Help Getting Recovery To Work - Motorola Photon 4G

So first thing I did was rooted the Photon 4g with torpedo and it worked.
Second I installed bootstrap recovery and made sure it worked, it did.
Third installed the 198_7 libmoto_ril.so (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1798210) with bootstrap recovery then I installed the SBF that went along with it (in RSD lite of course). Everything was working like normal.
Then I tried to execute the Unlocked bootloader with microboot and TWRP 2.2 recovery sbf and it gave me an error saying "failed flashing process. error processing flash file"
So instead I just used the unlocked bootloader sbf and it worked fine.
Now I'm not sure what to do next as bootstrap recovery no longer works (it just reboots back to my lock screen) and I want to get a custom rom on it (ICS) and make sure that it's unlocked... Any help?
Also info:
Code:
system version 45.3.6.MB855.Sprint.en.US
Model Number MB855
Android version 2.3.4
Baseband version N_01.28.07R
Webtop version WT-1.2.0-160
Kernel version 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #2
Build number 4.5.1A-1_SUN-198_6

Hmm, when did you download the sbf with twrp? I did a mistake, when I made that sbf for the first time. Try to download it again.
You don't need bootstrap recovery, if you want to be unlocked.
After unlocking, you can install the recovery in fastboot, if you keep having problems with that sbf.

I did it about an hour before I made the post, so I don't think I used the old one.
And how would I go about installing recovery in fastboot? I can't seem to figure this out.
Also is there some way I can check if I'm unlocked besides just putting a SIM card in it?
Thanks in advance!

I just downloaded the sbf with twrp and flashed properly.
Try to download it again and flash it from download folder.

Seems to have worked after redownloading. Thanks a lot :good:

[Q] Need some help exactly where to go from here.

I have a phone on 4.1.57 running GreyBlur. The Android Version is 2.2.1
I haven't accepted any OTA updates, but I recently found out that Gingerbread is out.
What is the best way to go on about rooting the phone after the gingerbread update? Flash back to stock, then update, then root? If someone could point me in the right direction it'd be greatly appreciated.
thank you.

Is RSD and CWM the same thing? I don't understand what these two are.
If I'm on 2.2.2, stock w/ root and side-loading enabled, do I skip #1?
why isn't pudding used in any of this?
yes skip #1
RSD is a flashing tool...
CWM is used for flashing too but it's much safer then RSD...
in order to unlock your phone's bootloader u have to do one step using RSD here is a pretty good video tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H02N4p9vEg0 on how to unlock ur bootloader...
on my previous post...2nd link is referring to pudding is it not?

1) I'm already rooted.
2) You say to stay away from RSD but to unlock the bootloader I need to use it correct?
3) I already have Tenfar's CWM.
4) Just choose a ROM that's updated with Gingerbread and Flash?
Thanks for your help

there are 2 versions of cwm. one for locked and one for unlocked. after you unlock you have to fastboot flash recovery to get the good CWM then you can flash roms properly.
RSD the 1.83 pudding
Fastboot oem unlock to unlock bootloader
fastboot flash recovery to get the unlocked CWM
CWM recovery to install roms
As long as you have not OTA to gingerbread then RSD is ok but not recommended. If youhave the OTA gingerbread then rsd will hard brick your device if you try to go back to an older build.

