(Q)-curious, wireless/USB tethering on ICS - Optimus One, P500, V General

this might of been discussed before bit I'm curious why doesn't wireless or USB tethering work on ICS roms? If it does work on the latest updates, maybe I missed something also are there any 3rd party apps that will get wireless tethering working?

I'm using barnacle wireless tether on aokp milestone6 without any problems.

+1 for Barnacle. That great app always worked wonders for me when built in tethering is a no go for whatever reason.
Easytether is also pretty damn good, just not free.

WiFi tethering works perfectly fine for me with hephappy's rc2. Have not tested USB/bluetooth.

Wi-Fi hotspot, Usb tethering and Bluetooth tethering are working perfectly on HepHappy's PreFinal.

If it is like the other roms you do not need another app. Just turn on the built in wifi tether. No need to touch apn's.

Did you download the latest version from here : http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
Works fine for me. Tested the newest, (3.1 beta 2), this morning. (ignore the Access Control error).
Also, Barnacle is working fine too : http://szym.net/barnacle/
Also tested this morning, although I got faster speeds with WiFi Tether.

I use the app that comes with CM and it works just fine.

Go to home > settings > wireless & networks > tethering & portable hotspot.
You have to flash gapps.zip to get the market and other Google goodies.

I'm using Barnacle WiFi Tether from the App Store. Works great once you get the settings correct. It bypasses the Carrier's HotSpot App by creating an Ad-hoc connection.
Where can i find gapps.zip?

I have successfully tethered my non-rooted stock Nook Tablet to my HTC Amaze 4G with both WPA and no security
I had to enable ad-hoc wifi first as per instructions here: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1370955) before I could connect to my Nokia N8 using joikuspot.
It seems that other people have managed to use another software to create a non-adhoc wifi network, but I think it's good to apply the patch and keep your options open.

They are different for each phone so you have better luck hoping over to the forum for yours and asking over there or checking to see if they have it already set up. Like I said I have a lowend samsung galaxy Prevail here from boostmobile.
I have a rooted NT and am new to tethering (great option since my wife has a Blackberry Bold (Verizon) that her company pays for). Seems like Barnacle and WIfi Tether are the two most used. Any recommendations as to which would be better for a noob?

Any luck with USB tether? People seem to like PdaNet. I have CleanROM 1.7.5 installed and I couldn't get the "Wired Tether" app to work, which previously worked fine on my rooted Motorola Droid OG.

Best WiFi tether for rooted GS3

Hello, for the first time in trying to use stock os on a phone, only thing i have changed is i have rooted the phone. So i don't have option to use built in WiFi hotspot, so my question is which app is a good replacement to get the same functionality as built in hotspot?

Wifi Tether from Play Store works just fine for me!
For wired tethering, I choose to use dropbear, forward a port through adb and create a tunnel over SSH. This way I can use my phone's data connection in one browser (as a proxy), and regular connection in another. Useful for browsing at work.
+1 for WiFi tether for Root. Make sure to select generic ics for the profile.
