There are no xperia s devices locked to AT&T. AT&T does not sell the XS and any XS sold through a US retailer is sold unlocked.

The only way you can unlock any Sony 2012 device is through the carrier. If your friend is in the UK, ask him to do that. Also selling devices while on contract is against ToS on most carriers so he might have to cancel his beforehand.

I will be buying an Unlocked HTC EVO 3D from USA.
I wanted to know if it will work in INDIA with a Vodafone sim.
Will i have any problems with any features of the phone(since the phone is unlocked). And can i upgrade the the software i mean from android 2.2 to anything i want? Will it get locked again after upgrading? Can it get bricked?
I need urgent reply as my sister is coming from the US and she has to order an unlocked phone. Any suggestions are welcome.
Thank you

If it is a GSM EVO 3D and not a CDMA it will work with your sim.
I think it comes with 2.3, but you can always unlocked the bootloader and flash your own roms. Based on your question, I'm guessing you should not due to inexperience.
It should not relock if it unlocked, and any phone can be bricked if you do not know what you are doing.
Thanks a lot!!! I guess i will be buying the evo 3d gsm. P
Don't buy it from XDA member Jaywan
It should work but anyways you can always use the sim unlock method if it doesnt...

I would say make sure it is a generic gsm handset if not you could spend hours on the phone to the USA. Also don't know if it would be possible but try and check the IMEI with your service provider. I have spent many an hour explaining to people over the phone that there handset has no service because it's blacklisted.
I bought my sgs3 GT i9300 from the agent in Singapore ,but there are some singtel carrier apps so i want to know if it is a network unlocked or locked phone and if it is the international version and why there are some carrier apps

Depends on where your bought it from....e.g if purchased from an o2 store the device will be locked to o2, whereas if purchased from phones4u or carphone warehouse the device will generally be sim free

In Singapore, all phones are sold unlocked by law. Most likely, it is unlocked.

In October 2012, the Librarian of Congress, who determines exemptions to a strict anti-hacking law called the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), decided that unlocking mobile phones would no longer be allowed. But the librarian provided a 90-day window during which people could still buy a phone and unlock it. That window closes on January 26.
Unlocking a phone frees it from restrictions that keep the device from working on more than one carrier's network, allowing it run on other networks that use the same wireless standard. This can be useful to international travellers who need their phones to work on different networks. Other people just like the freedom of being able to switch carriers as they please.

Maybe this might wake some people up since it is tyranny that directly effects you .

Hmmmm......Just one sentence comes in my mind.... " MARKETING STRATEGY "...............
Honestly it really is impressive to see how in some countries the governemental institutions can only act as businesses little *****es.
In my country, carriers are entitled by law to provide you with a way to unlock your phone 6 month after you signed the contract, on demand.
Thank god in Indonesia there is no Restriction for this... And i already Unlocks mine so it doesnt affect me

in germany it is like this: when u buy a phone with ur contract that lasts at least 2 years (the contract) u get a simlock free phone on nearly all carriers, or you can buy it for the real price (like around 500 euros depending on the phone)
then we have these so called prepaid things, where have no contract in the classic way, and with these u only get simlocked phones, but the carriers have to provide the sim unlock code after 2 years
Yeah it really is different from country to country.
In France, where i'm from, you either buy a full-price phone, either the same phone at a cheaper price but simlocked. But 6 month or 1 year after the signing (depending on the contract), your operator HAVE TO give you the unlock method and the code if you ask.
In Japan, where i live, phones are created by constructor, but sold to operators, wich means each phone model is actually branded. Not only it is sim locked, it is completely hardware locked - for example, the Xperia Ray is only available at Docomo and will not work on the Softbank network. Once your contract is over, well, you either sign again with the same operator or buy a new phone from another ...

[Q] Can someone with an At&t account, unlock my Nokia 920 (*I will pay you for it*)
Hi guys,
So a couple of months ago, i bought a brand new Nokia Lumia 920 from ebay but the thing is that it was (and still is) sim locked by At&t US
so basicly i bought a really expensive camera/music player
I live in Belgium (Europe) so the chances of me using it on ATT are zero.
I have paid some site that claimed that they would unlock it but they didnt succeed and ATT needs some kind of an proof that i am or was a former att costumer so i am stuck with this great phone that cant be used as a phone xs
So my question to you guys is; Can someone that was or is an att costumer unlock my phone with his account?
I wil pay you for your services kindly (with Paypal, or you can choose for an other methode...)
*I am not a scammer, iam just really desperate*

i got my xperia z2 today from vodafone uk, really impressed with device as i switched from Galaxy S5. one of the thing that troubling me is the locked bootloader which strick even rooting your device, in other words you are limiting potential power of your phone.
Can anyone suggest if he/she got xperia Z2 with unlocked bootloader and from where did you purchase your device.

In most cases* if you buy a Sony phone on contract within the UK it'll have a locked bootloader and there is literally nothing that can be done about it.
I learned the hard way with my last Sony device (on contract with Three) so have bought the Z2 off-contract this time round and will pay for a Sim-only plan with Three (this works out cheaper as well).
*Buying on-contract through a third party such as CPW might possibly give you an unlocked bootloader... but it's down to the Network to lock the bootloader permanently and I don't know whether they have this opportunity before CPW ships them to customers

Carphone Warehouse always supply unlocked devices so that's one good reason to go there (i believe the same is true of phones4u but i have no first hand experience of this).
I'll. Collect my p4u z2 on Friday and let you guys know whether BL is locked or unlocked.

It seems like theres a bit of confusion here between an unlocked bootloader and a sim unlocked handset.........unlocking the bootloader doesn't let you use any sim, likewise if you can use any sim it doesn't mean you have an unlocked bootloader, mine is from phones for you and has no network/sim locks but bootloader is locked altho it says its unlockable..... from what ive seen in forums it seems like only the phones with no network lock have unlockable bootloaders, i cant be more help regarding the bootloader as im new to sony, all i know is its got something to do with installing custom roms and rooting
Just got my phone, ordered from mobiles.co.uk (which is Carphone W)arehouse) and I can confirm that it is both unlocked to any sim and that it's "Rooting Status is "Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes"

Yes if your phone is sim unlocked no doubt it will be bootloader unlocked
And even tho it is unlockable by saying yes means u have to unlock it through the website or through xda and then you will be able to flash custom ROMs but there is hardly no ROMs at the moment give it a few weeks and then you will have a few to pick from
Hopefully if all is good we will be bringing a ROM out for the z2 might be abut Rusty as haven't made any thing since the arc and neo times
