What is AOSP and AOKP? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, What is AOSP and AOKP based of rom? what is the different?

AOSP stands for Android Open Source Project. This is a 'pure' build and AOKP stands for Android Open Kang Project. This has features like rom control so you can do that little bit extra with your device

This never ceases to amaze me.
You could have gotten these answers MUCH faster by typing the text of your exact post into google instead of a post on xda.

Funny you should say that, because that's exactly what I did & lo & behol . I get this thread as a Google search result.
Why did I choose this search result? Because it's being given answered on a well known developer forum which I trust. Therefore, it seems logical to ask such a question here. Thanks to the poster for the answer

-AOSP stands for Android Open Source Project, and it is headed by Google.
-CYANOGENMOD (CM) is based on AOSP with their own customizations. It is headed by CM team.
-AOKP stands for Android Open Kang Project. It's based on CYANOGEN MOD with their own (more) customizations. It's headed by AOKP team.
***So in summary, ***
-AOKP is more customizable than CYANOGENMOD, faster but a bit less stable than CYANOGENMOD.
-AOKP is compatible with almost any MOD made for CM Roms e.g Themes.
-Any bug present in CYANOGENMOD will also be present in corresponding AOKP version and thus on all AOKP based Roms.
-because AOKP contain it's own bugs + the native bugs present in it's parent CYANOGENMOD, it is a little less stable than corresponding CYANOGENMOD.
I hope this helps everyone.

As to which one is faster or stable is really relevant to device and user.

No offence but how can you have 939 posts and not know that all the ROMS mentioned are not individual OS's but merely 'flavoured mods' of the base Android OS.
How man you also not know that there are literally dozens if not hundreds of custom ROMS of every possible flavour and style.
Use the search button m8
You don't call them os. You call them rom.

No, I know the ROMs are modded. But I mean is there any other ROMs with completely different UI?

[Q&A] - Vanilla RootBox - Unofficial

Hi,
This is an unofficial Q&A thread for GT-I9300 Vanilla Rootbox where we can try to help each other. Please leave all things that have nothing to do with development out of the official thread and post them here.
The development thread was closed by Bajee because he finds most of the posts useless. I contacted him and asked him if it would be a good idea to start a support thread for his rom. The answer was "go ahead".
So here it is.
Thanks for opening this thread!
Maybe you could ask Bajee if he would place a link to this thread in his last post at the official dev thread? Just for others seeking help...

Thanks for setting this up, shame the dev thread has been closed.
Sorry, if this is a stupid question, but will we still get details of updates, new builds (full and nightly) for this ROM on our S3?
Can I also ask the make the first support request on this thread: how can I increase volume and vibration intensity? I can't find anything in settings that makes any difference. Can anyone recommend a 3rd party app or kernel that will help?
Thank you!

Let's hope development isn't lost. It's the finest rom i have ever used.
I did report a bug but haven't got an answer to it.
Checked a few things and noticed the following:
Swype on stock keyboard is not working when language is set to dutch.
When it's set in english there are no issues.
Using slide-it for now, hope it will get solved.

Speakerphone control or yank kernel will increase your speaker.
What I have on 3.8 is that the lock screen widgets are inverted.dash clock for example is expanded on normal view.

I think not, there a new nightly so...
Hi guys,
Started using this rom just before the thread got closed and have one or two questions about it if any one could help.
1. When sending long text messages it is split into multiple messages, any way of stopping this and getting it to send as a single message.
2. I'm unable to change the CPU speed using the built in software, is this due to the stock kernel, if so which kernels are working with this version of android. If usually use siyah but as far as I can see it's not yet compatible.
Cheers in advance and hopefully we will continue to get future updates of this brilliant rom.

Will yank kernel also improve vibration sound/intensity when the phone is silent? It is quite poor at the moment.
Also, does anyone have clear instructions for installing yank kernel on an S3 with vanilla rootbox rom? I am finding the instructions a little confusing. I have installed other kernels, such as Siyah, and various other ROMS before, so I'm not a complete noob!
many thanks

As i tried the rom I found it bugfree but later i came across with only one bug, that is the WIFI tethering is not working... other things work fine with it..
and Wifi tethering can be resolved by a third party app such as 'WIFI TETHER FOE ROOT USERS'.
so thats why i called it bugfree.. if i m wrong then apologies please..

[ROM+KERNEL] [AOSP] [4.3] [JWR66Y+JSS15R] [PSX+PSK] [v8.5] [10/28/2013] Pure Speed X

Welcome to PSX (Pure Speed X)
A collaboration between myself, rustyjay, and Banks. I bring the speed jay adds the features...and “QC” and Banks is the scriptmaster and lean Rom machine.
PSX is a fast, built from source (4.3_r1.1) Rom with an emphasis on speed and performance. Our goal is to provide unrivaled performance, stability, and a lightweight Rom with a handful of valuable features. We are not, nor ever will be focused on adding every feature out there. We will always be searching for ways to make it faster, more stable, more secure, and feature rich, but never at the cost of performance.
I want to thank all of those who supported me on this journey either through helping me learn, aiding me with issues, or testing for me. I especially want to thank @rascarlo for allowing me to post my builds in his thread for so long. He is a gracious host and the epitome of how a developer should behave and a thread should be run. I intend to do my best to follow his example in this area.
This thread will be a place of peace and community. We wont tolerate bickering, drama, or flaming of other members, whether seasoned or brand new. Not only will OT conversation be allowed, it is encouraged as I believe if fosters a better sense of community and an environment of sharing knowledge. Members will be treated with respect here and all questions will be answered to the best of our abilities in as timely a manner as possible.
Feature requests will be welcomed. We will however not add anything that compromises the goal of this project or is not deemed valuable to the Rom as a whole. Certain features will never see there way in including, but not limited to, CM PIE and Theme manager. Speed will always be the focus here with features taking a back seat.
Now sit back, enjoy yourselves, and oh yea........buckle up!

Thank you so much!
There has been some hard work put into this by some people that are just getting this down and still learning. I am surprised we actually got something put together, lol. Cause I smoke too dam much.
Wow. This ROM is exactly what I have been looking for....the best of heavily modded Roms with the lightness of aosp....slight customizations......one suggestion, a transparency slider in settings for nav and status bar. Other than that its awesome so far ?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Are you ruling out PIE in all forms here or specifically CM's iteration?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
One feature that i miss a lot on aosp based/minimal custom roms is the Theme Manager..
If i see a custom roms saying built for speed and stability and dont have theme manager, customizable nav bar, and customizable quick settings, its all the same for me, they are all stock roms, even if theres addition to some options.
I just want to ask; is adding theme manager support makes the whole rom slow and unstable?
Coz i cant find a right answer for me. Thanks.
I may try this rom soon if its different from other aosp (4.3) minimal roms here in xda.
Anyone having Google now issues?

Only question I have is that when I updated to v6 and reflashed the stock launcher it reset my setup. Is there anyway to avoid that?

Not easily....you'd have to put the stock launcher in the zip and then flash it....one of the main reasons I hate the stock launcher....no ability to backup/restore stuff. Seems like a basic function for such an important app.
