I have several backups made, all of which are full backups. But now when I try and Nandroid restore, it just wipes everything and says it's complete. it takes > 0 seconds to finish "restoring". I have tried re-flashing twrp and even different versions of TWRP. anyone know what's wrong?
I also don't want to switch my recovery to 4ext because i'd loose all my backups.
Are your backups of the proper size? It almost sounds like they are corrupted.
Save the Drama for your Mama with Tapatalk 2
No they are the same size as usual. I did turn off md5 sum generator because I also turned off md5 sum check. It took like an extra minute to backup. But I did that a long time ago and I haven't had problems until now.

Try reflashing the recovery. I had the same problem a few months ago, was never able to figure it out. I just had to start from scratch. But I never tried reflashing the recovery.

I have tried that. I have even tried flashing multiple versions of twrp.
It must be the MDF sum check problem. I just switched to 4ext. I'm kind of disappointed I lost all my backups though :/

I had the same problem, just let it sit at google for 10 min. then pulled the battery booted into recovery and it worked. I wish I could tell you why! but I cant.:crying:

Hi.
I just unrooted and rerooted tonight, I definitely do have root access, but my phone is not restoring my rom I backed up earlier today (or any rom for that matter). It goes thru the restoring process, and within 20 seconds it says "system data not found"...."data not found"....etc. The backup is there, I can see it on my card, its just not restoring it.
I thought I bricked my phone but I was able to install a rom from scratch but badly want to backup as that has all my data but its not doing it......
I'm stumped.
How did you back it up?

Hey guys, I have the twrp recovery (non touch screen version) and a lot of the times when I try to restore to sense (from miui) it just shuts off half way during the restore. Btw this is with more than 50% of battery life. Has anyone else been having issues with this

so id need to flash the sense rom and then restore it??
Idk what you mean. If you made a nand with the old version of twrp you need to flash that version them flash the nand, then flash the new twrp and nand it. Then you would have a band that could be flashed with the current 1.1.xxx twrp

I think what he's saying is that if you made a back up using the old 1.0.3 version of twrp it won't work on the 1.1.1 version which was the latest one before the touch interface recovery.

I have twrp v1.0.0. Whenever I flash miui and then decide to restore back to my sense rom through nandroid restore, it would just shut off.
Then I'd have to reflash the sense rom and start over..
To get sense to fully restore without my phone just shutting off halfway through should I flash sense, reboot the phone, then reboot to recovery and restore??
I hope this makes sense guys.

Try it. I had a similar issue, except it didn't shut off. Mine would just stop half way through restart. I ended up having to wipe and start over because somehow my nandroids got corrupted.

u might want to try to flash recovery again. I had this issue with twrp. Some backups would not restore. I went back to cwm.
This happened to me also it ended up being how I renamed the backup.

Same thing happened to me on the OG Evo. At the time, did not know that renaming them would not let them restore properly.
hello guys. I had done a nandroid of my previous rom, flashed a new one and didn't like it. So now I recovered to my old rom with recovery. Everything seemed fine but one thing.
Every time I try to get back in recovery the phone just reboots. Maybe recovery didn't flash back? Should I just flash a recovery via the bootloader?
Thank you guys in advance.

A restore shouldn't have touched your recovery partition, regardless just try flashing it back.

Flash it again long time ago that happened to me after a nandroid I couldn't boot to recovery so I just went to hboot and flash it with adb.
I just reflashed via the bootloader. Everything seems to be running alright now. Thank you.

the other day i tried restoring a back up via TWRP but it didnt work until i fastboot flashed boot.img...Alright so i updated my TWRP via goomanager app to the latest version (whatever is on there via goomanager) as in the TWRP forum discussions it was stated that previous versions were not working properly wihen restoring. So today i flashed a new ROM (NOS ROM) but that didnt work so i decided what better time than now to try restoring again, no dice didnt work and i had to fastboot flash the boot img for the restore file to take and boot up just fine again...ok peeps what am doing wrong??? again im fairly new at this flashing ROMS scene but i thought witht he TWRP update i would be good to go. Am i missing some settings ticks/options/checks? i saw a check box that said "recovery" i think in the restore or back up process dont remember which process. i tried going onto the TWRP discussion but it is locked down and states that there will no longer be any support for it...should i just switch to CWM?? thanks in advance to whom ever replies

What did you have checked while making the backup? data? recovery? cache? system? and did you rename the back up?
System, data and boot are checked...I didn't mess with the options just hit restore and let it do it's thing...should I change something or check the other 2 boxes (one of them being "recovery" forgot what the other option was)?

