About the lag with the homescreen - if you disable the S voice feature - there will be no more lags. Worked for me anyhow...

[TIPS - UPDATED 14/06/11!] Improve your battery life!

Turn off 3G, turn on only when needed
Settings -> Location -> Untick ''Wireless Networks and GPS Satelites''
Settings ->Accounts -> Untick Background data (Unless you want to use market)
Settings -> Wirelless -> Advanced -> Wifi sleep policy -> Never
Use phone on 2G, unless using internet (then switch to 3G mode)
Data traffic always OFF (Use only when needed)
Backlight low or Auto Brightness (And allow light to decrease)
Turn off wireless, basically everything turned off with the power control widget, turn on when necessary
Install task manager and set auto-kill mode to crazy on switch off screen mode (Put apps that always run in ignore list e.g. Launcher, Messaging. Basically the necessities)
Install SetCPU (After rooting your phone) - Min CPU 122mhz, Max CPU ~700mhz - 'On demand' profile
SetCpu - Profiles -> Screen Off -> Min 122mhz, Max 122mhz, Performance mode
Upgrade to Froyo 2.2 - Enable JIT (Saves battery on 2.2+)
Switch to a Cyanogenmod Rom
Enable undervolting (Only for CyanogenMOD roms)
Use RenderFX widget (CyanogenMOD, best to use low red, best to use when you are heading out)
Cyanogenmod - Spare Parts -> End Button Behaviour -> Go to sleep
LAST, but NOT LEAST, if you notice no significant increase in battery life, then your battery is no calibrated right! So go to market, download 'Battery Calibration', and charge your phone to 100%. Next, if its abbout 4000v - 4200v, your phone is correctly calibrated!
If its not 4000 -4200, press the ''calibrate'' button, and let your phone die out, then fully charge it (while its still powered off). Wait till light is green, TURN ON.
After boot, battery will not be 100% yet, reboot once more, charge to 100% (while phone is on), and check your new calibrated battery! It should now be 4000 to 4200v
I know there might be programs and applications to increase your battery life, but I dont have any experience with these, so feel free to post your experiences! Some examples may include juicedefender, etc
Anyone wants to add to this list, feel free =)

I don't know what goes wrong, but mine losts for only one day. If i have charged it overnight the battery is empty the next evening
No task managers. The phone manages its RAM well and the battery will last longer. For normal uses upto 1.5 days and for heavy users 1 day.

and here I heard installing juicedefender does more damage than good too.. what to believe? Everything is based on peoples hearsay and no evidence..
On my girl friends X10 mini I changed from ADW launcher to Helixlauncher and changed the brightness to auto. That made a HUGE difference.
Was on vacation and turned off 3G because I was not gonna use any expenisve data. That alone boosted my batterylife about 1 days worth.

people can do much to boost battery time, like turn off 3g, brightness control, turn off gps and so on, that all helps the battery
I have switched of almost everything and still get about 1 day of battery with about 2-3Hrs of music and a few calls and videos.
is it ok?
I get over 48 hours and I use the wifi a lot and do about 30mins of calls a day.
My tips:
* turn background data off and manually update ur emails when u want - this is the best tip I put it on my blog too
* manually enable network data when u need it
* use the top button to go on standby as soon as you are done using the phone
* keep gps, 3g and wifi off unless u want to use it
Sent from my U20i using XDA App
I have background data off.
No emailing whatsoever till now....
Almost 75% of the time in standby
Gps 3G wifi bluetooth are off.
Yet with stock launcer i get 24Hrs
Helix 30Hrs..
Why?
Its been two weeks(or 3) since i bought the phone...
Please reply.
BTW when did you buy the phone?
^^Ok.
I have come to know the problem.
Running any apps in background like Battery Indicator or task manager brings down the battery so much(the latter not much though)..
Because daily i used to get the above with battery indicator pro on.
But after uninstalling it i got about double that battery life..
So people better don't run them all the time.
task manager can be used sometimes about once every 2 hrs o so.
This increased my battery life so much on stock launcher
Just got the pro today. Will be ditching my X2 depending on the performance of this one after a week. So far, I love the mini pro for the fact that I can now hear my incoming messages and calls!
A couple of questions though:
1) Is there a way to wake up the screen when an SMS arrives?
2) Custom ringtone per contact?
3) Is there a way to disable screen lock when the phone goes to sleep by itself (not pressing the power button) ?
4) Is there a way to unlock the screen without the need to press the left button, I was hoping to go directly to the pattern unlock after i turn on the phone
Still getting used to the keyboard lay-out as I've been using X2 for almost 6 months.

