Phone Suggestion on par with Amaze - HTC Amaze 4G

So... after using the Amaze for some months... I basically drop it, broke the edge of the screen (usable, just a bit annoying seeing a line at the right edge on the search button), and accompanied with some small problems. Although as you guys can see on the picture, the crack is not that bad; but kind of unpleasant. Since I love trying new phone, I am thinking of trying another phone if there is an option while getting rid of the annoyance.
Long story short, I am thinking of selling the phone and get another phone to play with... But, here's the catch... I don't want to spend too much just for playing with new phone (so no s3 or one x/s for me) and it needs to work on t mobile 4g.... I can't really think of any phone other than Amaze that fall that have a beast spec like 1.5ghz dual core, 1gb ram, and fantastic camera and still within the 200-300 range (even s2 in my area's craigslist is still about 300+)... I'm just trying to see if there is anything on par with amaze in terms of spec vs price.... If I got no other option, I might sell my amaze and get another amaze... But, who knows someone here have an idea...
Lastly,... What price do you guys suggest to sell this phone on craigslist with a not perfect screen (assuming I can throw an extra battery and back cover)? Most listing in my area range from 250-320....

Well my amaze is pristine like I just pulled it out of the box and people don't even want to pay $270....
So om thinking since yours has a crack it will go for a lot less
Sent from my epic amaze 4g

The next best thing to the Amaze (besides the one s) would be the Sensation. Specs are not as good (but close) as the Amaze but it should be with in your budget on Craig's list. And there is a lot of support for the Sensation.

I also think that way... I am thinking of selling it around 200-220 range because it's still usable and if you replace the screen, it will cost about $50 for the screen.... Plus, the price around my area still goes for 270-320. Do you think that's reasonable?

This...! I want to but there is no used gsm galaxy nexus in my area and the new one cost 350+tax which is about 150 bucks more for a slower processor and worse camera (with faster update though)...

My screen is WAY worse than that, shattered from the bottom right corner to about half way up the screen, still works fine tho. I have some pics in my "i'm back!" Thread. Ne ways, I had it on craigslist, I wasn't going to sell it but I just wanted to see what I could get if i decided to, and someone was gonna buy it for $100, so u should have no problem getting two hundred for yours.

Ya... I actually just re-check on ebay and the screen digitizer cost only 26 bucks... So, if that person is diligent enough to change it, that will be a damn good deal (for you $100 case)... So I suppose 200ish will be fair enough. lol.. I guess I will try to sell it first and get a new phone afterward (and use my old faithful g2 while searching )...
Anyway,... I suppose there isn't much of a choice because of t-mobile 1700 2100 freq...

I work at an electronics repair shop and I will say, some android phones are a total ***** to replace the digitizer on. You will see most phones get a digitizer/LCD combo because it is so much harder to do just the digitizer.. but if you think you can do it, that small a price for a digitizer will increase the value much more than trying to tell THEM to do it.
If you like your amaze and you're willing to keep it.. most repair shops should be willing to do it for between 30-50 if you provide the part - don't break it again and you can sell it for more money later anyways when a phone WORTH upgrading to had finally come out. Otherwise you wanting good hardware specs and good picture quality makes me say you should just fix it. But that's just my 2¢.

I want a 3D but I'm scared!

I'm really wanting an evo 3d. I have been using HTC for a long time now and would like to keep using them. Only problem is that I am still in contract and since I am not a gold member I can't get my yearly upgrade. I see a bunch of new evos on eBay going for fair prices but I am all kinds of worried that I will get an evo with a problem (tilted screen, light bleed, 3d funky button). I am not sure what I want to do, I may just roll the dice and give it a try.

