I just need to know which zip file i need too pick from the list: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Check the picture on the first post and tell me which one to pick

Don't flash cf-root, flash any other (ex. Siyah), if you can't found kernel for your version of ROM.

Thank you, it worked perfectly! But what do i do if i want to install a rom and clockwork/rommanager isnt installed? Do i just have to choose CMW zip thats on my SD-card in recovery and install the ROM after ive chose the CMW file?

If you want to install a custom rom, the easiest way would be to first install Siyah kernel. It was already said above!

Root worked?

Hi everybody,
I just foillowed this to root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
I can see superuser and CWM in the app list on my phone so i suppose it worked,
is there anything other that I need to do before i'm able to install custom roms?
I need to know this because I'm on the 4.0.4 original samsung sowtware, and i had read something about an ICS bug in the samsung kernel. So do I need to flash another kernel? (which?!)
(if i want this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846706 all i have to do is reboot in recovery and flash it?)
thx in avance

Hi.
Could someone suggest a custom kernel for getting root and cwm.
I would also appreciate a link to the stock kernel for my phone.

With this method can i then backup my stock Rom and then flash a custom Rom.
And then if i want to go back to stock Rom i would restore backup and use unroot method.
For stock firmware, go to sammobile.com. Register and then get the firmware for your country

I would suggest siyah or dorimanx kernels.
And what is your reason for wanting the stock kernel?

How can i root this?
Have you tried searching?
Look for rachmat3's method. Safest and simplest one around.

It can be a bit tempremental, but it works.Download a siyah kernel for now(say v.4 in .zip form).
Then
Boot into stock recovery.....
Run rachmats cwm.zip(which is temporary cwm).Use the touch facility to scroll.
Then run the su/busybox.zip file.
Dont reboot, then flash the siyah.zip file.
That should be you rooted (with permanent cwm)and with safe kernel.

If you can't find the 4.1.5 version of Siyah kernel, then you shouldn't be rooting your phone.
Jokes aside
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1555259
Something like siyah-s2-v4.0.1-cwm.zip.
I only quoted v4 so you would know roughly which one to go for.
The main thing is to get a safe kernel with permanent cwm.
why go hungry when you can be spoon fed

I think you are misunderstanding some things.. You must first root your phone with cf-root AND THEN, you must flash the Rom with the specified kernel. But you can take a shortcut by flashing siyah kernel. You don't need to rely on baseband version.

2> get into the recovery mode and flash cm 10.1.
3> wipe and clear the cache
4> install g apps..
5> install siyah kernel via recovery (the zip.)

No. Did you read the first post on the CM10.1 Thread?
You have to be running an ics stock rom and then root it.
Afterwards you can then proceed to flash CM10.1.

-then get into recovery mode and flash cm10.1 and the gapps..
-then wipe and clear the cache..
- reboot.
now am i going correct?
btw my query is cf-root kernels they have mentioned kernel versions.. and in the thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118693) they havent mentioned any.. wont that be a issue?

Hey ma8 first use the siyah kernel v4.1.5 or v5.0.1(tar file for ODIN) form PC ODIN to root ur phone, to get a wrk'ng latest CWM recovery on ur phone
then follow the install instruction given in the CM10.1 thread to install the same, the CM10.1 rom comes with its own kernel that will replace siyah after install

so you mean to say that flashing the siyah kernal will directly give me root? Or will i have to use super one click app after flashing the kernel to gain root? One more thing have you tried the method you gave?
Yes it will, no need for any super one click. Once uve flashed siyah, reboot in recovery (which will now be cwm recovery), make a nandroid before you flash anything. Would be a good idea to back up your apps using titanium backup, your sms msgs with an app like sms backup and restore etc. Then proceed to flash the rom, gapps, make wipes etc.

Go into Settings->About Phone and make a screenshot or type exactly what is written there.Include everything.
Why people try to install temporary CWM (the majority don't even realise it's going to be temporary) & don't simply flash a custom kernel which takes 5 minutes & works every time is beyond me.
this...
hope you can help me
Philz kernel. Look it up,read about it, understand what you're about to do and when you do flash away.
