without using anything HTC on the home screen, and this time they came like clockwork. So it's obvious it's something with the updating of the HTC stuff.
You hard reset & avoided HTC homescreen both in 1 test ?
So which one actually resolved it !
What programs do you have issues with on bottom start menu builds ? I use the 23699 as it is 100% compatable with all software I use. 29xxx is a pain & with no real benefits to me.
My account is POP3,also have IMAP account. All work fine via Sense menu Mail tab send/receive button. Hope you can eliminate this problem.
I know it isn't the hard reset, because I actually did that earlier and had the slowdown. Should have mentioned that, sorry. The hard reset is because I changed ROM today, so I can experiment a bit without having to do Sprite Backups and restores all the time. And I have to do a reset (I think...) to make the messaging system forget that those mails have been downloaded before.
I actually can't remember what programs I had problems with, but I have tried the 29xxx builds several times and always flashed into a 21xxx after a few hours. Last time I tried was last fall, and I haven't changed any of my core programs in 2-3 years (there are no updates to them), so I'm quite sure I can't use that now either.
But I see one difference here: You use the Sense mail tab. I don't. I only use the messaging tab and open the original Windows Mobile messaging. I really don't like the message system in HTC, and I even turn off threaded messaging. You can say that I'm a bit old (pushing 50) and set in my ways when it comes to what I like. Still I found out that the Max Sense build really fits me, so I have stuck with that. I'll try downloading mail with the mail tab and see if that changes anything. I'll be back with the result soon!
Nope, that did not help. I get the same slowdown after a new hard reset, and putting in the mail tab when it goes beyond 20 E-mails or so. I really wish I could find a solution for this, it's bugging the s...t out of me.
I get this too but only on a gprs connection. Hsdpa or wifi is fine. Also using an energy Rom.
Sent from my fingers to your face...
Yeh I too do not use threaded sms but I do like sense tabs for quick sms & email viewing although 99% of any mail task is handled directly within WM mail client.
Many of my apps never got updated for WM6 but they are all luckily working ok for me.
I use GPRS Edge mainly for mail checks & downloads. Have regular inbox amounts around 20 to mid 30s & never had an issue !
Are you downloading the whole mail or have you capped a limit in the settings ? might help you pending on your needs !
I have a 2 kb limit, so not the whole mail. What are you using?
I have 2KB for Hotmail account & 20KB on my work accounts.
Do you have same issues via WIFI/ActiveSync/GPRS connection methods !
If software conflicts are ruled out & it happens on all connection types it is either related to your mail provider server or more likely a slight problem with your chosen ROM flavour.
Always WiFi, never any other type of mail check. I have a mobile router in my car, and I'm in my home office 99 % of the work week, so I don't need anything else. I'm guessing that it's something with the Max Sense ROM. I tried downloading only the headers just now, and that only moved the slowdown fase to around 30 E-mails. So there is something weird here. I may have to try out one of the Cookie Home Tab ROMs even though I love the Max Sense way of doing things. I'll probably get back to the Max Sense, though. If I'm careful to download mail and delete it from the server with my computer I won't get over 10-15 mails.
Mmm, is their any way you could forward priority mail to another account specifically used on your device thus limiting mail you recieve ! I realize this may not suit your use but thought worth mentioning since of your love with current ROM.
I count myself lucky my favourite ROM flavour & older 23699 build works 99.9% perfect in my daily use ... good luck ...
No, there isn't. I'll just have to live with it, thanks.

[Q] 3.2 issues on P7510 (IMAP and WiFi)

Hi Everybody!
A week ago I finally received 3.2 to my Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi only. Right after that I found that IMAP client stoped working - it is downloading folders list but not any messages. Does anyone see such things? And it looks like WiFi wake-up issue didn't fixed as well. Here is my tab params: kernel - 2.6.36.3, build - HTJ85B P7510XWKL1
Greetings!

same tab, same update but not these same problems.
Kernel: 2.6.36.3, Build: HTJ85B P7510WXKL1 to confirm.
Thanks for your input!
I just made hard reset but it seems didn't help. Also after this update home screen shortcuts became too sensitive - they try to move to 1st or 2nd screen instead of just move to another cell on the middle screen. Wierd.

