No way to disable the capacitive keys on demand..though you can permanently disable them by activating the on screen navigation buttons

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a app to change the button that powers up the phone out of sleep.
Normally you press the power button and then unlock drag with your finger.
I would love to see it changed to the optical button press, as it's the only feature of the iphone i like
maybe you can use Screen Mode Widget ,change it's state to 'Awake Stay',then the device will not screen lock but will dim(press any button will awake the screen).Try it

me too
Slide function doesnt seem to work.
I usually press the optical button or home button the im able to slide the screen to unlock, do not think this is implemented coz then the display will turn on and off if you fx has it a pocket.
If you press any button does the screen come to life? I mean are you able to unlock device? if so then it works

I've also used LockBot Free cuz I don't really like the HTC lock screen. How ever I stop using it because it wakes my phone with any button I press and I tense to hit the volume rocker all the time. but it is a good alternative.
Anybody tried this method from desire topic? (root needed)

Hi,
Is it possible to wake up my phone by pressing (or should I say touching) home button instead of power button?
BTW, I've found a app for turning the screen down called "Screen Off and Lock" in the market.
update: I found the TapTap App from the market is very good to wake up your streak without pressing the power button. It uses proximity sensor to wake up your phone and you can change the sensitivity. I have been using it for a couple of days, it doesn't degrade the battery life. At least I didn't feel that.
I use that app (screen off and lock) with transparent launcher 100% transparent to hide the icon. and NO LOCK app to use the power button to wake it up. But have not found a menu unlock that will work.
u can use widgetlocker it has this option
Or use the menu unlock off the market. Not home button.....but the menu button....

on most devices you change key 102 HOME in /system/usr/keylayout/sruf_keypad.kl to key 102 HOME WAKE_DROPPED but im not sure that will work anyways because these are capacitive buttons, not physical ones so its like trying to use the touch screen while its off.

I didn't try this one. If it does work, that's great.
Does this app consume more power than usual?

Oh, I found this one. It's just for unlocking the phone after you wake up it, but not for waking it up. Right?

Doesn't work for me, or perhaps I'm just dumb
I've used the app Button Remapper to remap all of the hardware buttons, including the camera button as two (focus, camera).
These can be used to power on the device with wake_dropped.
However, the Home, Menu etc buttons are not identified and remappeable in the normal way. Has anyone found if they're remapped from/to other buttons, perhaps the function keys etc?
I've found that remapping the keys:
volume up = home
volume down = menu
focus = back
camera = search,
it's substantially better to use in landscape mode. However, I'd like to disable the capacitive buttons, but haven't found a way yet.

Ok, so I've read about how you don't get the ICS quick change/recently used apps button on the new SIii.
Questions 1 is there a way to remap the Menu button so that is does the quick change feature?
2 is there a way to then, the double tap home button feature to get GOOGLE Voice Search/Actions?
3 is there a way that I can add on screen ICS buttons like on the Galaxy Nexus? And then make the hardware home button do something else?
Do I need apps? Rooting?
Thanks!
You need to root. You can turn on software keys with the AOKP rom but you cannot disable the hard keys.

i would rather have the task manager open when you hold and press on the back button. the menu button when u hold give u the google search, but on the back button when u hold nothing happens. it would be only logical to apply the task manager to this button when pressed down and held for a a few seconds
Hey I have heard that NOVA launcher pro allows you to customize some of the these short cuts on the phone.

Aw yeah.
I do not have the phone yet, but I believe holding the home button will bring up the recent apps. This is how it's been for previous android versions before they made a dedicated button for the galnex
that's how it works for my Dinc, on gingerbread and ics

1. open /system/usr/keylayout/gpio-keys.kl
2. add # to the beginning of the line of the key you want to disable
3. reboot
in the same file you can remap power key to home key for example

is there a way to stop the home button from waking the device also? (so only the power button wake the device up)
I wonder if you guys can enlighten me. My goal is to have the Home key under the screen function as the power button, and have the normal power button (on the right side of the phone) function as Home (without waking the device). I want this because I'm always unintentionally hitting the power button when I pick up the phone.
I was able to get the Home button to function as power by changing key 116 to 172 in sec_powerkey.kl. However, now the normal power button doesn't do anything. I tried swapping POWER with HOME in sec_keys.kl, but that doesn't seem to do anything.
Any tips on how to give my power button a function now?

Let us know if it helped...
I am currently using the paranoid android rom and noticed it has an easy way to enable or disable the hardware buttons.
My question is, is it possible to enable and disable the buttons using either a combination of the volume buttons, or a long press of a hardware button. Reason being is i have a 2 year old who loves using flashcard apps but he's always hitting the buttons and messing everything up. I would also like this because it keeps him out of other apps and calling random people.

Is there a way to disable the N button as a home button with CM7? I use the nook for kid entertainment and my 1 year old keeps pressing the N button and it stops video playback.
Depending on what Movie player you use you can lock the device while a video plays so that nothing would happen when he hit the N button. I would have to look through the settings again but I think there is a way to disable the N button but I have never tried it as it helps when an app freezes and I need to get back to the Home screen and to bring the Status bar back when I am running a fullscreen app so that I have access to the soft buttons for back and menu.
Agreed...just try a different player. I love MX Player. Very good and the screen lock also locks out the hard button.

Cool! I never realized that some players can lock the hardware buttons. The one I was using would lock the screen, but not the buttons. MXPlayer has foiled my little one's attempts to press that pesky N. Thanks guys.
