You can flash a generic firmware with flashtool.

when i connect to pc companion its telling me theres an update to .75 but can i update safely on an unlocked bootloader or am i best to lock it again first. i know there was problems updating the arc on an unlocked bootloader but does the XPS have the same problem?
better to re-lock it first .. but if you like .. i think someone has uploaded the generic firmware .75 on the dev. section .. you can flash it already ..
Hi,
I have been reading up alot recently about rooting and flashing my phone (Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray) as currently my carrier (O2) is not releasing ICS for updates as they have not "tested" it sufficiently on my particular device (this was there explanation to me via email).
I have looked on the official sony ericsson website trying to find a way to update my phone and found that the method there required my phone to have an unlocked bootlader but unfortunatly my phone has a locked bootloader (im assuming due to it being locked to O2 although it is a pay as you go model).
I have read conflicting opinions on whether you can root and flash your phone in my situation and was just wondering (before i tried anything at all) whether someone could clarify if it would be possible to update my phone to ICS.
For reference this is my phones status:
Rooting Status:
Bootloader unlock allowed: No
Thanks
Try find generic ics for ray, flash it using flashtool.
Or u can pay to make your bootloader unlockable.

When you follow the Link Tutorial you have at the end Root and ICS on your Ray, without unlocking your bootloader (unlocking bootloader causes probably in lost your warranty!)
You need unlocking Bootloader for new Kernel and/or some Custom Rom´s, but there are some rom´s for locked bootloader.
Don´t forget to save your build.prop in /system befor you do something from the guide! With original build.prop you can flash your phone to O2 original software when there are something to repair in service center.
Does anyone know how to debrand Sony Xperia P from O2 in UK (or just in general) ?
I have done some searching and there is some question about boot loader locks on some providers' firmware. Is this the case for O2 UK ? Does the boot loader need to be unlocked to put on generic firmware or change model id ?
Here is a procedure I found for debranding Sony Xperia S:
http://www.xperiablog.net/2012/03/26/debrand-your-xperia-s-tutorial/
This seems to be just changing the id of the phone, which then allows the Sony update service to put on latest generic ROM
Can the same one be used for Xperia P ?
This is FINE for me, I don't need custom firmware I just want generic stock firmware
Sorry for newbie questions but this is my first Sony Android phone (and a beautiful one it is too - no idea why this phone is not more popular)
thanks in adavance!
Unlock your bootloader and flash the generic ics image... I think it will be the best possibillity

Flash the generic firmware with Flashtool ..,
No need to Unlock your BL ..,some devices have unlockable Bootloader..,
But Flashing firmwares with Flashtool doesn't require an unlocked Or locked BL ..
It's easy as it sounds.. =)

best rgds
yes
Hi guys!
Thanks in advance for your help on this matter!
I have been patiently waiting for the official ICS update to arrive for my SE NEO (MT15) since way back when. I know O2 publicly announced they weren't going to bother updating but does anyone know if the Orange UK (now EE) will ever update this phone? Its SI is 1253-7641 if that is any help? Sony are no longer updating their thread of SI numbers so all might be lost in the change from SE to Sony and from Orange to EE!!
I have looked at doing this manually but am worried that as my phone is network locked I might brick it. Also in order to use custom ROMs there seems to be some touch-point modification which worries me too! (I might be wrong on these things).
Thanks again for your time!
1st thing you need to Unlock it from the Network, then unlock the boot loader (optional), & then Install the custom Rom whatever ICS ROM you like or even stock one.

Doesn't network unlock require a testpoint procedure? I know bootloader does. I am very hesitant to fiddle with hardware like that.
If information on whether or not Orange (EE) are going to ever produce an update I might wait until my contract runs out in a couple of months and get a new phone!
If you just want to use stock fw, simply flash it with falshtool, no need for SIM unlock or bootloader unlock.
Hello guys, can someone explain me if i can use an old rom with the new bootloader ?
If not, did i need to flash the rom with the newbootloader before or after the update of it ?
Thanks you !
If you upgrade your device to new bootloader you are not be able to boot with old BL ROMs unless you flash old BL(very dangerous can brick your phone) or go back to OOS 2.2.3.
If you are on old BL you need new BL to use new Roms with new BL..BL upgrade is one time process after that you do not need to flash BL again and again.unless you go back to old BL.