Maybe bold, but going back to factory settings? If the problems keep on persisting that is.
Already did - nothing was changed Probably should talk with local support
I have had the same issue after the update. I tried getting Samsung support but no luck, they just said check with your network admin for the correct parameters. Wasted 40 minutes trying get the support person to understand the problem and gave up.
IMAP Email issue on Android 3.2
Grrrrr! I Spent 10 minutes on phone w/ GoDaddy to verify IMAP settings...They are right (big surprise). Spent 43 minutes on phone with Verizon w/ both tier 1 & 2 tech support....Nothing! THEN spent another 50 minutes on the phone with Samsung...again NOTHING! They ALL say, "haven't heard of this issue", even though a quick Google search shows...LIAR!! My inlaws are VERY mad, they spent $700 for something that worked great for a month, then the update came and now their emails do nothing, and email is one of the main things they wanted a tablet for...they travel in an RV a lot.
And the strangest thing is tht I can send an email from the tablet IMAP email account in the native Android "app" and it does go...it's just not showing what's in the folders.
I downloaded email apps which work fine, so for everyone to just throw their hands up and say nope not my problem is NOT ok! These people (my inlaws) are about to go to Verizon and have a WORD (meaning my father-in-law will yell....a lot!) I kinda don't blame him....$700 for something that I have to use a "bandaid" on to view email...IS rediculous.
Come on Samsung/Verizon/Android just admit there is a problem and fix it already!
If anyone figures out a workaround other than an app please email me.
Hi,
I have updated my device two days ago and have the same problem with IMAP, I can see all of the folders but cannot see the body of messages!
Any hope to fix this?
Thx
Is the IMAP problem with the stock email client? I've never had any luck with the stock email app and IMAP, beginning with my Droid Charge back in May of last year. I've used K9 (free app) and currently have nine IMAP accounts (IIRC; including two Gmail accounts) set up. No problems with them getting push notifications of new mails.
I'm not a huge fan of K9. It works flawlessly for the most part, but occasionally clicking "show pictures" in emails doesn't work (ok, more frequently than 'occasionally'), among other things. Still, for reliable IMAP notifications and sending, I can't complain...especially for the price. Still, I wish it were a little more polished. <shrug>
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk
That is frustrating, same issue with native email client after upgrading to 3.2 - IMAP will not show any messages in the folders. I hope ICS upgrade will fix it.
Today I chatted with Samsung Tech support. Here was my issue:
"Wifi Galaxy Tab 10.1 GT-P7510. After geting OTA for Android 3.2 the Samsung "Email" app would not show any messages for the IMAP account that I have.
So far I have tried removing and re-adding the account, clearing out data from application but that does not help. I can see folders created under my Inbox but no messages will show, just "Load more messages 0/0" which stays the same after refreshing. If I create folders via webmail those will show up on tablet, but once again without any messages in them.
Following last support agent advise I have done a factory reset and then a Hard Reset but issue is still there. "
here was reply from Samsung:
Augustine: As you have performed all the troubleshooting steps it needs to be isolated at the service center. As we performed all the troubleshooting steps and issue still persists, the device needs to be serviced. Let me provide you with a link where you can file an online service request. http://www.samsung.com/us/support/service/request

problems with kik app

Ok I am not sure if this should be in this forum, but I was wanting to know if anyone had a possible solution to the problem I have with kik messenger, the problem has been with me for about 3 weeks now, kik are claiming the problem is on my side, but its only kik the problems are with, so what actually happened was on my account I was receiving some messages but not all, and also when I was sending messages the majority of them stayed on "s" which means I think that its not getting delivered, even though the people I messaged were online and were not having any problems them selfs, unless it was to me, i had a good internet connection, so thats not the issue, I would send 1 or two messages and they got delivered, I cant seem to find a problem as all other apps work fine, I did try taking my battery out, restarting my phone etc etc, the strange thing is I opened another account and it sent and received messages perfectly for maybe about two hours and then done the exact same, so I opened another account and that done it aswell, in fact ive opened 4 kik accounts to see if it done the same and it has, strange I know, I have actually tried signing into all the acounts 1 by 1 and still the same problems , does anyone know why this is happening and have a solution to this? I would not ask in here but ive tried everything else and nothing seems to work, ive even uninstalled kik about 3 times and reinstalled it but still same problems, kik are not helping and I know this place has alot of very smart people and geniuses so I thought I could get a solution on here, if not a solution then maybe even just an answer to why this is happening to me and if possible if it is fixable, thanks again for reading my thread and I hope to hear back from someone, thanks .bazza.
Same problem here - some additional info
I've been having the same problem with my kik app since I updated to the newest version of the app. One extra thing to note is that when I try to add anyone new or search for a user, I get a dialog box that says I don't have a network connection. My network connection is fine, and other apps don't seem to have any problem with it. I disconnected from wifi to test it out, and it doesn't even recognize my phone's connection as active. I'm really confused, but I think the problem has to do with something in the update not jiving with how these phones connect?
Hello friends,
I am here with a possible solution. sometimes kik servers can go down, unfortunately, but don't worry. there are spikes, so all you have to do is check constantly. Eventually, it should work.
P.S- when kik servers go down, the current messages you are recieving/sending may have the time of when the kik server went online for the first time. The rest will have their own times however, so do not worry if something as such happens.

General Every year I try the latest S ultra model but im always faced with delayed gmail notifications

This has happened on the S20, S21, S22 and now the S23 ultra
setup from new or smart switch, played with all the battery optimisation settings and app settings but I always seem to get delayed gmail notifications vs iphone which has instant gmail app alarms 100% of the time.
I even tried this adb fix https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-notification-fix-works-100.3865551/ which seem to have worked for one day but returned to delays the next day (phone hasn’t been rebooted)
I’m paying £1300+ for a device, I shouldnt have to find my own fixes for this issue. Android need to sort this out once and for all, it’s been happening for years. Doze Is a pain.
you may say, use another email client but none support the gmail categories primary, social and promotions which I use a lot and works very well filtering emails, other apps have a unified inbox and I’d be forever receiving new emails.
lve now sent the s23 ultra back and im back on my iPhone, their gmail app is unrivalled Imo.
One day they will fix this!
Until that day then
I don't know why you felt the need to make this post after you already returned the phone when nobody can suggest anything to fix the issue but enjoy your iPhone I guess? It's your first post since 2021, someone probably would have had a fix beyond switching email apps by now.
Bye. Won't be missed.
For those who is experiencing similar issues try to put gmail in never sleeping apps category(battery settings)

Lol. Doesn’t work.
Just put apps that you need notification in milliseconds that they are arrive in never sleeping apps and you will be fine...
The issue is with the Gmail-app is my experience. When using gmail-account in Samsung Email-app, with setting to auto-synchronise on receipt, email notifications arrive instantly...
