Evo design 4g? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Is the Evo design 4g and the Evo 4g lte the same phone?
My friend has a sprint htc Evo design 4g and I cannot find the xda development thread for that phone.
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda app-developers app

No.
The 4g LTE is a high end top of the line phone.
The design is probably considered mid tier with its 5mp camera and other specs
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2

To follow up on the above post, a clarification. The Evo Design 4G is WiMax, the same 4G that the orignal (OG) Evo had. The WiMax network is still active and will continue to do so for a while longer yet (probably somewhere between 2 and 4 years, but that's 100% pure speculation), but there is basically no good reason to go with the Evo Design over the Evo LTE.
Well ok, I guess it depends on how good of a deal you can get. The Evo LTE is around $200 while you can probably find the Design for less than that. I assume this question is for buying purposes. Your friend is like the nazi guy from Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade upon finding what he thinks is the holy grail. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ubw5N8iVDHI

My wife has the design, she upgraded to that from the Samsung intercept about a year ago. It's a decent phone, it's just one that no one really cared about. There is a rooting forum on Phandroid for it, but I don't think it has any mods or roms though.

My mom has the Design, and they just got ICS. along with my girls 3D.

Motorola photon

First off this isn't a post dogging on the evo. I want to make it clear that I love my evo to death. Now I am just curious to know if anyone will be going out and getting the photon? The specs aren't too bad and it looks like it could be a pretty solid phone. My wife is actually do for an upgrade so I might get her it and steal it for a bit.
Anyone else thinking of purchasing or maybe even trading in your evo for the photon?

I am returning my evo 3D for Photon 4G, spec is about the same but it has dual networks CDMA and GSM, this is all in one phone, it is kind of convenience when we travel to GSM country, just pop prepaid GSM card and ready to go. I also hope that Motorola phone has a better signal. Forget to mention, kickstand is a plus.
Yes, Sprint gave me my EVO 3D and I will purchase the photon when it comes out. I miss my kickstand and the 3D function really does hurt my eyes. I know I don't have to use it. but the dual camera kind of annoys me since its so big.
Yeah I have to agree an android world phone that's that ish... the evo 3d is a nice gimmick but that's it I just hope we can get asop roms running this like asap

Did Evo 3D hit a new low?

Seems that now you can get it for free.

Same thing happened to the Evo 4g when all the new products started rolling out. With the addition of new LTE devices it was only a matter of time before the 3d became a free phone for 2 years of service. I still love the 3d though, came from the 4g as an insurance replacement and it's still going strong. All I need is a fully functional ICS rom and I will be ok until July when I am up for an upgrade.
I got mine free about two months ago. Bestbuy was giving people who upgrade $50 towards their new phone. The phone was on sale for $50, making it free. I called sprint while driving there and said i was upgrading to the s2, but i said i could barely afford it and was asking for some help. They gave me an extra $25 credit and waived the activation fee

I am sticking to my EVO 3D. It's a solid piece of hardware, no need to change it. Don't see the point. Will consider moving on when One X drops to a reasonable price.
Still don't know is this a good or bad thing...
Just hope it will make it a bit more popular.

The summer is coming up & Sprint needs to get rid of WiMax devices. Good news IMHO.

They gotta clear out wimax phones. I think I saw all wimax phones on sale for a penny on amazon with a 2 year agreement. I wouldn't want to be stuck with a wimax device for 2 years now with lte just around the corner. Thanks but no thanks

You do know that WIMAX towers aren't just gonna be shut down and done away with. Anyone who were to buy a WIMAX phone tomorrow, would still have WIMAX 2 years from now.

True but wimax isn't expanding and will eventually be shut down. Wait a few months and get an lte device is what's best for me especially since lte will be in my area eventually hopefully by the end of year. Wimax isn't in my area and never will be.