I use Chomp SMS app and this allows the screen to wake-up, I think Handcent SMS does too. I never used the stock SMS app so not sure if there is a way to do it with that.

Not sure if this answers your question, I just press the Menu button twice to unlock the phone, never used the power button to wake it up funnily enough, only used the power button go in to sleep mode. When I press Menu button it wakes up to the pattern unlock.

Nice, i'll try to look for those apps. I did try the menu button and it worked. At least this relieves stress on the power button since I won't be using it to wake-up the phone anymore.
How's about not locking the phone when it goes to sleep? Unless I press the power button?
After a day with it, battery is now @ 30%+. Hope it improves or SE comes out with a high capacity.
Hi, where is the disable 3G button?
I can't seem to find it. I found wifi on and off.
and I unchecked location with gps.
thanks
Helix launcher is the best thing I installed to my mini pro. Batt life is now 3-4 days regular use and 5 days if i don't play games. Games are draining the batt quickly.
I'm totally getting rid of my X2.

I can prove it, there's a display in the phone where it says # of hours unplugged. If it's not working for you, doesn't mean it shouldn't for others as well. If you barely make 2 days, then that's what we should be LOLing about.
My setting is as follows:
- 2g only
- 1 to 2 hours of wifi and bluetooth per day
- 1 to 2 hours of games (love the games) per day
- tried GPS for 1 hour using mapdroyd
- a couple of calls and text messages per day
- tried watching a movie (AVI) for an hour using yxflash
- tried the media, played MP3s for an hour
- tried meebo for an hour
- I got my alarms ON always
- notifications ON always
- custom led lights for new SMS (using ringo pro) always
- max volume for the entire day
- medium volume at night
- data connection off
- background data off
- screen brightness to zero but the sensor is still working (weird), the screens still adjusts to the surrounding
This is after installing helix. Before helix, I got a max of 1 and a half days only.

[Q] Multitasking / screen off / facts & fiction

Does anyone know or could point me toward information about how to impact the multi tasking in Android.
The problem is:
- Somehow 'screen off' event is linked with the activation of 'deep sleep'. Now that's all nice and well but it's interrupting downloads and stopping appplications (try it with dolphin browser during a download, try turn off your screen with angry birds on, etc)
- Multitasking seems random: you can download market apps, move to angry birds, and play while it downloads, but you can't play angry birds, move to market app, and go back where you were in angry birds (it will restart the whole game).
Can anyone clarify the above? Thank you.
Turning the screen of will send the phone into deep sleep unless something is holding a wakelock, downloads should hold one till they finish, and if they are not, it's a bug.
As far as multitasking goes, yes it does seem random, and very much depends how the application was coded to deal with it, it seems that ICS will deal with this by adding a dedicated multitasking button.
Android will kill background inactive tasks as and when needed, but again it depends if the app was designed to hold its state in the background or dump out. And in low memory situations, which we shouldn't really get on the sgs2 it will start aggressively killing stuff in the background.

Do you have the setting "wifi off when display is off" ? That could disturb/stop download I guess..
Thank you. The reason of course is that I'm trying to use the phone as a 'mini computer' and on your pc you can off course turn off the screen while downloading files and doing some background processing.
The solution for me so far is to accept that the screen must be on when doing anything that takes time, so I have it set to never turn the screen off while charging, and have a widget that takes brightness down to 0% in a single click.
I suppose I just have to accept that the phone will eventually be outdated and the screen would die long after that - so 'using' the screen is not that big a deal.

I have actually been happy that with my device, I can actually start a download, using either stock or opera browser (haven't tried others) and not have to keep the screen on and have the download finish. Not only for screen timeout, but actually pressing the button to turn it off. With windows mobile 6.x, pressing the sleep button killed data, and only push mail or scheduled things (usually/hopefully) would "wakelock" the phone enough to receive something. It worked very poorly.
I honestly think you have a bug somewhere, because you should not have to leave the screen on for long periods of time just to let a download finish.

