And my 1tb external hard disk cant be read either... Im on Cyanogen Timescape Rom and krsh v3 kernel... Is there any fix for this... Can our devices handle large hard disks?

ehm, make sure ur hard disk has its own power supply
or maybe ur hard disk is in ntfs format n u missing ntfs module in your kernel.
found it how to add module but it is in GB
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768222
just use search button, u may found what u need

Those modules are made for .58 kernel. OP, can you tell us on which OS version you are and do you have unlocked bootloader? If you're on unlocked bootloader you can install custom kernel which have this modules built-in.

Hard drives and USB sticks will only work if they are in FAT format. NTFS if you have the module.

Yeah, there's just not enough power in phone's usb port to spin the hard drive, that's why you need external power source.

Do it in windows shell (win key+r and type cmd), navigate to folder where you have adb installed first. You can also access it in Terminal Emulator app in phone, just turn it on and type dmesg.

Btw, OTG does work on the stock Ray kernel - A Nokia CA-157 cable works perfectly if you want to connect a mouse or keyboard. If you want to connect a USB memory stick or card reader, you'll also need a rooted phone, a kernel module, and a helper app to load everything. (You'll also need a compatible USB memory stick - if it draws too much power, it won't work as the phone can only provide 200ma on its USB port)
I documented this all on my blog: http://blog.grapefruitopia.com/post/17548799734/using-usb-storage-devices-on-a-rooted-xperia

A little addition to this:
- Xperia Ray users ofcourse have to use a little converter piece before we can use a mini USB OTG cable. I got this with my TomTom car charger.
- The module loader app couldn't keep the usb-storage.ko module loaded. The Q5 app could see my USB stick, then I mounted it, but I could never see it with root explorer. When I checked back, the device wasn't mounted anymore and the module wasn't loaded anymore. I found this package that flashes the module and lets the Q5 app load it. So no need anymore for the module loader app. Now I can acces my USB stick, card reader, externally powered HDD etc flawlessly :d
- Glad to find that USB mouses and keboards works from stock with no extra apps. I can even use my wireless ones.
Hah - got this working on on my rooted stock ICS .562:
go grab doomlords modules here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224676
and load them using doomlords module loader here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224676
Then use the Q5 USB Memory Stick Manager from here:
http://android.gval.biz/

You can use OTG on your stock ICS.Only optical usb mouse and usb keyboard are supported. If you want to use your usb pendrive and usb hardisk via OTG cable on your phone then you need to root your phone.
After Rooting You can use USB Storage Manager for ARC or USB Storage Manager to mount your pendrive on your phone. The mounted pendrive will be in sdcard\usbstorage\[Pendrive Contents].
You can download the Software from here :

Did you use the BusyBox Installer to install the Busybox? If yes, then these apks are incompatible with ICS.

Thanks for the fast reply, so... first I tried with the busybox installed by the doom zergrush method (I used the downgrade and upgrade root method), then I tried with the busy installer. But no success on both, maybe is incompatible indeed. Thanks again!

Yes, i have already tried and it is working on rooted stock ics . Till now android only supports fat and fat32, ntfs is not supported. You can format your pendrive using fat.. it works
well i have already mounted ntfs & raw file system on gingerbread using a module and an app named q5 memory manager. dunno if the module/app support ICS. although i dont frequently use ntfs or raw file system for pendrives.
how about init.d on stock ICS kernel?

Is possible also achieve usb otg installing the stock usbotg.apk from gingerbread .69 firmware?
EDIT: I installed the usbotg.apk from ginger .69 firmware, no problems, the system are ok also. But nothing happens here... I'm starting to think what the issue is my cable, is just the oficial from Sony with an adapter, because USB OTG cable here *Brazil* isn't normal --'. See the images below. And the adapter is working normal is an USB AF to USB AF Adapter.
EDIT2: I saw this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092493, but i think Sony made the oficial cable to plug the phone into PCs in a way like this, so maybe just the adapter should work. LOL let me weld some metal. That is it, thanks guys.

