No! I'm hoping ICS from Chaos-X will finally solve the intermittent lock issue. The best ROM I have used to date though is IOIDROID, while hoping for an ICS daily...
Err... Have any of you seen that aGPS thing by crypted? I get about 5-10 sec lock.

It’s not that GPS doesn’t get a lock it just won’t keep lock for more than 30 sec to 1 min.
Seems to be only happing on the Flyer not so much the View
I’ve been in weekly contact with HTC for 3 months now. They have acknowledged there is a problem and keep promising a fix.
I personally don’t believe they are working on a fix. I think they are just waiting for all of us to get tired of asking and just go away.
I have had my attorney send them a letter demanding a fix or a refund.
I have 4 Flyers … HTC broke them HTC needs to fix them.
Well I flashed that GPS fix and I keep lock... maybe YMMV
I have found that the GPS seems to work just fine after boot- for a while, maybe 10-15 minutes...Just when you think it's working well it drops and re-aquires lock continuously...every few seconds-in fact. this behaviour may confuse a lot of users into thinking that it works ok.I have wasted a lot of time on this with at least 4 different ROMS, and all the patches I could find to help maintain a constant lock, still has the same issue. I haven't yet tried an ICS Rom, only HC.

Verizon 6800
ROM: DCD 3.2.0
Radio: 3.42.30
I've used multiple GPS apps so far such as HTC GPS Tool, GPS Viewer, etc and sometimes they see 1 sat, sometimes none. I live in Portland, OR .. there's definitely satellites above =)
I've let it scan for 30+ minutes.
I have gone through all the guides so far .. soft resets, turning on and off the GPS location, using astrogos loader before trying Google Maps, Navizon, Live Search, etc.
No dice.
Any ideas?
ever since I loaded this radio I have not been having luck getting gps locks either.
exact config as yours.
I also did the gps fix that GC posted
Would like to figure this out also
Well, if multiple people have the issue with this radio, maybe its a bunk release and we need to downgrade to something like 3.24.02.
I might try it later tonight if I get the chance.
EH, nm ...

Thats the release thread for the radio version we're on and people are obviously not having issues with it ... hmmmmm
Updates after more forum reading ...
I've done the GPS fix @: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=400975
I'm set to GPS Mode 2.
Still no locks.
Edit:
Another question ... if when using QPST you see that your 7500 modem is on COM5 vs where on most people's its on COM4, does that mean I should set the External GPS option on the phone to COM5 and start using that for everything going forward? I've tested both with no discernable difference in results testing .. but thought I should ask.
This may sound stupid, but have you been trying it outside or inside?
When I first tried to get a GPS lock back when I did the 2.1.0 flash, I tried in my room for hours. Sat it by my window, and the battery eventually drained trying to get a lock, with no luck.
Once I went outside, it was a completely different story. Even having the phone by a window wasn't good enough... I had to be outside to get any kind of GPS lock with it.
Issue resolved. Must have been something wrong with the radio firmware I used because I loaded another one and it worked.
Would you mind sharing which radio revision worked for you?
i just did another update dialing #228 and option 2
After the reboot, I got a lock in less than 10 seconds. Might be a coincedence but oh well.
The gps in this is so sporadic, sometimes it locks immediately, most times it takes forever
????
3.42.30 works good with sprint. Actually i get fastest lock out there out of all radios!

if ur on sprint you should have run the sprint gps fix, which includes updating the spring pri. you should be getting locks in under 10 seconds.
you should also be very thankful that u arent on verizon like me and happy when u get a 3 minutes gps lock.
(sometimes takes me alot more)
i still havent decided if its a phone problem or a location thing.
I live in NYC, so wherever i go im surrounded by buildings...big ones, and lots of em, so im sure this has alot to do with my crappy gps times.
anyone out there on verizon in NYC who gets good locking times?
just wondering
thanks
I was in NYC for a week and never got my GPS to work the whole time I was there. Otherwise my GPS works fine.
Now that there is a way to unlock the phone is there a way to use the internal FM Radio and GPS on the Verizon Touch Pro?
Thanks
<--Anxiously waiting.....
Not yet. We are still waiting for that function.
Scott's VZW ROM in this forum has VZ navigator working... I assume that means that aGPS is unlocked.