What is your current phone?
I bought a couple of Nexus S phones on EBay last month for my wife and younger brother and I am very impressed with that phone. It has some really cool features and is blazing fast when rooted.
It would be a little cheaper than getting the 3D and in my opinion thus far is just as potent. If you already have an Evo 4g than the Nexus would be a small upgrade in my opinion unless you have to have Sense. I just like the shape, size and feel of the Nexus. Less bulky and all.
It's an awesome phone....if you don't have OCD
There are quality control issues, don't let anyone tell you different. Some just don't see it or choose to ignore it. I can't say sh!t cause I seriously went through 7 of them til I found the "perfect" one.
This is just me personally, I would be weary of purchasing online cause for the simple fact, you have no idea what you will get. Atleast at a store, you can return within 30 days. You can physically overlook your purchase. If you feel they have a bad batch, you can move on to another store. If you aren't really picky, then I would say absolutely make the purchase.
Good luck with whatever you decide
When is you contract over? Do you have the 75$ upgrade available right now? ?f yes call this number (877)775-4886 and try to get your upgrade back if anything you will have to pay 75$ to get the "buy up program " and you will be able to get a full upgrade and get the 3d for 200$ and you will have your 30 days and if you don't like it return and get another phone
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d

So my cousin dropped my Prime...

As the title says. My cousin dropped my beloved Prime on the kitchen titles because she hadn't docked it properly. The tablet dropped out of the dock, but the keyboard is fine.
It has two massive dents in the top corners, because that's how it landed: on one corner (the top-right corner) and then 'bounced' onto the top-left.
How do I get this repaired? I really hate my expensive electrical products from being damaged, so I need it repaired ASAP - I ideally need it for college next week, but I know it won't be back by then.
Do I simply phone up ASUS UK and ask them how much it would cost to repair it, then send it away and give them however much they want? Or is there a different procedure?
Thanks guys,
Phil
Best of luck with that, but as all of the main electronics are assembled on the case back, you are talking about an almost total disassembly and reassembly plus a new back. That will be hideously expensive. Based on what camera companies charge for similar work, I would expect between £100 and £200.

That's why I've started this thread - I want to see if I can get it any cheaper.
ouch... Hopefully you have insurance on it? If so, then it won't be so bad hopefully, but if not it will be really expensive, likely more than it is worth. Does the tablet still work? If so, you might want to think of selling it for 200 or 300 if your lucky, and just buying a new tablet. I guess it just depends on the cost, but whatever it may be it won't be pretty. Sorry, best of luck to ya.

When it's customer induced damage, you have to pay for the shipping cost, the parts, and the hourly wage for the guys who preform the repair. This would probably require a complete dissassembly, and I bet 2-300€ wouldn't be overdoing it. Sadly...
Your probably better off selling it off at a loss and buying a new one if the dents bother you.
*EDIT: This^^^^
Wow, you guys are estimating pretty low there.
Considering they want $400 just to replace the screen on a $499 tablet, surely actually disassembling it and replacing the backplate would come out being more expensive than just buying a new tablet.
Really you're just SOL. I don't think it will be any time soon that your average repair shop (if at all) will be able to get the parts and do it at a reasonable price.
Either sell it at a discount to someone who doesn't care as much as you do or just toss it aside as entertainment for people/kids; use the same amount of money you would fixing it just getting a new one.

White back Amaze with black D30. What should my asking price be?

Hello all. Got my Amaze on launch day. Been a great phone but tired of the limitations all the devs face. No AOKP. No CM. Just so many things standing in their way too. I want to move on to another device that has greater support in the dev community. I would include two cases. One is a D30 and the other a clear with white argyle (has yellowed some) and of course the charger. The condition is 10\10 zero wrong with it. White is whitey white. Screen has no scratches/blemishes. NEVER been dropped (knock on wood)What should my asking price be??? Also is anyone interested? Trades would be considered but no promises.
Also I am currently running ICS roms with 4EXT recovery and S-off.
toss a picture up man
I'm away from all other devices with a Camera at the moment
Standing By
If only had I seen this early, just bought a used one, a few scratches on the cover, but I got a new cover to replace it with, just too lazy to s-off it since I already s-offed my old one, lol.
I'd check on Craigslist to get a feel for the current asking price.
It's different prices for different markets. Selling online "can" be a hassle.
I honestly prefer cash in hand unless it's friends.
The cases are a + which means you could ask for a bit more, but someone could just opt to not buy the cases...in which case you'd have to options.
Lower the price and exclude the cases or decline the offer altogether.
I suggest figuring out the lowest you'd take for the phone first. Then figure out what you'd ACTUALLY like to get for it, then ask a bit above it because of the cases.
That way when you lower the price to exclude the cases it's right where you want it to be at.
You get what you want, and they feel like they got a good deal.
Just some suggestions. Hope it helps. Good luck.

