Has anyone been able to get usb audio working on the S3? Such as connecting it to a car dock or usb dac? If you have had success, can you list your audio device, firmware and kernel versions.
thanks
Remember to turn it on "Dock sound"
Hi,
I've been using USB audio with Revolution HD and also Omega. Both of these ROMs offer a very stock experience but both are good.
Remember you have to go to "System settings" > "Accessory" and tick "Dock sound" in order to output audio through the USB while connected to a recognised dock.
I would like to know if there are any JB kernels that support dock audio yet as the option is greyed out in all JB ROMs that I've tried.
thanks for the hint, but unfortunately its a no go for me. Im trying to get a pico dac/amp to work with my s3 but its been an uphill battle.

The HeadAmp Pico USB DAC/amp is confirmed working by people on both the international and USB variants of the S3. You're sure you have a USB OTG cable?
My PICO should arrive next week, should also have a red AT&T S3 to go with my white international one by then too, will let you know how I get on.

No worries, will post here and there.
In the meantime I would see if you can try another USB OTG cable, since nnotis definitely has this working on his S3. He says it sometimes takes a couple of connection attempts though, but I presume you've tried all permutations of connection ordering etc.
RE: Bluetooth, I think you misunderstand what the OP is trying to do here.
So using the otg cable and a male to male usb cable I can get the sgs3 to output audio to my usb car stereo?

I don't know why few ROM don't have "accessories" menu . So, there's no usb sound (for dock use).
If you want usb sound, you have to edit /system/etc/audio_poilcy.conf and add |AUDIO_DEVICE_OUT_DGTL_DOCK_HEADSET at the end of devices under audio_hw_modules {
primary {
outputs {

Anyone know where to get a "mini usb" cable to Serial port?.
Sound crazy.... but would like to use my TP2 to connect to my server serial port like as console.
interesting - maybe newer models still have an UART option ... I could use it as well.
Okay finally I found one here on this website
http://www.gridconnect.com/blueportxp.html
not sure it will work :>
no it most likely won't - to make it work, it would need USB-host functionality enabled+driver, USB<>RS232 is not a part of USB HID standard. (I know because I am the person that made "Carbuttons")
Hmm... Make sense...thanks for the advice,... I guess I need to look around again.
you can take a bluetooth-serial Adapter like this
Pico PLUG Bluetooth Adapter Stick Parallel / Seriel
it works fine with my MDA III

So I just saw a tweet about how on a SGS2 you can use a Samsung cord and are thus able to plug in USB devices. I had no idea you could do that, I knew with the Galaxy Nexus you could, but not the SGS2.
Is there any similar thing for the Amaze that anyone had heard of?

Are you talking about the USB micro/mini plug turning into a USB host port instead of a client port?
there have been hack up's for this since the N1 that even let you run a USB video card off of it (with a power adapter hacked into the USB line tho)... like this http://sven.killig.de/android/N1/2.2/usb_host/

Yea, that's what I'm talking about, but looking around online about the SGS2 all you need is that OTG cable and it works. This solution looks fairly intense, with changing the kernel and editing scripts... Thanks anyways, at least we know it's possible.
@faux said the USB OTG code is missing in the HTC kernel. so, either htc or someone write some code in the kernel or it won't happen.
Not sure if the Telus kernel is different but using the stock .config file, it seems OTG is enabled.
OTG support for Qualcomm on-chip USB controller (USB_MSM_OTG_72K) is what is enabled.
Can anyone confirm if the USB host feature works with the Galaxy S3.
Specifically, I'm interested in attaching a USB Keyboard to the device.
After upgrading from honeycomb to ICS on my wife's Galaxy S2 I found that the USB Host function no longer works and I can no longer connect a USB keyboard. (It used to work rather well).
After checking the XDA forums I see that I must root the phone and use another kernel which I'd rather not do given that the S2 is not my phone.
I'll be picking up the Galaxy S3 once the Blue-32gb arrives here in Taiwan so I'm also wondering if anyone can say whether or not the USB Host function works and if anyone has tried out a USB keyboard.
Any advice would be swell
Thanks

Thanks for the reply.
After upgrading to ICS on my wife's S2 the phone continues to read USB Flash drives just fine, but it could not (cannot) read any other devices including USB Keyboards or a USB Mouse.
I want to be able to use my fold-able ASUS USB Keyboard to type documents on the G3 and from what I've seen, the screen is plenty big to be able to make my dream of 'ultra-portable' document typing a reality.
This, plus the fact that I haven't found any fold-able Blue Tooth keyboard that seems to work very well with the S2.

Hi guys, I got an oem MHL to hdmi cable from eBay, one specifically for the galaxy s3.
I received it today and while the phone seems to detect it's attached to a screen (audio set to hdmi out, landscape mode), the two devices I can connect it to both register nothing connected.
Is there something missing? The first device is a monitor using a hdmi to dvi adapter, the second is a 720p tv with hdmi in. The tv allows me to select the hdmi it's plugged into but says there's no signal.
Does anyone have any ideas?

maybe the adapter does not work with the S3 after all.
Maybe you will find some solution in the accessories threat or here
Can you post up the link to the advert you bought it from?

