Hello I am a new user of the Samsung Galaxy Tab, and for the time I like to keep things simple as you can see with my home tab screenshot.
What I noticed through another thread in the forum "post your home screen" is that I am the only one who has that page navigation squares at the top of the home screen.
My question is, is how can I hide it too?
Isn't it kinda funny when in a thread "pot your home screens" there is nobody that has the squares instead of me, and nobody wants to answer me how? :silly:
They use a different launcher. Personally, I use apex launcher. You can get it from the play store!

I myself use adw launcher ex, it allows a custom ammount of screens. If you read the thread you mentioned, you'd know a lot of people use different launchers, no way to remove it from the stock touchwiz launcher, though.

Okay I've looked for this for about a half hour and couldn't find anything so I'm sorry if this has already been asked.
I downloaded go launcher ex so that I could have the scrolling dock. I don't necessarily need the scrolling part but would like 5 icons. How do I get the 5 icons and still have the fancy new "add to home screen" pop up window still at the bottom? I don't like the one that pops up in the middle of the screen.
I am still a noob, so plz explain any answers. Thank you

You cannot change the amount of icons in the dock using the stock Touchwiz 4 launcher.
There are a lot of launchers to choose from which do have the option you
are looking for, however I would suggest NOT to use a different launcher
because the stock Touchwiz 4 is a lot faster and much smoother than any
other launcher I have tested so far. (and I have tested just about all of them).
I am using ADW Ex with the black glass theme dockbar(i think, i do know that black glass does have 5 icons). And my icons are from various adw themes for the colors. Adw is very very smooth and I don't mind giving up touchwiz for more customization.

GTG mentioned that someone has a tweaked version of TW4 that has 5 Icons. Not sure if it works well on the GSII but he mentioned it in his rom thread. Pretty sure it's on page 1 or 2.
Thanks so much everyone. I'll look into the touchwiz 4 tweak. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Hello, sorry for asking this question.
But is it possible to have ADW launcher have the default app drawer or are the launcher and appdrawer tied together. eg you can only have one or the other. The device in question is the motorola xoom wifi. I didn't post this in the xoom forums because its more of a general android question concerning launchers on a tablet then it is a device specific question.
Reason being is because I enjoy having ADW launcher's ability to take up the full screen on my xoom as opposed to have the columns on either side where you cant place app (wasted screen real estate if you ask me, since theirs no need for a tapping area when you can swipe to change screens). But at the same time I very much enjoy the ICS app drawer and being able to see a visual representation of my widgets and what not.
Does anyone know if it is possible to have both the ICS app drawer and a custom launcher? By this I mean to have the custom launcher home screen and the default appdrawer? I have googled but I haven't found an answer Thats why im asking. I don't know enough about android to figure it out on my own, So can you have both your cake and eat it too? Or is the homescreen tied to their respective launchers. Eg you cant have the default app drawer without also using the default homescreen launcher? Or is it possible to mix and match app drawer's with a launcher. my initial feeling is that they're tied together, But considering im sure someone else has wondered this before, I thought I would ask. I hope I explained this well enough. Thank you all in advance for your replies and any help rendered.

Edit; Clarified.
ya i was browsing for the same thing on the market. no luck though.
hi, probably a generic android tablet question, but on my prime the icon to launch the app drawer is in the top right hand corner of the home screen, is it possible to put this on the "tray" on the bottom of the screen, where back, home and multitask icons are?
no one?

Great question. Actually wondering if it can be moved onto the homescreen like an app shortcut. Seems so far away up there in the corner like that.

In any launcher (Google it!) I have used the answer is no. In some cases like ADW Launcher, you can a "Launcher action" that gives an icon you can tap to open the app drawer. I'm not aware if the launcher in ICS and HC allow this, never tried. In custom launchers it is also not uncommon to be able to bind such a thing to a gesture, like swipping your finger up or down the screen.

I use Go Launcher and I use the home button to open the app drawer at the bottom left.

here, dood, lemme help ya *double facepalm*
this is launcher specific, and cannot be changed in ics or hc launcher. if you HAVE to change it OP, use go launcher, its pretty B.A.
So umm, I see a lot of people talking about "changing the launcher". But I do not know what a launcher is. I see it in my settings (running MIUI on my Infuse 4G).
So my question, and yes I know I probably sound like a knowledgeless-fool. But, what is a launcher?
A launcher is an interface replacement that gives u a new home screen and app drawer. U can customize it a lot according to ur choice
Best are go launcher, adw and launcher pro
I think this will help you. if it does please THANK me.

Like ICS said, a launcher changes your homescreen and appdrawer, making it prettier and sometimes even more useful. I haven't used MIUI personally. Maybe it comes with a launcher, and maybe it has some features that a new launcher would duplicate. I know CM7 comes with ADW Launcher.
My favourite things about LauncherPro: First, you can change the homescreen grid size. Second, you can swipe between multiple docks. You can make dock icons link to activities, not just applications. And you can assign different shortcuts for swiping a dock icon. So if I press the phone icon, it goes to the dialer; if I swipe it, it goes to the call log. Plus any launcher is going to be prettier than stock, but MIUI is beautiful itself.
There's no harm in trying out a couple of different launchers. I prefer LP, others prefer Go or ADW. I know Go and ADW are much more theme-able. The only thing is that with a rom like MIUI that already looks good, a new launcher might look out of place.
Launcher is the bit you see and use when your not running an app or making a phone call.
You can change it easily by going to the android market and downloading a new one like nemus launcher or go launcher ex.
Once downloaded they will auto install. You can try the new launcher without changing your current one by pressing phones home button.
Menu pops up asking which launcher to use, choose the name of the new one and try it out.
If you want to keep it press home again but before choosing new launcher this time tick the box it shows saying "use as default launcher".
If you don't like it just do the same with the tick but choose your original launcher instead.

I.. do not understand.. So it is like a theme?
Not exactly. It's a replacement.
For example, suppose ur running the stock eclair with the slide up vertical app drawer
Now, u want a button to launch the drawer., and u want it to be horizontal. How will u do it?
Enter Launchers
It replaces the drawer with its own, and its own dock bar
In short, it is not a theme, but a replacement that CAN BE THEMED

You know Sense, AOSP and Touchwhiz? Well they are default "Launchers"
Launchers can be downloaded from the market w/o root.
They are like a different style of homescreen...
The launcher is the programm you use to launch or start an app on your phone. The launchers UI (User Interface) is what you see as your home screen. Changing the launchers behaviour means changing the way icons are displayed or the pages flip. It lets you customize the way your phones OS feels and looks.
Does this answer your initial question?

If you are running ICS, Nova Launcher is a good one to check out too. It can be found in the Google Play Store. There is a pay version, but the normal one is fully featured IMO. Of course, try out a few and see what you prefer for your setup. When I hit the home button on my phone, it lets me select which launcher it uses by default so you can swap them out.
I did a search of the forum and found no applicable threads. This may seem like a noob question and I guess it is. I have had an SGSII running unnamed rom for over a year. It died today and was forced to buy a new SGS III. I am not familiar with ICS and it appears I cannot add contact shortcuts to the home screen. Anycut app is not avail. through the Playstore so I can't use that.
Any input would help. Thanks.
If I remember correctly, there is a contact widget in the widgets tab in the app drawer.

that or use Android Power Widget . they have options that look like the "contacts" widget from HTC Sense.
