Wifi tether - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

If I do the official unlock method will root tethers work? I've always wondered this but never looked into it
Shifted from Outer Space

Yes, or u could use Foxfi if you don't root. Sprint has blocked foxfi from appearing in the play store but if you google it you can download it from the webpage.

As long as you have root access you can run a tethering app. It doesn't matter what method you use to gain root

Perm root?

Ok, so I keep reading about the Temp roots out there, and all I really want to do is root only for the WiFi capability. I honestly don't care about rooting other than that. I run a small business and need WiFi hotspot, but don't want to shell out $30 to Sprint every month for something I use maybe once a week. I had my EVO rooted, but got very addicted to flashing, which just took up more and more of my time....ugh... Any thoughts?
TIA
Temp root can't get much easier other than making an app

You can use the latest temp root and use barnacle wifi tether from the market.
Then what are you waiting for. Root your phone and get barnicle from the market.
I'm sorry, I thought u had to be perm rooted to use WiFi...?
Not for the barnacle app. You just need to be able to give it su permissions which you can do with temp root.

With that said, which version of the temp root do you guys recommend?

And don't use barnacle... It's only ad-hoc. Use the latest wifi tether from the web, not the market. There are instructions to make it work here on these forums. When I'm not on the phone I can give you them here

[Q] Have unlimited data (Grandfathered) looking for app to tether

I have a grandfathered unlimited data setup (part of my base
package not a 'data plan'). Is there a non-root way to do wi-fi
tethering short of the official hotspot option?
Open Garden worked really well with my DInc, but no idea if it would work with the Rezound and 4G. I will try it once I am rooted (requires root).

I used open garden on my TBolt and my Galaxy Tab and it worked fine.

Non root? I dont think so... U can tether via usb without root, not wifi that im aware of
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App
I'll try a few today and let you know how they work out.
I am rooted with the one click root, and it has wireless tether built in.
No, wifi tethering requires root. Try usb, or root it. Unlocking bootloader is pretty easy and safe being official and all. Root is also pretty easy.
Have seen some people say that open garden hangs when they try to stop the tethering, but so far it does seem to be the only app that allows tethering in infrastructure rather than ad hoc. And yes you do need to be rooted.

[Q] Tethering Unrooted Rezound to Nexus 7 using wifi hotspot

First off, my rezound is NOT rooted. I use Foxfi on it and can tether using the bluetooth option to my nexus 7, but a lot of the applications don't recognize it as an actual internet connection (example: i can browse around the play store but when i try to download an app it just gets stuck at waiting for network.) Before the ICS update Foxfi wouldn't even let me turn on the WiFi hotspot function. After the ICS update it will now turn on the WiFi hotspot but my nexus 7 will not connect to it. It just gets stuck at "acquiring IP address" and will not go passed that.
tl;dr if someone can help me use my rezounds wifi hotspot to tether to my N7 without having to root i would greatly appreciate it.
What is stopping you from root? I wouldn't even have a smartphone if I couldn't root it. That said, I believe there are decent rootless tether apps.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
For one, I don't have a computer to root with and I really just don't want to go through the hassle or void my warranty. I've tried a lot of apps but none of them seem to let anything connect to the hotspot. Seems like it's something internal blocking it. I should probably have mentioned that I am on a grandfathered unlimited plan. Do you know of any hotspot tether apps I could try that might work?

Maybe try clock work mod. I don't know though because I have root.
Edit
I don't actually have a clue, it is possible there isn't a good rootless tether app that doesn't require usb

I was on a beta test for a a bluetooth networking app from Open Garden. Try searching that in the Play Store.

Edit the title of this thread to Tethering UNROOTED Rezound with Nexus 7. I bet you'll get more relevant people clicking in here.
Don't want to root your phone? You'll have to pay to activate Verizon's built in wifi tether most likely.

