Amon RA/TWRP interop - HTC Rezound

Anyone know if backups made by one can be used to recover in the other?

Also curious. I've considered switching from AmonRA to TWRP just because Titanium Backup and a couple other apps I have support TWRP, but not AmonRa. Wondering what exact differences in the format, if any, there are between CWM, AmonRA, and TWRP backups.

I believe that with a renaming of the folder that will work. Also TWRP is much better imo. Speed, touch etc

I agree completely, unfortunately my rom has some mods that use the Villain theme engine which, apparently, does not work with TWRP -_-

I seem to remember being able to restore across the different recoveries. It's been a while though so I'm not super sure anymore. I only use amon ra on this phonw though. Never used TWRP before.

Does twrp contain all the features from Amon Ra?

Not SU. But, if you are already rooted, go to TWRP. Just easier to use.

A wipe is a format. It can wipe/format data, system, cache, etc

My solution is to just use both. I switch when needed and then use that one until its required to switch again lol

[Q] flashable system wiping zips

So do the old flashable wipe zips for the EVO 4G work for us or are they different? I'd rather flash one wipe zip before I flash a rom instead of going through the settings hitting a bunch of different ones each time I flash.
I tried caulkins format all and it didn't work, it said it was using some old scripting way.
But I too would like a flashable zip to wipe.

twrp has a "wipe everything" option, or something similar. I used it when flashing and so far, no issues.

It doesn't wipe the system partition. You have to do that manually..

Did devs get too lazy and not put a format system line in the updater script now?
I've never wiped or formatted system.
Anyways.. Link me to the original files. I'll look at them and see what I can come up with

Might be a stupid question, but just to be clear: manually wiping with TWRP means going into the format menu and "formatting /system"? I'm just getting used to this recovery, still having amon ra flashbacks from my og evo days.

Not sure what device you are coming from but Evo 4G we have always needed (strongly advised) to properly wipe/reformat before flashing. It wasn't needed in most cases if just updating nightlies but moving from rom to rom it was a basic requirement to prevent any bugs popping up from remnants of the previous rom.
I don't know the guys, any of them, personally but I don't know if it has anything to do with being lazy.

This is what I'm talking about in the updater script
format("ext4", "EMMC", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p23");
This should be doing the same thing that happens when you do it through recovery. And yes it is in the updater scripts that i have looked at. I'm looking at the OG EVO script now.

Its possible. Maybe your recovery is outdated so it doesn't have the option to use internal sd. Use the latest romracer's recovery.

Dont use the one from rom manager. Romracer's recovery is different from the one from rom manager. Romracer's recovery is specialized for our atrix, so it can detect atrix partition, including partition for webtop and emmc (internal storage).

While I agree with the previous post about using Romracers recovery, I don't agree with the reasoning, but you should definitely use Romracers. The ROM Manager version, if I am remembering correctly does not allow backup to external sdcard? I forget, but in any event, Romracer's recovery is the most stable and widely used for the Atrix. (Oh yeah, and avoid touch recovery).
Thank you guys,...
I wonder, why they include ROM Manager in roms if we cant really use them?
Same thing with my Asus Transformer

[MOD]Superwipe

This is a modified wipe. What does it do? It prepares your phone for flashing a new ROM, or an updated ROM where the developer has requested a full wipe.
This zip will wipe /boot /data /system /cache and /devlog. Dalvik-cache is stored in /data so it gets wiped with /data.
It will then reformat those partitions optimally, which should give a slight increase in filesystem speeds. YMMV, seems to be a definite improvement for me, but could be placebo.
Credit for the Format options to TrevE as noted in the zip file.
Note: This is a COMPLETE ROM wipe. The only things it leaves alone are your SD Card(s). I recommend using this before flashing a new ROM. I also recommend you nandroid just in case.
Also if using TWRP, under settings, tell it to use rm -rf for restores, or it will overwrite the format options that are set up.
I take no responsibility if your phone explodes in your hand, burns down your house and eats your dog.
Nor do I take any responsibility for anything else. Use at your own risk.
Let me know if there are any issues please.
Edit: Updated Superwipe. Now wipes /boot, and all extraneous pauses have been removed.

media is on your sdcards
/sdcard/media (internal card)
/sdcard2/media (external card)
It's not in /data.
I never understood the point of these zips. Custom recoveries can do everything these do.
For example:
Factory reset/data wipe formats both /data and /cache
Then when you flash a Rom zip it will format /system and completely overwrite /boot
For me personally its just extra steps to flash something else.

Mmmhmm. I typically agree with you. However it's actually easier (and fewer steps) to flash one zip then to manually do each one.
And you should always wipe system anyhow. Sometimes devs make mistakes and forget to wipe /system. Doesn't hurt anything to manually wipe /system.
For the record I normally wipe manually in recovery, but enough people had asked for a wipe zip that I made one.
This one doesn't do that silly 'wipe 3 times' stuff...that has never been necessary, though hundreds of people will say I'm wrong. It just does one good format on each filesystem that's necessary for a clean flash.
Is this device specific
Great!! been waiting for this, not better than a superwipe....Thank You!!!

Since partition IDs change from device to device, I'd say yes.
If you were thinking of using it on the HTC One X for example I'd advise against it, since I don't know that the partitions are laid out the same way.
For the wipe it doesn't matter what ROM you're on, but it DOES matter what PHONE you're on.
Sorry I'm coming from a tablet where the sdcard was mounted on /data/media. I figured it was the same here.

Nope. Or at least not on my phone, which is reasonably stock (ViperROM).
Obviously I'm hoping people do their normal nandroids before wiping their phones, but if anyone DOES run into anything that isn't right I'd appreciate it being brought to my attention so I can fix it.
This is awesome. Sorry, but just to be clear what does the OP mean by switching a setting in TWRP recovery for restores?

Just asking, but are you sure you have the exact same options checked (wimax, system, etc) as you had when you made the backup?
I would also have it make a backup of the existing software, to make sure it generates the correct file structure on the SD card, and then copy the one you want to restore onto the phone. The backups should be in folders sorted by date if memory serves, so I would copy the entire folder to the new device.
I might also try by un-checking the "enable MD5 checking of backups files" box.
Good luck,

I know backups and restore do work. I backed up Vigor360, installed Newts Sense 4.1, and restored Vigor360.
I ported over version 6.0.1.0. Backups and restore are slow as everything but a nice recovery over all.
The changelog of version 6.x.x.x
Changes:
New backup format that deduplicates data between backups.
Faster backups.
Fixed restores > 2GB.
Minor UI tweaks (new background, animated Android)
LIES about being faster. But of course it wasn't designed for our devices
Would anyone be interested in me porting over 4ext recovery?
