XBMC on nook tablet - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Their website states they have or are releasing an android version for xbmc. I can't seem the find the beta apk or zip file to install it (if there is one that works for it yet.) This to me is the "killer app" any help here would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Running XBMC on my nook tablet right now...
~ V

To bad videos arent working with this right now on the nook tablet. I am running CM7 and the updated version runs but videos arent playing so its sorta useless to me right now. Will be keeping an eye on it tho.

I am working on getting an updated build completed with the black screen fix. However, the main XBMC project has merged a few large changes that are causing my builds to fail right now. If you keep an eye on the main XBMC XDA thread or www.xbmcandroid.com/forums I will be posting a link once a build is known working.

The black screen issue is fixed in the version that lavero.burgos linked to. The issue is that videos wont play weather they are from video addons or over a dlna server so the app is pretty much useless right now even tho you can mess around with it.

The video playback problem should be addressed in a more recent patch. The problem is the patch was completed shortly after the upstream sources broke and we've not been able to get a successful compile with the new patch in awhile. An updated version is forthcoming, just with an unknown release date currently.

I managed to get a few stable builds with djeman's black screen fix included. Below are the links, if you meet with or success or failure let us know.
NEON

The black screen issue has been fixed for a while for me on the Nook Tablet running CM7 the issue was with videos not playing at all and I have been watching for a fix for that and from what I gather there is a patch but it hasn't been implemented yet becuase the source was broken upstream from what I read.

That is true. I held an updated build with a fix for video playback until upstream was stable again.
My previous post with the links is an updated build that should address the black screen problem 100% including video playback.

Video playback seems to be fixed with the new neon version but I still get a black screen when I minimize the status bar in CM7 which is getting annoying since the status bar overlaps the bottom of XMBC and the default theme sort of doesnt flow well. Meaning would it be possible to get some more themes added to it?

There is a touched skin included in the default builds that is setup better for touch screen devices. If you want another skin, the xbmc wiki has good information on where to find skins and how to install them. The android version of XBMC is generally the same as the non-android versions. If you need further information the xbmc wiki is a really good starting point. There is also a main thread on XDA that has more information about things beyond the black screen issue.

Running Sgt7 with 1.2 ghzcpu performance. Quality over WiFi is still lacking. Any recommended settings like gpu2d, hardware overlay etc to boost performance. I also am assuming nt is neon build. Thanks

Any way to install tablet versions of apps?

Ok so I have CM7.1 Alpha3.5 on the TouchPad. It's decent. However, it's just a blown up phone ROM with some tweaks to make it usable on a screen this large. This means that there's no panes in Gmail or other tablet optimized apps.
Now, I don't mean to diminish the work that has been done to things like the overlay for the buttons - that is really a slick implementation - but is there any way/place to get the tablet optimized versions of apps onto this thing instead of the phone versions of the apps? Or should I just shut up and wait for ICS to come out soon?
EDIT: Sigh. Mod, you can move this to the General section. My bad.
I was thinking of installing this, but if what you say is the case (all the apps will be like they are on the phone) then I guess I will wait til an ICS port comes out. I just REALLY want the Android apps on the Touchpad.
Install it! You have nothing to lose. You can boot into webOS OR CM7 via the startup menu.
Don't let one guy's complaints stop you.
Oh by all means install it. Its crazy fast and in a worst case scenario you lay an easier foundation for installing ICS when it is available. You don't have to use Android - this will get you dual booting.
If your talking about google music or netflix tablet versions, if you edit the device id to something like GT-i900 it will load up tablet versions.
At least this has been my experience...

