I have always noticed that when switching roms my texting conversations and contacts are always lost even when I back everything up in TI. Is there a way I can transfer them all over?

U should let your gmail account backup your contacts and I use SMS backup and restore from the play store(market) for saving SMS/MMS.

I use mybackup pro
Eric
I delete mine and then flash so they are gone, that way I can tell all that text me..."I didnt get your txt"
Contacts...google account keeps them backup for me.

The app developer of sms backup and restore made a call log backup and restore. Both are terrific apps.
What launcher are you using? You can usually save your dock icons and your desktop layout.

Does sms call backup, backup, and preserve ring tones to individual contacts too?
I use Google Contacts and Voice do I never have to worry about backing those up. For local messages I use SMS Backup+ which synchronizes messages to a Gmail folder.

Sorry, I can't answer that. I don't assign separate ringtones.
Edit: I checked the market and none of the backup apps mentioned the ringtone.

Hello all,
So I hate repetitiveness in the UI so I have swapped the dedicated VM button with an "goto/initiate SMS" button. We already have a voicemail button by pressing or dialing one why do we need two?

Glad to see you around here
very cool.
Any chance you can make the dialer numbers scalable as well? (for alternate DPI?)
Forcing the log button to stick on what you want logged would be great too. Right now, if you hit log or the press the green phone button, you get a log of all calls and SMS messages. You can switch it in the menu but it reverts right back to log all. I loved how my cappy would show you logs of just the phone calls made/recieved.
Nice + 1 setimg up now

Works great even with Google voice messaging. Thanks bro

Hate to ask but how do i install this? I tried uninstalling contacts in titanium backup and restarting first, but when I tried to install the apk it just said "not installed", I do have unknown sources allowed in settings.

Place it in system/app (to replace the existing one) via root explorer (and fix the permissions to match everything else in the folder, rw-r-r).
Is this for stock?

yup

This does not work on a stock/rooted phone. Maybe on a custom rom but pushed it on a stock phone and the SMS button takes me to voicemail.
As the title states...(minus the calling capabilities of course)
Thanks for the info.
Rob
If you refer to google voice for text messages and calls and not google voice search as some people get confused, then yes it works pretty well, but for make calls it does not work with other apps like groove IP , gvoice and so because of the lack of the proper drivers for the mic and possibly speaker too.

Awesome thanks....yes I will just be using for the texting. When the NT is in sleep mode will it still notify you of an incoming message or do you have to manually check it? Also, when rooted do you get audible notifications for new messages and/or emails like you do on a regular Android tab or phone?

yes you can get audible notifications, and the notfications will not show up while nook is sleeping once you wake it up wifi will wake up too in few seconds and then you will have to wait until next refresh of google voice to check for new texts to finally show up in your notification status bar, i think it refresh every 5min but not sure and there is not option to set the refreshing time in google voice.

The only problem is that you cannot access your contacts list (since the Contacts application is not installed).

Nop, you can use your contacts while you sync them with your gmail account:

I've successfully texted using Google Voice with the NT (sent and received). I use GMail, but recently started using Contapps for viewing and text messaging/e-mailing my contacts on the tablet. It also has Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, etc integration. So far so good.
No go on the phone calling though.
hello guys, yesterday i bought my sgs3 after i sold my iphone 4 (at last)
and after some search in my first touch with android, i came up to this problem...
my phone had on it 4.0.4 ICS, so i rooted it in first place, then installed addfree, addaway and a couple of games, after that i wanted a better sms program, so i tested handset and go sms pto, go sms pro proved to be better for my taste...and this is the part where the problem comes in...
i did all its settings correctly, about notifications etc, and no matter what i do, when i have 1 or more sms unreaded in my inbox, go sms pro icon dont show a thing on it, only go sms pro widget shows "1" unreded on its icon, and stock sms app, but not the go sms app icon that i have on dock...
does anyone know whats that problem? did i do anything thats causing it? is it a bug that with an update will be fixed on the 4.0.4 ICS?
i also tried go launcher ex with go launcher ex notifications, neither that did work (and i didnt like its outfit too)
please HELP!!!!!!!!!
Did you chose go sms pro as default sms application?
im not sure about that, where do i make it default sms app?

click go sms and it will ask you would you like to make go sms your default messaging app tick the box and tap go sms.. Then go to settings and find turn off built in sms so that only go sms will pick up your messages and not your stock messaging app..
ok i downloaded Default App Manager and made default Go SMS Pro for messaging but still, i get notification and counter on go sms widget but not on the apps icon

Not sure if this will work but remove the go sms app from the dock and drag the widget there instead. I had the same problem too and am going to see if this works.

You need to use a file manager with root functions. Root explorer, EStrongs etc.

My bad, yeah i do have that file :S
i mean my SMS/MMS work fine its just that its not recorded in the call log since I downloaded the AOSP messaging app which replaced the default S3 messaging app
Before downloading it, it worked fine
I didn't mean look to see if you have the database. I meant open the database and look to see if your messages are recorded within it
Edit, you're saying that the SMS from within the messaging app arent appearing in your phone application / Call log? The SMS show in the SMS app?

Sorry bare with me, im still sort of new to android rooting. That's correct so all the SMS's i send and receive do not show up in the Call Log e.g. if I sent a SMS to you, it would not be in my call log/history but the Messaging app is perfectly functional.
Did you mean this? Theres too lines cut off in the picture which are :
Words_segdir
words_segments
Ah ok. No it wouldn't appear in the call log. You need the Samsung messaging app. The CM messaging app cannot interact with the Samsung phone app in the same way, as it's not coded to, unlike the Samsung messaging app.
Although the database in the screenshot is now irrelevant (as I mixed up what you meant), it was the "SMS" row in that table you screenshotted I want to check. But it doesnt matter now.
Ah crap.
Sorry another question, is there anyway to get the stock messaging app back so the logs work again? e.g can i flash the app and it'll be back to normal
Just take it out of a rom

Mine is the same way- weird. It changed because it was normal. Changing the font size does nothing. Anybody?

Hope that helps. Now to figure out the S Voice issue...

fix
Go to app manager and go to all aps. From there, go to contacts and clear cache and data, do the same for phone (there might be more than 1 phone icon, do for all), then go to contacts and doable it, and re able it back. Close all out and go to contacts, then it should all be fixed!
