Hey all, my dad and I both have the Samsung s3. So as all would do we put them next to each other and compare them.
We noticed that his screen is less bright and less clear by only slight a bit. For the comparison we turned auto mode off and put it to the darkest. His phone 3 weeks older then mine though, is this normal of is his phone broken?
Ps. When I watch a video in YouTube I could double tap to go full screen on my old phone. This doesn't work anymore. Any ideas how I can go full screen? I don't have auto rotate on.

I want to record some lectures but don't want to disturb the people behind me. I also want to record a lecture (powerpoint) in a dark room where any brightness at all is a bad thing.
Anybody know of a way to turn down/off screen brightness during video record? Even if it wasn't distracting to others in class, what an utter waste of battery to have it 100% brightness while recording...
uh huh screen off to record "lectures" lmao the only thing i can think of would b one of the spy cam apps
There's an app that fakes a dead phone by turning the screen off, I guess you could try that
Very interesting. Spy cam / dead phone apps. I'll have a peek.
I remember for the Evo 3D (Sense 3) there was an option in the camera settings where the user could uncheck "force max brightness" -- this would cause the phone to respect the system brightness (which could be set lower). Maybe the option is just hidden in Sense 4.
I would like to have this option too. Hope some one comes up with a mod....
A mod would be useful, but a quick and easy workaround would be to cover the phone with a piece of paper/notebook.

Hi all,
So I was watching the latest Dexter episode on my phone during my commute to work, and I noticed that in low light scenes, there seemed to be an oversaturation of red. Pretty much Dexter looked like he had a really, really bad sun burn all throughout his body whenever there was a scene with low light. I checked out the video on my laptop, and during the low light scenes, the color of his skin was fine.
Now, I know that these displays are normally calibrated for such oversaturation to make the colors "pop" more, but this was pretty extreme -- his face was more red than pink/white. Is this a problem with just my phone or is it a known problem with displays calibrated for oversaturation? Also, is there a way i can tweak the phone so that it's not like this?
Thanks for you help in advance!

Ahha! That seems to have done the trick. Is there a way for my phone to automatically change it to "movie mode" when I am playing a video file? The auto adjust feature was on, but it never did adjust it when I was playing that movie file.....
Thanks again!
I've been searcing Play Store for an app that use motion detection by the front camera to wake up the screen on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 when someone enters the room, or is walking near the device. The Camera Trigger (Motion detect) app is one that looked promising, but unfortunately there is no trigger for activating the screen. I also looked at Tasker but there is as far as I can see currently no event available to use motion detected by camera to activate the screen.
The reason I would like this is because the Tab is used by my family to display the Google agenda/calendar for all family members and their activities. Instead of having to turn on the device it would be a cool hi-tech feature to automatically turn on the screen when someone walks in the room. I understand that using the camera for such a purpose would make the battery drain quicker, but that's ok as the Tab is alway in it's docking station with a power adapter. Also I'm not using the lock screen/there is no security as this is a Tablet used by the family.
Anyone?

I want the exact thing
Hi there,
I just wanted to say that i actually want the exact thing:
An app that turns on the screen, when motion is detected by the front facing camera
and turns it off again, if there hadn't been motion for a couple of seconds...
Have you found a solution / an app that can do that?
or anyone else here ?
I'm surprised / sad that it looks like there isn't an app for that...
Me too.
I am using a Gbox to display my security cams on a tv mounted up in the corner of the kitchen. Right now I have we turn on the TV with a remote when walking into the room, but it would be extremely sexy if it the screen woke when it detected motion and went to sleep after 10 mins or so.
Hello,
I'm having an annoying problem whenever I'm talking on my S3 outside, on a cold day like today. The screen turns pitch black and only the bottom menu and back touches are lit. It's not the first time. When I enter inside, the screen brightness slowly returns normal but even so, if i turn off the auto sensor, the screen brightness is ok, even outside. Somebody else having this problem ? Thanks.

Anyone else notice this issue.
When I use the phone normally. The auto brightness is fine.
But when I use the Camera, I might be in the middle of a Shot or Viewing a shot and it Dims and will not Go back to Bright even after touching lots of controls.
Not until I exit the Camera and Viewer does the screen go normal brightness again. It's driving me crazy.
If I shut auto brightness off it's fine. But I really want auto brightness.
I tried disabling "Auto Sleep" and it still does it.
Had that happen a few time looking at downloaded pictures (not with the camera yet) , I'd look at for a bit and if I handed my phone off to someone or it slipped out of my fingers when I was zooming on picture. It doesn't happen all the time though and I usually go and uncheck auto brightness when it guessing. Maybe the light sensor thinks the lighting has changed when it hasent then doesnt reset

Yeah something like that is going on. And yeah I think it's often (maybe always) when I'm viewing the picture I just snapped it dims.
If you go back to camera or other app it goes bright again. It's really weird.
I tried the Gallery and it dims "Normally" as it should and when you touch the screen it goes bright again.
But if you view the snapshot you just took from the little preview thumbnail button. It dims rather quickly and if you touch the screen it will not turn back to normal brightness.
I was looking at a screen shot when it happened to me, as soon as I touched the screen it dimmed and wouldn't go back. Now that I think about it I conditioned myself to un check auto brightness when I look at pics or videos.