Support question: Amazon App store using 25% of battery

Sorry, not specific to my RAZR (stock) but is there a way to fix this. I generally check Amazon app store for the daily free app. Have updates turned off. Yet it eats up nearly as much battery a day as my screen. Is this a unique problem for me? I guess I could remove then reinstall...
Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk
I would contact Amazon tech support and report this. It sounds like a bug in their app; maybe too-frequent polling, or leaving a network connection open without proper error handling...
I'm quite sure they'll fix it really fast. It's important to them.
Thanks. I'll give them a call. I was curious if anyone else experienced the issue. I use circle battery widget to track use.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk
I keep forgetting to check the daily free app, but I don't even remember it showing up at all in Circle Battery widget.
Do you hit the home button or the back button to get out of the app? I use the back button, maybe using the home leaves it running.

It's not actually the Circle Battery Widget that displays the % used by apps, it's the Android battery meter. If you click on "Battery Usage" from within the widget menu it just pops up the Android OS battery usage dialog.
I had the same problem with the Android app. I'd even kill it with TaskKiller and it would just re-run itself. It was usually around 15-20% of usage on a normal day, so I just uninstalled it. It's not that big of a deal to me...I rarely used it.

I know thats where circle battery takes you, I was just stating for the sake of the OP that I check it the SAME EXACT WAY and it barely shows any if it even shows up. So the goal here should be to figure out why it uses so much for one person (the OP) and so little if any for another person (ME), not just the simple oh just delete it solution you posted.
I will try using the back button to see if it makes a difference.

For future reference, back button will typically close a program (when hit enough times till your back at a home screen) where home button leaves it running in the background.
This is happening to me also. The Amazon app is killing my Razr Maxx and that's saying alot. I've frozen the App with Titanium Back up for now waiting for a fix. What sucks is that while it's frozen I can't use any of the free apps I've installed. The battery drain is out of control. It's true it's only affecting some phones. There are scattered threads across multiple sites but they all just fizzle out with no idea how to fix it.

Well number 1 first thing to try is the standard, uninstall the app, reboot the phone (full power down and power up) then reinstall the app, don't just freeze it.
second, and more for my curiosity then anything, when you "exit" the app do you hit the back button till your back to the homescreen or do you hit the home button? This question is for all of you that are having the big drain, as the best way to track down a problem is to see what is different between the users without the problem and the users with the problem, and what is common amongst the users with the problem.

I tried your advice today, gonna keep track of the battery drain the next few days and let you know if it worked. As of right now I'm at 3 h 27m @ 87% so it's looking good.
And to answer your question, I use the back button to exit out of the app...then I would go to battery stats, click on Amazon and force close it.....that obviously didn't fix it.
Thanks for the advice!

Problems after jellybean update

I am noticing some problems with my s3 after the official jellybean update. It feels like it has been rushed to the phone. For example it doesn't have the quick reply feature in the notification window. It does for missed calls but not for messages. This is one the most anticipated features for me. Also when watching you tube and you don't want the screen to rotate it now does. I want to lock the rotation so I only get the small video at the top when my phone is on its side. It worked before jellybean update. Also auto brightness has changed. When auto brightness is selected you can manually turn it up with the slider in the notification window and it disables auto brightness and changes to what you set on the slider. Now on jellybean you have to uncheck the auto brightness box and then slide. Little features like this are starting to make me feel like it has been a massive rush to get jellybean on to the s3 which is ironic seen as though it took long enough. I have the international i9300 model s3. Is anybody else noticing the problems I have stated? Does anybody know a way of changing/getting the features? Thanks.
They were definitely to busy with the Note II, I mean come on at least give their flag ship the same/some of the features that a bigger version of the S3 has... That sexy multitasking should have been on the initial jelly bean update.

I know what you mean. The note got great features like the multi window. Apparently that's coming before the new year but I highly doubt that. Are you noticing the same problems I am? Another problem I found is when screen goes off after inactivity you used to be able to press the home button a moment after it goes off and it would turn the screen back on leaving you at the page you was. Now the home button takes you back to the home when you press it. It's annoying you have to go back to the app.