Well the Evo 3D dropped in price in most countries. Even though its an better smartphone then HTC Sensation, its cheaper now to then the HTC Sensation. The Evo 3D which was first more expensive is now kinda cheap for an smart phone off its specifications.
I see many off you just get the phone with an contract, just like many in The Netherlands do.
Well, I hate to say it but the 3d was indeed a flop (in the business sense) , especially in contrast to the 4g which was an astounding success. The 3d should have been marketed as being sleek and fast but was instead marketed only as being 3d capable which to most consumers.....just didn't fly. After all, whether you like 3d capabilities or not, it's still just a gimmick that didn't take off.

I bet if the HTC Evo 3D was cheaper then the HTC Sensation then many would have just chosen for the HTC Evo 3D.
Now many needed choose between HTC Sensation which was cheaper and HTC Evo 3D and then they needed choose between 1080p 2D video with HTC Sensation or 720P both in 2D and 3D with HTC Evo 3D.
I guess price the Evo 3D got now it should start selling better.
I'm VERY glad that it failed to advertise as 3D feature and not it's Specs, thanks to that i've got my EVO just for 250euros, gsm unlocked. One of the best phones atm on the market, unless buying ONE X instead , no other phone is worth changing for Evo.
When i check differences in EVO and Sensation for example, my face goes like :
EVO 3D , 250euros, dual core 1.2 ,
Sensation XE Beats, 500 euros, dual core 1.5
Sensation XL beats, 530euros, single core 1.5,
Looks like its all about advertise and looks even in current century, 90% of customers never look at Specs or even understand what anything means.
God bless American education and fastfood.
All of Sprint's phones are free on Amazon except the iphone4
I imagine Sprint wants to EOL as many Wimax phones as possible. While they will still support Wimax for a while after their initial LTE rollout, they don't want to be adding to the people who use Wimax; they want to save those people for LTE. Sprint is in a bad place right now, and they need as much money as they can get. Moving out older devices and focusing on newer, more powerful, LTE devices is the way for them to gain what they need.
All contract phones I have ever owned have been free, I guess it's different in the US?

In the Netherlands you can also still get ''free'' phones, only in past you could get an high end device like HTC Desire HD with a contract where you pay in 2 years about € 600.
But that you can forget now, it will atleast cost you 900 euro and you get an contract where you first get an period discount and after that you need pay much more.
So I believe buying your phone without contract can be cheaper.

My feelings exactly. I bought my OG EVO 4G from some guy and got an EVO 3D on an insurance claim (I accidentally wiped the WiMax keys, and I wanted an EVO 3D anyway). I've still got my original upgrade credit from when I signed up. I'll wait until HTC releases LTE phones before I use my credit. I love my EVO 3D, but WiMax is not in my area. LTE will probably be coming to my area eventually, so why not upgrade to an LTE phone as soon as I have a chance?

how many of us EVO 3d owners were gonna switch to the phones in the title, im gsm and lte wont be hitting the uk (like the evo 3d wasnt)

honestly the best way to use an upgrade is on a iPhone (if you like them), because sprint devices drop value after 2-3 months you could pick one up used for contract price from craigslist

That's not a bad idea. Get the iPhone for contract price. Sell it for way more. Buy a used Evo LTE. Then keep the profit.

Method1911 3D
HTC has announced that the One X won't be unlockable on AT&T. If they don't allow unlocking on Sprint, how will that affect your decision? I'm sure a dev or three will eventually find a hole and give us a root method, but I'm sure it won't be easy and may be a good bit of a wait.
Yes that's a good point. If it cannot be unlocked, I'll keep my 3d.

Still getting the EVO LTE the EVO 3d is good and has life but its missing something what idk
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
the evo 3d is still good, not the best phone possible obviously but more than "good enough" with this update, I dont think that I will upgrade at least for six months more, probably next year.
my money now will go toward a new tablet instead of a new phone.
ICS is nice but the New Camera, Kickstand, S4 Krait, 16GB, HD Voice, LTE, NFC and Sense 4.0 with the new EVO is really tempting.
If anything, ICS/Sense 3.6 made my 3D go up in value.
I'm going to need a Sprint leak or final before I actually sell though. Can't roam with the current VM leak.

