Hello,
I run into rather strange problem. My phone, china Android 2.3.4, is working quite weel instead of this:
If I use WIFI, then turn it off and try to use mobile data connection, it is not possible.
Icon showing that mobile connection should be active is on, but no data comming through.
I tried switchiing to airplane mode, changing access point names and so on, but nothing worked. Only solution was to restart the phone, after that all works normally - until connecting to wifi.
After rooting my phone I tried to figure out more with Teminal emulator. It seems that after releasing wifi connection and turning interface down, mobile interface comes up with same IP as before - it should ask network for new one. But, more important, route table is empty (or containing one entery and no default gateway at all)
I tried bringing mobile interface up and down several times, tried forcing it to use dhcp (timeout), without success.
Is there a way to "reset" whole networking system from shell? Something like partial restart, which would be probably quicker than full restart.
Thank you for any ideas.
Same issue on my Galaxy S3. After being connected to wifi, i can't use mobile data connection and the only way to make it come back is reboot.
Any suggestion?

I'm having the same problem with an LG Optimus F6. Did you ever get this resolved with your phone?

I have a HTC Fuze. The last few ROMS that i have been using (Energy, RRE, Tael), all the Apps always use the 3G internet to do their work even if a much faster Wifi is connected. Is there any way to make all apps(including things like email) globally prefer the Wifi when available? Also I dont want to have to keep changing settings to do this, It simply needs to be "If Wifi available use it, else use 3G"
Thanks in advance.
What i did was to go to start>settings>connections>advanced>select networks and change the default connection to the internet to "My work network", rather than my 3G network. This way, if theres any connection to the internet needed, my phone will use my wifi connection. The problem with this, however, is that when you dont have a wifi connection available, the phone will not connect to the internet unless you change the above setting back to your 3G network. If anyone knows a better way, please let us know
no i cant keep switching. thats too much trouble. there must be a better way.

Does it automatically connect to WiFi when a known network is within range even when the phone is in sleep? If yes, does it disconnect once not in use for a while?

As far as I know there is no way to do it automatically. You can use one or the other but they must be switched manually. All HTC phones have always worked this way. Maybe if the demand was high enough which apparently it is not a Chef could come up with an app that would do it. But for now you must do it manually.

that is extremely failurous. not preferring the fastest internet connection is major fail. did not know that.
My phone does this automatically. It uses the WiFi whenever it's on. If the WiFi is off, it uses the data connection.
Maybe I'm understanding it wrong?

what the heck? how? u must help me find out..
i think it does prefer wifi over 3g in WM 6.5...!!
to check it out here is wt i've done....turn data connection off...check that its on in the notification manager "when u click on the task bar"..then run any app that needs internet " opera, msn messenger, email...etc" while this app is online..
now there r two ways to check it
1-the notification manager & see if it turned to 3g data connection...if so u should find a timer running in ur service provider section, if not then its only using wifi
2-check the communication manager & see if it turned the data connection on, if its off then its using wifi...
thats how it is with my touch pro...i'm using energy rom nov. 08 build
Indeed it prefers wifi connections 2 data, but You have to :
1. Have Known wifi spots in range
2. Keep wifi connection on, while in stand by
Keep in mind that if a program starts to use the data connection it wont change to use the wifi one. So firstly connect and then open programs.

apparently its some sort of combo of this. i am using 6.5. any apps that have been using 3g continue with it. and i have to go to the comm screen and turn off data to force new apps to consume wifi. which isnt too bad, certainly not as bad as going to the network options. i would wish they made this a bit more seamless like with the desktop technology, i can switch from wired to wireless lan without even dropping a skype call.

now i have discovered a new problem. even if i open the app after i have wifi turned on and data turned off, some apps just dont want to use the wifii.
Bing maps and google maps for example just tell me there is no internet.
this is really pissing me off, whats the point of having wifi on a phone if the apps wont use it. i dont really care about the google location service if the data is through the internet, but atleast turn on.
lame.
Hey I'm new to android, just got a vibrant last week. Decided to unlock it as I travel a lot. The unlock worked, but now I'm having issues with my wifi. I can connect to a wireless network but I cant load pages. The wireless signal is strong and I tried with different routers, but still no luck. Looked through the forum and googled it but couldn't find a solution. If some one could please help with this, it would be much appreciated
try clearing your current wifi settings including remembered connections, passwords, and everything else...then re-scan for networks all over again, that's all I can think of for now
By that you mean just gong into settings->wireless and networks->wifi settings and then just forget the net work, rescan, and rejoin the network? If so, I did that but am still getting the same result. If you can think of anything else or if I didnt do what you suggested correctly please let me know. Thanks

yeah, thats what I meant :/....hmmm...sounds like your connection is working, can you download stuff from the market or is it just the browser? cause I unlocked mine too and wifi works fine
No I cant download anything from the market. I cant do anything that requires an internet connection, but it does show that I am connected to a network.