[Q] Flashing stock roms

Hi All
Just a quick question i have a dell steak on o2 2.2 . can i just put stock 2.2.2.version 351 straight on or do i have to change baseband as never hacked the streak as my everyday phone ,phone is now unlocked but don't want to brick handset as the streak is greatest ever
With stock ROMs you don't touch the baseband at all. You DO need to replace the Recovery image with the version that matches the ROM you're installing. So, if you want to install 360 (the current Unlocked ROM), you would need to replace your current recovery with the one from 360, then flash 360 from that.
with recovery do i just use streak mod to install & then rename 360 rom to update.pkg
Any tips greatly appriecated
thanks
StreakMod is just a custom recovery. You flash the stock recovery for 360 the same way you would flash StreakMod (using your computer in Fastboot mode), but you only need StreakMod to flash custom roms. For stock roms you need a stock, matching recovery.
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
I've also have a questions.
Mine is :-
Android version = 2.2.2
Baseband version = GAUSB1A134700-EU
Kernel version = 2.6.32.9-perf
OEM version = GAUSB1A134700
Build number = 15274
Where I can get below stock ROM...? I've google below but no result found.
(Version)_(Build)_(Region).pkg ==> Streak_347_15274_00.pkg
What is the criteria must meet if I want to flash stock ROM...?
Same "build number"? Same "region no"?
Since my version doesn't has a pkg to dload in here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Dell_Streak_5
Can I dload & flash below latest stock ROM to my streak?
http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/manii/Streak_360_17397_00.pkg
360 (version) 17397 (build) 00 (region) May 31, 2011 (build date)
The recovery image and the ROM image you want to flash to need to be the same region. In your case, you have an unlocked Streak direct from Dell (region code: 00). If you haven't rooted your Streak, then you don't have to worry about flashing a new recovery. You can download the latest unlocked ROM, which you linked to in your post, and flash it.
Should you have StreakMod Recovery on your Streak however, you'll have to replace that with a region 00 recovery. For example, since you want to go to 360, you'd have to download the 360 recovery first. After downloading the recovery you would replace the recovery using fastboot commands, and then flash the ROM itself.
P.S. 347 only came direct from Dell. No upgrade path to 347 was possible.
ive trie many ways to load a stock recovery file on phone in fastboot .i 've got the phone to fastboot mode ,pc in cmd mode but unable to get it to work .
please help i thought it was easy maybe ive missed something
Did you install Dell's drivers for the Streak onto the PC? If you didn't, do so now because flashing doesn't work without them. Otherwise, download Multirecovery Flasher from the Android Development forum and run it. Do note that MRF does not have the 360 recovery included. You can simply download the 360 recovery from the usual place and copy it over one of the other recovery files included in the MRF zip.
Hi there thanks for the reply
i did think about changing the file but wasnt a 100% sure so wanted advice, everything seems good to go in fastboot mode but cant seem to transfer the recovery file so will try the way you mentioned later .
thanks

Root with superuser.zip.
You will not have to re-install your apps.
Just remember that when you flash streakmod recovery and reboot you must go into the recovery - do not let the phone boot normally. More info here and here.
Put the superuser.zip on your sd card
Flash streakmod recovery
reboot with fastboot reboot
as you Streak reboots hold both volume buttons to go into recovery
select option 2 and install the superuser.zip
reboot
You are now rooted.
just like to say thanks to everyone that has helped me seemed so daunting for the first time since i bricked my last streak & buggered it completely
great feedback from the forum
now have 2.2.2 360 rooted ,very happy

[SOLVED] Atrix doesn't accept Custom Rom

Hello everybody,
Here's the details of the actual situation i encounter with my lovely Atrix :
-Bought Retail in 2.2 in France
-Updated in 2.3.4 with Motorola tools
-Rooted Successfuly
-Bootloader unlocked (seems it was not necessary because it was a retail and updateed via Motorola tools, as i could read on other boards, can someone confirm this point please)
-Recovery changed to CWM 5.0.2.0 using ROM Manager
I can successfully backup and restore my phone to this state.
Tried to Flash CM7, iBlur! using CWM but everytime i have the same sequence :
Finding update package
Opening Update package
installing update
Installing aborted
without any other useful messages.
Here's the detailed informations about my phone :
System Version : 45.31.0.MB860.Retail.en.FR
Android Version : 2.3.4
Baseband Version : N_01.100.00R
Webtop Version : WT-1.2.0-133_38
Kernel Version (tried to flash a new one, but this didnt worked so i went back to original) :
2.6.32.9 [email protected]#3
APflex version :GAS_EMEA_USAOLYGBRTFR_P018
GAS_EMEA_USAOLYGBRTFR_A005
GAS_EMEA_USAOLYPRTEU_M001
Build Version : 4.5.2A-74_OLE-31
Moreover, since i unlocked the booloader, i can't use anymore the fingerprint reader, but this is not my priority actually.
Tried different things (while i was learning more on this phone)
- tried to put the rom on the SD-Ext instead of SD-int : nothing changes
- tried to rename to update.zip (understood later this wouldn't work anyway) : no changes
Thanks to you all for the time you will spend reading this
Flash latest Romracer's recovery instead of using Rom Manager.
Perform a full fastboot wipe prior to flashing a ROM.
reboot to recovery
wipe dalvik
wipe cache
reboot to fastboot
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase webtop
fastboot erase preinstall
fastboot reboot (to recovery)
flash ROM
when you flash, are you rebooting to CWM and then choosing to install, or trying to do the install from your current ROM (i.e. from ROM Manager)? I've had mixed success with choosing it from within the current ROM.
When you boot to CWM, are you choosing "apply update from sdcard", or are you going to "install zip from sdcard", then "choose zip from internal sdcard" and browsing to your zip'd rom? Again, mixed success with the first option - always have had to choose the second.
When you boot, do you see "unlocked" on the boot screen? I've never heard that Motorola actually followed through on unlocking the boot loader via the update but I could be wrong (and probably am, since I didn't do the OTA update).
@CaelanT : i will follow your instruction step by step - thanks
@tlazarus : - tried both (installing Rom from Rom manager under Android, and rebooting to CWM)
- tried both too (and from sd-ext and sd-int)
- i see Unlocked on my screen - but i did unlock the bootloader - i wasn told that, because i had a retail Atrix and did the update via Motorola tools, i wasn't forced to unlock the bootloader (i found several articles saying that , on GB update, Motorola will unlock the bootlader ...)
My skill and knowledge level on smartphones is low, but i'm familiar with rom flashing on other devices.
i'll give you a feedback asap
Thanks again !
Moto never gave us an unlocked bootloader. We got it from a leaked GB version.
@CaelanT :
ok so i did follow all the steps :
changed my recovery
wipe Dalvik and cache
erased all w/fastboot
reboot to recovery
at this point, everything went OK
tried to flash my rom
same result -"Installation aborted"
can't see what's wrong actually ...
What procedure, step by step, are you doing to flash the ROM?
Have you tried re-downloading the ROM's to make sure you didn't get a corrupted file set?
You could try flashing a Fruitcake from : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163009
I would also recommend flashing SUPEROSR from : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436843
This ROM is very good.
Make sure you are choosing "install zip from sdcard". In my experience it hasn't mattered whether I flash from internal or external.
ok so first of all, THANK YOU !
i did actually follow step by step the previous instruction you gave me.
I downloaded Neutrino, and finally i can now have a custom rom.
I guess i know now why i had some trouble flashing previously :
Bad wipe & clean
maybe not the correct CWM
Rom zip has to be on the internal sd.
anyway, you were really helpfull ... what a pity i can click "thanks" only once !
Glad you finally got it going!