I think Agrabren mentioned something about finding an exploit in the S4 chip and stated that REVOLUTIONARY will only support qualcom chips. We should be in good shape with or without HTC's unlock, though I doubt Sprint will restrict unlocking.
Think I'm going to wait for the s3 i love sense but I'm tired of HTC the so called flagship phones come out with a bang then in 3 months or less they are forgotten look at the 3d and rezound

The OneX is unlockable even on AT&T. HTC announced they understood that customers were very upset that they could not unlock their devices and decided to make all new phones since the 3d, unlockable. As far as sense3.6, I'm not that excited about it. Sense 4.0 is still way much better. I'm going to get the OneX when it comes to sprint in June. But the name is going to be changed, adding it to the evo family. I hear its suppose to be the best evo yet, even topping the Evo4g LTE. I'm excited.

Lasted One Day...

I really wanted to like the phone, but I ran into two issues.
a) my audio over bluetooth was terrible. Compared to the Photon that I was coming from, the calls were very choppy.
b) Reception... I spontaneously went to roaming mode in my office, where I have NEVER had reception issues. the same thing repeated itself on the freeway where Sprint has always had good coverage.
I'm sure it was probably just my handset, but with the SGS3 coming soon and my Photon still kicking like a champ, I took it back today, after just one day of use.
good luck everyone.
This reminds me that I've experienced the roaming issue. I have airave hooked up, so I thought it might have something to do with that; even though my NS4G and GS2 were fine in the same config.

Going from a photon to a New EVO you would see a difference in coverage. The photon is awesome in the RF aspect.
I was able to compare my EVO LTE to an Epic yesterday in a fringe area. It seemed to be about the same.

I have acce ss to, at any given time, the OG Evo 4g, the Evo 3d, the Evo Shift, the ET4g, and now, the Evo 4g LTE. If I am having problems getting a signal somewhere, and absolutely NEED a signal, for some reason it's the Evo3d that never fails. I don't know what it is in the internals that causes it, but it's definitely true.
i think it would be pretty hard to make a decision to return a phone after one day.. but hey if you dont like it you dont like it..
You're generally right... However, going into roaming, in areas that I've used most phones in without incident, shows a clear issue that I won't risk dealing with.
I've already resigned to dealing with poor data speeds due to Sprint's network... Good calling should be a must for all phones.
Should I have expected the calling issues to go away by themselves?

[Q] Upgrading to a new free phone; Suggestions

So my upgrade on my EVO 3D comes up tomorrow, I was going to get one of the free phones on my upgrade. I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for which one I should get. Heres what I've been leaning towards.
Samsung Galaxy S III:
+Good phone, I know people that have them and they aren't bad
-No LTE, I use my phone network for a lot of things.
HTC Evo 4G LTE:
+Going from an EVO to an EVO is good right?
-Worried about the battery life, I got hurt by my 3D and don't want to see it go that way again.
Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE:
+Full Keyboard; Also had an Atrix before my 3D, so I'm used to motorolas bass ackwards rooting and hacking and whatnot
-From what I can tell the screen is really crappy. Does anyone know if this is true?
Is there something that I'm missing out on as far as free sprint phones goes? What do you guys suggest?
Ive came away from htc and went for a samsung s3 and I can honestly say im really happy with it plus rooting is easy all the roms are good and battery life in some are awesome. The only thing I miss from htc phones is the clock with the weather changing on the phone

I wouldn't recommend Motorola Photon Q.
So try deciding between Galaxy S3 or Evo 4G LTE.
In your place i would choose S3 as many people have it thus greater support on XDA but if connectivity on LTE means much more than that then go with HTC Evo 4G LTE.
Or simply, flip a coin. Not because the coin will choose for you, but because, in that split second, you'll know what side you want it to fall on.

lol, I've been leaning more towards the S3 already. Does anyone know what kind of speed difference I would possibly see in the San Diego area? Also, would it be worth it for me to wait till I have some extra cash? Is the S4 a big improvement? Or is there something else worth it?
If I had the opportunity I would jump to s3. The phone is better than the other two all round and the support is better too.