That's exactly what I was trying when all this happened...I flashed it via flash gui app like I've been doing but for some reason it didn't work...when I went to unlock screen it would pull up HTC splash screen and just stay stuck there... I'm not S-off yet so would that have something to do with NOS ROM not functioning?

no thats how that rom boots....leave it alone for about 5-10 minutes youlll see the notificatiion light come on and your =e good to go
Let me rephrase that...it boots up, screen comes on silver background from butterfly then I go pull ring to unlock and it pulls up the HTC splash screen once I unlock and will not move from there...so that's when I reset and went back to viper...???

I may have misread but did you wipe everything before loading nos? I saw what was checked for backup but not about wiping. You should wipe everything-system, then cache, then delvik cache-not exactly in that order (make SURE there IS a backup just in case). Load the rom AND flash the correct image file with adb. Also, many roms when FIRST loading up sit a long time before they start up, not sure if nos does this or not-I have been jumpy about the time sitting with a few roms when waiting was all I needed to do. I have had different Viper versions on a few times and moving to another rom was quirky each time I did so, not sure why.
NOS did that to me too. Just wait....it will load into the setup wizard. I think being s-on, which I still am...twrp isn't able to back up and restore your roms boot.img. just a guess but I to failed to restore a backup when an install went awry. Makes sense to be being that you can't install a kernel from recovery either.

I looked at the install instructions for nos, if you are s-on you need to do one extra step. You have to extract the rom into a folder somewhere to get the image file, copy the image file from it. Flash that image file using adb on your pc and THEN install the rom from your phone with goomanager. Without the image file loaded, I don't think it would work. If you are s-off this step is not needed.

I believe it will, if it had the image from the get go. I believe that the back up has everything it needs. At least my back ups have never needed an image file. I decided I should try NOS myself and must say it would not go for me (S-off) it kept rebooting into recovery. I was going to try and also flash the boot image but have not done so yet.

Its the kernel in NOS. Flash NOS and then flash cpalmers kernel. Then reboot and do the setup and if you want to change to the zarboz kernel you need to delete system/bin/thermald or rename it to thermald_old.bak

Hmmm well I did everything via my cell (been the way I've been flashing ROMS unless something goes wrong then I use ADB on computer) and everything when properly done works fine using Flash GUI APP love that app! I've flashed super charged hatka 320 (used that for a couple weeks) then switched over to viper...both using Flash GUI I tried using NOS but yes no dice loaded up but when I pull the unlock ring for whatever reason the splash screen comes up and it won't budge from there....and as for my original question haha TWRP did not work for me when restoring it tripped out like if it was missing the boot image (done that before so I'm familiar with that behavior haha)
Oh and I'm still S-on

I saw this and was excited to see it since CWM/Rom Manager is what I am most comfortable with. The only concern I have is the "loki" issue that is used to get past the locked boot loader since they don't really say thet are using the loki method or not. Just wondering what the status of that is.
Also still squimish about flashing custom roms since my first try on this phone lead to a soft brick "custom unlocked" screen when i used TWRP.
They are using Loki.

Its awesome this is available for the S4 now. Always great to have options, but I think I will stick with TWRP for now. :fingers-crossed:
It's been so long since I have used CWM I don't know what the interface looks like now, lol. TWRP got so far ahead of them interface wise there was never a reason to go back on any of my other devices (TBolt, N7, KF). I may try it now just to try it. Plus I guess ROM control has a poor man's version of 4EXT's kernel control if I am not mistaken.

I had to leave twrp, I rebooted into recovery from touchwiz to install beans2 and I went into a boot loop. I made a backup, wiped everything and the install failed. So I tried to restore my backup and that failed. So I tried another backup and that too failed. I ended up having to Odin to stock so I installed CWR and so far so good. It was weird. I've been flashing since the of droid and I've had 15 different android phones since then and I've never had that happen. Oh well, I had titanium backups of everything and a backup of all mg text so I'm good now....

I've just read somewhere in the last day or so that there was an issue with TWRP 2.5.0.3. that was causing issues. They were saying to go back to 2.5.0.2. and that will fix any issues you are having. I didn't update to .3, been on .2 since root & LOKI bypass without any problems at all. Just thought I'd throw that out there for anyone who hasn't heard about it.

I think so...not sure how they got the proprietary binaries.
You can use 64 GB cards in CWM if you format to fat32. I just formatted my card to fat32 and rest easy that pretty much anything ever made can read it.
Everyone has this thing where fat32 can't do 64 GB cards and that is simply not true. Windows won't do it natively but there are other format tools that will. The 32 in fat32 is not 32 GB, its 32 bits as in able to address 4 GB. So files are limited to 4 GB. That's why all the recoveries are breaking up the big repositories into volumes, so they don't exceed 4 GB. That 4 GB limitation is an issue for recording HD video...and that's about it.
edit: by the way, not saying you did not realize that...I got your question...just wanted to get that out there.
