Well, at the moment your only hope IS kies, so open it up with your player connected and on that error message, and try to restore, and hopefully it will work. If not, I and/or zaclimon will be releasing working rooted files for you guys in the next few days, so no sweat.

The recovery code is given by kies when trying to update. If you don't have it then it is pretty much of a problem. But try to flash the thing you tried again.

i am no expert but if you can try and get into recovery and try and restore your phone.. what i mean is press volume up + home button + power button and try and get into recovery...if you can then if you have a previous rom that you have backed up then just restore and see if that works...
or if you can get into download mode try and see if you can flash any other stock firmware... Sorry i do not know anything else to suggest.. hope you sort it out

[Q] help! can't flash software via Odin (battery fell off during Boot in recovery)

Hello guys,
Please help me with this! I am very very new to this and I was just trying to install a cyanogen 7 and right in the middle of boot under recovery my battery fell off
I had already backed up and wiped everything but I cannot get it back in recovery anymore.
Phone won't boot at all. It says Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again. But Kies cannot connect to the phone.
I tried to reinstall the software (Android 4.0.3) with Odin, in every way possible. First I just wanted to flash a PDA ut it fails. Then I wanted to make full reinstall, I've tried 30 times to put the software with odin. I also tried with repartioning and adding PIT, PDA, PHONE and CSC.
I really don't know what to do... Help!
I am so sorry I tried to do it myself instead of leaving it to a pro
If there's anything that could help, please tell me. In detail...
Thanx a lot!

[Q] guys need help....soft bricked

SOLVED!!!!!!
I need help....
I tried to load a rom on my note and odin froze up....I unplugged it like an idiot and .....brickedy brick......
So I am at this softbrick......"Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies and try again."
So of course I made a download dongle and tested it with my captivate...it worked just fine....but for the note nope....same screen....
So I try to do odin to factory recovery....fails....
I am not a noob....but please treat me as though I am one and tell me what to do. I have read and searched and tried but I am about ready to send it to get unbricked. But I hate to do so since I just know it is a simple solution that I am not thinking of..
Help!!!!!!! I am going to be traveling on WED so Id like to fix this thing tomorrow.

Not yet trying again now....
I was trying to load Black star.....Figures....
But the good news is that it is taking a long time to do something in odin after I started the stock recovery....As far as I am concerned, as long as I dont see failed I am happy.
The only thing that is different is that I am using odin that says android+slp on top.
Wish me luck.:good:

3 different problems going on..
1.
main problem I think.... BAD USB CABLE....It worked off and on. I could still get data off of my phone but it would be off and on...Noticed this while driving today the stupid cable was connecting and disconnecting. I was like ....HUH?
2.
The USB port that I normally use to flash must have wanted a contract renegotiation. I Changed to another port and it started to work.
3. Used a fresh stock att recovery file....
SO....thanks to all of you ....All my stuff is still there too!!!!....Like the phone just caught a cold for a while.:good::victory:
Glad it worked out...redo your title to solved...

no harm in trying again. just keep the stock rom within reach, you never know you might need it again.
also you might want to download the kernel again, just in case there was something wrong with the first download. check the file's md5 if its available.
if it happens again you might want to try another kernel. maybe you're rom/phone don't like Jeboo

your case is described simply as "being stuck on boot". being bricked is a different matter.
yes it happens all the time, try to search the forum for "stuck on boot" just to get an idea of how often this happens.
just flash the stock, flash the rooted kernel, and this time, try one of the apps on play store that have the option to update the Su binary. maybe the update mechanism you tried is old or something, i don't know why this happened to you.

i don't know. but in most cases we (users) don't need to know this technical stuff. just try to find a way around it. flash again, flash another kernel if it happens again, try another way to update the su binary... etc.

Just recover firmware by ODIN, then flash right recovery and download this zip: http://download.clockworkmod.com/superuser/superuser.zip and you are done. You can also try to flash this zip immediately, maybe it'll work!
