Internal SD card problems won't be picked up! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK so basically I went from gingebread to jellybean by going to ICS in between. Whilst on ICS I noticed that the internal SD card wouldn't mount and in recovery it showed all of the file folders that there should have been but nothing in them. Now I'm on jellybean its the same. Is there any way to get it back to normal without going to stock?

check in file explorers for EMMC that will be your ext sd, if it shows up that way, look for an app on xda called RemountSD that will make your ext sd be shown as ext sd instead of emmc

I just get this.
OK what's happened is that the two files that I put on the external SD card are in download and nothing is in the external SD card file. I just need my internals back.

Update: I can't take a screenshot of notifications but that other screenshot I took, in notifications under the screenshot it says SD card is currently in use and shows a USB symbol although my phone is charging from a wall socket.

Try...from that screen press favourites, hopefully your get this (screenshot)
then press the phone icon and hopefully your get (2nd screenshot)
from there hopefully your find all your stored ext sd files in the emmc folder. If that is the case the i would recommend finding the RemountSD apk on xda, it saves alot of confusion finding your files

I just get this.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app

from there press the phone icon and you should get my 2nd screenshot appear (root folders etc) the emmc folder should be in there aswell
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium

This is what I get. There was 2 lines more but thy were nothing.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app

Only thing i can suggest is if its nothing is in your extSD folder in that area then as a long shot, try fi ding and using the RemountSD app, do a search on the xda forum, it should be easy to find, once its installed tell it to remount and hopefully that will solve your problem and everything will be found on ext sd
this is the link to the app, hope that helps

Thanks for the help but the apo didn't do anything because I think the locations are wrong. I'll try reverting back to stock gingerbread or ICS later...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app

No probs, hopefully someone will be able to help out more, i've not used any JB roms yet, if your looking for something custom but close to ICS the neutrino rom is quite good, comes with the remountsd aswell, i've not had any probs so far over the last month or 2 using it

Try ics sd binder first and see if that helps

Ok if it helps when i go into storage instead of internal sd card it says usb storage.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app

Can you access it from recovery, mounts and storage and back them up to a pc. Not practical but at least you might salvage your pics.
Also I used ICS SD binder with no problems, you have to change the file path from emmc to extSdCard though otherwise it won't find it.

Apparently all it needed was a factory reset/wipe data.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app

Edit I was wrong. Basically I wiped and rebooted into f1 pure gnex rom. Went into camera and behold my 500 pictures were there but all blank. I then rebooted again and they all disappeared.

Confusing but internal swapped with external storage in recovey

Hey, today when I was switching roms in recovery I went to thr internal sd card where all my files are and the list of files was massively smaller and nothing in the download section where all of my roms are and noticed that the exterbal option had all of my files...
Now on the computer when I try to import pictures it cant find the path apparently...
Is this a known problem?

Can't view storage space on phone internal

I have clean ROM installed also did a fresh install to see if that was the issue. And it remains. It stays stuck calculating and never moves. Any idea before I go ahead and format the internal SD card.

Have you tried to use your stock file explorer? Root explorer im sure your familiar with but I found that the stock works way better for viewing and transfering files.

It's created by some third party app. Just ignore it or remove it.

Storage Full??

So when I go into storage it said I have 9gb of "other" ?? Anyone have an idea what it can be? I've looked everywhere through my phone to find these mysterious files.

Try file manager in root mode and check for your old files and ROM backups in /data/media folder.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
OK just to be sure here. I'm on a 4.2 rom as well and I have a about 9 gigs taken up. I turned es file Explorer on root mode and unhid the hidden files. I looked and there was a data/media folder with about 9 gigs in it. Should I delete this and I will be fine?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
That's all your personal data. Don't delete the whole thing but look for the large directories under there.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Well I looked through there and it seems to be almost a copy of my SD card folder. I looked through all the files and there is 5 files with the exact same contents. They are all identical to the SD card folder and they are taking up the same amount of space . the files are SD card, inside the data/media and 0 inside the same folder. Inside the storage folder there is both sdcard0 and legacy. All these have the same contents.
What's up with this?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Your old home folder is /data/media the new one is the 0 folder. You can delete most of the duplicates from media, and can move anything into 0 that you want to keep.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
When you upgrade from a 4.1.1 rom to a 4.2.2 rom or 4.3 rom your storage changes from sdcard0 to something else so you will find a lot of duplicates that can be deleted. Just for future reference.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
If you check the size of the /data it will probably explain the missing space. Just backup your important info to the pc and do an internal wipe

Similar issue, except /data/media doesn’t appear to be what's using my space. See attached screenshot for details. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Thanks, but would you mind giving me some specifics on what directories/file systems to format? The space usage for me doesn't appear to be in /data/media like many others have posted so part of my problem is that I'm not sure where to look.

Okay. Would I be flashing my ROM/kernel combination after that step?
I assume that restoring a backup might introduce problems so probably better to stay away from that??
Thanks

That screenshot is useless, depending on if you are using android 4.1.x or android 4.2.x
4.2.x introduces a new filesystem and starts using a new directory /data/media/0
all of your old data is still in /data/media and your phone is looking at /data/media/0 for sdcard space
it calculates total space by how big /data media is and its contents are under /0 (the 0 is the user that is on the device, /1 would be a second user account, however user accounts are disabled on phones)

SDCard help. WTF just happened?

I'm using a 32 Gb Class 10 card from my S3, removed everything S3 related and installed into my S4. Now today I take a pic, browse my gallery, then haven't touched my phone except to text (about an hour goes by) . I go back into my gallery and it's empty. Music? Gone. Same for videos. Check my SDCard via root explorer. Managed to locate thumbnails, that's it, no other media. Yet all my files and programs that I saved to it to keep handy are still there. ANY ideas? Or ANY way to recover the lost media? I'm not sure I even have everything as my laptop crashed at one point after I backed up my card last.

You might have deleted all the data but you can get most of it back. As long as you dont put more stuff back on the sd card. Have you tried using your pc to see if the contents are gone?
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.
Not sure how I would have erased just my media and no other files but I'm at work so I'll have to check on my laptop when I get home. Most everything is backed up to one cloud storage or another but I'm on limited data right now and it's 20+ Gb

Im having the same issue with my 32gb on my mj7 s4. Suppisedly last year sanddisk put out a bad batch of micro sd cards. Go to their website and file an inquiry to get a new one. Thats what I'm in the process of doing. If a replacement renders the same issue try to exchange your device. Thats my next course of action.

Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
Sure you didn't reformat it at some point? I know in Slim there is an option to format the sd card under Settings -> Storage. Perhaps you inadvertently did that?
Again, ONLY my media disappeared. Pictures, video, and music. ALL other files and folders were intact.