Please help stuck at starting screen

My atrix was on gb2.3.6 bell. Rooted it applied tenfer recovery.Did a back up.tried to install epinter jellybean without success. My bootloader is not unlocked. restarted the phone it got stuck at starting screen. now i am unable to get into tenfer recovery. I got the bell 2.3.6 sbf from this link
http://www.atrixforums.com/forum/be...bell-canada-sbf-found-available-download.html
should i flash it using rsd lite. please reply.
You need an unlocked bootloader for a custom recovery. NEVER ever try to flash a custom ROM and Recovery with a locked bootloader. Since your phone can't boot up, and you don't have an unlocked bootloader, just try flashing the SBF. I don't think you have a second option.
Wrong section by the way.

if still stuck in boot loader download and install RSD Lite V 5.7( attached ) and download 2.2.2 Asia sbf file from here
http://atrix.zombidev.info/sbf/Asia/
and flash it....
if you have unlocked boot loader than it will lock it again ...( works on Bell atrix NOT FOR ATT ATRIX )
than perform this steps to flash jelly bean
1) Root
2) Unlock it using given IHOP_Bell sbf ( attached )... Just Flash IT It will unlock your boot loader automatically if you previously unlocked it OR Do the Bootloader Unlock Process From this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136261
3) Flash Recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500 OR TWRP ...
4) Now you can flash any Custom ROM....
NOTE:- ONLY FOR BELL ATRIX MB860 ( TESTED )... NOT FOR ATT......SHOULD WORK ON MOST INTERNATIONAL ATRIX MB860...
I am not responsible for any damage. Try on your own risk

[Q] Updating by restoring backup

OK, so I need some help
When I first unlocked my DX, I made a CWM backup of the ROM.
Recently I noticed that there are a few newer JB ROMS that Id like to try, but Im on HBOOT 1.24.0000, and whilst using the Custom ROM, unable to update via OTA.
Ive spent a hour or so trying to restore the backup and run OTA, which has worked up to a point.
Heres what Ive done so far.
- Restored by CWM backup (had to fix a MD5 problem)
- Rebooted and OTA downloaded OTA_PROTO_U_ICS_40A_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.18.707.3-1.18.707.1_release_300978id119tizxreo6g0l.zip
- Asked if wanted to update...YES!! I said
- Restarted into CWM and an error about not being able to mount SDCARD
- tried to flash the ZIP file manually and get the check_cid asset failed error (CID mismatch I think).
My CID is HTC_044, but if Im using a backed up ROM from my phone, and OTA is downloading it, why wont it install?
I've also tried relocking (fastboot oem lock) and all it does it reboot back into fastboot (assume there must be something wrong with the ROM backup?).
I can see there are no official region 044 RUU's so what can I do (if anything)?
Can anyone help me out?
Thanks

Since you are now on a Stock ROM, You just have to flash the Stock Recovery then the OTA will install else it will keep restarting into the custom recovery.