Easiest and fastest way to get wifi tether

Wife just got new 3d from Sprint as replacement and wants to use it to tether.. Are there any ways to get it to tether without rooting? If not what's the easiest way just to root so she can tether. It came with the new ics update. Thanks in advance for any information

You have built in wifi tether app

You options are to pay sprint to use the built-in tether, or root and use Wifi Tether.
You can use clockwork tether without rooting but it will cost you $5 for the app and it only works through USB,
I was using the tethering thing and now I got a letter from sprint wanting to terminate my account do to not obeying my contract, I think they only found is because I did a profile or prl update. Before that nothing and I was using it for months, so advice to you all, don't update your profile or prl .keep you all updated when I speak to them on monday

From what I hear you can use WiFi tether app without them knowing about it as long as you don't use their native tethering which of course would have to hacked.

[Q] SM-N900P Wifi Tether

I have rooted my Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3, mainly so I can tether. However, upon installing Wifi Tether (I tried regular as well as TrevE Mod), and entering the usual settings, I found that it does not work with this phone. Does anyone know of a way to use wifi tethering on this phone? Is TrevE going to update his app to work with the Note 3? Developers, if you are seeing this, such an app would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Wife Tether Router is working for me after rooting my note 3. Had to play around with the settings at first. Ad hoc mode works, but none of the other modes would work.

Confirmed. Wifi Tether Router works for me too. $1.95 on the Google Play store. Configure as Method 3 Ad-Hoc.
Do I have to be rooted to use this? I know it's a silly question with a yes answer but I have seen a few post with people saying they have been boot looping like crazy after a successful root with no way to fix it?

I used Chainfire's easy root method the day I got the phone and it works with no problem. Wifi Tether Router does require root, but it is confirmed working where the Trevemod that most people use does not currently work until the dev updates support.

They seem to suspect that TWRP is causing the boot loop (I haven't installed recovery yet) but I'm rooted using chainfire method and haven't had any issues with booting. But yes, rooting would be required to get around sprint's official wireless tether.

This is the app: ($1.95)

Configure according to Dev's 4.3 instructions with the following settings:
Interface - wlan0
Method 3 - HostApd (AD-HOC)
Wifi tether router with the structions below ....only my computera recognized and it works but ....but with any cellphone cant connect ....so anny idead??
It's the fact that you have to use adhoc and not infrastructure ..... have to wait until they fix it

I bought Wifi Tether Router, and it works, but there are a few things I cannot stand about it. A security passcode cannot be set on an ad-hoc connection, so anyone can connect. Also, even after I tap disable, the ad-hoc connection is still active! New devices can still see the hotspot until I turn on my wifi and connect to a network.
Does this work with 4g as well?

Look like I'll be holding off until there's a secure connection. Can't stand open network.
It may not be wifi hotspot, but for a good workaround for now I'm using Pdanet+ on my Note 3 and Bluetooth tethering to my tablets using Pdanet Tablet. This creates a secure VPN connection to the tablet and all my streaming apps work fine on it. Haven't tested it with LTE yet but going to try that tomorrow.
I use Barnacle wifi tether. available in the play store. free and wireless encryption. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.szym.barnacle

Confirmed working on Note 3....but only on ad hoc mode...(open network)....I attempted to download Barnacle wifi app from the play store but message comes up saying that the app is not supported by my carrier (Sprint)....So..I downloaded the latest apk from the Barnacle website to my laptop..then I emailed the apk as an attachment to myself and installed it that way....works good...and its free....

I use Barnacle as well, but doesn't seem to support WEP, only ad hoc, wide open. Anyone having luck getting WEP to work, and if so, care to share your settings?
Same here, unable to get WEP to work with Barnacle, but at least I have some free wireless tether going. Confirmed working, thanks!

what settings are being used for Barnacle? i tried to start it and it fails every time.
Barnacle
I'm using Barnacle as well It seems to work well in ad hoc however, plugged in, it works on tether and leaves no vacant Wifi network. Seems to be a good workaround until the encrypted app is available.
I'm Sorry, I take it back. I unplugged and the whole world can still see my Business. LOL

The native hot spot works now also.
Would seem the best option to me.
The only real caveat at the moment seems to be there is no odex version so must be running a deodex rom.
Which is simple enough and an odex version should be along shortly