Hmmmm... Can I do this on the device itself or adb to it or what?
Build.prop using a text editor of some kind will do the trick
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
In my situation, I've had the exact opposite occur: too many apps have told me to purchase the tablet version of their apps, such as SwiftKey for one. Netflix comes up as the tablet version, and i dunno about Gmail, but it doesn't bother me none if it's the phone view, it still works fine.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
Really? I edited my building prop to the Galaxy 7 wifi only since it has same resolution as Touchpad using and is wifi, only. All my apps look gorgeous. Typing on SwiftKey Tablet right now. GT-P1010 Samsung, i used root explorer to and just edit the build prop right on your Touchpad. I think es file will work too

Yeah I understand that - but I'm asking if there's a way to install the honeycomb/tablet versions. It sounds like, from everybody else, that we can with a simple edit of the build.prop file.
I will give it a shot later! Thanx everybody!
Well if anyone knows how to get the Plume Tablet version to run with a build.prop setting that would be great.

Fyi there is a huge difference between "tablet version(hc)" and " tablet optimized " tablet optimized works on larger screen gb units( like our tp)
tablet version is intended for honeycomb devices with the appropriate framework and can only be loaded on honeycomb os.
The reason why ppl are needing to edit the build.prop is for the app/market to recognize our device as a compatible device/hardware on a "tablet optimized " app.
No matter what u do a "tablet version" application will not work on a "phone version " os.
If it were that easy to install a hc application, the current fragmentation would not exist within androids, and ics would not be that important coming out.
Just a food for thought rant since I'm seeing so many God damn threads about this matter lol..
Thanks for listening

Honeycomb source was never released so we are stuck with a phone optimized version of Android until we can get an CM9/ICS ROM. There are new APIs etc in Honeycomb that won't allow those apps to run in Gingerbread even if you somehow force installed them. You can find some apps that will display a tablet UI. Here is a few of ones I use that run a tablet UI:
Netflix (really nice tablet UI update that is working great)
OfficeSuite Pro 5
Maxthon Browser for 10" Tablet
Firefox (tablet UI can be enabled in about:config)
What I look for is apps that have tablet screenshots or have been updated for ICS yet the same version also runs on GB.

so once we have an ics port we will have something that functions just like honeycomb does on the current tablets?

There is a video somewhere in the forums. There are two lines you need to edit. I know what to enter, but can't remember the exact name of the lines that are changed.
Here is a link to the video: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1381728
GT-I9100 and Samsung are the edits. It still won't let you download too many tablet apps as this is a phone port, but it still rocks.

Actually the Honeycomb source was released, it's included with the ICS source.
http://groups.google.com/group/android-building/msg/c0e01b4619a1455a?pli=1
This release includes the full history of the Android source code
tree, which naturally includes all the source code for the Honeycomb
releases. However, since Honeycomb was a little incomplete, we want
everyone to focus on Ice Cream Sandwich.

I took / modded some libs and apk from WhizKins rom to fixed wifi, bluetooth, theme manager, and data for some users (I hope so).
For data, I only tested with operator in my country (Indosat) and it work. Last time no data on that operator.

This version is the easiest to port and compatible with our early kernel. I choose a rom to port base of the same cpu and proc. with ds5, but most cm9 rom for those device not mention any version and no nightly builds (maybe that need a lot work to do because unofficial), so I choose this nightly builds by jmztaylor for supersonic which closely to cm9 official build. The bad news is I still facing problem with newer version, the room can boot but no respons on touch screen (I think we need a patch in our kernel as cm team make changes in their kernel and its impact to media libs, video libs, audio libs, surfaceflinger for better responsive and etc). Pls any advice to solve this problem.
Btw, I hv succeed ported latest and final build evervolv ICS rom for nexus one. I think this latest build closely to cm9 RC2 as all evervolv ICS rom build from CM source. But for us it looks like minor changes cause the big improvement is finally native camcorder can record and play.
Sometimes I think better if we can build from the source but at this moment only kibuuka can do that.
I wish he can get ds5 replacement soon and the development can continue.

oh COME ON there's NO magic at all in building cm9 from source. set your build environment (this guide is quite straight-forward) and tell me when you need to know "what do i do next". Do initial build, test it, get bug list and we'll start to figure solutions for it.
Lemme explain my POV bit more: binary patches are only good when you got no access to source (and even if you don't - there's ALWAYS more than one way to deal with a problem - hunderteins' ussd patch was a magic at the moment - but there was an option noone thought about/tried to - using rild-related stuff from froyo (it works (as it's pretty much framework-independent), yet it's free of ussd bug)).
When source's available - it's ALWAYS a good thing - you control a way it built, you're free to patch it at will adding features/resolving issues/whatever you can imagine to do - instead of desperately seeking for a blob that manages not to fc on your device. One more thing to mention - when you manage to fix thing instead of replacing it - you create/produce, instead of consume/waste