GPS is working but it's not unlocked. Its tied to VZ Nav like the stock ROM.
As far as the FM Radio I dont beleive we have one. We have a slightly differnt chip than the rest of the world as well as the lack of memory.
The reason that brings me to this conclusion: Flashed sprint ROM with a known working radio program and it just locks my phone up. Anwyas, thats my GUESS.
Not sure if anyone else has seenthis but it was posted over at PPCGEEKS this morning.

If it's true, then we should be good to go sometiem before Christmas next year (sarcasm there).

Yeah, but its Stand Alone GPS. Not aGPS. Stand alone sucks. Yeah, it will work if you have 10 to 15 minutes possibly to wait on a fix.
BUT I will say this... If they unlock GPS then someone should be able to unlock the aGPS ;c)
Eitherway.... I guess its better than nothing. Also, if you can get a lock wth VZNav, which is aGPS then you could just launch your normal GPS app. But eitherway, its all speculation... Lets see what happens.... I got my fingers crossed!
Just an FYI, on the GSM Variants were finding improved GPS with aGPS disabled...

So I've done a lot of searching and haven't really found anything definitive. I've found that with some roms I'll lose GPS signal after a certain amount of time (say 10-30 minutes) and have to turn GPS off and back on or reboot the phone. I saw something about flashing a different radio may make a difference. Kinda just wanted to see other peoples thoughts on the issue or if maybe there is something else I can do before I go flashing a different radio.
Currently running CELB 4.1 and baseband 2.42.01.04.27 and I have the issue.. I've had it with most of Tazz's roms as well. KaosFroyo is the only one Ive used that I've never seen the issue with, but I'm really diggin CELB right now and this is the ONLY issue I've got with it.
Have you tried GPS status in the market? I know it will help you lock in a signal, so it would make sense that it would also help keep your GPS locked in.

I have now.. I did the reset and download options in the program. Too bad this isn't something I can quickly test. I'll report back with the results. Thanks!
I have noticed this as well. Last time it happened to me it was 4:30 in the morning, and the "GPS lost" message came up about 180 seconds before I had to make two freeway changes in an area I'd never been before. (CELB 3.9 and same radio as your case). Fortunately for me I had reviewed the route, so I more or less knew what to do.
If I recall correctly, it has always happened after the Nav app had been running for a fair bit of time - at least 30 minutes or more.
However, I don't know if it is something about the root ROMs or not - I started using rooted ROMs back in March or so, so I really don't have a tremendous operating baseline on stock 2.1 ROMs to compare it to. Maybe it is a problem there, too!
If I recall correctly, the last time it happened, I just pulled up GPS Status and asked it reload the aGPS state (without exiting the Nav app), and the Nav app seemed to gracefully recover.
Annoying? Yeah. I don't know what can be done about it, though - like the "undead calls" problem, it happens so infrequently that it is hard to know whether or not a ROM change actually fixes the problem.

I had the same problem with every 2.2 rom I used GPS with. I decided to go back to 2.1 because I have been needing GPS alot more often lately but I havent tested it out since I made the switch. I'll try it out today and report the results tonight.
This same thing seemed to happen on the 2.1, CyanogenMod 5 based ELB by Conap as well. If it is happening with all of the 2.2 ROMs, I wonder if it's just a CyanogenMod issue?
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6812308#post6812308 (this was not the only person reporting it, if you search that thread.)
I really don't think it's ALL 2.2 CM roms though. I've gone on 7 hour car trips with Kaos Froyo without a single drop.. to and from. I've seen another theory somewhere around here about it being certain hardware revisions that act this way with certain software builds. At lease we've got a thread dedicated to this issue now.. maybe we can get something figured out.
Still don't know if the GPS status program helps.. I left navigation turned on for a bit sitting in my house and it stayed connected for the half an hour I left it, just don't think that's gonna be an accurate test with not moving around and all. If it doesn't work I will try a different radio.. I saw somewhere one guy had good luck with a specific older version radio. If that's what it comes down to I'll try.
I have been having issues with the GPS working on both of my phones while using 2.2 roms. I switched to 2.1 a few days ago and I used the GPS on my way to work this morning and didnt have any issues. I also had to flash Senseable a couple of months ago while on a road trip because I was tired of loosing the GPS signal every half hour. It may be a CM thing.
Im having the same issues as well. Haven't found a fix yet..
I've had this issue, after I flashed KaosFroyo(v36), and XTR(4 i think). I recently unrooted using Flashback21 v1 and flashed with the radio included. I have gone back to xtr 5 now and have had no lost gps in over a week. Don't have a clue as to why. hope it helps someone.