Thanks. I think it should work, the item description is pretty clear.. http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com.au/viewitem?itemId=200829302467
I might see if I can test it on some more tvs. There was a suggestion it may not work with a 720p device.
Sad thing is, they're all Samsung screens.
Are you powering the device from another USB port.
All MHL adapters and cables for the Galaxy S2/3 need to be powered by an external USB port.

Ok it looks like it might be an issue with the ROM, using an AOKP build of JB 4.1.2
Apparently it doesn't support the TV out - shame, I thought I'd finally found the ROM I was going to stick with
Does anyone know a way of getting it working under AOKP?
sorry man, but only on stock roms you can use tv-out. At least for now, lets hope the sources promised for november include mhl tv-out propietary driver from samsung.

Thanks man - I might go to omega's stock-based rom and see if I can get any love with that. Cheers for the help everyone
Edit: For anyone finding this by search later, using a stock ROM does fix the issue. God I can't wait to go back to AOKP though, stock is terrible
I gotta bring this up again... i had same issues when i was on aokp roms. But now.. 4 samsung roms and numerous kernels later i cant get the MHL to work! It did work like 6months ago when i was on a sammy rom, but ever since I flashed the aokp rom once I can't get the cable work again :/ any ideas? If you get the cheap ones there's a huge chance of it not working just from looking through feedback on the Internet. Just spend a bit extra and get a samsung one.
Ive tried mine on many different roms and kernels and it always works.
P.s has anyone managed to get netflix in 16.9 widescreen using the mhl adaptor on jelly bean?:crying:
It's the samsungs 1, that i bought from my carrier. And adapter is fine since my friend got it work with note 2 :/

Hey, I've been through the forums searching out whether the i9100 has the capability to run its audio through a usb dac and have only come up with old and dead threads. This http://blog.jdslabs.com/?p=838 is saying that to utilize at lease their dacs you only have to either be compatible with usbaudioplayerpro or have a cyanogenmod rom (i'm guessing CM10/11). I've checked the compatibility list for the usbaudioplayer (http://www.extreamsd.com/USBAudioRecorderPRO/) and the i9100 isn't officially compatible because it has "No USB host mode" at term I think is synonymous with otg, and I've used an otg checker and my current setup (i9100 with http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...m-gt-i9100-resurrection-remix-v4-0-7-t1436854) has that capability. On top of this the resurrection remix 4.4.2 rom is based on CM11 and so that makes me think that it will have the usbaudio problem solved anyway. I hope that I haven't missed anything significant, and for those wondering, the reason I haven't posted this in the rr thread is that I need ten posts to post there. Hopefully someone can confirm that this is now possible so that I, and others interested can go about buying usb dacs to bypass the shoddy yamaha internal dac.
tldr; is it now possible to run a usb dac on the i9100 using the new kitkat roms (specifically http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...m-gt-i9100-resurrection-remix-v4-0-7-t1436854).
Thanks,
Luke

I've seen that you have always been on the answer end of these threads, hopefully you can tell me why this really is and what steve kondik's work has done for the situation as I've read that he solved the problem for CM (an idea backed up by the original link i posted). Why has his contribution made the difference on other models but not this one? So it's a hardware issue or? Sorry if you just end up repeating yourself but it's not quite making sense.
Thanks,
Luke
I've been on the answer ends on a lot of these threads because for the two yrs I used my S2 (I don't anymore), I was very keen to have USB DAC functionality for myself if it was possible. Yes, everyone is aware of what he's been able to do, but it isn't possible with this device due to hardware limitations.
Trust me, if it was possible, it would have been done by now, as you know you're not exactly the first person who would like this to work.
Edit - It hasn't solved the problem for CM period, it's solved the problem for a number of devices. If you don't believe me, flash CM & see if you can get it to work.
Sorry for the thread resurrection... I happend to browse across the following, which looks promising:
- Galaxy S2 DIY Car Dock with USB audio output (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skgEKS4uzWA)
- [HOWTO] Enable the car dock external audio without Samsung's Home apps by TheBeano (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=980937)

I am also kinda interested in this.
So far it seems that my headset is being detected by my s2 running pac rom.
There is still no sound output.
I would say it is because the lack of usb audio drivers in our devices.
All that is needed is to compile the snd_usb_audio.ko module and load it.
From there on, I assume android can handle it well enough.
Otherwise we can use alsa directly.
Edit: After loading the module, sound works (from chroot) but I don't know how to tell android to output to the headset.

I will look at this at some point after I get my kernel sorted out.
(probably this week)
--- edit ---
after a few more staring at the item (as item gallery does not have better view perspectives), i could be wrong... ha. i'll update back once i have more details ya.

i found this cable, "USB 2.0 Adapter Splitter to micro usb 5pin + Car Aux Stereo Jack audio 3.5mm" - http://www.wish.com/geek/m/c/552f5808563a980bffe08ae8, which allow phone to go into "car mode"... i have yet to try, but i believe with this, you no need to diy your own as mentioned in my previous post; and it seems that you only need to rewire the 3.5mm audio jack to the usb male connector...?
ha. my two cents.