First - what's most powerful pc you have access to? Plenty of RAM and cpu cores gives you a chance to see finished build within universe's lifetime Kiddin, mostly. My build station specs are: [email protected]/8Gb/2x1TB. On this specs sucessfull build done with -j4 takes ~2h15m to complete (integrated build - kernel+system). Netbook (Atom cpu?) with 1Gb seem to be inappropriate device to compile ics on.
Second - you don't have to decompile/recompile separate apks and/or jars. You're downloading source, compiling it and getting ROM as a result.

Yes, it's definitely the best version to run if you want to use it as a daily driver. You should get an update about next week which fixes the screenshot issue.
Regarding the notifications: Yes, there's a real problem with that.
Actually, I submitted patches for that issue some time ago, but nobody has been reviewing them for more than two months. I've almost lost hope that this will ever happen...
If you want to increase the problem's importance, please select that the following 4 bugs affect you:

You can use the Ubuntu One account from your phone to log in.
Maybe that creates some pressure so that the patches will eventually be merged.
thats great what will the update come down as a update to the system?

You can use the Ubuntu One account from your phone to log in.
Maybe that creates some pressure so that the patches will eventually be merged.

[8.1] [Magisk Module] Multi-Touch Fix for 8.1 Devices

Hello guys and girls,
As some of you already know Android 8.1 suffers from a severe Multi-Touch Issue. This issues makes the smartphone randomly jumping between the two touching points on the screen when touching with two or more fingers.
The issue is known to google since the preview of 8.1. It isn´t only affecting pixel but most probably all devices running 8.1. The issue is also present on P.
An issue got created here: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/70344455
There is a fix since mid march in review on google gerrit. But that didn´t make it into the april release, obviously.
To visualize the issue refer to the following videos:
https://youtu.be/wgYN5GwIgIc
https://youtu.be/2Vv584tvVyg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dnIk_5qdK8&feature=youtu.be
This is especially bad for gamers. With the recent release of PUBG this issues seems dramatic to some, less to others.
I´m no gamer but I noticed the issue on the google foto app.
This issue has nothing to do with the corners badly reacting to touches, or touch sensitivity etc.
So but now to the fix. It seems the issues is only related to resampling but not to touching specific points of the screen ( not related to crossing x and y axis).
That also explains why the issue wasn´t happening when using the touch tracking tool in dev settings but on various multi touch test apps.
The fix is on google gerrit currently under review here:
https://android-review.googlesource.com/c/platform/frameworks/native/+/640605
https://android-review.googlesource.com/c/platform/frameworks/native/+/640606
Last week I compiled myself a DU build with the changes included and I couldn´t trigger the issue at all. I found no other side effects caused by the two patches.
For now I decided to provide a Magisk Module which replaces the changed libs that fixes the issue.
I compiled the libs while doing my april build of DU. The magisk module can be found on the link a little bit down.
The download is here:

A few disclaimers here.
1. That fix should in theory work for most 8.1 devices, including the likes of pixel 1st gen, pixel 2nd gen, one plus, xiaomi which suffer from this severe issue.
2. I didn´t fix this, I just compiled the libs with the fix found on google gerrit.
3. Rom devs you are very welcome to include this fix. I found no ill consequences as of yet but I can understand google taking it slow and reviewing it longer. Maybe they will find a better fix, but as of now this is the best thing we have.

Updated trees today I'll push tomm
Just installed on latest lineage .. it's perfect!! Thank you so much
Any word on a fix for the sound bug on 8.1? After a couple of hours the phone stops playing ringtones and notifications (while other sounds work ala YouTube Spotify). A reboot fixes it temporarily.