Me too, my problem is the battery with jb lj4
I think there is a few little niggles but overal its pretty much the same.
The autobrightness don't disable automatically now when you adjust the slider as you can now actually adjust the autobrightness brightness, Not sure why though.
Google Now - leaving it active at the mo, but not really found any usefullness from it as yet. The Time home feature is ok, would be good if it actually showed the route I take home - Via motorway, rather than the route through city center which i don't take!!
The new notifcation bar - its ok, nothing major. Expect a bit of all these features will improve over time as well once apps get proper updates. Some work but don't have full functionally - Songpop has no notifications now for example.
Battery Life - I did find that my normal phone use on ISC which included about 50/60 mins worth of calls etc wi-fi left on all the time but only actually connected to wi-fi at home (just 2G & 3G at work) i would have about 55/60% battery life left by the time i got home from work, on Jelly Bean - with the same useage i had about 40/45% left. I am now back to the same as before on ISC, but i didn't disable google now or anything just turned Wi-Fi off when left home and turn it back on when home - results was 55/60% battery remaining a as on ISC. Seems that the Wi-Fi drains when not connected - either it keeps on searching which it might not of done on ISC or its the Google Now doing something (Does say improve location by keeping wifi on - does this even if not connected!!) - Least this way i can still use google now and see how it improves its tags overtime.
I am now using a App called WiFi Timer to automatically switch Wifi on and off when i leave/get home.
Love that it now has voice downloaded so you can text etc with no data connection - find its more accurate now as well!
Never had the small vids on Youtube when rotated phone so not sure about that. Take it disabling autorotate doesn't do this?
Good and Bad
My experience is as follows:
Good:
Sheer speed, no perceivable lag.
A problem I had with only half the SMS notification tone being played (before it cut off) has gone away.
Bad:
Battery drain terrible even when idle. Turning off Google Now, Location Services and Samsung Push Notification fixed this.
When I activate Smart Stay, the screen does not want to turn off 80% of the time - even when I'm not looking at it.
When I wake the phone using the home key, it exits the app I was in. Previously, this would wake the device and return you to the current app (after unlocking). I have a partial work around using the PreHome app; this way the app is still visible underneath the PreHome dialogue box and I just need to press Back to get to my app again.
Widgets, seem to refresh less regularly, particularly Messaging and Gmail widgets which seem to hardly even refresh when I want them too.
Of No Consequence:
The red charging led is a little dimmer when charging.
Overall:
The speed benefits outweigh the niggles - just!

i may just root my phone as i really am not happy with this jellybean update, nothing has really improved for me, if i root it and install a rom like codename all the features like quick reply would be there right?

On my Note it appears to be a TouchWiz problem. I do not have the lock screen enabled as my phone never leaves my side. From sleep it takes approx. 1 second to wake if i press the power button when using TouchWiz. It wakes in less than half a second when i use SSLauncher or Nova!
Not using touchwiz. Nova launcher instead. Still get crazy lag. Seems its across all Note 2. Hoping for a fix.
I was browsing the n7100 forums and someone there asked the same question. A lot of people said that the lag was because of the phone coming out of deep sleep so the only way to fix the lag would be to keep some app running in the background that keeps the phone from sleeping. The only problem with that is that your battery life won't be as good.
why not just download voltage control or similar app and raise the minimum clock speed?
I have no lag at all. My note 2 is faster then my g3

It's not lag so much as it is a delay. On my Razr, there's no delay between pushing the power button and the screen coming on. There is a delay on the Note 2 of around a second between pushing the button and the screen coming on.
I don't think it's the lockscreen. I don't see a difference when I turn it off. My guess is the little bit of lag is for hardware reasons.
I've read that this is due to S-Voice waiting for input before the screen completely wakes up. Go into S-Voice and find the setting to wait for input on wake or something similar and turn that off. Lag should be fixed...dont have the phone yet and already giving advice, lol.

This video is for home button lag not lockscreen lag. Plu my s voice was all ready disable by home button. This thread is for lockscreen lag/delay not home button.
The Fix for me
Here is what i found turn off s-voice this what i found to fix the lag i think it is running waiting for the wake voice command
do turn it off if you dont use it did and it did the trick it is in the apps drawer so dont look for it in the settings
I thought this was generally accepted to be due to the phone entering a deep sleep and shutting off the CPU cores, thus the delay in waking up the processor and thus the display.
Will do further testing around forced wake locks and hold cpu states.
i disabled the lock screen...so much better! this phone does not pocket dial, so its not needed anyway imo.