Dude!
So, I bought a normal cable "usb to mini usb", then I soldered the pins like the tutorial, and using my adapter I made a homemade usb otg cable what works... and not sure if the succes of otg on ICS comes from the otg.apk, but it worked for me, and now I can use a mouse or a keyboard usb normally, is so cool xD. The great surprise is the USB hardware normally fed by my phone, of course theres a drain considerable of battery. Thanks for everyone!
EDIT: I mounted my usb driver using the StickMount in Google Play. So USB OTG here is working like a charm... as a complete computer!!
I should try this. im looking now for the otg usb.

Attaching any USB peripheral requires the device to have USB On-The-Go (OTG) support. A lot of the newer (and high-end) devices have this, but yours does not. So it's not possible. It's not just a simple software mod. USB OTG requires the device to have a USB port that's capable of delivering power output to power low power USB peripherals like keyboards, mice, flash drives. For that same reason, in the video it is mentioned that only low power webcams work. It's at the hardware level, so no it won't be possible with your phone at all.

Yes you're right, your device does indeed have full OTG support. Sony never mentioned it in the official specifications, but I did a search in your device's forum and found info about it. In that case, I guess the procedure to getting the webcam to work is more hardware specific, so can't say whether it can or cannot work with your device. Your best bet is to ask a dev for your device about it, and see if they're interested to look into it. Also, the guy in the video said only low power webcams work. This is because the USB port can't deliver that much power output.
Having USB Host mode and even a powered USB hub is not enough to use a USB webcam.
You need kernel support and a custom app that accesses video4linux interface (/dev/videoX) OR a patched android framework that routes video4linux interface to android's standard camera API.
In other words, you must be able to modify and compile your own kernel and custom ROM for your particular device.

You can't just edit the boot.img, you have to edit the source and then compile it. Either learn how to program etc. Or ask a developer for your device to have a look.

hi dear
for your broblem
first of all you must buy a cable that mach your phone port
second your phone must be unlock and root
third you must use modules that is with kernel (flash with CMW) and then install ModuleLoader.apk and select the modules you installed
then you must install a app (like stickmount.apk) to mount the usb you attached
you can found apps in apknew site
may this help you

I sow that page but I've no idea why you cant see the drive in your computer
first of all you must ENABLE your USB debuging from your device

maybe your phone is in MTA mode so you can see your drive under your phones name in camputer
and make sure your cable is working fine.

Yes, I had enable mass_storage in buil.prop file before flashing that zip. Actually it used to work in FXP 148. But now am on FXp 152 ROm, and now that patch is not working.
I have USB device drivers for my phone from some other path. But thats not getting identified by driver update.
Currently, my phone gets identified in MTP mode in Device Manger, but no drivers installed (shows as yellow question mark).

Another way to connect to computer?

I've p970 but it's micro usb port doesnt work and my computer never read the phone. I want to flash it with official rom but what the other way to connect to computer if usb port had bad problem and my phone hardbrick now
Sent from my LG-P765 using xda app-developers app
If u know requires you run adb command through cmd then unfortunately u can't do much.
But if your device is like mine, all u need is to put the rom into the sd card(using a card reader since ur usb is broken) then go into recovery, wipe and flash.
This is just a rough idea. I don't own ur device so i can't really say much.

Question:
Is it possible in xperia or similar devices? thanks

No, the mount usb option is for otg cable. I am talking about usb cable, when we connect usb cable with our computer and android phone, the computer dont consider our android phone as usb storage rather it treat as android phone.

Hello waqar89,
I had the same problem months ago, but I've found the solution here in the forum, there is an app created by some users of this forum that turns Xperia S/P/U from MTP to Mass Storage. I've been using it and it works so fine!
The only requirements that you need are:
->You have to be in stock ICS ROM
->You need your phone rooted and with busybox installed
Here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1744878
About the other problem... trying to connect your phone to your car's music player I think it's not possible by USB, I tried it to with no luck.
When I want to connect it to my car I do it with a jack-to-jack cable...
Hope it helped to you