Seriously, my fiance's Sensation is so much frikkin better with all the dev support. She benches higher, battery is smaller and lasts longer than mine. The Amaze just hit at a weird time. It has great hardware but not available in many markets and has some goofy drivers that screw the kernal development up.

it has the best specs from one year ago, and has 3d video and playback, unlike nearly all phones. Great phone
It's like last year's car model when the new ones come out.
allright, thanks for all the answers, im getting it ^^

If you are constantly watching 3D movies and stuff like me, it's worth it. It's the best android (for my uses) imo. The 3D is way better than going to the movies and its not massive like all the other phones now days. Fits nicely in the pocket. And when you get it, get the Acase Supperlaggera case for it, its only 6 bucks and the best case ihave come across. You won't be disappointed with the phone or that case, take my word

Evo 3D and the Sensation are last years tech but still great for the price.
I imagine the sensation XE has WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more development potential due to the lack of 3D making it easier to dev for, but higher CPU, 1.5GHz dual core, and less RAM (and different GPU if i recall)

I've just problems with it since day one. Mostly lockups. When I put into my pocket and take it out the screen won't turn on , so I have to remove battery. I get random reboots throughout the day. 50 percent of the time plugging the charger in causes the phone to lock up.
This happens all throughout the day no matter what ROM/firmware/kernel .
Just be wary to anyone who buys as I know I'm not the only one.

Great phone! I've had it since launch day, bezel on both the front and the back (for the camera) have fallen off. The front bezel was actually hanging off, and it was pretty brutally bent from my abuse (thus why I got rid of it) and the 3d switch as well as the camera button are now gone. My only complaint is that wimax sucks, but thats something we deal with here in the US.

I was reluctant to go s-off but finally did using wire trick. So far - no problems.
I didn't agree with other methods everyone was using. Changing CID, downgrading bootloader. I had a theory that doing all that would make your phone "UNStable".
Still wonder about all the people that left this phone and alll the ones having stability problems if its something they did in going s-off.

Cracked Screen

Looks like I'm the first to post about this in the HOX+ section
Had the phone face down after having recently rejected a call, my dad and I heard a tiny sound but didn't think much of it. Later when I picked it up I was in utter shock to find the screen had cracked. The phone is only 1 month or so old and HAS NEVER EVER been dropped.
I gave AT&T a call knowing I'd get no where...and yes, I got no where. So I called HTC and they were super nice. However, they pretty much told me that while screen defects are possible, it's next to never that it's ruled as such by the technician. I sent it in anyway to see what happens.
I really don't have any other options at the moment to getting it repaired as I could not find a single place that sells HOX+ parts. Some have reported HOX parts being cross compatible, but I'm not going to take the phone apart (and risk damaging it) on a "maybe".
In sum, I'm heartbroken and pissed.
And to rub salt into the wound, I'm having to use my wife's old iPhone 3GS in the meantime :crying:
always sad to hear about the death of a beloved phone :crying: Good luck and please keep us informed.
I'm more sorry to hear that u have to use a sorry a** iPhone for the time being

I'd cry if I had to use an iPhone. Sorry to hear about your phone. I think the one x and + both share the same dimensions so maybe a one x screen will work but the leds will be white not 100% about compatibility so maybe check with HTC
These phones are actually really easy to tear apart! Don't be scared
Best of luck getting your baby working

I would hope that a technician could tell the difference between a defect and impact damage. If it were dropped, there would be some kind of impact mark somwhere, especially considering how hard Gorilla Glass 2 is supposed to be to break. Fingers crossed for you.
Don't feel bad. I just sent mine back to HTC as well. All layers of the screen destroyed but surprisingly the phone still worked so I'm looking at a new digitizer and lcd. I miss her