give us another update. is the gps problem still fixed for you? Thanks!
I have flashed the radio directly with the verizon zip file that is around and I still get inconsistent results But it always drops a signal eventually in about a 1/2 hour

I've seen it on several ROM's as well. From what i've messed with, it doesn't seem to be dependent on the autokiller memory preset, radio firmware, or amount of overclocking i'm doing. It doesn't seem to be dependent on how many programs are running either. I usually have nav and pandora running while i'm in the car, and sooner or later, the gps poops out.
I feel like it seems to happen less, now that i'm back to using the on-demand governor. but that could just be in my head.
I've had to go back to a 2.1 rom because of it. Its very annoying when the goa signal gets lost right before the exit ramp.

Im thinking of going back to a 2.1 rom as well...
I have also seen the same results on any 2.2 or higher rom. I have since returned to XTRRom 5.0 and have not had a single problem with GPS on any of my jogging runs. I definitely think it is a CM thing. At least on my phone.
Using kaosfroyo v39 and I flashed that sprint phone radio on my eris and haven't had any gps issues. In fact, just the opposite. Mine would lock up before the v39 and the radio flash
I flashed that radio as well and today not one issue at all. Will test more tomorrow
I'm using the 2.42.02.10.29 sprint radio and still seeing it drop out.

Today I even flashed back to the July 2010 version (2.42.01.04.27). the gps dropped out almost every 5 minutes while i was driving around. that's the worst i've seen. So i flashed back to the 2.42.02.10.29 sprint radio again. I haven't seen very good navigation performance on the v1.1 gingershedbread overall, actually. my position on the gps nav doesn't update very often, although it seemed like the voice instructions were still pretty well timed as usual.
My GPS worked fine on Froyo (7 to 10m accuracy) but with any of the currently ported Gingerbread GPS drivers, it takes a minute or even more time to lock. I tried Simply Honey and Hybrid GB ROM and it takes 10 minutes to lock on first boot and should be instant afterwards. I have tried rebooting and reflashing but no luck. Renamed angrygps.apk back and forth but the issue still persists.
Just wanted to know if everyone has this issue or just me ?
better to post this in there respected threads!!
Using GPS testing software mine also takes a little longer than it did in Froyo to lock. However if I leave wireless assist on google maps finds me almost instantly. By the time I've entered an address and initiated nav the GPS is locked....
I'm willing to live with a little longer lock times to run GB for now.

It's more luck than anything it even works. We'll have to wait for our own drivers (aka a leak) for it to work well

Thank you for getting it to work without a leak yet
Just wanted to know if its normal behaviour.
I would be thankful it locks at all.. mine doesnt
Mine takes like 10 minutes to lock. lol.
I usually don't need GPS but it's good to have. Now I would love to have a working wificalling on either 2.2.1 or 2.3.4
I was messing around in the Android Apps and Games forum and found this post. So then I wanted to share it with you guys.

My question is... could this be used in any way to improve our development?
As if this "fix" could be built into our ROMs or radios or SOMETHING to connect to a GPS quicker?
Just a thought...
I think the agps pstch does the same thing. Also GPS status from the market can do the same thing.

I think all these GPS fixes dont do anything personally....a long time ago someone suggested to get a satellite fix, then reinstall the ROM and it will lock almost instantly every time. And it has been working for over a year. I have done it to 3 different thunderbolts besides my own and worked. I never use these "fixes." Im no pro at this software stuff but trial and error is my expertise and when it works perfectly every time on multiple of the same device, id say thats the best way to do it.

I mostly agree. I just went through this process, having gone from a Sense-based ROM (BAMF SOAB 1.4) to an AOSP-based ROM (Thundershed 1.6). Despite the new ROM having the AGPS fix baked in, I still wasn't getting a GPS, so I made a nandroid, flashed back to an old nandroid I had of SOAB, opened up Google Maps, to get a satellite, then opened up GPS Status (from the Play Store, free) to find the strongest lock I could (9 out of 9 satellites), then immediately went to reboot into recovery and restored my Thundershed nandroid. I then opened up Google Maps then GPS Status again, found I was locked onto 10 of 10 satellites, and I was good to go.

I agree with him. GPS don't do much anymore. The 4g signal does more than the GPS. You could not run a GPS app without data connection. basically all they use gps for is to find exact location. And soon i think that they will probably discontinue gps in a phone!
