Porting HTC Locations from Stock to Custom ROM - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Hi,
I've recently moved from the LeeDroid HC ROM to Dexter's JB rom.
Is it possible to port the HTC Locations application from the 'stock' to custom roms for ICS or JB?. I realise that Google Maps are available, but I'd like that with the HTC Locations application I could have the entire map available without the need for a data connection.
Thank you
Iain

original HTC Updates on cooked ROM?

Hi,
if i use a cooked ROM (cooked by myself with osKitchen, based on HTC original Sources) in my phone, is it possible to install updates from HTC website (like mp3 Ringtone problem fix etc..) or do i have to integrate this updates in the kitchen before cooking?
Greetings!
Always better to integrate.....when the problem is not fixed in your Rom to start with.....
Update of HTC hotfix is always possible since it uses your IMEI number which does not change when cooking Rom.

Extract The Kernel?

Hi guys.
as some may know that the new 2.1 rom for the hero doesn't contain things like friendstream etc etc..
but there has been roms such as VR5 and 6 prior to the official release to which contained these which were ported from the legend or Eris or some other Sense UI rom.
I was wondering would it not be possible to extract the kernel from the official rom and dump it in one of these other roms and try cook around this?
As i'm not a dev i don't know how possible this is, but i was just wondering as the Kitchen from here and theunlockr has an option to use a kernel from another rom into a rom that you are cooking.

Port Android 2.1 vanilla?

As you know the HTC Hero GSM comes with HTC's sense, and I was wondering if there was a way to put the original Android 2.1 on the HTC Hero (basically a clean ROM from Google) without any modifications, hacks or HTC stuff.
I know other devices run Android and must run Google's vanilla android such as the Nexus one, so if I were to port it, how would I go about doing this?
Thanks if you can help
...or you could just look in the Development section? There are tons of vanilla roms that have already been made, and are just awaiting you to put them on your phone?
Why would you go to all the extra trouble of making your own if there are already ones which have been tried, tested and then tested again by many many users?
Have a look: /forumdisplay.php?f=512
I know this already
I just wanted to know if there was a STOCK Android 2.1, you know like you download the stock 2.1 ROM for HTC Hero, is there one for android 2.1, the original provided by google?
It sounds silly but I just wanted an original ROM if possible
Ahh okay I see! No, Google don't provide ROMs for any device except their own Nexus One. HTC provide ROMs for the Hero, and every official HTC Hero ROM has Sense UI on it.
So your best bet is to go with one of the ones provided here. The only things that make them differ from the standard ones are some of the additional feature support as well as the support for the Hero handset.
Hope that helps.

Custom rom for hero

Hi guys! I need tour advice. I want to bring this htc sence and all htc softaware on my hero to hell, and i need some advice about custom rom.
What of all custom rom's don't include this creepy htc software and work nice w/o bugs and so on?
Hi. Check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=889299
You will have to look on the AOSP - no Sense ROMs.
Gingerbread ROMs are still Beta, but 2.2 ROMs have everything working fine and are really fast.
Elelinux gingerbread rom is really the best IMHO now try it out from the developement threads
Agree on using elelinux gingerbread now starting to prefer the stock ROM (though need to use a dialler replacement!)

[Q] HTC Explorer upgrade

Jaggy Rom
Look at this thread

No, it is not possible to install ICS on the Explorer, via official or custom ROMs. The internal storage requirements have increased for ICS from GB, and the Explorer no longer meets those requirements. If a custom ROM were to be created, it would/will have to have many features/components removed to streamline the OS for the lower storage available. However, at this point there is no AOSP compliant kernel available for the Explorer, meaning AOSP ROMs (such as ICS) and AOSP based ROMs (such as CyanogenMod, AOKP or SlimDroid) cannot be created. The only custom ROMs currently possible are modifications of the stock ROM, such as JaggyRom, linked in the post above.