Thanks guys. Still ticked to no end, and the iPhone 3GS certainly doesn't help. Should have never sold all my ex-Android phones (urgh).
Still no word from HTC. I'm basically torn between forking over $200+ for the repairs if they're not going to repair it under warranty and just selling it as is on eBay. I figure I can get $300, then use the money toward a Nexus 4. It's going to kill me not having LTE, 64GB storage, sharp screen, nor the sexiness that is the HOX+, but I can't spend $200 after just recently spending $250 to buy it. I don't know. Confused

It's going to kill me not having LTE, 64GB storage, sharp screen, nor the sexiness that is the HOX+, but I can't spend $200 after just recently spending $250 to buy it. I don't know. Confused

They quoted me at 120 shipped to replace the lcd and digitizer. Your repairs should be much cheaper if all they are replacing is the digitizer.

Thanks guys. Still ticked to no end, and the iPhone 3GS certainly doesn't help. Should have never sold all my ex-Android phones (urgh).(

Yeah, that's like taking your Mercedes in for service and having them give you a Yugo as a loaner.
Well that's definitely encouraging. I can certainly handle that I read elsewhere it was >$200, but I'll take $120 to get my baby back.

Tell me about it. Aside from the fact I want to bash it against the wall because I can't do half the things I'm used to (I miss Swype SORELY, among everything else), subconsciously I find myself concealing it cause I feel embarrassed for using it.

HTC/Futuretel in Canada quoted me $430 for screen + digitizer. I smashed it a few weeks ago, you can find my thread in the q&a section.
I found a company in Vancouver that will do it for $135 so we'll see how that repair goes.
Good luck to you too.
Sorry to hear about yours as well, hope you get it back all sorted. $400 is a lot just for a screen repair,

My status changed to "In Repair" today. Not sure if that means they're going ahead and repairing it under warranty or that they're looking at and will contact me soon with estimate. Wait and see I guess. Keeping my fingers crossed.
It does not mean that. Mine said the same thing the first day and it was explained to me that it means they are taking it apart to diagnosis the extent of condition. My final cost was 200. They claimed they needed to replace the casing as well... I didn't argue it and paid up. You can dispute the charges though.

You're absolutely right. An hour later they sent me a quote with the same thing, $200 for the screen and casing. I called them up and asked as to why the casing needed replacing when only the screen was cracked. They escalated it and someone is going to contact me back. I don't have a problem paying to replace the screen (which I hoped to be around $120), but why should I pay an extra $80 for a casing that was in pristine condition.

I totally agree with you. My case was pristine as well. Hard to tell from the pics though but there was no damage done to it. I'm guessing the destroyed it taking the screen out.

Just got off the phone with HTC again. They said the 200 does not include the case. That is being thrown in because they probably damaged it when removing the internals. 200 only includes replacing the screen.

After reading your post I just said fuuuuuuuunk it and just went online and approved the repairs and paid for them. I have zero hope that any good is gonna come out of this and I don't want to wait another week (was told up to 10 days) for them to review my case only to come back and tell me they won't cover them. Thought about putting the $200 toward a Nexus 4 (or whatever I got from the selling the HOX+ as is), but I really love my HOX+, even if I miss the Nexus experience.

Am sorry to hear about your screen. Don't wanna go off topic but stick to the HOX+. I have the nexus 4 as well and it's a good phone and all but the camera and audio experience is awful. If you use your phone with a headset from time to time or take pics the Nexus 4 is ridiculous, I mean really bad.
Thanks for reassuring me I made the right decision then. Good to know about the camera and audio quality.

Got my phone back yesterday from HTC and was surprised to find out that they actually sent me a brand new one instead of repairing my original one. This actually makes me feel a whole lot better about dropping $200.
I'll give :good: for HTC for their quick turnaround and the nice packaging the phone came in.
All in all, I'm just glad to have my [new] HOX+ back.