I sure hope so, thanks for your help
Have you been able to try another network? My first thought was it was in Ad-Hoc mode but I could be wrong. If nothing else restore to stock firmware and then try a different unlock.
Happened to me too. It would show the wifi icon on the notification bar but wouldn't load pages. I'd go to the settings and it'd say can't turn off wifi or can't turn on wifi. And when it was "on" I'd say connecting to modem then it'd just stop. When I was using the browser on wifi it would load a page even when I had full bars. I had to turn it off then back on to load another page. Is this similar to the problem your having?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I hope this doesn't sound stupid but yesterday I uninstalled Advanced Task Manager and poof my wifi started working again. The phone also seems to suffer from less occasional lag without it installed, but that's another story for another thread. Prior to this I had to manually turn my wifi connection off and on, but even that didn't always work. Since the uninstall I have not my wifi connection once. I am currently using the stock rom, rooted with minor adjustments here and there.
hi guys, i also have this problem.
i will be taking the phone in to the tmobile store on thursday.
it shows that i am connected via wifi; however, anything that requires an internet connection does not load.
very frustrating, since just yesterday i used the samsung kies software to tether a network for my laptop. i was testing the capability of the vibrant to act as a modem, and it worked just fine.
any help would be appreciated!
thank you
Charlie
connected but not connected
I also have this problem.
In my Vibrant shows that i connected, but i can not load pages. Someone
found any solution to this problem?
Hi all,
This is happening to me too. Rebooting seems to get Wifi working correctly again. But the problem comes back eventually.
Maybe a bug in the latest JI6 update?
Wi-fi problem.
Someone found any solution for this problem?
Froyo's update will fix this issue?
Thanks.

Hey Guys.
Recently my WiFi symbol in the notification tray turned grey and didn't go blue again.
I've noticed that when the symbol is GREY, I'm not able to access Facebook (through it's main App),it shows "Updating" only.
But to my surprise, the net works fine in the Browser ( inbuilt browser)
After analyzing the problem, I found that whenever I turned my Laptop on, the WiFi signal goes Grey..
And when I switch it off, it turns blue.
On further investigation, I came to know that both the devices (laptop and phone) have different IP's
Plus, another android device works well with the laptop being on.
I'm using Xolo Q600
Android 4.2.1
*no root, nothing...I'm amateur*
WiFi Router NetGear N150
Any help will be thankful.
Lakshya.
Have you tried reseting your modem? or forgetting the wifi net with both devices and set up the connection again?
Hope this helps

I have an Asus Slider Sl101. Around 3 days ago, our router had been changes as the previous one wasn't working properly. Our carrier is Charter and our router is Netgear. We hooked every device up to that new router and everything worked fine, including the tablet. But later on in the day,the Internet on there stopped working.
It shows that it's connected, but when I try to access the internet through the browser, it does not work. The blue line at the top of the browser starts up, moves forward a little, and stops entirely while the browser then says "Webpage Not Available". Apps that require Internet, such as Accuweather and my SAT apps, fail to work as well. Other devices that use our wifi include another computer and Nintendo DSi and 3DS. They all work fine. Our router shows that our android is connected to it, as well.
I've tried the static IP stuff, restarted the router, left the wifi off on the tablet for a few hours, and turned it off and off. I even factory resetted it and not even that helped.
I apologize in advance if I haven't given enough information; that's as much as I know save for whatever I can include from the tablet (IP Address and such).
Try changing encryption method

Also, I just went to Starbucks and the Internet worked fine, so I know that it's not the tablet that giving problems.

It can be modified from the admin panel of your router. Obviously, each connected device must be upgraded to the new encryption method.
However, you can simply do a test and see if the connection works

Oh! Under "security", it says "WPA/WPA2 PSK". I believe it has always said that, even with our old router.

Probably
If the problem is not of the device, many network problems are usually caused by encryption or are due to the channel where the router works. Both settings are settable in the admin panel.
Try changing these.. Remember to make a backup first!

The things is, though, my tablet was working when we changed the router. Ever since then, nothing has changed when it comes to settings and all. Every other mobile device is working well and the computer out front that uses wifi works well.
In your eyes, the router seems to be the main problem, right? Do you think if we call our internet provider--Charter-- and ask for a new one that it might be able to work as it will be new and all? Or will it most likely not help too much?

If the problem is the settings of the router, this will not solve the problem..
The device successfully connects to other networks? You can do this test to see if the problem is the device or not.
hi sir i have already hack wifi paasword but not connected
password is correct sometime before i have connect
Is the router 2.4 or 5ghz, and is the tablet the same?
I have Samsung Note 3 Neo(SM N750) running Lollipop 5.1.1, since 3 months I'm observing that my phone is not connecting to any wifi network at my office. I have an personal alcatel hotspot to which it connects at home, but it is not connecting to the same device/network at my office location. My colleagues are able to access without issues, infact my phone is not connecting to any of the available networks at this location. Sometimes it connects for few seconds and shows 'Saved, secured' or Authentication error occurred(though entered correct password). After refreshing it goes up to obtaining IP address and then back to saved to secured.
I tried turning off power saving(*#0011#), forget and reconnect but nothing worked.
This is weird as this is location specific issue, not sure what to toggle. Looking for some expert advice.
Hi , pobably your phone is okay but you are not allowed to use those networks. Maybe someone had put the limits how many devices can be connected for example limit is 5 devices , and you are 6 person who is trying to connect and of course it will be just saved . If you are able , try to reset ruter to default settings , also try to onnect to your home network and see if is connecting. Last you can try is to do Factory Reset , but before that back up your data. Good Luck : )

There is no restriction as such, I'm not even able to connect to my colleague's mobile hotspot. Yeah, factory reset is the last option, looking for some hints before I do that.
